Wow! This place was so awesome to come to after a long trip in the Detroit area! This was one of the few highlights of my trip but the one that stood out the most to me. Although I believe Founders is well known, their beer is truly underrated! I got a nitro sour which was the perfect drink for a warm summer day! Very refreshing and a perfect match for my brisket sandwich. A delicious brew and sandwich meal at an awesome atmosphere made the perfect combo for the best spot in Detroit! Thanks for making my trip! I will definitely be back next year!(: Cheers!
Amazing! Went for the suicide boys concert, met the best staff!! They let all of us use their restroom AND printed papers for people who needed them which was quite a few and even let us take their pens with us! Beautiful venue all the way around as well amazing, caring staff.
Beers are always good, food is good, services was great even with it being busy. Recommended sitting outdoors if its not cold.
I personally love the feel of this place. Very comfortable, casual, relaxed. Huge patio, lots of taps, attentive staff. Great midtown location. Probably not where you want to get a big meal, but the options they have are good.
I always love the atmosphere here. The staff always goes above and beyond! The food is always great. BUT lets talk about the beer, so many options and they have all been great! I always ask if the staff members are blending beers and I always walk away with a new combo!
Incredible service. Great beer. Love the atmosphere. Ordered the club sandwich (not even a member) and it came with exactly 1.5 slices of chicken. The bacon is not “thick cut” either. For 11.75, definitely not worth it. If I could give 3.5 I would b/c our service was so good.
We didnt have wait for anything! The place was crowded but our waiter Sam made us feel like we were his only table. We shared a delicious pretzel and enjoyed a few awesome beers.
Founders beer is always good. Wait staff need some training. Would like to have seen at least some wine options for those in our prayers who dont drink beer. Would like to see how the Founders Brewery does in Grand Rapids to compare.
Went to Founders in Detroit for the first time today. The check in experience could have been better, but great service, awesome drinks, and great food! Our server, Miles, was attentive, friendly and made sure we had a good time. We will definitely go back!
It is a beautiful bar with outdoor space with lit fires and heaters to keep you warm on the chilly nights. The staff was excellent, warm and inviting. A must go to when in Detroit!
The beer is good. The staff is nice. The bathrooms are clean. There is a lot of potential. There is however a big lack of front of house systems and sense of urgency. Whoever owns this place needs to hire a competent manager with real restaurant experience. I’ve been in the industry 10 years and love a good experience, almost never review. This place needs some help. Too many bodies and too few tables to not have attentive service.
First off, high curb appeal. Nice look to the building, definitely gives off a brewery vibe... Our server was on point, wasnt pushy but came over at the appropriate time to ask how we were doing, and was knowledgeable and helpful in every way! Now maybe Im biased, cuz I love me some All Day IPA, but their selection was great, our flights were on point, and the draft was fresh and tasty! Their beer cheese dip was outstanding! Cant give an educated review of any other food (yet!), but overall the experience was refreshingly beyond pleasant! We WILL be going back soon, and food will be on the docket! Cheers!
Great atmosphere, good sandwiches, friendly staff. The beers are hit-or-miss, but its fun to try new brews. The music was a bit loud, but not so bad with the outside seating option. Staff were quick to help us out when we wanted to find rare beers and an almost sold-out t-shirt design. A fun experience that always has us coming back.
The beer is phenomenal and the staff is very knowledgeable and willing to provide suggestions. You can also taste before ordering a full beer if youre just not too sure. The food was also incredible. I had a terrific evening and I will definitely be back!
Super nice people, was waiting in line for a concert at the masonic temple near here and the manager printed of papers for a lot of people in line, definitely recommend this place if you want a good place to eat/drink with great service and good hearted people
First time here since pandemic and what an experience. Took 15 min to order a beer while being seated inside. Then Moved to the patio as a table opened up. It wasn’t until 25 minutes later we asked the person cleaning tables for our waiter. A person then came over to take our order and come to find out 30 minutes later she never submitted the order. Like what kind of service is this? It wasn’t overtly busy either. Will not be coming back because service was horrible.Update: gave Founders Detroit another shot. Definitely a better experience as the waiter got our orders right. Food came out slow although not too busy (maybe needs more staff?) but overall much better experience than the first and management was interested in us having a better experience!
Beer was good, Ive seen better options on tap in the past but Ill come back again. I always enjoy the atmosphere. Cheesesteak and Mac and cheese werent good..I wouldnt get them again.
They have a huge beer list with something for everyone, and really good food. They have a private room for parties and good parking. I wish they had an ESB their menu, but other than that, I really liked it
Founders is my favorite brewery, I have centennials as my to go beer daily. Ive been several times in grand rapids just to go to the brewery, so once bars started opening back again I was excited to go as I had never been in Detroit. Bar and beer are really good, waiters excellent, however today, 6/11/20, the Thursday 1.50 discount on menu to class 1waa not applied and Ive been told that the waiter did not add the 1.50 discount to the bill (THIS IS A SYSTEMIC LOGIC). I live 2 miles from the brewery and will go back again on a Thursday. If this does not happen I will gladly remove this review
Stopped by Founders Brewing Co in Detroit on 06/04/21 for a beer with a few friends. We were greeted at the door and at our table within 2 minutes. Some time passed without the server for our area greeting us and that is when the manager Josh stepped in. He was very polite, patient, and professional. I heard his interactions with his co-workers and he is polite to everyone. He truly is an asset for the Detroit Founders location and we will be back. Thank you Josh for the wonderful experience!
Amazing atmosphere and very helpful staff. Appreciate everything you did for us concert-goers!!
Loved the 5 Oz beers. There was only 1 sour and 1 seltzer but both were good! Chips and salsa were not good but the southwest salad was! Loved the atmosphere and would return :]
Since each taproom is unique I decided to visit the Detroit location while in town. I loved the beers that were unique to the taproom and the atmosphere was great. Not having been to Detroit since I was a kid I didn’t know what to expect but the brewery fit right in with the neighborhood. The gift shop was well placed and impulse purchases were made tobe drank later!
Selection of beers was very good but service was a little slow and they seemed to have trouble remembering what we ordered. One server mixed up the beers and another just gave us the wrong order. Nice outdoor seating and fairly spacious. Overall Id recommend.
Wonderful experience! Friendly staff and fast seating and ordering time. Everything was very flavorful! Huge sandwiches (you probably only need the half order) and the vegan sloppy joe was mouthwatering.Always loved their beers, definitely coming back to enjoy their menu too!
We decided to stop by before heading over to the red wings game, there’s a parking lot nearby and it’s an easy walk to the arena. The bar is seat yourself so keep your eyes peeled for a table. It took awhile for someone to stop by our table but once they did they were fairly attentive. We ended up ordering food from the food service counter - the sandwich was quite good and reasonably priced. They had a good beer selection as well. Overall a pretty impressive downtown Detroit brewery!
Staff was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the food and beer while I was here. Even with a full bar they were quick and willing to answer any questions I had. Facility was spacious with plenty of seating. Food was better than most breweries that I have been to in the past. Will definitely be back if I’m in the area.
Fun place to stop and get a drink or food. Great drinks and the food is always top notch.
Stellar experience. Always liked the Founders brews, and this puts them right in the heart of Detroit. Fun space, although too cold for a patio day on 3/21/2019. Good snacks and great beer. Love the vibe that Detroit is getting.Update 8/23/2021. Still great beers and tasty food. First went with flight to get maximum tasting, followed by a regular sized beer with some food. Our table had mac-n-cheese and sandwiches. All good and served quickly.
Beer was not cold, serving staff didnt seem to know what areas they were responsible for. Food was average. With small improvements this could be a really good place.
A few blocks away, Harrys is a much better spot to eat and drink.
Awesome place with great food. This spot is legit. Everyone working the bar had a friendly face and all were eager to share recommendations on beers to try. The food was delicious too. Try the wings and pretzel. The only downer was the limited parking, but it’s not the end of the world. Def check it out if you’re a beer and/or food fan.
I love it. This was our go-to place in Detroit. Very relaxed atmosphere with fireplaces outside; good food, great beer.
A bunch of stuff not in stores. Really nice building and a lot of street parking.
I didnt get to hang out here, just stopped in to get some to-go beer, but judging only from that, theres quite a lot of beer available here!Im not sure I got all the ones that were available in the fridge, and I still walked out with 13 different beers, so youre bound to find something good and/or new, especially on the taps, which I imagine probably offer more than whats in the to-go fridge.Lots of merchandise available as well.
Beer a 12 out of 5! Swag a bit pricy but well worth it in quality. Highly recommend taking the #4Giants for a sweet spin. The mack smudge stout is a stellar sip. Get it
Had a great first experience! The food was delicious, beers were cold and overall great atmosphere. Ready to go back!
Happy to see this place open after its controversial closing. Was nice to return to get some of its delicious beer. This place has a great atmosphere. Rather spacious, but the seat yourself option can be difficult to get a table right away. In the summer with the outside seating will make it somewhat easier maybe. The extended patio is a must in the summer. Service has always been good. Not much experience with the food yet. Theyre not expensive per se, but not on the cheap side either. I will check it out at some point Cant beat the Blushing Monk beer that I believe is always on tap.
Plain fry food and weird waiter, Very expensive food for the quality, Ordered a sandwich that was supposed to be famous and made on sour dough but when it came out it was on dry dollar store bread and they didnt have the chips for our beer cheese dip and still charged us full price. Waiter was really nosey and kept hanging around our table, Also kept repeating himself 3x after we said wed like a moment to continue deciding on the menu. He added to the worsening experience, I always tip well despite the circumstances but that night I did not Home boy was just bizarre and didnt refill our drinks as well, It was a beautiful atmosphere ruined by a weird waiter and an extremely high bill. We left hungry and in a bad mood lol Wont be back! The only pro about this place is they let us sample their beers on tap under the extreme watchful eye of the weird waiter that kept trying to sell us their nasty beer No thanks
Very nice space but very small and gets crowded quickly. Located in a very sketchy part of town. They had a security guard at the door and I saw some suspicious behavior at the basketball court next door to their building. I wouldnt want to go there at night. I dont know the city overall though so take that into consideration. Beer was founders and was fantastic. Food same. Service same.Aesthetically inside 4/5Service 4/5Beer 5/5Location 2/5Overall 3.5/5
Founders Detroit has amazing staff!!! Thank you for all you do, you made my night possible!
We had great service and the sandwiches were great! It feels unnecessary to say that the beer was also amazing per usual!
Walked in and instantly walked out. We were sat at our table and before the waitress even said hello or greeted the table she was extremely rude. I understand that there are new guidelines for operation, however you can alert guest of them in a polite manner. We would have easily complied, but the waitress went about it in a very unnecessary way.
The beer is delicious! If youre not already familiar with founders, theyre a michigan favorite. The food surprised me too. I had the veggie burger and it was homemade, one of the better black bean burgers Ive had at a restaurant. My partner liked the muggers club too. everything was excellent, good job
I am a big fan of Founders beer in general and I visit the Detroit Tap Room quite frequently.I love the selection of beers, the mothership series, and the beers they brew specifically for Detroit. The food is pretty good. Service is always spot on. The patio is great. Its just always so busy and with the communal seating, almost nearly impossible to ever get a seat. Otherwise this place is perfect.
Ive always liked stopping in here for a few pints and just watching people mill about. If recommend going in just before the local sports team lets out,(Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, Roller Derby...) and get a good seat for the afterparty! Its an interesting cross section of Detroit, and the beer is always some of the best in the nation.
First, let me say that the beer is awesome. BUT the food is very disappointing... they boast having deli sandwiches which are meager at best. I ordered the Godfather sandwich (italian) and it literally had one slice of each meat! for $11 yall!! Look at the photo. On top of that, the chicken wings had a ton of little hairs still in the skin. See photo. Great beer, disappointing food.
Great atmosphere. Huge detection. I enjoyed the Philly and 2 beers. Highly recommend
This bar had a great atmosphere and a spacious patio with heat for the chillier nights. I highly recommend the beer cheese dip and getting a flight of brews to taste a bunch if you’re visiting Detroit
Always great service and great beer! I’ve never had a beer I didn’t like from Founders. The workers are extremely helpful, and willing to take the time to talk with you about what they offer and your own personal tastes. Can’t recommend this location enough!
Food was ok beer is great service was some of the worst I have ever seen took 25 just for anyone to say hi and ask if we needed anything and we where siting at the bar.
Nice brewery. The disco ball seems a bit out of place.
Devils danger Sandwich was amazing ... spicy 🔥🔥. One of the best I had in recent times .
Excellent beer. First time to the Detroit location and they did a really nice job with the layout. Like the GR location food is limited to mostly sandwiches, but unlike the GR location a server will come by and take your food order, although you still need to pick it up at the counter. The location is kind of scary, get prepared to get hassled by the homeless. Try to park in their fenced lot if possible.
Amazing spot. Great food, better beer.
Totally different experience from my last trip here. The host and waiter were fast and friendly, great food and beer. The waiter said they make the appetizers in house now. We used an outdoor table, about half of them have umbrellas. They also had half the garage doors open to the main room.
Pizza was good but not fabulous. I give it a 7.8 I
Great beer. Great service, good food. Very chill. Management very nice. Very covid complaint great to see all staff wearing mask or face covering. Tables socially distant.
Beer is good. Food is just as good.
Food was horrible. The ribs were burnt and even after having them remade my second order was disgusting. Only thing that was served correctly was the pops!! My wife and I had planned to go to this restaurant for weeks and the food completely ruined our dinner date.
Cool place to go, but it needs more parking
Great place to pregame before the Tigers!! Park here and walk to Comerica! 🐯💜
Only my 2nd visit to a Founders Brewery. 1st visit was in Grand Rapids, michigan a year ago, before a THE WHO show. The food was tremendous. The brew was very good. But, ... there are 2 Order Beer Here spots at the bar ... & the Order spot at the end of the bar was a JOKE !!! Bar staff walked past a short line of patrons multiple times, or walked up & looked directly at us, then turned around & tended to other patrons sitting at the bar, while we stood there for many minutes simply wanting to request a couple of beers. Another gentleman & i were dumb-founded by the LACK of service. Finally, we both headed to the main Order spot at the center of the bar & were served almost immediately. Very disappointing. On a much brighter note, my girl & i sat with a couple of off duty employees, & they were AWESOME. They described the different brews, from the beer menu, to us & even made recommendations. They were very personable. Made a disappointing situation far less disappointing. The gentleman at the food counter was, also, AWESOME !! But the LACK of service at the 1st Order spot was quite frustrating. Just saying !!!
Superb beers in a nice taproom. A must stop for any beer lover!
Wow, super disappointed in management and the entire Founders team. The greeter told me the wait was an hour and suggested I go to Honest Johns. Then, as I waited for my mug to be brought up from the back he told the next couple who came in that he could seat them in 15-20 minutes. Really? Are you serious! Ill never come back! #617
Hadnt been to the Detroit taphouse yet but wow! We took a friend who was visiting and we were all blown away. Miles, our server, was amazing, recommending drinks and taking the initiative to bring us things he thought we might like to sample. We loved it, and will definitely be back with guests!
