My husband and I are book lovers and collectors. We found the most beautiful copy of Wind in the Willows (vintage) and had to purchase it today. The store attendant was so pleasant to interact with and had several recommendations on where to find readings locally. The store was beautifully decorated (see my photos) and had a great selection of new and used books. We were also able to contribute to literacy when checking out. All in all a great experience. Stop in here if youre checking out Mass Ave!

This was my first time going to a non-chain bookstore and it was great! The atmosphere was very bookish, the place was nice and clean, and the displays were interesting. It had a very come sit down and read or play some chess or do some homework feel to it, which I loved. Wish I had one of these close to my house!!

Ugh. I love this bookstore so much!! The people that work here are great and their mission is so amazing that I dont want to buy books anywhere else. They sell a great mix of new releases and used books (that can also be newer releases) at good prices. They throw lots of unique events every month, like drag queen story hour and pet photos with Santa! I come in once a week and can always find something new to walk out with! Highly recommend to any book lover!

This is my go-to bookstore in Indy! I donate and purchase most books from here, and its the first place I go before I ever search online for books to buy from Amazon, etc. Indy Reads may not have every book youre looking for, but its atmosphere, philanthropic mission (to improve adult literacy in the city), and shifting collection of hidden treasures never gets old. While most books are donated, you can also find new books on the shelves that rotate periodically. Give it a try sometime.

The staff are always super friendly and helpful, and the prices are pretty solid, competitive with buying things on Amazon. Their selection varies, as all used bookstores do, but I generally can find something to read every time Im there. Im always glad to see what new books they have as well because they get some harder to find gems that you wont see at a Barnes&Noble. Plus, its all for a good cause! A local gift to community and literacy both. Indy Reads Books should be on the visit list of every citizen of Indianapolis and should absolutely be a part of any trip down Massachusetts Avenue. With a heavy volunteer and localism focus, it is hard to think of a better book store to support with your time or efforts. It often plays host to visits from local and regional authors, such as a Indianapolis own John Green, and has made a name for itself on lists of best independent book stores across the nation.A visit to Indy Reads will be the gift you need to make your day better, or to find just the right thing to do to try and give back to your home and your self.

This is the best and coziest shop you will find in Indianapolis. Seriously, I challenge you to find a place with better atmosphere. This store is part of the nonprofit Indy Reads, which offers literacy programs for adults in the city. Nearly all of the stock is donated, and most of the staff are volunteers. At the same time, there are quite a few new books and some great sections to peruse (I recommend the cult classics and the rare books in the back of the shop). The store also doubles as a sort of community space. They host a number of free events throughout the week, both book-related and not. If you are looking for a quiet place to sip coffee and turn some pages, check out the reading nooks in the back of the store. You will not be disappointed!
