If I would give a million stars, I would. This place has a HUGE selection of old-school electronic dance music, especially the ones that are rare to find at local record stores. Best part: THEYRE CHEAP! Would recommend and would come again :D

I was excited to come to this place because of the reviews. They stated that they are open at 10 am. I came after 11 and the doors were locked. There was a man inside. Instead of acknowledging me or explaining why the door wasn’t open, he just shook his head. I drove 30 minutes for nothing.

I was visiting from out of town and decided to see what Houston had to offer in the way of vinyl stores.I can tell the locals love this place - so Im hesitant to rate it so low - but compared to the two other record stores I visited - this one had a VERY limited vinyl selection. (I was on the hunt for some 60s/70s Rock ... Mommas and the Pappas, ABBA, T.Rex, Beatles, George Harrison, Bob Dylan etc.)With that said - I didnt look at prices or interact with the staff. These may be absolutely fabulous... and could be why they get such high ratings... so I wouldnt totally write them off.

I’ll never get why people give low rated reviews to places that do not deserve it, like this place. Just made my first visit yesterday, and I love it. Two things really stand out, and both really matter.1) The records are really fair in price. Finally. Record shops have a terrible habit of charging an extra $5 to $20 just because a records falls under the category of rock or rap. Not this place. Found great records at the price they go for online, and it was almost as impressive as2) The friendliest staff in a 20 mile radius. In the 20 minutes I was around, I head that store owner crack a joke with all the customers, or at the very least smile at them. Greeted me the door with a big smile and good music playing in the store. This place is a bit of a drive from where I live and, unfortunately for my vehicle, I’ll be making a trip out here often. Keep doing what you’re doing out here.

Drove 30 minutes to come to this store and wasn’t able to even enter the store due to mask mandates even if you’re vaccinated they look at you crazyUpdate: if you’re requiring masks at a store in a state which bans masks mandates you should be giving away the masks like they do at most locations requiring masks. Or sell them for a dollar and make a profit. Literally other record stores in this area will give you a mask if you need one there. This is literally the most conservative state, almost every store in Texas has no mask requirements. You can’t expect people to carry one in this state

Amazing collections. Not huge but great soundtracks and jazz section. I dont listen to metals and alt rock but this shop has ton of it. Not as diverse or deep as All Records in Edloe street but they have more popular and newer releases. Used sections are great too. Pretty busy on weekends so Id visit them on week days.

One of the most diverse and comprehensive selections of vinyl records in East Texas. Somehow this store manages to keep up with the demand for new and unusual sound recordings. At the same time it has a broad collection of used lps and CDs in all genres. It does a brisk business, but managed it safely during the pandemic. My compliments to the chef.

Decided to go there and check them out. When I got there I walk in and the worker said that I need to put a mask on. That was not a problem, I went to my car got a mask and went back inside. The store is very small but it has a very large collection of different kinds of music. Very eclectic. Stuff I have never even heard of. I was looking for a Linkin Park CD and Pearl Jam, both of which they did not have in stock. So I asked him if he could order a Pearl Jam CD I was looking for and he kindly did. I stayed there looking through all of the CDs. When I looked at the clock I realized that I had to go I had spent an hour and 45 minutes in that store browsing through their collection. They have a large collection of anything and everything. Theyre playing something weird on the radio. I have no idea what it was. And then they played the Rick Astley song Never Gonna Give You Up. We all laughed. I enjoyed myself. Out of looking for what I was looking for in CDs. I found a Stained CD and I bought it. I like it. I thank you, I appreciate you and I will be back. Sincerely.

Even thought they didnt have exactly what I needed my first visit, they directed me to exactly where I could get it (instead of having me wait to see if they could collect the sale)That is in addition to the staff taking a lot of time helping me get a good understanding of what I needed, as well as what would work with the other systems I was considering.Since this is incredible customer service, Ive been back many times to browse and but from their excellent record selection.

This is objectively the best record store in Houston. The selection is excellent, but other stores (Deep End, Sound Exchange, etc.) are in close competition. I still believe Vinal Edge uh...edges out the other stores, but in my experience Vinal Edge has the best prices on top of their exceptional selection. The location is also outstanding; parking is easy and there’s lots of other fun stuff around. The owner, Chuck Roast is a local treasure, and the entire store oozes with personality. This is an independent record store that should be held as the golden standard for independent record stores. If you only go to one record store in Houston, make it Vinal Edge.

On 7-3-20 I visited Vinal Edge Records. I read great things about the store itself unfortunately my visit did not reflect that. The vinal selection is adequate, prices on previously owned records is a little high but not too bad. That being said they were selling some really beat up items as I saw one listed at $1.50 with a note saying really beat up. The biggest disappointment was the service. I only had a interaction with the older gentleman in the store. His attitude gave off the vibe that he wasnt happy to be there. Mind you I had also visited Sound Exchange (similar selection better prices) and Cactus Music (best selection). Each store had the hand sanitizer rule of you must apply immediately upon entering. At the two previous locations I was asked Please use hand sanitizer or Sorry for the rule, can you please however at Vinal Edge it was Hey! You need to use hand sanitizer or you cant come in. Now I wasnt half way down the row but as soon as my foot passed the door I was told this. I noticed he had this attitude with other customers in the building, kind of talking down to them. He reminded me of the comic book guy from the Simpsons. Needless to say it was not a very inviting environment, I got the you should be honored to be here vibe from this guy. Moving forward Ill be driving the extra 15min to get to the other two shops.

I’ve been a customer here since 1986 when they were on Veteran’s Memorial. Chuck Roast’s tastes have always been eccentric and against the stream, which is why this is still a great place to find odd and interesting music. If you like Punk, experimental, Post-Punk, Cold Wave, World, Space, techno or metal, he’s definitely got something to quench your thirst.I’ve been fortunate enough to shop the big stores in Europe, New York, etc., and this is still my favorite record store.Spending my youth at Vinal Edge shaped my musical taste and I have been all the better for it. Now, give them your money. It will be good for you.
