Bustling market. Most of the stands are RESELLERS who purchase from a wholesaler only a short 2 minutes walk from this market. If you want a REAL farmer’s market experience, check out farms that dot the surrounding area such as O.K. FARMS and several others that dot the surrounding area.If you don’t mind buying from Resellers, then grab yourself some fresh fruit and veggies here. Plus Honey, prepared food, local drinks, and skin care items. Also great floral arrangements available here.

Spread across two streets this place is wonderful. Variety in souvenirs to buy, a food stall/truck area, and fruit vendors line the marketplace. I personally love the sight of fresh fruits along with local foods showcased as small stalls. Passion fruit juice, vegan banana bread, and vegan butter mochi. What else could you want? Loaded up on some Thai food for lunch and that did not disappoint.

Lots of local made items. Make sure the check out the back row of shops too. And definitely stick around near Hot Yoga, at the front corner of the market, long enough to watch a plane come zooming in for a landing at Hilo international airport (ITO).Oh, and if it gets too hot, just go jump off the rock platform at Coconut Island to cool off!!

Great local Hawaiian fresh fruit and veggies and flowers. A market catered to locals, not tourists, so the prices are very reasonable. Example of pricing: $2 for 3 solo papayas, $3 dragonfruit, $5 whole pineapple. All vendors very friendly too. So fun to shop!

This is the bigger of several farmer markets around the Big Island. It is open daily from 8 am to 3 pm. The market sells mainly tropical fruits and local merchandizes. As of late Sep - which is near the end of the tropical fruit season, there are still varieties of tropical fruits: mango, mangosteen, longan, lychee, soursop, papaya, banana. The market also offer several types of vegetables such as cucumber, mint, carrots, etc. There are parkings on the nearby streets.

Hilo Farmers Market on Saturday was advertised as the biggest on the Big Island. Yes, there were a lot of fruit and veggie stands but the craft area was underwhelming. I’ve been to many farmers markets and I wouldn’t go back to this. Maybe I’d pick up some produce if I was in the area but wouldn’t make a trip out for it.

Its alright but some of the fruit is actually cheaper at the grocery store, such as bananas and dragon fruit, and at the pharmacy nearby you can get a one dollar bag of carrots but this place sells a bag of the same size for two dollars. however, they have a wide variety of fruit options you are not likely to find elsewhere in town. For example when lychee is in season this place has your back. They also have soursop, ice cream bean, and other fruity curiosities. A lot of rare exotic fruits can and will be found here. But be a smart shopper. As I said, some of their deals are really good- some not so much.

It was raining while I was there, but the fact that all booths were covered made it comfortable to contribute shopping. Hilo lays claim to one of the best open-air markets in Hawaii, and there’s no better spot to pick up colourful local produce and authentic Hawaiian specialities.Being on the fertile, east side of the Island of Hawai’i you’ll be in the perfect location to try fruit like papaya, almost of which are grown close by and harvested from around April to September.See if you can find a strawberry papaya, loved for sweet and juicy pink-orange flesh, while macadamia nuts, notoriously expensive everywhere else, are a bit more affordable closer to the source. For an indulgent sweet treat, look for butter mochi, made with coconut milk and glutinous rice flour, which goes great with coffee, picked and roasted within a few miles of Hilo. The Hilo Farmers’ Market trades every day of the week, but the big days are Wednesday and Saturday, with upwards of 200 vendors

Choice variety of local, seasonal produce and friendly vendors makes a visit to this market a must stop. Parking on busy Wednesdays and Saturdays is a little tight, but free and going early or driving around a few times usually works. In addition to produce, my husband stops at a vendor who sells fresh chicken and duck eggs at a good price. Improved walking surface (graded asphalt vs gravel and muddy potholes), permanent roofing and an attractive backdrop mural show dedication to helping local farmers to provide a reliable and inexpensive food source in an easy access open air market.

Hilo farmers market is a perfect market to get some local fruits and veggies, shop for gifts and local made items, clothes, snacks and house hold goods. The market has a little bit of everything and live music plus numerous stores and eateries surrounding the area so your walk can turn into going to the market then lunch and shopping to walking all around Hilo town square area. The weather is best looked at before you go as it can rain often in Hilo and other days be beautiful and full of sun. Parking is not bad just watch the parking signs for days and hours in certain areas you can park. Prices might seem a bit high on some items but no one said Hawaii was cheap right. Enjoy the market and the local people they love to talk story. Enjoy Hilo and all it has to offer.

Please shop smartly here. We were scammed and in retrospect, we were naive and didn’t use our best judgement. A man was selling white pineapples and sold it to us for $20 and we were told it had low acidity and the sweetest pineapple we will ever have. Came back to the Airbnb and cut it open and it was sour and we realize how stupid we were. Another lady was selling us $10 for a dragonfruit and I knew that was impossible. The vendors here are grumpy and will take advantage of tourists. They will sell you expensive fruits if they sense you are not a local here. Not a great experience and would rather just buy my fruits from sack n save or something.
