I love being able to walk to my local bike store. The selection is good and the service is excellent. I’ve gotten tires, tubes, and a helmet here. Every time I chat with a team member, I learn something new, and I appreciate that it feels friendly, never condescending or aggressive. As a petite woman of color who has been riding and repairing my own bike for the last fifteen years, I’m unfortunately used to being talked down to. I’m grateful this doesn’t happen here. Also love the free air outside the shop 24/7–I’ve definitely topped up during midnight rides! Thank you for being all around awesome!
A great bike shop with friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a wide selection of bikes, clothing and gear too. Stop in. You wont be disappointed!
Great service and helpful staff. Love the 30 day/100% refund test ride policy. And enjoying my new bike!
Great customer service, as always! I coordinated with the Evanston location to receive my daughter’s bike directly from Virginia. They then put it back together, looked it over and sent me an email with their recommendations. Once it was all done (in a very timely manner), I received another email telling me it was ready for pickup. A very pleasant and professional experience all around. Thank you!!
Great Bike shop they where the only one who had the bike I wanted in stock, luckily it was in my size. Tom Wallace the Store Manager was super helpful and did not try to sell me anything i did not need. Going back to get fitted in a couple of weeks. Would definitely shop there again.
The associate who took my phone call was very accommodating and patient. She waited as I took a picture of the part I needed and email it. She shared it with the service team who knew exactly what I needed (barrel adjuster). When I came into the store, they took one look at my bike and knew which size I needed. Brett, one of the managers, was friendly and helpful, and fixed it right on the spot! Thanks W & S!
Nicest and most helpful team. Great product range. And supportive of the community! Im moving to Calif. and will miss you guys!
Wheel and Sprocket is very friendly but their mechanical work is unreliable and regularly disappointing: two years ago they overhauled my bike with a different wheel size (telling me that the old size, 26”, is no longer being made); the rear wheel they gave me caused had a malformation that caused my cassette to wobble, which in turn caused my shifting to be irregular and unreliable— they did not investigate this thoroughly and were not able to solve this problem when I brought it back in a couple months later. It took a different shop mechanic to try the cassette on a new wheel and fix the issue. Finally, two friends have in the past couple months gotten their bikes back from simple tune-ups with noticeably uncentered and wobbling wheels. Worth looking for a more reliable shop, I’m sorry to say.
BROKE MY BIKE! VERY LOW QUALITY!I gave two bikes for maintenance and agreed to pay $250. They said they might change parts costing up to $70. They emphasized $70 is the maximum amount. I said okay. They sent me a bill of $331 on the next day. I said nothing, it was just $11 more. When I went to pick up my bikes the bill was $349, which was $29 more than the maximum amount that they promised. They did not increase the bill by $29 at once. They are well aware that the customers do not say anything when the bill is just $10 more. They add $10-15 each time. This is ripping off. There is more. They BROKE the two shifts of one of my bikes. When I said they were broken they said they were like that. Wheel & Sprocket: Please answer this question: why wouldn’t a bike store fix broken shifts when maintaining a bike? Given that you are trying to charge more and more, you would fix those shifts if you didn’t break them yourself. My wife and I are sure that the shifts were not broken at all. Now they are broken and even not working properly. So, the maintenance that Wheel & Sprocket offers is to break shifts and make them not work. They just want your MONEY. Do not WASTE your money. Instead, try to fix it on your own: this is easy if you know how to break the shifts.
Great bicycle shop in the neighborhood, small and large feel to the shop. Good folks working their and technicians are very good at creative solutions. Thank you, and I will now be bringing my 4 bicycles including an e-bike for service here.
Got my first bike there last week. The staff are very patient andknowledgeable. Had a great experience shopping there. Highly recommended!
Very happy with my experience here - got a new bike and some gear over the phone thanks to Tom. He and Anneka were great and the store got the bike to me from the warehouse and ready to go a week ahead of their estimate date. Will be back! Thanks!
This bike shop has very knowledgeable reps working there. They answered all my questions and were patient with me since I havent owned a bike in over 20 years. I did purchase a bike from them and Id be happy to recommend my friends to go here.
I dropped off my bike for the annual service. They said it would take 2 weeks, but they completed the work within a week! And the technician, Chris, wrote me a detailed email indicating everything they did! It was a thorough email, which I sincerely appreciated and reinforced why Wheels and Sprocket is the only place I trust with my family’s biking needs!
You are truly the best bike shop I have ever been to. Very professional, warm, friendly but spot on for knowledge and love for all things bike. I have recommended you to many friends and family. You are a one stop shop for all things bike and I trust in your expertise and knowledge.
Speedy and professional service on boxed bike setup, free estimate that told me I didnt need service on my partners old bike. Your staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they do a great job!
I went in there today (first time) and everyone was very polite! Super clean shop and plenty of items to select from. I went in to get a seat post lever to hold my seat in place once i adjust the height and the gentleman found me a perfect fit. Someone had also donated the item to the shop so i was able to get it discounted.
Your staff was very knowledgeable and accessible. Great teachers! Went out of their way to help.
Great service, great products, informative and attentive. We LOVE our new Yuba cargo bike!
Everyone heres very friendly, and know exactly how to help you out! I had a broken chain and a broken tooth in my rear sprocket, but Wheel & Sprocket knew exactly what parts I would need even at 7 p.m. one night. (when they close) Im almost certain theres nothing they cant help you with, and I know I have a place I can trust with all my bicycle needs!
Knowledgeable staff and great selection. They go the extra mile!
Great customer service and super happy with the product and experience!
UPDATE 2 - back down to 2 stars because when I finally got a knowledgeable repair tech at another store to deal with the back tire, he discovered that Wheel and Sprocket technicians had stuffed a 10-inch tube into an eight and a half inch tire and this was their idea of a repair for which they charged actual money! So yeah, the gist of my review remains. Their customer service is excellent, and from everything Ive heard they do great work on bikes. Just dont let them touch your e-scooter.UPDATE - the store reached out to me within 2 business days and admitted that they were not used to working on e-scooters, and that based on my experience as well as a few others they are reconsidering whether to service e-scooters at all. They have offered me a full refund and a gift card to compensate me for lost time and inconvenience. I am therefore revising my review up from 1-start to 3.-------------------------------If you dont want to work on e-scooters, just say so.....I brought my month-old e-scooter in for a flat back tire. I chose this location because they displayed e-scooters in the window for sale so I assumed that they had experience servicing them. They said they had to order the inner tube, which took a week, and then hey called and said that they had pinched the tube putting it on and would have to order another inner tube (but would not charge me for that tube). So I waited another week, called and was told that it would be ready around 5PM. I was very disappointed and I suspect they could tell in my voice as they later called me back to tell me it would be ready mid-afternoon. When I picked it up, they charged me $10 more for labor than I was quoted. The guy in service admitted that he had quoted a bike tire charge rather than a scooter tire, which should be higher because of the fiddly work involved in the smaller tire. I was already irritated enough that I had waited an extra week so he did give me the quoted price. However, I got less than half a mile from the store when I could feel the back tire getting soft again. At this point Im out the money for the repair, 2 weeks of use, and I still cant ride it!So Im going to cut my losses and find someplace that will tell me honestly if they cant handle a particular repair.
The nicest people. And they do a fantastic job.
Friendly staff and professional service. There was also excellent communication.
Exceptionally good service experience, for obtaining a very obscure, outdated small part. Knowledgeable, professional, and courteous staff. The best of what LBS means to cyclists.
Outstanding service with helpful information and a smile. Kudos to Rae for her help and that of the whole team. Will definitely return here and highly recommend.
Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff. Fast, efficient, quality service. Highly recommend!
Great experience with manager Gretchen. Will definitely be giving them my business!
Took my BikTrix ebike in for work. Great service, clear and timely communication, knowledgeable mechanics. Thanks guys!
Awesome service experience on my new Trek Verve. Eric Kryzstofiak at the Evanston location was able to quickly assess my concerns and pin point the issues. In addition they were able to fix the issue while I waited. After all was fixed, he did a few other adjustments for me and I was soon rolling away! Great job Eric and team!
The staff at Wheel and Sprocket Evanston is a diverse mix of bicycling enthusiasts who take the time to work with each person individually to make sure that they are comfortable and excited to hit the road. They have seen me through finding options to keep biking even after my son was born. Being able to bike with my toddler sitting between my arms and sharing in the joy of being out in the neighborhood and in nature is still one of the highlights of raising my son. Thank you for the care and attention you give to our community!
I had an amazing experience at this location. The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable.
The products, people, and service at Wheel & Sprocket are always top-notch. I feel welcome every time I walk in the door and I know that Ill walk out with a safer, more reliable biking experience.
I purchased a new bike at Wheel & Sprocket; I am far from a bike expert and was nervous about feeling overwhelmed in the store. Larry helped me figure out exactly what Id need and choose the best option and accessories within my budget. Tom also helped me further customize the bike when I came to pick it up. Everyone I interacted with was helpful, patient, and friendly. Fantastic experience and I love my new bike!
Any and every time I have ever come into the Wheel & Sprocket of Evanston, IL, I have always been both impressed and delighted with their superior level of professionalism, quality of work and customer service. My favorite bike shop in all of Chicagoland!
Always helpful, friendly, and timely service.
Probably the best bike shop in the area. Friendly staff will be coming back.
Chris was super friendly, a great employee. My need wasnt major, just some end bars for my handlebar, but he made the transaction super easy . . .
Mechanic fixed my bb. Didn’t go an inch more on customer service. They are not the worst place to go. ;)
Thanks to Jasper for helping me find a new helmet!! Much appreciated!
Very responsible covid restrictions. Out going staff. I felt welcomed. Keep it up!
Great help and handholding during my search for a new ebike. Many extras provided and thoughtful and very helpful advice along the way from many of the people who work there.
I had a FANTASTIC experience at W&S. The service department went waayyyy above and beyond. Brett Dightman took the time to research solutions to my silly requests and was mindful of both cost and aesthetic. Im extremely pleased with the results.
I ride for pleasure, mild exercise, and running errands in good weather when relatively safe from covid. My 7-speed Trek with baskets, curve-back handlebars, and an old-man seat is great. Store staff, used to college-town athletes and serious cyclists, never made me feel odd. First several years, I lived where I could bike to the store and go home & back on foot or bus, for annual service. We moved across town and got preoccupied, so I missed a few years of pro care. DIY chain lube, tire pumping, and brake adjustments. Getting old, I tended toward lower gears. Chain off-sprocket this year. I got it back on but could not trust it. Hauled it in by car for pro service. Worth the effort and every penny of the $125. I am back up one and sometimes two gears. Yay!
Wonderful customer service!!! Was able to purchase my dream bike. They were able to order it for me and was put together with an expert hand. Had one issue and Larry went out of his way to assist me. I have already sent two friends over to buy bikes. I highly recommend this shop and the expert knowledgeable staff.
They go above and beyond with tips, air fills, seat adjustment and are a great bike home!
Excellent service by a knowledgeable staff. Thanks Tom!
A neighbor of ours had Wheel & Sprockets mobile unit (I believe his name was Brett) come to their house to repair one of their bikes. I had been having issues with my bike tires needing to be refilled every week or two, and was wondering if I should get them replaced, so I popped over and asked for Bretts opinion on what I should do about the tires. He looked it over and said it wasnt uncommon to have to refill the type of tires I had every couple of weeks, and that the tread was decent and could probably last another season. He could have easily said they should be replaced and made a quick sale, but he gave me an honest opinion, and for that, I am grateful and will certainly be using their services when the time comes.
Excellent work delivered ahead of schedule for a decent price.
I am very happy with my bike that I purchased as well as all the accessories/alterations. More so than anything, I was grateful for the service I was provided. Gretchen was wonderful to work with. She gave my spouse and I ample time, despite the store being busy. She answered our questions and was very communicative while we were waiting for our bikes to be completed. Despite the distance from where we live, we will continue to patron Wheel & Sprocket for our bicycle needs.
This is the most organized and friendly bike shop I’ve been to. Plus they are very aware of social distancing and masks to make you feel comfortable inside.Fast, professional, and very fair prices.A great business for Evanston cyclists, I’ll be back
I recommend shopping here, and I will be returning as a loyal customer. As a inexperienced bike owner, I found the Wheel & Sprocket shopping experience to be welcoming, informative, and convenient. All the sales associates seemed friendly and professional, but I would highly recommend working with Shan. He was patient while answering my general questions and knowledgeable when comparing different models. He made helpful recommendations based on what he prefers when he rides but was not pushy about a sale. He was also very competent in looking up future shipments to help me reserve the bike I wanted next time it was available.
I have been looking to upgrade my hybrid to a roadie. After extensive research, I placed an order online, but there was a glitch in the system and it wasn’t actually available. Unbeknownst to me, there are a lot of new cyclists now and bikes are scarce. Amelia helped me find another bike that was available in my size and price range, and had it sent to the Evanston store for me to pick up. I am eternally grateful to have found this bike in my size and brand I prefer. Pickup was a breeze and the staff were so helpful and put my cages on.
Bought a electric bike there and service is great
As soon as you walk in you know they are serious about Covid virus. STOP! came from a clerk as I entered the store. Please use the hand sanitizer and wait for a sales person to help you with your visit. This was perfect as I was shopping for a new bike for my grandson. They where excellent in their selection and the quality of the bike. Done deal. True professionals at their occupation.
A great bike shop with a smart and meticulous repair crew. I do most of the basic work on my bikes, but for everything above my skill set, theyre one of the very few places around Chicago I trust to do a good job for a fair price.
Great atmosphere, friendly team, excellent work, good prices!
The staff knowledge, service, and effort to provide a good customer experience was phenomenal. I went to purchase one bike and was so impressed I purchased two. Special shout out to the store manager, Eric Krzystofiak. You and your team ROCK!
The Employees Are Really Great & Great Customer Service’s
Wheels and sprocket is a great bike shop. They handled my warranty claim and dealt with manufacturer to fix my folding bike. I will be certainly recommending this bike shop to friends and family!
Friendly, responsive, knowledgeable solutions to my bicycling needs
I had a great experience buying the simple maintenance items that I needed. The staff were friendly and helpful in helping me find what I needed. They also had free water bottles for those waiting outside in the heat due to COVID. I just wish they opened a little bit earlier on Saturdays.
Great store, nice employees.
Of course they have great products and variety. but the MOST impressive is their staff!!!!! i have come in many times since i bought a new bike in july. EVERYONE I deal with at Wheel & Sprocket, whether sales or service staff, were fabulous! i came almost every week with different issues (water bottle stand, night light blocked by handlebar bag, proper winter attire etc). everyone was always pleasant, helpful and extremely knowledgeable.
Have been going here for bike repairs for 5 years and love this group of professionals. Theyre knowledgeable, have reasonable repair prices, and are kind. They think of how to solve a problem and make recommendations that work for your problem, regardless of whether it makes them more money or not. Highly recommend.
Good service and friendly environment
Very expensive and they took twice as long as predicted.i was not compensated for how much longer it took and when I picked up my bike it wasnt even finished yet so I had to stand and wait for them to do something else. Do research. Someone else is going to be better for you, your bike, and your wallet.
Wheel & Sprocket made it easy and quick to get my bike seat and post replaced after both were stolen. When I decided it was the wrong seat for me, the return couldnt have been simpler. Theyre the place to go for repairs. Kind, efficient and competent.
I had a great experience with Wheel & Sprocket in Evanston when I pre-ordered my Trek Marlin 5 bike. The timeline they gave me was pretty accurate, even with the pandemic delays. Their communication was top notch. When I emailed them to get a status update on my bike, they emailed me back within a few hours that same day. I got a text message notification that my bike was ready and I called in to make sure it was in, since I was about 30 min away from the bike shop. Eric did an outstanding job on the phone. He was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. Overall, great experience! I would recognize this bike shop to my friends and family.
Kind and patient service. Reasonable price on repair. Thank you so much!
Great service. They made terrific bike recommendations for my whole family and coordinated well with their sister locations to safely deliver everything I needed. They were organized, thoughtful, and very responsive. I would definitely go back to them again.
The team at W&S is always helpful and pleasant. Great selection, and if they don’t have exactly what you need they can order it from another location and have it within days. The manager Eric is a local Evanston father and you can tell he cares about the community as much as he cares about bikes and his team.
Had some work done on the bike last year, but never really got a chance to ride it before winter. Turns out I needed some adjustments this spring and they were happy to take care of it for me! Thanks much to the team and I really appreciate you being open during this time.
Great service and very nice people!
So my husband and I were riding our bikes in the bike lane around 2:30pm Wednesday on Davis St. Approaching wheel and sprocket, We saw an employee wiping the door handle as customers were waiting near the bike lane to get in (happy to see this). As we passed the people to our left of the lane and the employee on the right; he yells at us for being so close to his customers. My problem is that we are on bikes with cars driving west on Davis. There is a bike lane for a reason. Were we supposed to quickly ride in the street to suddenly get hit? Perhaps it would have been safer for him to advise his people to wait in the car since there could be bike and car traffic at the same time? What are they doing open anyway? Every time I shop at the store there is something I always need to touch. Maybe they are handing out gloves to everyone who walks into the store? Unfortunately, I did not see gloves on the employee. Makes me wonder.......
Wheel & Sprocket provided unbelievable assistance as I got my old Rockhopper road-ready. Everyone was knowledgeable...Danny helped me with the puzzling bottom bracket size, Gretchen helped me convert to V-brakes, and Richard guided me through the entire rebuild process. Amazingly quick availability of parts that they helped me select as far as fit and purpose. Even though they are several miles farther away than my local bike shop (who also has been of great help), Im convinced its worth the trip. Great inventory. Amazing knowledge. Curbside service. Thank you!
Friendly and knowledgable staff. Quick service.
Cant find a better local place for bike products, service, and gear. The customer service here is exceptional. The staff is knowledgeable, courteous, and thorough. They carry a variety of styles and accessories for every type of rider, and offer recommendations and tips. Repairs are done quickly and efficiently. The store is also supportive of many community events and initiatives.
These guys are great. Fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They are working double time during a pandemic and hustling to get everyone taken care of.
I was happy that Wheel & Sprocket was able to repair and improve my 30 plus year old ten speed after my bike accident left the front wheel bent, and its been a while since I had a professional tune up. I feel safer getting back on that bike after a bad fall. And instead of trying to upsell me they reassured me that I have a classic, well-built road bike that will serve me into the future. I honestly think that if I had gotten a tune up including cleaning, lubricating the front axel quick release and replacing the brake pads I probably would have stayed out of the emergency room this October. My bike repair bill was about $176 while the ER bill was $2550 after insurance. Richard ODwyer, Evanston, Illinois
I have had nothing but problems with the brand new $1300 Giant Escape I purchased at this store. My bike has been back there twice in under a month for tires losing pressure. All they ever do is inflate them with some kind of leak repair and send me on my way. Meanwhile, I have to reinflate both tires every two days. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere from now on, they clearly don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to repairs.
Great local bike shop. Attentive service, top notch products, great shop all around.
Charlie was so helpful and kind! The place was also super safe with COVID protocols which I really appreciated.
Wheel and Sprocket did a great job and found a seat clamp I needed. I couldnt find it anywhere due to Covid 19.. It arrived to the shop a day before they said it would, in time for a bike trip with my 11 year old son! Thanks Wheel and Sprocket!!
Easy to bring our daughters bike and get the pedals removed so she could learn balancing. Fast and friendly.
The folks at wheel and sprocket were really helpful as I brought my bike in because the rear wheel was stolen :( They explained exactly what I needed and suggested a better preventative measure than just more bike locks. They serviced my bike quickly and I was notified immediately to pick up.
Beautiful store and I got quick and efficient service from Chris. It was last-minute and was very happy to be able to get my bike in good shape. He also aligned my wheels and all is good!
Bought a Tern e-assist cargo bike at this shop. I live 3 hours away and the staff were very helpful and communicated well. The shop is airy, spacious, and attractive. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I love my new bike!
My experience with Wheel & Sprocket was mostly perfect. My first visit was interesting, a Sunday during the pandemic so it had a social distancing line down the street. They were organized, friendly, but little inventory in stock relative to what I needed. They directed me to the website where I found both bikes I needed. I placed the order online, and the bikes arrived at the Evanston store a week ahead of schedule! I went to the store that day to grab the bikes, and the only part I wish I would have known ahead of time was the service options/add-one that may extend your pick-up visit. Other than that, I was so impressed with Gretchen Brauers service. She was so helpful and smart and the most delightful person. I would redirect anyone looking for a bike or service to her and the team at this store. This is the first time Ive had a bike in over 10 years and it was the perfect entry back into it. Thank you, Gretchen and team (give her a raise!!)
Bike service done professionally. I felt that I was in good hands. They provided good suggestions for service items. Very happy and bike rides great!
A little pricey but well worth it. Brought my bike here to get it cleaned, aligned and add a couple extra stuff to it. They did an amazing job and had it ready for me in time. Its a little hassle if you drive here though because technically not allowed to park in the back and street parking can be a little full at times. However, great location if you live in downtown Evanston. They also have a great selection of bikes if youre on the market to buy one
Great Great shop and this is where Ill get my next bike. The service is unmatched.
Smart caring bike shop doing their best to keep you riding during these crazy times.
Tom was great. He fitted me (silver) for my bike and explained things as we went through the process. He was also patient and gave knowledgeable advice. Great experience overall.-Ari
They had the bontrager kickstand that had been sold out and on backorder all year. Called and they put it on hold for me. I drove a half hour. Got it. Great service.
2020 update: went again this year for great service. They are doing a really good job dealing w social distancing. This year because of limited funds (thanks Rona) I couldnt afford a full tune-up w tubes, so Gretchen helped me get everything I need to fix at home. Hopefully I wont mess it up too bad, and if I do I know where to go.I love this place! I so appreciate the tire air that they provide for free to the community. This morning when I filled my tires, I noticed that my tire valve was missing a cap. Gretchen helped me and gave me the cap for free! While she was helping me, Gretchen noticed that my wheel needed a quick tune-up and she took care of it. Then she helped me pick out a kicky new helmet. I will be bringing my bike back for a general tune-up :)
All of the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their bikes. Store has a cool vibe and is located close to Northwestern University. Will be purchasing from them again in the future.
Affordable, professional, and quick. I always come here because they don’t try to upsell me all of the time - they fix what I ask, and talk to me if they see a major problem. They’re location is clean, and they’re easy to work with. Other bike shops just tell me to get a new bike, but as old as it is, I want MY bike fixed. Wheel and Sprocket always gets the job done, and I’ll keep coming back.
