I started a new job and was given two (men’s) uniforms that needed hemmed (for a woman) in three days. Which is definitely not enough time at all. So I called and inquired about the lack of time I had, and their availability, to which this nice woman said she would see what she could do for me. When I got them back they were done beautifully and professionally. The hem on the pants is clean. To my happy surprise the extra button on the shirt was professionally sewn to the inside of the shirt, as pictured. I could not be any happier with the services here. They do wedding dresses, men’s uniforms and much more! Would highly recommend to anyone!

WARNING! Brides! Do not go here! Even if this is the only place that says they can get it done for you in all of Duluth, it is worth the drive to go to the cities!I bought a beautiful lace Maggie Sottero gown from the Wedding Shoppe in St Paul and brought my gown here to have the straps shortened, hem shortened, fix some button loops, and add a bustle. I came in for my second alterations appointment and I was horrified to see she had cut my dress in half at the waistline and removed fabric there instead of shortening the hem. This created a line across my waist with mismatched and bunched up lace and completely changed the look and fit of my dress. She did this with out telling me or asking my approval first. When I told her to stop doing any further alterations and told her I had to go buy a new wedding dress now (2 weeks before my wedding), instead of apologizing or seeming remorseful in the slightest, she said “Well you still have to pay”.She simultaneously was altering dresses for my daughters that needed the waists let out and hems shortened. She did nothing with the waist on either dress and hacked the hems so they are inches too short now and still don’t fit my daughters properly.I went to pick up my daughters dresses (told her to keep the wedding dress) and after all that my bill was a whopping $450. Plus the cost of a new wedding dress, stress, and frustration. Still can’t believe this! Then she had to throw in some rude comments about how this was my second marriage to top it off.Save yourself some heartache and go elsewhere! I’ve heard horror stories from bridal shops in Duluth after I’ve shared my story with them, sounds like many others have had similar experiences.

Do not recommend. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be hemmed and have bra cups added. When I came back to pick it up (5 days before I fly out for the wedding) the cups were put in so poorly that they were pointing in opposite directions, and just not at all in the correct place. There was also a stain on the bodice of the brand new dress that wasnt there when I brought it in. I was told she could correct the cups and I could pick it up today (36 hours until I fly out). When I went in today, the cups had been moved, but were still SO wrong. The seamstress was not present and when the I told the man who rang me up that these things were still wrong, but I was out of time, he didnt even offer so much as an apology. So I paid full price, with every intention of just removing the cups myself and having to figure out a bra situation. I went to the dry cleaner/tailor one block away to ask if they had any tips on the stain I had acquired, and their seamstress thankfully offered to correct the poorly done alterations with a 24-hr turn around so I can still have my dress on time. Moral of the story, dont trust this place for important garments or deadlines.

Very flexible, excellent price and very friendly. We literally decided to plan our wedding within a 1-month timespan. West Duluth Sewing and Design did an awesome job on all the dress alterations!I would also like to respond to some of the other reviews based off my experience. Before leaving request a copy of your quote. I too was charged more for the alterations made on my wedding dress then what I was quoted. However, it was still a lot less than what I was originally quoted at a local bridal shop and my dress turned out beautifully. I personally didnt mind paying the extra in the end. Her prices are way below other local prices and the work is excellent. Also, if you are looking to save money this is the place to go. If you are looking for perfection, pay the higher prices and go somewhere else. I had to order my bridesmaids dresses off of eBay to get the colors and sizes we needed for our wedding because of the time frame we were working with. Both dresses needed a lot of alterations and we discussed two different designs to help make the dresses appropriate for the age of the girls who would be wearing them. I feel that the design I settled on didnt help much on making the dress appropriate and in a perfect world I would have been disappointed. However, I dont live in a perfect world and the final work on the alterations was impeccable. The added shawls that we had buttons added to offered the additional coverage the girls needed. I was extremely happy with how everything turned out and I look forward to working with West Duluth Sewing and Design again for any future projects.I will post wedding photos once I get them back from the photographer.

I had, what I would have rated, a heavy duty, unusual request. They had it ready the very next day! I was so impressed I took them a 2nd one. Great job! That review is 4 years old.Boy has this place gone down hill since! I brought in a pair of pants that needed hemmed, after 2 weeks I stopped by, they werent done, after 2 more weeks I called, still not done. Over 2 MONTHS later I got concerned and stopped by to pick them up, no matter if they were done or not!Since THEY couldnt find them right away THEY accused me of not dropping them off. Of course after 3 MONTHS, they didnt remember me dropping them off! THEY FINALLY found my pants with the order tag attached in the back of the shop on the FLOOR under a pile of other peoples clothes!

Weve had 2 Lettermans jackets, 3 Prom dresses and a Bridesmaid dress done by Jeanneth in the past 5 years. She recreated a wedding dress for my friend that was unbelievable! We recommend West Duluth Sewing to everyone.

I am a little frustrated with the work they did for me. I had a band t-shirt that i wanted to make into a tank top. I brought in a tank that i wanted them to use as a guide / model for the shape i wanted it to be. I saw them mark it and there was no problem with the task.It took a whole week and $32.00 for the job. First off, that is way too much for a simple job like that. Both timewise and moneywise. But, I was willing to pay because i loved the shirt. After a whole week i was excited to get my new tank but after I picked it up and took it home I was horrified. They didnt make a womans tank of it. It was a muscle shirt. The arm holes go half way down. Way past the bra line. It looks nothing like the tank style i brought in. Its ruined. It is just a huge disaster now. 😢

When I called the quote I received for hemming a formal dress was 36$, after I went into the store it was up to 48$ due to it being 3 layers. When I picked up my dress my total was 68$. I have not had a whole lot of items altered but I do think your quotes should at least be ball park...

My fiance took her wedding dress in to be altered and they ruined it. Upon talking with other tailors they all agreed the dress was beyond repair. We would not recommend this business to anyone.

Poor customer service. They dont stand by their work. After just 2 washings, the hem they did on my husbands pants unraveled. They charged me to re-do it, saying this should stay. I told them it should have stayed the first time. Very disappointed. Going elsewhere.

They ruined my $2000 dress. There where Holes in it, Stains on it, Lace was peeling off the bottom after being hemmed, They hemmed it un evenly, The Satin layer underneath wasnt hemmed at all, The back panal was sewed on crooked, It needed a 12 point bussle... They only put 3 in. Left side was hemmed 2 inches of the floor, right side was 5 inches dragging. My dress was lace on the bottom so it Wasnt a dress you could just easily fix the hemming without ruining it more. I wasnt even able to wear heels on my wedding day. I had to pay another place to fix all the damages 4 days before my wedding and most of it wasnt even fixable. The ladies where horrified when I brought it in...they felt so bad they gave me a huge discount. To add to that headache- West duluth sewing tried to charge me $500 dollars for their services. I put a dispute on my credit card and refused to pay them. They have left messages threatening to call the police and now they think they are going to sue me $650. Your big day is not worth the risk. This isnt the first dress they ruined hence the other google reveiws.

Horrible place to go to. One of the bridal shops in Duluth referred my sister-in-law to this place and she had monthly appointments set up for each fitting. They hadnt even started by the first appointment and then a week before the wedding at the final appointment they werent done. Dont go here if you are looking for a trusted seamstress.
