Went in for my once a year restringing on my tenor ukulele. They have been so accommodating and changed it while I wait. I love my KoAloha. Thank you to the best company !
I wish I could give six, seven, or even ten stars! KoAloha is by far the BEST ukulele manufacturer in the world. Their ukes look stunning, sound remarkable, and the customer service makes you feel like you’re one of their family. They care about their craft, from making ukuleles, to ensuring anyone who plays, or wants to play, a KoAloha, is satisfied beyond expectations.
Super chill and intimate store. Friendly staff. Our tour guide (I think his name was Paul) also recommend some great shaved ice in the area!
The instruments are stunning and very well made. Brian was very helpful and kind.
What a fun tour! Found through an Air BnB experience thing...meeting the founder was super cool and Maia (I might have spelled that wrong) was extremely personable and very knowledgeable! Her playing is amazing, so even if youre only stopping by to shop or browse, ask her to play a little tune for you...you wont be disappointed!
I had an amazing day at KoAloha. I did the tour where we got to build our own soprano ukulele. Peng showed us what to do and was super friendly and helpful. The kit is very high quality and shares the same bracing and construction as the more expensive models but with pine instead of Koa. Assembling it yourself is nicely rewarding. The others in the build group had gotten the tour before I arrived, so Peng gave me a personal tour. He started by playing the worlds smallest playable ukulele made by Alvin Pops Okami himself. Then we saw the stacks of Koa destined to become beautiful ukuleles. After touring other ukulele shops with state of the art side bending machines I was surprised to find KoAloha bend all their sides by hand with a hot pipe! The next surprise was the jig used to cut fret slots. Designed and built by Pops, it has drums with properly spaced circular blades for each size of ukulele. Old school tools and techniques make KoAlohas seem even more hand made than other ukuleles. We saw every stage of production all the way through stringing them up and putting on the (lifetime!) warranty tags. A nice treat was seeing a meticulously crafted jukebox-shaped ukulele (the Jukulele) built by Pops. When we were done I started talking with Lloyd about various parts of production. He is really fun and friendly and clearly loves his job. He took me back in the shop for an even more detailed tour! The highlight was when he showed me the fret slot cutting jig in action. After the second tour I lamented that no tenors were available in the factory seconds showroom. Lloyd smiled and brought out the last one they had - a gem with an upgraded curly Koa top. I chided him about ambushing me with such a beautiful instrument (which I now own). And to make an amazing visit even better, just as I was leaving, Pops came rushing through. Even though he was in a hurry he asked my name, shook my hand, signed a CD for me and was gracious enough to pose for a selfie.KoAloha is only about 15 people. All skilled to do various jobs. It was a pleasure to see them all making such amazing instruments. I feel fortunate to have had such a personal experience there. I made some friends and in a small way feel like part of the KoAloha ohana.
Book your workshop tour in advance!Beautiful crafted instruments at great prices!
Awesome Customer Service! 100% Service with Aloha! Awesome products. Beautiful Ukuleles!
One of the newer Hawaiian ukulele factories is fast making an international name for themselves. Free guided tour at 1pm every weekday is really interesting since their construction techniques are a little different from the other local companies. The showroom sells blemished ukuleles for about 1/3 off list price, but was sparse when we visited. The entrance to the factory is on the second floor above a nightclub with no signs on the ground level, so look for the address number. There is free parking on the second floor (take the driveway up).
Economy mentality moved into family product. They outsourced parts of the productions. Now Koaloha produces in Thailand. not all expensive koaloha ukuleles are original made in hawaii. And thats my fault, i linked that brand to hawaii, therefore i bought an ORIGINAL! KOALOHA ukulele, and after receiving i learnedit was made in thailand.
Thank you so much for helping me choose a ukulele that suits my style and personality! I loved learning about the passion and mastery it takes to produce the best sound from one musical instrument on the free tour, and my ukulele looks beautiful! Thanks so much again for the kind service and chat, this was definitely a highlight of my Hawaii holiday experience!
An incredible ukulele tour! Our tour guide Maia was knowledgeable, friendly, and a talented musician! She took the time to explain the process in great detail and made us feel welcomed. We ended up walking out with an incredible factory ukulele and an appreciation for the effort that went into making it. Highly recommend this factory to anyone interested in ukuleles.
Pops is one of the most genuine and generous people that I have the privilege of knowing! He and his family make beautiful instruments that not only sound amazing, but that bring pure joy to all who play them! Thank you to Pops and Moms for everything that you do to help bring music to people around the world.
GREAT!! a family-run small factory. Beautiful Ukuleles. Just started playing so something to look forward to!! The owner was so warm, sang and played for us....and the REAL boss, his wife, absolutely charming. Should be on every ukulele players MUST VISIT!!
Mahalo to Lloyd for his expertise & kindness. No sales pressure. Just an education about what to look for when buying an ukulele, my first. Such an honor to meet Pops and being serenaded! I am now a part of the KoAloha Ukulele Ohana! 🌺
We did not do the tour, but got to spend some time talking to Alan Okami and the crew. Saw some awesome custom work with amazing inlay. We were treated like family.
Wonderful tour and wonderful people! Great for musicians and non-musicians, but this is a must-see for ukulele players visiting!! Thanks for a great experience.
The factory tour is very cool and a must for the ukulele enthusiast! Observing quality craftsmanship is its own reward. Beware the ridiculous parking enforcement, though.
Great tour and an amazing host. We had the chance to do the tour with Uncle KoAloha and he was really funny and entertaining! He managed to keep us entertained in a tour that could have easily been boring. We learned a lot about how ukulele are made and had the chance to see local artist perform for us! I even bought an instrument at the end. The only downside is that we did the tour on the first day of our trip and everything else was a let down compared to our visit at KoAloha! :)
Awesome instruments and people! Super friendly and helpful.
Wow very friendly add to list to do in Honolulu. Recommended
One of the most beautiful sounding instruments I have ever played! Honoured to be an owner of a Koaloha tenor and also an Opio Koaloha soprano!
They have nice ukuleles but my 10 year old daughter is not ready for a 9 hundred dollar ukulele
I came in today to get my ukulele restrung and I was incredibly impressed with the service I received from Lloyd and the staff at Koaloha...the Koa wood used in their line of Ukuleles is incredibly beautiful and sounds very vibrant. Such a fun experience even to just chat with Lloyd, Ill definitely be back to buy my next Ukulele here! Mucho Mahalos
We had such a great experience at Koaloha. They have a sign on the door, “Come as a friend, leave as family.” Lloyd certainly made us feel that way. Advice: Allow more time then you think because you get an education and they have many outstanding ukuleles. Not a sales pitch at all....just education and sharing of the instruments. You will want to play them and listen to them being played to find the right one for you so you need time. Lloyd was patient and helpful as I found the sound I loved. We purchased two, one being a custom Pineapple Ukulele. . They both sounded different and played beautifully so I couldn’t leave them behind. I have shopped at other stores. These Ukes are special. Since they make many of them right there, you could even order a customer instrument. I don’t think you will need to but Popa makes custom pineapple ukes that are works of art, sweet to play and of exceptional sound. You can pick a Ukulele for its beauty. What was most important to me was the sound and feel. I play other instruments but not stringed instruments. In the time I was in Hawaii, I was able to go fromZero to playing some cool songs. I knew I wanted to really learn the ukulele and am so happy I went to koaloha to bring home a great instrument I can enjoy for years to come. The lifetime warranty is and added bonus. Forget the stores in the waikiki mall and fake a drive to the Koaloha store for a very personalized experience.
All my friends and family love Koaloha Ukulele & its staff there!! Pops & mama and everyone is so sweet!! Awesome!!!!
These folk are wonderful people and are clearly dedicated to their craft and their mission. It was an amazing opportunity to see the master craftsmen at their work and to meet the people behind the ukes!
Perchased a $1100+ KoAloha Koa at Music Exchange at the Big Island in July 2019 and am very very disappointed. It always go out of tune even during use. I tune in before use and while playing, it goes out of tune. I waited to write this review as I was hoping that it gets better hoping the strings are just adjusting...no avail. It appears that the tuners do not fit well and loose. I have two much cheaper mahogany ukuleles, $89 and $295. The $295 does not get out of tune and sounds just about the same as this expensive KoAloha. Hoping to hear from the company as to what they can do about it.
I loved stopping there . We took the tour, I read enjoyed that part . Established part of the visit when when Alvin come in and I got to meet him he was just a wonderful person to meet, one person I will remember for ever.
Spent a lovely afternoon getting an informative+informal group tour of the workshop, meeting the dedicated folks behind these warm+resonant ukes, and even got a bit of a surprise show at the end with Lloyds talented daughter and then niece performing in the showroom. A delight! Wasnt able to afford a uke, but still walked away feeling connected.
Finely made and superb sounding ukuleles, everyone here enjoys what they do and are people with big hearts!! Love these guys!! #koalohaukuleles
A spectacular factory run by spectacular people. Albert was kind enough to give me a personal tour of the shop and moms hooked me up with a fantastic ukulele. I was a visitor from Canada and had been searching around for an authentic Ukulele made in Hawaii with traditional materials for my daughter. They make most of their ukuleles out of the protected wood species Koa. They are using patent pending innovative techniques for building the bodies as well and they even have original and ingenuitave machines and techniques for building them.A wonderful combination of skilled craftsmanship and appreciation for music and pride in their work make for world class instruments. This becomes even more evident when you look at their custom lines of ukuleles. They were even kind enough to open their shop to me even though they were closed so I could make my purchase on my last day visiting the state. I know how a truly remarkable momento to give to my daughter.
Fascinating high-quality tours. My time in Hawaii was very limited and this was time well spent.
Amazing experience, warm welcoming, very well explained...
Had a great time, highly recommended. Mahalo!
Friendly staff. Walked in when a local middle school was having a tour. Awesome to see a company offer that to Hawaii Keiki!!! IMUA KoAloha! 💛🎤🎼
Great staff! Amazing Instruments! Tour is well worth it!
Incredibile craftmenship of very nice committed people! The tour is very interested, the products beautiful!
OK product but terrible customer service. Never replied to any of my emails or calls. Some defects on the guilele but I didnt notice it when I bought it so thats kinda my fault.
I had an amazing time with my family doing a tour and a very brief ukulele lesson.
Amaizing ukeleles
Excellent ukulele
It is a little difficult to understand but it has become easier to relocate to Ala Moana Center nearby. From 1 pm every day except weekends you can have a tour of the building at the same time with a description (basically English) as a factory tour without reservation.People who are looking for it may be aiming because it is possible to purchase at a shop a little cheaper than purchasing at the ukulele shop in the city. There seems to be sometimes a line of outlets lining up if timing is good. The staff will welcome you very friendly and warmly.
The location is a bit confusing. The shop is on the second floor of the building. It is easy to understand if you go up from the parking lot entrance. The showroom is very large. Ask the vice president who can speak Japanese to respond. Purchase a factory product. He was a very friendly and friendly person 🌈
By far, of the BEST visits and experiences we had in O’ahu !!! It is a tour of the BEST Ukuleles factory in Hawaii, and what a wonder to have been able to go and enjoy it !!The group was small (I think that painfully few people know about this tour 😢), maybe we were about 8 or 10 people, and the tour takes at least 2 hours in which they explain step by step how they MANUALLY make and perfectly this typical instrument from Hawaii It is amazing how each piece MUST be carved, molded, assembled, painted, etc., with the best quality standards (something that a machine could never do). During the tour the host (by the way super friendly and respectful), tells you where you can take photos, and in one of the stations, and if you are very lucky you can meet the founder and owner who will also explain a little and if you want you can take pictures with him. In the end, they take you to a room where they have a collection of Ukuleles of different shapes and prices and they even make a discount if you want to buy one.To close with a GOLD brooch, we had the privilege of hearing several Hawaiian songs sing to Kennedy Taylor, one of the sweetest, most beautiful and most famous voices in Hawaii. Love it ♥ ️ love it ♥ ️ and Love it !! Please DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Polite explanation. High quality. I just bought a soprano ukulele. I look and touch it every day.
It was a nice place with a very aloha atmosphere that corresponded perfectly to Japanese! They also give factory tours and ukulele lessons!Ukulele is Ko Aloha!
Very kind
