In September/October 2021 I purchased custom kitchen cabinets from Builders Surplus and I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with the poor workmanship and experience. Will Builders Surplus do anything to address these issues? I couldnt find any email for Builders Surplus, so unfortunately I have to write this review. Here are my 3 biggest issues:1. Builders Surplus sold us a trash cabinet, but no trash cans fit in it. Ive ordered 6 different-sized trash cans to date, and none fit in the opening - see trashcans.jpg for reference. I called the person who helped us with our cabinet order asking her what trash cans to buy, but she said she didnt know and couldnt find out.2. Grey panels dont match - see greypanels.jpg attached. I called the person who helped us to tell her that the grey panels dont match and she couldnt help me. The best she could do was tell me to take a sample to a paint store so that I could buy paint and paint them. Thats unacceptable and costly for a mistake that Builders Surplus is responsible for.3. This is relatively minor, but still an annoyance. Why didnt they take the plastic off the cabinets before screwing in the hinges? See hinges.jpg for reference. Its painstaking work to remove the plastic thats screwed in.

5 star treatment. Demetrius helped my husband and myself and both times he went above and beyond to help us find the door we never knew we wanted! He took his time and asked what we were looking each time. Found it! I recommend them and would return!

Rude associates. I went there twice with a friend who had health issues. On each occasion, the customer service was severely lacking. On the first visit, my friend went in alone. She knew exactly what she wanted, but they misdirected her repeatedly to wrong sections of the store. She spent 30 minutes waiting for someone to correctly direct her to the right place. The next day we went there again to purchase more of the same because enough hadnt been purchased. I thought my friend had exaggerated her experience. She had not. The same blatant level of disrespect was displayed again not only to her but to another store associate as well. My friend ended up asking for a refund because what she had originally purchased had mold on it. She had brought back only one of the items as a sample to get more. She decided to chalk the other items as a lost because she didnt want to interact with the store anymore. Our issues were brought to the manager on duty who revealed she had seen the current days interaction. Except for the acknowledgement, nothing was essentially done. I would never consider making future purchases from this store. Ever.

Really helpful. Lots of choices available to walk out with or pick up later...up to 14 days later. Much larger than you think from the front...it goes back on and on and on.

The staff and all of the stuff they have for sale are all amazing. Not only does builders surplus have an amazing selection of things to pick from, their staff is there and ready to help you in a blink of an eye. This is an edited review, as it was lower when masks were forced. Now that theyve done away with forcing masks, I went back and bought an awesome iron front door here. We love our new entrance to our home!

Helpful easy to talk to staff that are interested in getting you what you need. Much much larger selection than Home Depot or Lowes. Also when you find something that you like you dont have to pay to order it waiting weeks or months before delivery. Nope, simply load it up and get started on getting done with the project.

Dont you dare buy a door from this place!!! I just purchased (2) french doors. After install we discovered that both of the threshold caps were broken. There is no returning a set of installed french doors. Im not even sure who broke them. I just know I need new ones. I got on the phone and there was no answer, some continuous loop asking you to press 0 for operator then repeating the same message. Drove an hour to get there and they had no idea how to get a replacement. All they knew is that they did not have any and I was on my own. They couldnt even tell me who made the doors. They apparently build them themselves. So if you ever need a part for your door, you have been warned. I wish I had purchased a door with a name on it. Next time I certainly will.

The Doors have a big time factory defects.even the lock sets come with defects.I rather pay more somewhere else for a better quality door.Remember,once you leave this place with your purchase....NO RETURNS . double check your items just in case you didnt know.

Came here to buy two barn doors that will be going side by side. The employee pulled and loaded them up for me. Came home to stain them and realized the grain on one of them is vertical and not horizontal. Builders surplus will not take it back.

DONT BUY DOORS HERE. I experienced terrible customer service. The doors I bought all have damage including a lot of factory damage and they wont take them back for refund or exchange. You will be stuck with damaged doors. So frustrating when you spend thousands and get stuck with damaged doors. If you insist on buying here you must check each and every door before buying them or you will be sorry. Impossible to reach the owner about any problems. I dont believe all those 5 star reviews -- not even one 2,3,4??? I wonder if they are fake?

My experience is limited to my dealings with Grant about a door purchase gone wrong. Paid extra money to these guys to have a custom exterior door built for my home. They built the door the wrong configuration upon pickup. Great, they resolved that issue on the spot and rebuilt it for the correct configuration. I did not notice it once loaded in the truck but my installing contractor advised me that blinds were installed crooked, the bottom of the door had been cut by what looks a jigsaw very poorly creating a bad seal, and the door was not hung correctly at the shop with the holes they predrilled. So I paid my installing contractor almost the cost of the door to fix the items listed so that everything was installed “right”. I also had requested a specific type of glass in this door since it was exterior that I was advised by my installing contractor was not installed. Tried to resolve these issues with Grant who advised me that this door was typical of their standards and was “in spec/a great condition door”. Thank goodness for my credit card company who resolved this since there is no integrity at builder surplus. First and last purchase here. Go elsewhere.

I went to look at interior doors and every employee I saw was standing around doing nothing but chattering amongst themselves. Didnt seem interested in helping at all only to get us gone. I would rather pay more and get better service then shop here again

This place is a joke. They only cater to certain customers. My husband and I came in today and saw at least 6 associates 3 customers and not one of them asked if we needed help. They stood around talking and one just looked at us and didn’t say anything. I asked a guy (Geraldo)at the register for a manager and told him our experience and he quickly called one (Rita) and apologized to us. Rita was very helpful. I wouldn’t buy a pack of nails in this place. Acceptable Discrimination NOT COOL…0 stars for me

I have been a customer for years. This was the first time ive experienced price gouging at Builders Surplus.I purchased cabinet knobs at this store for $37...thinking pricing must be increasing because of the pandemic. After i left Builders Surplus, i went to 2 well-known Surplus stores to continue my search for countertops. While i was there i decided to price the same knobs and noticed that they were $15 - $17 at each store.I made the purchase thinking that the pricing was fair (considering the times were in), so that is my fault; but my trust in Builders Surplus has been lost. I hope the extra funds they got from the sale will suffice for future purchases that i will not be making at this store.

What an operation. The customer service is unmatched. Typically at these places you come in and find things yourself and ask questions if you have them. From Chase who came right up to ask us for help to Ron who almost turned into our personal tour guide, we felt well taken care of today and we will certainly be back. Loved this experience. And the prices are soooooo right.

We just walked in for the first time and hour before close on Saturday. There were so many people working that there was always someone right there to help us. Plus every employee seemed genuinely happy to be there, smiles on their faces asking if they can help. Multiple employees acknowledged our 15 month old son too and tried to make him smile or giggle. It was really sweet.Prices were around the same or less than what weve seen at other surplus stores. This place is far from our home, but we will buy from them over the other stores simply because of the employees.

We have been to Builders Surplus twice now and walked away extremely satisfied both times. Ken, one of their employees, worked with us both times lining us up with a French door, slab pantry door, and a gorgeous vanity while saving us $800 in the process.
