Great place to eat Hawaiian shaved ice! We tried Lava flow and it was great! The best part is the haupia cream that comes on the top. The texture of the shaved ice is smooth and easy to eat. Great service and must go for a quick refreshment.

The place makes the ingredients locally so the price is a bit higher than other places but the I believe its worth it. The place looks nice and clean and the staff were really nice. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice treat in a hot day.

Holy delicious! Best shave ice I have ever had! I lived on Maui and been to all the other islands and this takes the cake. I got the local which was amazing but I’m sure all of them are good. Do not pass this by.

Unique organic shave ice! Definitely a little bit on the more expensive side but it’s justified by the use of fresh juices in their flavorings. Great tasting!

Its a very cute place. There was a line but moved relatively fast. I had the local which is soursop and lilikoi shave ice topped with haupia cream childs size. Im glad I tried it once but I wont need to come back. Its expensive for what it offers. I think if you never had shaved iced before, you should try it here once!

I feel like I am on a shaved ice tour around Hawai’i. I’ve been all around the island, and this one we picked because it was closest to another one that was closed. We love it! It is now my favorite! It is so soft, the ice cream that is added makes it so much better, and the flavors taste real, they aren’t just corn syrup! Staff are super friendly too!

First time trying true Hawaiian shaved ice and it was so AMAZING we tried The Kula Rainbow and it was so delicious! Definitely a must go to spot if you’re looking for good shaved ice!

Great spot to have an Acai bowl in Hilo. Located in the farmers market, Kula Shave Ice is a great spot to have an Acai bowl and other shaved ice favorites. Had the Poi bowl which came out great. Lots of toppings with banana and peanut butter. Also had the Hilo sunrise. Definitely recommend if you are in Hilo.

Powder soft shave ice with organic fruit syrups made from local produce. Chewy mochi, pillowy haupia cream, I could go on and on. I was visiting from O’ahu and let me tell you a secret, Kula’s has uprooted Angel’s and Matsumoto’s as my go to favorites. I’ve never had or seen shave ice with the haupia cream, and the lilikoi butter oh my goodness. The strawberry syrup had seeds in it, a good indication of the fresh ingredients. I wish I could say I had more to review but I had the “lava flow” 5 of my 9 days on Big Island. Clearly, I’m a fan!!!! P.S. small mishap of forgetting my mochi on one order, so the sweet girl hooked me up with a couple extra 🤩 Local family owned, born and raised Hawai’i. Amazing dessert option. I forget where I heard about this place, but Im so glad we added it to our list of places to visit in Hilo. It was busy, but thats because its so good.My only suggestion, other than trying as many options as you can, is to go out back to sit and eat. Dont sit on the benches next to the window and eat; let the people waiting for their dessert have those spots.

It is UNREAL how delicious this shave ice is. OMG. Do yourself the favor and stop by. Our favorite is the local with Poi. The coconut cream topping is by far the best thing Ive ever tasted.

Amazing shaved ice. All the flavors are made all natural and in house, and apparently they even make their own ice. Reading a posting on the side of the building, the owners seem to care about the environment and the product they provide. Good spot to go for a tasty treat with a fair price and clean conscience.

Ridiculously delicious shave ice. I am a true convert. I came in expecting a good experience and left wanting to eat all the various options. You can easily split one serving with two people or just hog it all for yourself. Would definitely recommend coming more than once!

Besides a little challenges finding parking, it was amazing! Organic and everything seems to be made by them in house. Its not your typical Hawaiian shave ice experience but if you want to try something with a bit more pizazz this is the spot!

“The Local” shaved ice was yummy, service was great, we (personally) were not fans of the poi base we added! We have been back multiple times since and love the Hawaiian sunset! Yum!

I really enjoyed the texture of the shaved ice very silky, which a lot of places struggle to get right. The organic and fresh made syrups so they only have standard flavors like strawberry, lilikoi, coconut ect. (No Tigersblood or synthetic flavors here) but they were quite delightful I would highly recommend this place if youre particular about your shaved ice, because I am and I was very surprised and satisfied.

We’ve had a few different flavors and they’re all really good. The coffees are also good - and all for good prices. There’s a poke shop next door that also serves burgers & fries and some other things. It’s a small place, but the staff are really friendly and the food is so much better than other overpriced restaurants on the island.

We had The Local and the Kura Sunrise - incredibly flavorful and the cream on The Local was so creamy and sweet. Kind and knowledgeable staff. Cant say enough good things- go try it for yourself!

The best food I ate on the Big Island came from here. The shave ice might be a few dollars more than other places BUT the fact that they make their own syrups from natural ingredients makes it a better value overall. I highly recommend The Local! Its light and flavorful, and doesnt leave you feeling sugary or heavy. Its the perfect dessert. They also dont use plastic bowls and have lots of vegan options! I wish I could have tried all the flavors.

I got mango and lilikoi shaved ice with condensed coconut milk & haupia cream (coconut whipped cream). Service was fantastic - super nice staff. The flavor of the lilokai was awesome, but condensed coconut milk didn’t add much. Would recommend!

After being on this island for weeks and trying sooo many shave ice spots, let me tell you that this is THE BEST shave ice! Natural ingredients and yummy! Perfect size too! I love going to the farmer’s market for some tamales/thai papaya salad and then for dessert getting ‘the local’ shave ice at this spot! Give them some love and you won’t regret it ;)

My Favorite Dessert on the IslandAt the request of our guest who came and stayed with us here, we joined him on a shave ice tour of the island. While there is a lot of great shave ice here on the Big Island, my favorite, hands down, is the Lilikoi Dreamsicle at Kulas in Hilo. It costs more than a typical shave ice in many places here, for me it is dreamy unrivaled.

It was so delicious I definitely recommend for travelers! It is probually my favorite shave j e place on Hawaii.

We always get shave ice when we go to Hawaii. Mostly because it is just something you do. However, when we went to Kula Shave Ice in Hilo, it was a completely different experience for me. The flavors were not just flavored syrup you buy at the store. It appeared and tasted as if was a real fruit syrup/sauce. I don’t know that I would drive all the way to Hilo from Kona just to get another one, but I will not go to Hilo again without stopping there.
