The general manager here is awesome! I was trying to get a truck through the 24 hour truck share (not recommended) and the other place did not have the keys accessible. I was pretty upset when I got to this place. The general manager hooked me up with the right number to cancel the first reservation and got me going with a truck within minutes. Kudos to this guy for making it right and giving great customer service.
This place is poorly ran Theres a bunch of homeless people in-and-out of where the storage units are I have a small unit on top and was broken in 2 multiple times ims management didnt have been about it even though I have insurance for the 2nd and 3rd time my unit was broken into Its a dump I would not recommend Leaving your Expensive or priceless items here
Just moved in here a few days ago and there is kind of a lot of stuff going on around here....first, many homeless people are loitering in front of the buildings. This can be especially scary at night. I noticed many people hang out in their storage units during the daytime as well. I also saw a man who must have a unit here (since he seemed to have a card to get in) with his dog, basically showing in the bathroom. All of that aside, the most annoying thing to Me is the fact that they have no carts to bring in all of your stuff!!! They were all stolen. I mean, then get more. Youre uhaul and youre a storage. I mentioned that to them but no one seemed particularly concerned.
Don’t rent here! What meant to be a temporary couple months until I found another place turned into almost a year of having this unit. I pay every month but usually a week late due to not having stable income. In the past 9 months alone I’ve been sent 52 notices harassing me to pay them(phone calls,emails and letters to my previous address), even after I’ve paid. The lockers are also not fully inclosed so theft of your items is highly possible since the tops of the units is only chicken wire and most of it is open from people peeling it back from previous thefts. I wish I would’ve paid $20 more a month and got a real storage and better service. I won’t ever do business with UHaul again! Stay away and beware!
Used a 20’ and it saved my move. They included blankets and Dolly for a minimal cost. This will be my last move without hired movers haha

Bad service, the woman who helped us was rude and no one acknowledged us when we came in. There was one nice guy who let me use the bathroom while we waited.
My fiancé and I moved across country this past December from El Cajon, California to Jacksonville, Florida and needed to find a way to get our belongings out there. We called and received several quotes from various moving companies and found U-Haul to be the cheapest and quickest company able to get us our stuff to Florida. After weighing all of the options, we decided to go with one of there U-Box shipping containers. The closest location to our house was the U-Haul in El Cajon. To rent and load your stuff into a U-Box, you have a few options- you can have them bring it to your house for an extra fee to load it, you can bring all of your stuff and pack it into the U-Box at their location or you can pick it up yourself with your own vehicle. We decided to have my father come with his truck to pick it up so we could load it ourselves. We spoke with the general manager on 11/25/20 (who seemed to be under the influence of meth/cocaine) about what we needed to do to pick this box up, and he said all we needed to do was show up and get it. We made plans with my father to take the morning off work that Friday to help us pick it up in his truck. On 11/27/20, we showed up to pick up the U-Box and the same manager was working. He said oh you cant pick it up, you need a 24 hour in advance reservation to get it. What?!?! We were like, do you remember us? We were just here a day ago and you told us to just come get it. He told us sorry, you still have to make a reservation (even though the U-Box was sitting RIGHT OUTSIDE the office and NO ONE was going to be using it!!! We then had to ask my father to again take time off from his schedule to come back the following day on 11/28/20 to pick up the U-Box. The manager said to be there when they open at 8:30 so we could get first in line, and when we showed up they dont even open until 9!!!! So we finally get the U-Box loaded up to take home and the manager tells us to drop it back off by Monday 11/30/20 so we can guaranteed have our items shipped to us in Florida by 12/17/20. We take it home and load it, and bring it back only to find out we cant even drop it off!!! We need to bring it at a specific time because they dont have forklift operators during the entire day!!! So we bring it back at the specified time and finally get this thing shipped. Then it is a complete disaster once it gets to Florida- they ship it to the wrong location and actually lose/cant find our U-Box!!!! So we dont end up being able to locate and get into it until 12/23/20, at which point U-Haul is threatening to charge me another $90 worth of storage for keeping the box longer than a month if we dont get our stuff out of it by 12/28/20. Keep in mind, I am almost 8 months pregnant by this time and have to deal with all of this while my fiancé is at work for the Navy!!!! Then, to top it all off, they tell me I cant just come get my things out of the U-Box, that I need a 24 hour reservation to pick it up and on top of that, they DOUBLE CHARGE MY DEBIT CARD taking thousands of dollars out of my account.......! Please, please, please- take our advice- spend the extra money going with another moving company and dont get taken advantage of by U-Haul- we certainly will NEVER use them again!!!!

Waited in line while CSR fixed her nails for a good 5 minutes until supervisor told her to start working. She wanted a full tank returned on a half-full truck because she was too lazy to get up and inspect the vehicle. Had to flag down a random employee to verify her contract was wrong.Would not return, was too much work that someone else was getting paid for.
Came here to get boxes, tape, and essentials. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Got the boxes to my truck for me without asking! Great prices on boxes. You can buy individually or in a 10 pack. I got all the boxes I needed, tape gun, shrink wrap all for 70$. I got at least 30 XL boxes. Made moving 10x easier and safer. I used to use Trash bags to move. I will be using boxes from now on. Thanks guys!
I had a hitch installed here a few years ago and have towed quiet often, from cars to cargo trailers. The other day some one hit me and the hitch saved my bumper, and his car was totaled. 30 mile an hour accident. Quality product.
I have used this location throughout the last 12 years, and I have always gotten exceptional customer service. I’ll be continuing to use their services as long as I’m in the area. All the people are usually friendly and willing to help. Never have had a bad experience whatsoever. I rented trucks and car dollies and never had an issue.
These guys are great. Always busy, always helpful and courteous. Rick and David are awesome. They go out of their way for us everytime.
Ordered 25 LARGE moving boxes which were bundled in 2 stacks, 1 stack was 15 and the other was 10. When my husband arrived to pick up the boxes, the bundles were ready however when he approached the counter the representative said Theres your bundles and left my husband to load them by himself. POOR customer service, the proper thing would have been to at least offer to help carry them to the car. Next time I will get boxes from HOME DEPOT, the boxes are just as good, and less expensive.
Went in for a hitch for my wifes car, order one paid with her credit card went to get it install the following week and they had no record of my transaction. If I had not had the original receipt they would have not even believe I had been there. They said it wasnt paid for so I had to leave after driving 60 miles round trip. David which I believe to be the store manager called and ask me if I was still interested in the hitch I said yes and we set up another time to have it installed. I informed him of the previous situation and said my wife is paying for this with her credit card. He informed us that the price was fifty dollars higher than our printed bid with the install date on it. We informed him of this and he said bring the receipt down, to which I did. After arriving David started degrading the fellow worker by talking down to him in front of a customer. He then would not honor our previous receipt and wanted the extra fifty for the hitch install. His demeanor was upset and frustrated already which really was not very professional this was all after another 60 mile return trip. Haven been a supervisor myself I know the importance of running a shop properly we all have bad days but try and an be professional
We rented a 15 foot truck and then later had to add a Cargo trailer. Their system wasn’t allowing cargo trailers outside of California unless processed through corporate. Victoria navigated this quick and easy for us and made it all happen.Everyone at the lot was extremely professional and we appreciated the customer service.It could’ve been a stressful situation but everything worked out for the best. Much appreciated.
I had a terrible experience at this UHaul location. Staff were extremely rude from beginning to end. I even overheard one employee curse at a customer as I was waiting in line. There is no customer parking - which wouldve been great to know before I showed up. I had to move my car 3 or 4 times to comply with the angry employees requests, after which I waited in line for 20 minutes. I got my truck 40 minutes late because of all this and they took that time away from my rental. I will not be doing business with UHaul in the future.
I ordered 12 moving boxes from this location. They (I think Nathan and Zach?) made it very easy for me to pick up and drop off. Both times helped me load them in and out of my car.
Ordered a hitch installation. Waited in line for 25 minutes for our reserved time, only to be told that they didnt have the hitch in store. Manager apologized and told us hed call us back when they received it. Got the call a few hours later, where he confirmed that the hitch had arrived, and we rescheduled for the day after. Came in the next day, dropped the car off, and about half an hour later got a call from a mechanic saying they didnt have the hitch in store after all. Again, the manager apologizes, gives us our money back (in cash...) and promises that if we want to come back some other time to have the installation done, he would cover the cost of labor to make up for our troubles. So, a week later we call in to schedule a new appointment and ask about the offer the manager made. Now he walks back on it and says he can offer half off the cost, at most.Tl;Dr this company is completely unorganized and its manager lies to your face. Untrustworthy.
We booked 3 weeks in advance to get a hitch put in our suv, the whole experience has been an absolute mess. We ended up leaving our Volvo at overnight bc they couldn’t figure out how do it. We just went to pick it up but it still wasn’t done and the kid (who is the uhaul “engineer”) said he didn’t know how to do it. He ended up leaving before we got there and no one would help us.We ended up driving our Volvo off the ramp bc the representative at the desk would not help us. If something happened it could have been a major law suit for uhaul. Employees here are awful. Service is awful. We paid in full online before hand and I don’t not recommend going here. Fire everyone that was working on 2/5 & 2/6!
Do not rent a storage at the El Cajon u haul. Very poor security!!!! I had someone break into my storage from the top. They cut the wire open and stole about $1000 worth. The people didnt care! They did not offer me a different storage or tell me when they were going to fix mine. The front doors are always left open and there are way to many homeless people inside. They told me there are no cameras on the top units. The manager had a very bad attitude and could have cared less. She told I should not have kept the items in there because they are for yard things like BBQ and rakes.

I dropped of my veichle last night at this location to get a tow hitch installed my appointment was for 7:00am today 12/1/18 and I showed up at 9:00 am to pick up my car to find out that my car hadnt even been work on at all! I expressed my urgency since last night and today and the manager at this location on elcajon and main st. Today as my fiance expressed her sense of urgency the manger started to laugh at her and say you are not priority I have more customers inside! U do not say this to customers my car was there over night. And he would give us an extract time of when he would get to it, as the conversation progresses he say o would get to your car faster if I didnt have to sit here and argue with you! What type of expectations does U-Hall have for manager this is unbelievable and should be looked in it and removed from his position!

We were left without a truck and no help. Would never recommend this place. We were supposed to do self service and as we are pulling up it says there in no truck available and to call Tammy at a 24 hour number and of course no answer. Thankfully Santee Market Liquor off Woodsid was able to accommodate us!

Couldnt believe how poor the customer service was. Left my car overnight for a hitch install and wa!s promised work would commence at 7 am next morning. Arrived at9 am, after receiving no calls on progress. No work had been done to my !veh!icle and it had just been taken into, the shop. The disgruntled hitch technician had informed me he had been stuck at the front counter to help with the long line of customers. The hitch tech now went outside with me to address the matter and Mr. Fonseca then yelled out the customer has to wait and looked at me and smiled a snarky condescending smile. He laughed at me and said I was not priority and his store was doing me a favor. And that if he didnt have to waist (his) time talking to me it would be taken care of sooner. He proceded to say we can wait for my vehicle or take it somewhere else. I started he was being very unprofessional and u are never to tell your paying customer they are not your priority and I wanted my car back. I will no longer do any business with UHaul because of Houston Fonseca. This is not manager material and UHaul should not allow his employment to dafame there reputation.

Worst customer experience ever I had made a reservation for a truck to use all day and told the lady I would pick it by 12 and she said Ill have it ready for you at 9 am. I said thats fine. I got In and the girl says your reservation has been cancelled for showing up 20 min late. I had giving my CC to have it on hold for me. She was rude and didnt care that I paid people to help me move beside me losing $200 for help I had no truck and now I have to go runnING around looking for a rental on the 1st of the month. I will never use uhal agian. A lot of companies say that care about customer experience but actions are louder then words. worst customer experience ever and its not about not just getting a truck its the lady behind the counter that was just to careless.

Total disappointment. I received my box in Michigan with lot of damages to my belongings including 2 broken TVs. I have sent pictures to the insurance claim company Repwest and details but I was not compensated. I was not well informed about the insurance coverage in the store when I purchased the service and even though the delivered ubox was bent and my stuff damaged, no compensation was given. I ended with damaged furniture, no TV and I will leave my feedback on google to alert other customers to not be in my situation.

Made reservations 2 days in advance and when we got there, no box truck like we ordered and they told us, the people renting havent came back yet. 2 days advance reservation and only one box truck for the whole lot.
