Very small store, hard to see it I drove by twice. Gave me $2.00 for each record he bought 7 gave me $14.00 for vintage vinyl but thinking Id get a better price at a bigger store or chain like Soundwaves. Probably wont be back.
Cool little record store. Was able to add some new and old stuff to my mice little collection.
Sound Exchange is an south side establishment. They have a great selection of records from new to old. Great place to go if you don’t know a lot about vinyl because of the great staff. It really has an old shop charm 10/10 would recommend.
Great record storeTook some old albums and owner was very friendly. He inspected 3 dozen plus albums and paid me for several. Excellent service.
Very knowledgeable staff, excellent metal and experimental selections. Cant wait to go to shows there again!
Diverse selection of new and used: metal, jazz, alternative, punk, oldies, plus gadgets and posters.
Excellent selection of quality and cheap records.
Amazing selection, they had records I wasnt able to find anywhere other than online previously, and very reasonable prices
Great Assortment of Albums and CDs, Very Friendly,
I heard great things about this location and it did not disappoint. The prices were spot on considering condition of sleeve/vinyl and organization was good. I found so many gems in the $3.99 bin. If you love vinyl you need to come here.
Very diverse Collection.
First time visiting. good selection even in the discount rack. picked up a few records. Ill be back soon
Very small quaint sound exchange store. He is selective on the music that is carried but may have what you are seeking for. He referred me to whom another location that had what we were looking for. I was referred to him from another music shop so I was appreciative how the supported each other. It was a day of several local music stores. It was a great experience.
Really good selection of classic music in almost all genres. Nice atmosphere, we were really into the album that was playing in the shop, and we asked who it was by. The guy behind the counter happily shared the album info, he was very friendly and helpful. Overall, nice record shop.
Good local store then their customer from many years

Nice place!
Sound Exchange offers a well curated and knowledgeable selection of records. Youll be spared the excess fat of some other stores. Some albums are even noted with a post-it why that copy is unique, or a store recommendation. They offer turntable repair, of which I have a very positive opinion of. They serviced my Technics in a timely manner, and eliminated the problem it was having. To be clear, I did not buy my TT through them, but had it serviced by them nonetheless. As of this post, my most recent record purchase there was The Talking Heads Remain in light. They are a staple to Houstons audio interests, and veterans in their craft.
It felt like an authentic record store! Of course the range of music is excellent, but its also worth a visit for the decorations - I dont know how many layers of posters and articles and magazine covers are up there, but someones been dedicated to that task for a while. And its so interesting! The owner is friendly and you can something for everyone. Great local place.
Great place. Doest carry a huge tape collection
Awesome record store! Great selection and friendly staff! One of the best in the whole state.
Not bad, but kinda small. If you’re looking for older vinyls and rare stuff then this is definitely a good store. Didn’t seem to have much modern stuff.
Really cool hole-in-the-wall record shop that seemed to be geared more towards metal music. They sell everything from recent releases, to pre-owned records, they have a big selection of cassettes and a really cool assortment of vintage record players that are for sale. The staff were really nice and extremely helpful if you needed help finding something. My only gripe was it was kind of hard to spot from the road, but nevertheless I did find it without too much headache.
Ive been a customer for more than 27 years. They have always been very supportive of the local scene. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and there is always something there that I want to buy. Please continue to support your local record stores.
They were great! I took my record player to Heights Vinyl, spent a couple hundred dollars, waited 2 months and when I got it back it still occasionally squeaked and was always very loud. After a few months it stopped working.I found Sounds Exchange and thought I would try it out. They said all the easy stuff had been done but not the important stuff. So they disassembled the motor, lubed it and reassembled it. The sent out a part to be resurfaced and within 2 weeks it was complete. Its so smooth and perfectly silent.Great place, very knowledgeable.
Cool store. This is the new location since moving from the old house on Richmond Ave. They didnt have much that I was looking for but neither did Vinal Edge. I bought the ABSU Temples Of Offal CD. And went on my way. Sometimes they have a ton of cool stuff, other times it can be inbetween shipments and used CD buys. Cool people and longstanding supporters of the Houston Underground Metal Scene. Check Em Out.
Arousing metal section and merchandise. Also doesnt hurt that they sell turntable needles as well! Great record shop, one of my favorite.
If you love metal this is your place i live 100 miles away no problem to make the trip well worth it
Went for party!🤘🏿🤙🏿💯
Brought an old Dual player in and Kevin got it working perfectly in no time! Very happy with his workmanship!
One of the last real places around. I hope they are still around when real becomes popular again.
Old house converted into a record store. Cool vibe. Lots of categories. Bins in the back have used vinyl and CDs for 1 or $2.
Great place and nice guy. Good selection and prices.
Great store been shopping with them since the 1980’s. Highly recommended.
I simply called in order to see if they were taking albums, this guy was very rude and very combative. And this was even before I told him what titles I had. They either need to get a new employee or a new business owner or who ever. I will never recomend anyone to come to this business
Unique and very cosy place. Nice place to escape the city for a bit and relax.
Great place to shop.Kurt and co.run a really awesome music store. If he dont have it.He will find it for you.
Ive been to this shop since the 1980s, and have recently rediscovered it. A great selection of the new and old, with lots of great finds. Its a record shop like you remember they once were.
Well now theyre in their location on the East End having to had to move from their location on Richmond which was forever it seems. I have been frequenting their store since they were on Westheimer which was so long ago they have great records their staff is great and they have unusual things you dont normally find other places and Im hearing as of late they have a lot of metal which seems to be of interest these days not my cup of tea but, it certainly is somebodys
Its a small but very friendly store....
Awesome People Great Location Good Selection and Live Shows
TONS of used LPs. Classic rock, indie, jazz, hip-hop, etc. Large bargain bin and CD collection as well. Plenty of harder-to-find used records at reasonable prices.
An old house filled with old vinyl for those who still appreciate analog sound
Sound Ex cannot be touched. Every genre, on vinyl, priced to sell. This aint a library, Larry.
Lots of older records, if you like metal there is a scene for you in here. Vinyl is outdated and lacks variety, cd selection is pretty good.
Pretty cool, not the greatest selection but there was decent stuff, def worth checking out
Ive been visiting Sound Exchange (at one location or another) since 1991, and consider them to be the premier record store in Houston. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, and, if they dont have something in stock, willing to help you track down that rare vinyl that youve been looking for.
It was like walking into a fine tuned time machine....electic 😍
Sound Exchange has been a cornerstone of the Houston music scene for decades, having moved 20 years ago from their previous location on Westheimer. They have a large selection of LPs, some CDs, and you can even get a turntable here. If youre in to vinyl this is worth a trip, probably on a regular basis.
Decent selection, the real glory here is the staff
It was ok but i expected better. Not enough r and b or hip hop section
Guys are super nice and helpful. Great metal section as well!
Ive spent a lot of time and money here. Always fresh merch coming in and the atmosphere is unlike any other.
Great atmosphere and good collection of new, old, odd, and eccentric.
Great selection of records and plus CDs
Great place to find local music.
New location. Same old lack of variety, everything is expensive for both original and reissued material.
Great atmosphere....the employees where very friendly....
Great selection of all classic records
Cool record shop.
I got RIP off, dont go there. Bought a DVD and it was nothing on it.
Good selection for newer items.
Fixed my turntable quickly and inexpensively.
Great locally owned shop!
I wasnt there but 2 minutes there is no seasonal (Christmas) records the dude there said they dont sell, well how does he know if there are none in the place
Worth the effort to get there, a great selection of music
Great place, great folks!!! Thank you!!
Good old song records
Need some orginization as well as a new location.
Super niche.... Nothing negative
One unique place, love it!
