I have been coming to this Safeway for more than 4 years, and probably more than 5 times, I found expired items on shelves, such as fresh juice, snacks, cereals. For example, yesterday, I found an expired fresh juice in the refrigerator that expired on April 23, 2021. In each time, I informed them regarding this issue, but it seems there is no improvement and no appreciation for me as their regular customer. Maybe they dont like to hear that.

Good food, cold produce needs to be made cooler.

I don’t rate places one star very often but this one is worthy. The bathroom is falling apart and it’s in the employee lounge! The owners haven’t updated this place in forever and it shows. There is a Whole Foods coming up soon and it will run this business out of town very quickly when you compare the two establishments! The manager was also very rude telling me I wasn’t allowed to take photos in a grocery store - seriously?

This is a basic grocery store. It is, as of May 2021, looking a little dated and may be due for a remodel soon, but it is still neat and clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. I like it.

This is my local Safeway. Always get to know the manager. Be friendly and tell jokes and laugh with them. Always say good things. I always say hello how are you to the butcher and the employees who work the Fish Department. Once they become familiar with you and you come to see them they can offer you the best deal no such things as sockeye salmon which is the best salmon. I once was an employee of Safeway so it helps out when I tell him that and we laugh about silly experiences. Like the break room is always dirty and its cheaper to bring your lunch so you can save money.

Although i try not to come here for produce due to a few failed attempts, their customer service is top notch. I enjoy coming here and being treated with kindness and being greeted with smiles as i check out.

Very quiet they have lounge chair in there, you can chill or a Starbucks in the store u could get some good coffee and look up store on wifi. And the other just minutes away. Over all very good oh I forget you can eat outside.

The people at Safeway are wonderful. Their U save program is horrible and discriminates against people who do not have access to a computer or internet. Shame on you Safeway. Savings should be granted to all. Not just the privileged.

They dont have everything you need and prices arent great, but nobody was there so it was easy to shop comfortably. Something you dont get at the new stores in Fairfax. I definitely prefer Safeway for oddly enough, making me feel safe

The place is in desperate need of an upgrade. Ive used the self checkout in lots of different stores. This one is the worst. It was constantly complaining about something. The poor clerk had to unlock the system several times. The whole self checkout is terrible. They need to look at how their competitors are doing things, and update their place.

Use their app to get the savings they are offering.

They allow people without a mask to be inside, 1:07pm. Just overall crummy establishment. The staff is nice but are clueless about where things are/work. This place needs to be replaced by whoefoods quick.

Safeway my favorite supermarket always clean and full shelves

Customer service was not up to par, its always so difficult to find someone here when you are in need of help trying to find something. Everything is pretty cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for

So happy that Safeway has a Coin Star Machine there and the clerk was happy to complete the task by cashing out my Coin Star Machine receipt.

Safeway tends to be overpriced for a market basket, but there sometimes are deals to be had. This particular store has the challenge of being past its best-if-used-by date (and I have found items on the shelves a few times with that problem also), and, because it is on the small side, they often run out of sale items. One Saturday morning, there was a lone cashier, with six people in line. I decided to try the self check-outs. Two were down. Then, the scanner on the one I was using did not work properly. The staff does the best it can with the rundown physical plant and is always pleasant.

The only public bathrooms are upstairs so not handicap accessible plus there isnt a changing table in the mens or womens bathroom. How is this even allowed?!Edit: ok so I missed the handicap bathroom. What about the changing tables?

This place is poorly stocked and under staffed. If you need a very common item and time isnt an issue, then youre going to be ok, but dont bother looking for anything beyond very basic groceries, and expect to spend twice as long as you think. Its a little better since they put in self checkout, but even those are poorly calibrated, so the attendant is definitely going to have to come over and do an override to make sure you arent stealing that pack of gum.

Good local location for a safeway, fast service has mostly what you expect.

Katie was our server nice young lady but not the brightest! Nice to see menu has changed looks pretty good nice to see it compete with other chains! Only memorable thing was Katie came out and offered desserts!

Fairfax City Safeway is a smaller store but well stocked. Was disappointed that three clerks were hanging around blocking my entry(6 foot social distancing) until I motioned them to move. Only one complied, the others ignored m e....

This Safeway has greatly improved over the last 6 months. Management has done a good job in its focus on quick and efficient check outs. No more mauling peoples names in a senseless parody of friendliness. Decent prices and convenient parking are also helpful. Well done! While I would not have in the past, I do now highly recommend the Fairfax City Safeway.

Safeway is pretty expensive and you have to have their membership thing to get discounts but its still pricey after the discounts.

I will always love this store and hate it. Check dates on items. Really..... But in a pinch this place tends to have what your are looking for.

Never impressed by prices here since walmart carries most of this at half, but when I had to go here the staff were always a lot of fun. There are occasionally some decent deals here and it was convenient for me because it was in walking distance.

Waited at deli to get meat slice and the guy told me to get the pre sliced meat instead. I asked if I could get the meat sliced and he told me “you can but there’s pre sliced meat over there” he proceeded to give another customer multiple samples of potato salad instead of helping me.

This used to be my go-to grocery store but in the past few months, I have found so many expired items at this location that I have stopped shopping here. If you pick up an item, there is about 50% chance that it is expired. They sell expired meat (bacon, ground chicken, chicken legs, pork), veggies (carrots, celery), milk, old bay seasoning, yogurt, eggs, and the list goes on. So I do not recommend this location at all. If you really have to shop here, make sure to check the expiration date for every product you buy.

Smaller than average store. Produce section was nice, but bakery was so, so. Store is located in a hard to access strip mall and is not visible from the street. So you wont find it if you arent looking for it. This is a store badly in need of a refresh. But if you know where it is and what you need, its still a perfectly satisfactory neighborhood grocery store.

This is my neighborhood Safeway and I am always satisfied with their service.

Willard Way Safeway is still my favorite. Its the right size for a good variety of specialty foods, yet you can get in and out quickly if thats what you need to do. Produce, full service Pharmacy, chilled items (dairy etc.), fresh Meat and Poultry, and a pretty good Deli rim the store, with aisles of dry and canned products in straight line of sight front to back.

Very old school grocery store...this place hasnt changed since the 80s, and I mean that in the best way. I thought the kids from Stranger Things were going to pop up at any moment. My one criticism would be maybe a bit more friendly customer service.

I am totally disappointed with their professionalism. I have bought a Greek yogurt from this store on March 29, 2019. As I was buying this from Safeway I didnt check the date. But the expiry date of this product 7 March, 2019.

Its a Safeway, not much more to say. Standard American grocery chain. Prices and selection are decent if unremarkable. Produce is not as good as any of the Asian supermarkets, but it smells better😀. If you live nearby like I do, you can shop here with confidence.

Decent normal Safeway

Not crowded and had what I came for.

Its the only grocery store in the area and its convenient for me. Thats why I go there. It has a decent selection, reasonable prices but its kind of a depressing place. Dont know why but its just a standard just above mediocre grocery store.

Safeway is a very good grocery store. There is almost everything that an average household will need in terms of food including organic items under its own O Organics brand. The only issue is to maximize saving one needs to get store card and app and on a weekly basis add promo items to the list using app. Since store sells hundreds of items you end up adding through app all of those items which is a bit tedious and will take some time. If store app would allow for all items to be added using one click it would truly be great. Always check the receipt before leaving store as some promos do not register and you have to engage customer service for price adjustments.

This Safeway has a lot of in between things you wont find at Walmart or Trader Joes. Otherwise, its clean, organized, and in a convenient location.

This store is really outdated. The layout is weird and the aesthetics are horrible. The employees are not friendly or helpful and that us if you can find any. The store is cluttered and dirty. A lot of stations look dirty where you can serve yourself fresh food. I will not be shopping here ever again. First impressions are lasting. The fact that the people dont look happy and the store looks dirty tells me there may be a risk on how the food is handled.

This Safeway is long overdue for a makeover. People refer to this as the ghetto Safeway for good reason. It is in horrible condition despite being next to a gorgeous neighborhood. The entire shopping strip is in desperate need of a major overhaul.

Overall, a standard grocery store.Probably the worst Deli I have ever encountered. Half the time I give up after waiting a few minutes to be acknowledged. Often while getting my food cut, I see 1-2 people stop by then leave and give me an exasperated look. Today I waited 5 minutes watching an employee cleaning something with her back to me. I did not feel like yelling so that she could hear me over the water.This has been going on for years. I dont know why I still bother sometimes. At least they are consistent ....Funny story: one employee took his sweat stained hat off and put it on the scale. I suspect they send employees who cant do anything else to work at the deli. Probably they should close it so as to not give customers false hope.

Safeway needs to get up to speed in style, size and selection. They are behind the times. I come here when I have to, not by choice if I need something they carry.

Always quick and courteous service. Pharmacy is particularly responsive and helpful. Reasonable prices and quality compared to Wegmans or Walmart. Been going here for over ten years and never had a problem. If there is something unique I cannot find, they are happy to order and stock them. Very responsive.

Absolutely TERRIBLE. Have shopped here a few times before despite the fact that everything is more expensive at this store than pretty much any other grocery in the area. But this time we got treated terribly by the person ringing us up. Not only did he express annoyance that we chose his checkout stand, he proceeded to act terribly, judging that we were spending too much to be college students, and acting bitterly about my husband and I buying certain items. The body language and tone was hostile, and when I could get the same items much cheaper anywhere else, we have no need and never wish to shop here again. Im sure other workers there are great, but this has dissuaded me from ever giving them a chance.

The staff were so helpful they showed me where everything was that I needed to get.

This store needs to be parted get rid of the registers they arent using add 4 self checkouts 2 security guards armed and they would make some money. I watched a van with 2 guys pull up park behind the pizza place go in with nothing and come out with 2 big backpacks of stuff at different times and looked different. It was crazy. No there was nothing I could do I had just gotten out of surgery and all I could see was a dc plate I called.

This place needs a facelift. It is old and tired. Often it is out of the item I have come in to buy.

Unsanitary and staff doesnt care. A poor kid was puking in the aisle, the mom stayed with her 4yr old daughter. I tried to get her help and tell someone that clean up was needed. The staff member standing at the register said she wasnt on duty, barely looked up from her phone and refused to tell anyone. The next person said they would tell the manager. I went back to tell the mom someone should be coming, she told me she told the person at the deli who also could care less because talking to their friend was more important. The mom found towels and cleaned up the mess herself before anyone from the store could even walk over to that aisle. I will never shop there again. Gross and Rude!

Great essential groceries store with exactly what you are looking for regularly in stock. lines can be a little long at register but they usually call in extra staff really quickly.

I can never find what I am looking for here. The staff isnt helpful, and the checkouts are slow. The bonus card sometimes works, but usually doesnt. This is based on many reluctant visits over several years as it is conveniently located. I wish there was another grocery store in the city.

No cart return places, have to return to the front of store. Pricey if items arent on sale.

Shame on you Safeway. Im hanicapped Anns walk with a cane. The restrooms are upstairs. I cant walk up stairs. Now the sign says handicap bathroom in back thru stockroom. So I asked the manager and he mage a big deal of it. Saying its a safety issue and someone has to be back there with me. Basically denying me the restroom. Very upsetting.

There was about 15 employees working so that was good. They werent busy so the employees were congregating at the front. I would rather there be too much than too few staff. Large selection of produce and cereal which is what I came for. I didnt like that it looked dark and old and creepy in there. And the cashier was not very friendly he wasnt mean either but he was juts like dead silent and mean mugged me. All in all I would come back

I travel to Latin America frequently, and this Safeway reminds me of supermercados in some of the poorer cities there. It is conveniently located, but we only shop there when we need one or two things and do not want to drive. It is poorly stocked, and freshness can be a problem. For example we never buy milk at this Safeway, because it always goes sour a day or two after the purchase. The store is badly in need of a face lift, and the staff is generally indifferent - look in Aisle 6 instead of taking the customer to the proper shelves. If one is willing to drive a mile or a little more, there are much better grocery stores, including another Safeway on Nutley Street. A third world experience at first world prices. Added May 2019 - It has gotten worse over time with abysmal service the norm. The clerks are rude, hostile to questions. Yesterday was my last trip to that store!
