Weve been going to Dan Kays for several years since we received a recommendation from a friend. They are one of the very few honest mechanics in town that wont try to take advantage of you. We have an older car, and they know our priority is to keep it running. They actually assess the vehicle and determine what it needs rather than looking at a chart with mileage recommendations. Repairs and maintenance are always done well and we never have mysterious issues after servicing the vehicle. The road construction by them has been awful for a long time, but their customers keep coming back because they know they do fair business. The city/FDOT need to get on finishing that street!

I did all I could to troubleshoot myself: changed relays, checked fuses, compressor clutch, and so on. Kays took time to listen to what Id done already, and to what I thought could be wrong with my car; they gave me an estimate up front; and they called me quickly with status updates. Not only was I happy with their service, but they told me to call back or bring in if any more issues would arise and theyd work with me as part of the original assessment price. Both the front desk and the mechanic were personable, patient, and informative. Kays has the hallmarks of a great local business worth returning to.

I was having issues with my car battery dying and they ran a diagnostics and told me it was my battery and not my alternator. So they replaced my battery for $260 and 2 days later my battery died again. I took it back to them and they said it mustve been a faulty battery and kept my car overnight to make sure there wasnt a parasitic draw. 2 days after that my battery died again. After weeks of trying to figure this out I took my car to the dealership and they said it was my alternator and replaced it, now my car is working again. While its possible this was an honest mistake, it was deeply frustrating and disappointing to spend money and time I didnt have to on this. I will not be taking my car back there.

The most honest and friendly mechanics I have had the pleasure to work with. Very knowledgeable! I had a repair the felt just wasnt worth it for the value of the car. They could have made the repair but rather than my wasting money they told me and I really appreciated it. I ended up getting another car and the 3K they saved went toward the replacement. They put the customer first!

Ive been going to Dan Kays for over a year. They dont pressure you if you know what you need done, but they will also look over everything if you ask them. I moved to a different city recently and have been struggling to find an honest mechanic. I called around for quotes the other week for a transmission fluid flush, oil change, and tire rotation. A dealership and an independent shop quoted around $240-$260 for the jobs, while Dan Kays completed all of it for $130. Aside from basic oil changes and tire rotations, Ive had them do heavy duty jobs like a clutch replacement. Not a single complaint. Great, honest people.

Every time Ive needed a repair, Ive been treated fairly and honestly here. Even when going in for something as simple as an oil change, other places try to sell me on other stuff (like cabin air filters and things like that) and thats never happened here. Ive never felt ripped off, and that says a lot as a woman going in to a car repair place.

Dan and Mike have always taken great care of my car and my family’s cars. They’ll give an honest assessment of the problem, and even tell you how to fix it yourself if it’s not a heavy equipment repair!

We tried to bring our car in for a power steering issue. They said to bring it to the dealership. We called another shop down the street and they said to bring it in and they fixed it immediately.

I have been here three times. All three times were oil changes. Simple I assumed but, first time they didn’t put any on my dust guard bolts back in and then tried to blame me for pulling over a curb.. now I’m under my hood and it appears they just take bolts when they need them because my battery is missing a bolt and the opposing side tightened down to compensate. Never going back again. Another I can’t figure out is why if I get a high mileage oil change I’m supposed to be back after 3000 miles? In the past 3 years I’ve owned my car every high mileage oil change I’ve received has had a 5000 mile gaureentee.

My car wasnt able to switch between gears, so I dropped it off at Dan Kays, which was recommended by a friend. He called me when he figured out the problem, broke down the price into parts and labor, and had it fixed the same day! I had an issue with the car the next day, however, so I brought it back in. He said it was a simple problem to fix and did it without charge. I recommend these guys, since Gainesville has some sleazy places (ahem, Tires Plus).

Told me what was wrong with the car free of charge, honest, no false horror stories. Will consider them for any intensive repairs.
