If youre looking for a well run restaurant in the Reston/Herdon area that specializes in breakfast the Virginia Kitchen is the place for you! Went at prime breakfast time around 10 am on Saturday and although they were busy we were seated immediately. Our server greeted us quickly and was very friendly. Our breakfast came out extremely quickly and was delicious. Prices are great too. 5 out of 5 stars. Ill definitely be back!
Been here twice and have loved it both times! But the best part besides the food has been the service. Amazing service! All a diner should be! Only suggestion/recommendation would be to have a few more healthier choices for substitutes. For example, turkey bacon, avocado, egg whites, etc... But overall a great experience!!!
As I had mentioned in a previous commentary, the Virginia Kitchen is a unique restaurant in that it boasts of the best breakfast in Herndon. And why not, the Virginia Kitchen definitely is competitive with the IHOP next door as far a breakfast specials. However, what makes the Virginia Kitchen a cut above is the freshness and quality of the breakfast specials. The food is prepared to order with fresh products and the staff is efficient at providing good service. I only sat down a couple of minutes and I was having orange juice delivered - and not any old orange juice or of a carton or can, this was freshly squeezed. And folks the orange juice is so good, its a limited item. The breakfast was good too, I ordered the El Paso Western Omlette. Never had it before, but I really wanted something different and it was. I was amazed that it was covered with chili and cheese. What an experience to enjoy a platter I never had and to really enjoy it as much as I expected. In addition, they have fresh pies here too. I ordered a slice of apple to take home and it was awesome. Big chunks of apple with a great crust - homemade. In any case, go visit this location and see for yourself. I wouldnt street you wrong when it comes to food that tastes good.
Great Country Fried Steak! We were so hungry we forgot to take pictures. Guess well have to go back.Seating hostess was rather engaged in convo with the regulars (I could become a regular....) so we had to wait more than 5 minutes for menus to be provided as our waitress was super busy. It would have been appreciated to have received menus from the young bus boys who stared at us for a minute and then moved on....why wait for our waitress to give us the menus? Its okay to give waiting patrons menus even if its not your assigned task. Our waitress was superb! She was welcoming, genuine and made great suggestions. Didnt get her name but will update next time we go. 😉The only bummer is that they close at 2pm.
Excellent food and breakfast options. Hash browns were fresh and crispy - these guys have wide range of options for breakfast and sides. Fun vibe!
First time trying this quaint breakfast joint. Overall the experience was nice. Staff were friendly. Food was fast (although one of our party did not get the correct order). Service otherwise was slow - waited 15 minutes for a check. I would recommend avoiding on weekends but definitely good for a quick bite any other time!
Bottom line: Decent food, dirty restaurant, awful service. Online orders get ignored.I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times. Each time, there’s been several people waiting in the tiny space in front of the register being completely ignored by the wait staff AND owner. However, if you’re one of those age 65+ Caucasian regulars, you get greeted before both feet are in the door.If you’re lucky enough to make eye contact with a server, you can expect to be seated and treated to a breakfast which is about 10% better than IHOP at 150% the price.Additionally, I ordered online for takeout twice. Both times, I received the same quality of service (ie: not being greeted for several minutes) and was told my food was “almost ready.” Today, I was picking up breakfast for our wedding anniversary. Again I was told that my order was “almost ready” which apparently meant that they would begin making it approximately 15 minutes after my arrival. I spent nearly 40 minutes in total waiting in the lobby.
At Virginia Kitchen we always have breakfast. Together my husband and I have probably tried all the items on their breakfast menu. The pancakes have crispy edges and smell heavenly. I always ask for the hashbrowns crispy and Im never disappointed. The eggs are great. I always ask for them over medium and they come out a little runny but If that is the only issue, Im 100% satisfied and a happy woman.
Clean, friendly service as Id remembered. Stopped by while in town for good home-cooked breakfast -- their speciality.
Great diner feel and food. Great homemade biscuits. Eggs, pancakes, and sausage was good. Hash browns were a bit too soft versus crunchy. Service was quick to take drinks and food order. During weekend morning rush it was a bit slow to get the check.
This is my favorite brunch place in VA. It’s family owned and everything’s fresh even their amazing orange juice. I’ve taken my parents, my grad a parents, heck the whole family here and never been disappointed. I even took my husband here for our mini moon and made him a believer . The food is always exactly what you want from the pancakes to the sandwich’s to the omelets. This small family owned restaurant doesn’t ever disappoint ( unless you count the fact that’s it’s soo far away from NJ! ). I’ll be back every year though and I’ll be eating a club sandwich and stack of pancakes with a side of fresh OJ.
I had been there before im normally not in Herdon in the am, my last 2 visits they were closed. Had the hearty breakfast 3 eggs potatoes and 4 slices bacon (thick) amazing only $10, staff very friendly and place is spotless
I visited my son in Reston last week, and we decided to stop for some brunch at Virginia Kitchen! We heard good comments about the food and couldnt wait to order some delicious pancakes. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Although the service was exceptional and the food was good, the actual place was absolutely unacceptable!! The carpet looked like it hadnt been cleaned in so long, and the decorations were tacky and old. Their was dust everywhere! The doors were sticky and the bathrooms had no AC! My mom who had asthma almost died in there!! the owner seemed to be much more interested in telling her life story, then cleaning the carpet. Will NOT be coming back.
Great throwback old school quality breakfast place /diner!
Mothers day visit and the food did not fail us at all. Ice cold Coke along with Annettes combination really hit the spot. My wife had Eggs Benedict and the ham was a thick cut and the Hollandaise sauce was made to her liking. Corned beef hash reminds me of how my grandma use to make it so it really brought it home for me today on Mothers day. Service was excellent and we look forward to coming back again.
One of the best places to take your breakfast.I assume same quality and taste for other meals.
Virginia kitchen has really tasty specials for breakfast. I love going here on the weekend.
We have quickly become regulars for the weekend. Fast and accurate. Delicious food. I am a favorite of the Coffee of the day. Recommend going early vs later because the seating can fill up fast. Family and budget friendly.
Local landmark that never fails to meet expectations. Great food, great service
Great breakfast at reasonable price. Great service, too.
A Herndon institution. Always great food and friendly service.
Great place for Breakfast Brunch. Food comes out quick and fresh made..
Best breakfast restaurant in town!!!Every weekend there is a new special, from Cornbread waffles to Cajun biscuits and gravy. Any breakfast food desire you may have they have it. I have been coming here for over 6 years almost every weekend. If you havent been here try it tomorrow. The staff is very friendly and what helps is its the same folks that work here for over 15 years which creates consistency.
Delicious breakfast, large portions, and wonderful service. The staff members were very friendly and helpful and made me feel at home right away.
Great breakfast and lunch place, near Reston Town Center. Excellent food, good prices, and terrific service. Highly recommended.
Good service, friendly staff. Average to good food.
Good food from a good place. It has that local down home feel.
Best breakfast/brunch spot in town. They serve a good lunch too but I cant ever seem to pass up breakfast. The only bad thing is that I really have to work hard to convince myself that it is ok to have pie with breakfast! Thos place feels like home and the crew all knows their regulars by name. You should become one!
Great place for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch.. Deliciousness.
Waitress was sweet, food came fast, not crowed, clean, however the food was very bland and I had some corned beef under my hashbrowns, I do not like corned beef at all, eww.
Great food and outdoor seating. Good place for families.
Went to ihop and never got greeted so we left and walked to Virginia Kitchen and was very pleased with the staff, amazing food, and awesome prices!
I had passed by Virginia Kitchen a number of times during my time in Northern Virginia, but hadnt had the occasion to visit. After my workout this morning, I felt like grabbing breakfast out, and remembered that I hadnt yet tried this place, so I gave it a shot. It was what I was looking for: a nice diner feel with a good selection of items to choose from. I got Annettes Combination, with a waffle, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and turkey sausage. Save for a bit of crispiness in the waffle, all was very good. The place was packed and did a very good morning business.
Great breakfast, big menu diner style, service is fantastic. Can’t ask for more out of a locally owned diner.
Consistently good food and friendly service. We go once a week!
Went with some friends, waitress was so kind and always checking up on us. Food came fast and hot! Nice size portions and for once a place where my bacon, eggs and hasbrowns werent greasy! Amazing! Better that cracker barrel. Think for now on i may go the few extra miles for this place!
Excellent breakfast place. The food is good and reasonably priced.
One of my favorite places to grab breakfast in the area. I make it a point to get there once a week. The staff is really cool and friendly. They’re a business we need to keep supporting during the pandemic.
Delicious homemade soup!!! Friendly and attentive waitstaff. Will definitely stop back in anytime I am in the area.
I’ve been going here for 14 years but today it was not good.I got my food quickly but everything was cold. The coffee was Luke warm. I asked the waiter to Put It in a microwave for one minute - He put it in for 15 seconds. I was never asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee either. Finally I requested a coke to go and my check. After watching my waiter go back and forth from the back to other customers 4 times I finally got my check. $15 for cold eggs, undone bacon, and a cup of coffee with toast slightly toasted. I asked for salt and creamer and he gave me small little packets, barely enough. How disappointing. The kitchen really let me down today.
Great service and menu choices. Love the homemade biscuits!
This is one of my very favorite hometown restaurants. We love to come for their breakfast specials. The food is great and their staff are so friendly. I’ve been a regular customer for years now.
Best experience ever! Everything was simply decadent. I want to hire their decorator to furnish my apartment. Everything was just so yummy. They got a new customer for life!
This was my 1st time here and I read the reviews before I tried it. I have to say, they did not steer me wrong. I took my sons and i wanted to take them to a diner, some place that makes authentic food and not a chain restaurant. So glad this worked out. One of them had the Cheddar Sunrise (same as me) and the other had the Eggs Benedict. All of us got the hashbrowns on the side and they were awesome. We will definitely come back and try other things! Oh, and I met the owner, a pleasant gentleman. :)
Delicious breakfast spot in Herndon. We love the hash browns!
Very nice cozy restaurant. Service was impeccable. The food was well prepared.
Its a local diner with really fast service and personalized service. they have pretty good food and they have a good variety on their menu.
Food was pretty good. Hasnt been there in years and was happy with it decision. VK followed coronavirus prevention practices. I had the El Paso omelette with onion rings. Pretty tasty and the onion rings were very crisp and yummy. Hubby had the open faced roast beef sandwich. He liked it though he thought that the gravy was a little on the cold side. My boys enjoyed their meals of pancake with sides and popcorn shrimp and sides.
The best diner left in Herndon!
Sausage was terrible, eggs had a different taste, not bad but wont visit again
Had lunch here. Friendly service. Good portions.
I just found this place a month ago. Ive gone 3 times now. Incredibly clean, friendly, reasonably priced and the best breakfast Ive had in years. The country ham was exceptional. Ill go back again for sure.
Quaint and homely. The food was average, the staff is reduce so maybe the cooks are different. I just enjoy the staff and service.
We go here often but this visit was disappointing! The sausage patties we were served were at least a day old, dried out and overcooked. Service was excellent and place was clean but we are not sure well go back.
Always visit when in town from New Jersey. Food and service is excellent
My Wife and I have gone to Virginia Kitchen almost weekly for many years, and just love the place! Owners Link and Julie do a great job running the restaurant: great food, great wait staff, great atmosphere. We highly recommend Virginia Kitchen -- Link and Julie treat all the customers like family!
Been going here since the 90s. Love this place for breakfast plus the owner/manager and his staff are the nicest, down-home people; most of his staff have worked there for years. The old guard of previous staff have since retired. Ive eaten lunch here as well but their breakfasts are what theyre known for. Not a fancy place but a place where the locals go and just a good place to go for breakfast.I may be moving across country in a few months and will miss this place. :(
Nice, good quality local diner food. They even have gluten free toast, which was not advertised on the menu or website anywhere. I only subtracted one star because of all the up-charges (for GF bread, egg whites instead of eggs, and turkey sausage instead of regular sausage). I understand all of them except for the sausage up-charge. But I would still go back to try the grits and a couple other food items. Service was very fast and friendly. The place was packed when we went but it still wasn’t too loud for us to have a normal conversation, which was nice.
The place is nice the food is good. Have been an customer for years.
Place is great however this young lady that works there... is terribly rude. Dark hair young, and terrible service. I’ve been coming here for years and she makes me never want to come back.
The homemade jelly was delicious 🤤🤭 and the servers are very nice 👌☺ we finished everything off our plates 😘
This is the type of place that people will look back on in 20 years with nostalgia. The food is good and the service is great.
My favorite place to go to for breakfast. I usually get the Annettes special, but have ordered other selections as well. Ive never had a bad meal here. The coffee is great too and on weekends, they have a featured coffee to choose from also. This past weekend, they had pumpkin spice. You can buy their mugs at the checkout counter. I now have two, a nice addition to my serving collection at home.
We love 💖 this place
I have enjoyed Virginia Kitchen for over 9 years. They make you feel like family, every visit. The food is superb. You leave very satisfied. I could eat there every day. The price is very reasonable too. Rodney and Yvonne
Ive been driving past this place for ten years and always assumed it was a kitchen store, i.e. marble counters and stoves. This morning, My Beautiful Wife informs me its a restaurant. WHAT ELSE HASNT SHE TOLD ME?!?!? Anyway, we went for a meal today and its like a classic diner, only way better. Spotlessly clean, great service, and very well prepared, and well priced, diner classics. Looking forward to our next visit.
The food is good quality at a very good price. The service was quick. Parking was not bad. This place is very good for brunch. The sandwiches are good quality and size. I have not tried any of the breakfast items.
Everything I have had was good. I have been back multiples times. The prices are reasonable. The service is friendly and fast. They are flexible with substitutions. Always remember to check the daily specials.
This is a great place to eat. The food is outstanding and the service is wonderful. I highly recommend Virginia Kitchen to everyone. You cant go wrong with the food or the service. A little hint, on Saturdays get there early. Rule of thumb for them is line at nine. By nine in the morning, you will be standing in a line. But the wait is well worth it. Stop by and have a great meal with outstanding service. This place deserves 10 stars.
First time here from Texas; staff are very friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. The bathroom needed some cleaning up. The food was good, but definitely overpriced. Anettes special and Big johns breakfast special plus 2 orange juices and 2coffees cost $39 for two people. Seems expensive for diner food! Staff were very welcoming though!
Not sure why the hype. Maybe breakfast is better than lunch.I got a grilled ham and cheese and it was a tiny child sized sandwich. Ordered cinnamon apples which were clearly from a can.My friend ordered liver and onions with a garden salad and green beans. The Greek beans were also very canned. The salad was some Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and peppers with packaged ranch dressing. It was inedible. They were kind enough to remove it from the bill.I don’t think anything is made fresh here. Yuck.
Low key good food and friendly service.
I loved the food and the staff I would come back to eat there again
We love this small, warm, friendly, family-owned restaurant. Thats because the staff go out of their way to let you know they are happy that you came. The delicious food is freshly made in the kitchen & not from a frozen package. We live in Burke & we make sure we stop there any time we are nearby. It feels even better than going home each time we eat at the Virginia Kitchen.
Tasty food and friendly staff. The decor was very quaint.
Always a welcome breakfast break! This is exactly the sort of house-made hometown good stuff you e been looking for. The staff are fantastic and attentive. You can’t go wrong with any breakfast choice on the menu. They make a legitimate biscuit.
A great dinning experience every time. Friendly staff and good food.
The best local diner style place to get breakfast in the area. You cant go wrong with their biscuits or sausage gravy. The specials are often very good and a nice deviation from their regular offerings!
Been going to VK for several years and have never had a bad meal.
Food and service always fantastic!!! my go to breakfast place
Great food fair prices!
Big menu gotta go with big appetite if you have a sweet salty fetish order a plate jack somethinf with bacon-and-eggs and add pancakes
Love this place, great food, very nice staff
