Fantastic shop. When I wanted to bring an oddball bike back into spec, they worked with me to restore it to its original function. When the oddball bikes quirkiness got me stranded one too many times and I was ready to throw it off a cliff, they helped me convert it to something more reliable, all within a very tight budget. Would highly recommend.
Very nice people that are really great at their job and extremely helpful and thorough.
Very knowledgeable and accommodating. Picked up a State cycle here and also had it boxed up to take overseas.
Great little place! Friendly service, fast turnaround, low-prices, definitely a great local shop
Visited the shop in the evening on Wednesday May 12th, 2021 for a routine bike part and after the shop employee finished degrading the customer in line before me, he was extremely rude and verbally refused to even look for the part I was requesting. Not to mention, the little stock that the shop does have is overpriced. Needless to say, I will not be returning as there are plenty of other bike shops on the front range to give my business to who actually treat customers with respect as fellow cyclists.
Went for a flat tire and was done quicker than expected. Will recommend for any one who need this kind of service.
Ive been going to Ian exclusively for my bike servicing needs since the day he opened. HIs excellent service is rooted in his passion for bikes and bike-oriented urban living.
My favorite bike shop in Denver. Great location next to Tattered Cover. Always helpful and quick.
Great shop, has small parts that I need here and there. Wide variety, especially classic road.
FAST SERVICE... Value priced. Hidden behind the Tattered Cover 🙂
After a nightmare of a time dealing with another bike shop and many months of headaches, Velowood was a relief and comforting experience. I ordered a bike to be built and was given a 2 week time period. Two days before those 2 weeks were up I received a call telling me it was finished. The bike looked great and was put together well without any damage to the components. The only detail they missed was removing the residue left behind from stickers that some of the components must have shipped with. The most comforting part of this process was only having to make a down payment of half the price of the bike. Only once it was built and in my hands did I have to pay the second half.I returned a few months later in regards to changing the tire size on the bike and they knew exactly what I was looking for. 45 minutes later and only $10 of labor I was riding on new slicks.Something I love about the shop is their proximity to the book store next door. A great place to kill time while they work on the bike.
Amazing shop. Have had tuneups from most of the bikeshops in town, and Velowood is the best. Ive had to stop back in a few times between tuneups for quick brake adjustments and stuff, and theyre always very quick to help and if its a small job and youre a regular client, they might not even charge you! Cant recommend this place any more strongly!
The weather felt like almost 100 degrees yesterday. My bike didn’t fit in my car, so I had to drive in a most sketchy way to Velowod and I was hoping my bike would get fixed. Sadly, they didn’t have the supplies I needed, BUT the staff there was extremely helpful and friendly, told me everything I should know about my bike, what should I change for the bike. He even referred me to other bike shop down the street and advised me to call the other shop first before I go. (Very wise advice, and I definitely learned.) . Although i didn’t shop there, but I am almost positive they’d do a great job if I did.Thank you for being so helpful. :)
I have brought my bike here several times for various needs and they always do a great job. Friendly, fast and affordable - highly recommend.
I cant recommend this place enough. They go above and beyond to make sure youre happy with your bike. I have an old Fuji that im very attached too. And Velowood not only fixed it for me, they put it in the best shape its ever been in. Ive never been in a shop with better attention to detail and work ethic. Im telling everyone I know to go there.
Im a busy professional and bike enthusiast who would love to work on my bikes all day, but simply doesnt have the time. I had to have a couple sealed bearings replaced on my Halfbike 3 and it involved using a special bearing remover which I did not have. The guys at Velowood have been really busy during COVID-19, but they made the time to handle my request in record time. Thanks very much guys. You are my bike shop from now on!
Super friendly, enthusiastic and quick service! This was my first time visiting but I will absolutely be back
Ian is an amazing mechanic, he knows bikes better than anyone and he will go the extra mile to make sure your bike is in the best shape it can be. I highly recommend this shop! Good prices, personable service and quality bike care!
Great service people, friendly, helpful, carry some useful accessories. My go-to place for quick adjustments close to home.
Good dudes, great neighborhood shop. Do most of my own maintenance but this is the first place I take my bike if I ever run into anything I cant handle. Shop is smaller but they can get you pretty much anything special ordered.
Guys are very nice and are helpful answering questions.
I trust Ian with my life. He and his staff built a high-end mountain bike from scratch with nothing but sheer ingenuity and talent. Anytime I need an awesome built or just a quick-tune, Velowood is the spot for me!
One of the best shopping experiences Ive ever had. Ive been bike commuting for about six months, so there are still some things Im learning, and he helped me figure those things out.He didnt just point to a bike and say, You want that one. He had me ride around on quite a few to compare different seats, different pedals, different shifting mechanisms, and so on. He listened to how I was going to use the bike, and put together the combination of parts in my budget to best fit that. Ive never had a custom bike before, and this is fantastic.Everyone in the shop was helpful. There was a particular saddle I wanted to try that they did not have on one of their stock bikes, so one of the employees let me ride his personal bike (his baby) which did have it.These are people that go beyond knowing their stuff, they live it. Its clearly a passion for everyone there. The owner rides a bike to and from the shop every day. They answer questions from person experience. There are other bike shops closer to me, but I wont go anywhere else now.
I wish I could give this place 10 stars. Victor was so helpful and knowledgeable and taught me everything I needed to know about my (brand new) bike.He explained everything and discussed what would work best for me and even did the small fixes right there on the spot.Wonderful place. Wonderful service. 10/10 would recommend
I had an incredibly positive experience here. The employees provided some great advice for me regarding whether or not to build up a bike with an old frame I had. In the end I was able to trade in some old parts and decided to purchase one of their bikes for a very fair price. Would 10/10 recommend this bike shop!
This shop conducts business with the great integrity and professionalism. These folks get my vote and my business. They were exceptionally accommodating, did great work, and tuned around the repairs in a fraction of the time originally agreed upon. Thanks Velowood!
They have another customer for life. Bought my street bike here for an inexpensive buck. Never needed a tune up or anything replaced. Service is very reliable. Honest work and nice people.
The Only Bike Shop I keep coming back to for all my bike need why because the service is on point and for me customer service is whats its all about i never feel uncomfortable or stupid to ask a question I dont know
The store was super rad, but I can’t really say the same for the guy working. definitely had that “I wish you were not here while I was trying to work on this bike” vibe.... ehh what else do you expect from Capitol Hill
Great bike shop. I am a casual/commuter cyclist and they set me up with exactly what I need. Quick turn around on a bike they built up for me and free adjustments afterward. Very friendly. Thank you Josh and Victor.
Be careful who you have working on your bike here. I took mine in for a tune up and it broke the next ride. When I asked them to fix it they said it was a manufactures defect and to contact them. With all the 5 star reviews obviously the service isnt bad for everyone but it was for me.
I work just a block away and stopped in to see if they would be able to put my chain back on my bike. Not only did they do that, they changed out some parts and made my bike ride like new. They know what they are doing and know what they are talking about. Victor, gave great customer service and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs anything to do with a bike!
This is what a bike shop should be. I had a race the following day and my gears were out of wack so I popped in without an appointment and the guy stops what he’s doing, throws my bike up on the rack, takes about 5-10 minutes to adjust the gears and do a quick overview, all the while explaining to me exactly what he’s doing (I aspire to do these fixes myself one day), finishes up and says, “Does $20 sound alright?” (Their normal full tune is $45 I think). Quick, affordable and as it turns out, quality work. Bike performed great the following day...if only its owner was a better athlete. Huge fan of this place, glad I live so close.
Highly recommend this bike shop! They know what they are doing and always do a great job tuning my mountain bike! They are very reasonable in price and get the job done ASAP!
Extremely personable staff who showed in many of their actions that they cared about a positive customer experience, and about making sure that my bike was ready to go. They assembled, tuned, and installed new parts, including a fork, on my downhill bike. Very fair and reasonable pricing, and fantastic customer service. Ill definitely be coming back.
I couldnt imagine going to another bike shop. They staff all have fantastic personalities and the owner is often in-store. From simple tune-ups to a new bike built from scratch, anyone is welcome. If they have the time, they will help you learn your bike and explain the procedure to repairing your problem... or if you just want to let the professionals care for it, you can do that too. Find some hidden gems and accessories that are half off or find the most luxurious saddles for full price. Ive gotten tune-ups, wheels built and made true, bought small obscure bike parts and just come in to chat. Ive never left without a smile on my face and I think that leaving somewhere happy is the only way to tell youd be back for more. I recommend this bike shop to everyone I meet.
Awesome bike shop and service. Couldn’t recommend them enough.
I took my bike here to have it tuned for the season and all I experienced here was exceptional customer service. The employees here are very knowledgeable and know how to talk to customers. They genuinely want to help you with your bike needs without over charging or selling you something you don’t need. I will always take my bike here!
I bought a bike for $20 on Craigslist that looked brand new, but the lady I got it from said she was selling it because she didnt like riding it. I had my kids with me so I had to test drive it when I got home. It definitely didnt feel right or safe. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and ended up coming to Velowood even though I live over 30 minutes away. Im so glad I did and they have a customer for life. When I got there I had my one year old and my 4 year old with special needs with me so I didnt bring my bike down at first. The guys initially told me it might be about a week for a full tune. I told them I didnt think it needed a full tune and how I got it and he said hed look at it. He even came up into the parking garage to get my bike for me. It turns out the bike wasnt even assembled correctly! He ended up fixing my bike for me while we waited (we went over to Tattered Cover for a bit). Its really difficult for me to get out and do things like this with my kids in tow, but I didnt have another option and really wanted to make sure my bike was safe. Im so very grateful for the time, kindness, and care I got from the guys at Velowood. They went the extra mile for me and made my day. They absolutely deserve your business. 👍👍
They did good work on a not so easy bike which is now riding great. Im so happy with the service. Down to earth non-pretentious bike mechanics who get the work done. Thanks Victor and Josh!
A wonderful small business around the corner from where I live with a very friendly owner and employees. They always go above and beyond to help me with any bike issues I have and are very patient with my lack of cycling knowledge. Prices are quite fair and they get things done quickly. I highly recommend!
This place is amazing! Victor is helpful and friendly and provides good service and great prices. Im new to cycling so I often feel out of place in a bike shop but I dont get that vibe here. Will be back!
Been in a couple times for minor maintenance on my bike. Both times I had excellent service and was charged very reasonably. Would highly reccomend.
The service you get here is absolutely unrivaled in denver. an incredible staff; hard-working, knowledgeable, and light hearted. if i ever have concerns, or even questions, about something on my bike, these are the guys i would choose!
Velowood Cyclery is everything I ever could have wished for in a neighborhood bike shop. Ive been in the market for a new bike, and so headed over and immediately was not only helped, but walked through the shop and shown every option available. I only kinda sorta knew what I wanted when I arrived, and Victor was so kind and patient, explaining everything to me and answering my questions until I found just the right bike. He let me try out a similar bike to make sure it was exactly the one I wanted, too. While I was there, the rest of the Velowood crew was helping people with brakes, filling tires, and reconstructing other bikes; it was clear that everyone there is super friendly and very knowledgable. Im still waiting for my bike to arrive, but I am so impressed and happy with my experience that I know Velowood will be my go-to bike shop for any of my future bike needs from here on out.
Best experience EVER with a bike shop. Victor and his crew are happy to work with you and build you the bike you want.Nothing here is rushed and nothing is overlooked or assumed to be right. Order up a complete bike? He completely disassembles and makes certain it is all put together, greased and tightened to spec.Other bike shops were snooty about things. Victor was all about service.I will be sending all of my friends here.
Wonderful bike shop thank you for having me
Raddest dudes, helped me way above expectation. Ill definitely be going back for everything that I need for my bike. Prices are not only extremely fair but the selection for such a small shop is tops. Ask for Blake. Dude rocks.
I have had multiple bikes repaired here and the staff has always been incredibly helpful with the highest of quality repairs/tuneups completed. This has become my regular bike shop - definitely check them out!
Smaller bike shop, but they have all the necessities. The staff is very friendly, which is always a plus. They were willing to get me in on the spot for emergency maintenance. Ill definitely be back, since you can kill time at Tattered Cover or Twist & Shout while they work on your bike =)
Not only is this place awesome with awesome parts and awesome service, they take care not to sell you things you wont need. They actually talked me out of buying a second bike for winter. Thanks guys! Trust Trust Trust.
Velowood is the absolute best. The owner has a naturals bike sense. All the employees are friendly and will treat you with respect and patience, even if youre a complete dummy when it comes to bikes. They have definitely earned my loyalty.
I took my daughters bike in for a missing break pad and stripped break line. Victor provides A1 customer service and Was very honest and knowledgeable about what I need and what I should spend on the parts. My kinda bike shop 💯
Thought it was lame they didnt have a tube to fit my bike. Especially when called in advance... guess I should have specified that I needed certain(common size)Wasted 20 minutes
Awesome bike shop! The owner is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and goes out of his way to make sure youre completely satisfied. Definitely check it out.
Very rude. Go somewhere else if youre looking for a business that cares.
Love this bike shop! Victor and Blake are awesome and they made my bike feel like new. Cant thank you enough guys!
I just got my dream bike at this shop! It is a gear-free (just the one built-in gear), coaster (foot) break (with one front-wheel hand break) FOLDING BIKE that rides like a DREAM, and its so PRETTY! Its a Dahon Boardwalk, black and gray. They had been using it as their go get a sandwich bike so I got it used for $200 instead of $500 had it been new. Ive been wanting a folding bike so I can take public transportation and then bike the rest of the way to where Im going, while using minimal fossil fuels. I can also ride it to work, yet be flexible and throw it in the back of someones car or take it on the bus if I want to do something different after work, etc. I got some side bags (grocery shopping!) made from recycled materials. So happy! Another customer for life. 😃Who knew there was a bike store right south of the side entrance to the Colfax Tattered Cover? Favorite old bookstore (customer for 35 years) right next to my brand new favorite bike shop, same reasons: authentic, mindful, ethical, human--and just plain friendly!
A few months ago I called this place a gem and it sure is.I just sent a bike from NY to Denver and after assembling it I took it to Velowood for a tuneup. Josh did a great job and even worked overtime to get me the bike as soon as possible..Bill
First experience: I walked in looking for a part and they had a take-off that they just gave to me. Great first impression. Ill be back.
Got hit by a truck and the vehicle owner gave me money for the damage. Turns out parts cost more than I thought but Victor gave me a deal that worked out to just a few dollars more than the guy gave me. Super nice guys in there. I will be back for all my needs.
Super helpful staff. Good prices. A little hard to find: they are in the walkway between Tattered Cover and Twist & Shout.
These guys were so helpful and friendly. Great experience overall. Will be back.
Fast service. Cool people. I dont live too close, but well worth the travel. Found my new bike shop for as long as theu are around. I hope its a very long time.
My second 5 star experience with velowood cycle-tune and new schwalbe tires. Owner Victor and mechanic Josh were great, knowledge and friendly. Feels like home!
Seriously the best shop in Denver. Great selection of parts, tools, and everything for many types of bikes. Shop is very clean and organized, with good music in the background and a friendly, positive and professional atmosphere and staff. The owner is very cool, helpful, and really knows his stuff, he is fair with prices and is always tossing in something for free. This is the only bike shop I will go to. I am very very picky about my limited edition rare cruisers that no one has, his hands are perfect for them, not a scratch on them ever, great care taken, and solid work and quality. For all of those saying bad things....maybe you are all better off going to kmart or walmart for your bike needs, after all this is a local, way cool, to good of a shop for you. On the other hand if you love to bike, are just getting started or are a seasoned pro, this is where you go if you want the best service, warranties like all the box stores, service with a smile thats genuine and to support local. I am never one to do reviews, but this one is worth its weight in Colorado gold.Velowood is the best in Denver!!
I’ve checked out a bunch of cycle shops around town and out of the few I like these guys are my favorite! I come here even though it’s not the closest to me.
What a great bike shop. I really enjoy going to Velowood because they have such a great staff and know what theyre doing.
Great owner. Thanks for all the service given over the years
I dropped off a $125 Craigslist road bike that wasnt even rideable, but after their comprehensive tune, it runs like new! The owner took the time to go over the bike with the technician to try and lower my cost, but there was just too much work to be done. Super friendly staff and a quick turn around on a great bike tune. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.
Fast friendly and most importantly great work. Love this place.
I had a flat tire and I needed a new tube and help fixing the flat. I called over and spoke with Joe - he told me the tube would be $5 and installation $5, too.I brought my bike over to the Velowood shop on 6th and Downing and was in and out in under 25 min! I was very impressed with Joes knowledge and speediness - and, he didnt mind me watching over his shoulder and asking questions while he worked.Joe also helped me clean up some frayed wires on my gears and helped with some cosmetic issues as well.My trip cost me $25 with the tube, install + cosmetic work, and also a new wire to lock my front bike tire to my U-lock.A+ experience... I will be back and recommend to all my Denver friends! Thanks, Joe!-Sam
This place is nice looking but the ppl there are no good. Everything seems business as usual but really these ppl will take advantage of anyone they get a chance to. I went in for a flat, came back and they started telling me of all types of bolts they straightened and what not and ended up paying $40 when I simply wanted the flat tire repaired. They acted like they were doing me a favor but the real thought they had was how can we get away with charging more. Victor sold me a bike for much more than it was worth and a old model year at that. These ppl know how to seem genuine but they are not. They struggle to have the shop strive. They want your money. They care not for loyal customers but just the shop. Don’t support this business. The honesty and true passion has left this shop long ago. They are closer to a corporation now. Nobody likes that. They have plenty of things to help a good returning customer but nothing was a free check up. Can’t even put the caps back on my tube. I’m telling you don’t go here.I bet the owner won’t reply to this trying to make it right. Proof is in the pudding. I called them and told them about the review. He hasn’t replied. If it wassuch a good deal both times offer me a full refund.Still didn’t offer a refund and you all can see he backs up them doing work unauthorized by the Bike’s actually owner. No refund offered just offering a chance for them to make more money just pulling on the point like good service in the future corrects a past mistake. I don’t want better service in the future offer a full refund. I would never return to your hole in the wall of a shop. You over charged me on the bike and I’m sure you do the old bike shop trick of flattening tire in the area to boost sales. Offer something. An outlet to spend money fixes nothing.
Excellent service, team is always willing to help, thanks!!!!
I love Velowood. Victor the owner is great and very hlepful, the staff is knowledgeable, the selection is nice, and their work is very custom and passionate - I cant imagine going anywhere else!
Ive been cycling for about 20 years, and in that time Ive been a customer at many different bike shops. Velowood is a great shop.Victor and his crew provide basically everything you want in a bike shop. Theyre good mechanics. They dont upsell, and their labor fees are reasonable. Theyre friendly and reliable. Theyre knowledgable about a wide range of equipment. They arent snobs. (That can be an issue in some bike shops, especially road bike shops.) Theyve worked on both my high-end road bike and my commuter bike, and done a great job with both. Its become my go-to bike shop in Denver. Convenient location for people in Congress Park, City Park, or Cap Hill -- right next to the Sie Film Center.
Quick walk-in service midday on a Thursday. New tire and tube serviced with a very short wait. Quality recommendations by the staff.
Would not recommend for full suspension tune-ups. Took to have creaking noise evaluated and fixed; was told I needed a new chain and hubs adjusted; paid >$100 for tune up (of that charged $20 fee to eliminate creaking). Problem unchanged when I picked it up so I brought bike back and then was told I needed new bearings and pivots adjusted.TLDR; Didnt fix primary problem. I dont trust this store, and I will not be returning.
One of the coolest shops around denver, if you are looking to buy a simple and flashy bike, or convert your old rust bucket (my bike) into a slick single speed or fixie, this is the ideal location to go and actually look at the parts that will go on your bike! most shops talk about being able to get anything in any color, but it is so much nicer to see the actual object before it goes on the bike! Victor is very passionate and super friendly, and will always steer you towards the sensible more durable option when choosing parts. State bikes are very cool, and Vic is always willing to swap parts around for no extra charge so you can have the colors you want.
Great place! Friendly and helpful staff get you back and on your bike fast.
I started off by scouting area shops trying to find a place willing to help me achieve a dream of bringing a bike i was gifted when i owned nothing first moving here back to life after i thrashed a lot of its original components commuting denver and aurora. Victor gave me a quote to get it back going in my direction and I didnt have spare cash for months. I eventually showed up a few months later and it was victors day off but instead i got to meet some mechanics of his, I believe ones name was chance. I explained to them where i was at and what i was trying to do and they gave me the same quoted price months later! I went through with it and though the frame was seized beyond belief after hours of working at it, I believe even bending a tool or two, everything in the job came out perfect. Ive put a lot of miles on the bike since and everything is sound, tried and trued. As I continue to finish this upgrade frankenstein thing this shop will be my go to for thing i cant get done at home. Thanks again guys. The Lotus and I thank you.
A fantastic bike shop and extremely knowledgeable as well as friendly staff!!!
Awesome little Shop tucked away in the ally. Friendly staff and very helpful!
Im so thankful for all of your help! Very kind people! I love all the quirky unique accessories they have.
They were very mean. I asked to use a tire lever to change my tire and he said it was $10 to use it and was very rude about it. Every other shop Ive been to allows you to use the tools for free. Would not recommend this place
Im going to do my best to never visit Vellowwouldnt again. I spent $1200 on a new mtb here (I know, not that much in the mtb world) but once the bike was assembled and delivered good ole Victor became a different guy. I came back to the shop to buy pedals and Victor was aloof at best. When I asked his thoughts on using flat or platform pedals, I wasnt sure if he even knew what they were. Every time I went into the shop I felt more like a bother than a customer. Maybe he just didnt like me?? I came in one day to get a copy of a receipt for a bike lock I purchased because I never got the original receipt. The shop had a few bike repair customers at the time so Victor took my email and said he would send a copy via an email. Never saw it. Called a second time and left a message as a reminder. Never got the receipt. So, I never was able to register the warranty. Btw, just bought a higher end road road bike. I bet you can guess that I didnt get it from Vellowwouldnt. I would encourage anyone looking for service and quality products visit Wheat Ridge Cyclery. A much better experience and great ongoing care.
Great bike shop. Very helpful. Great service.
Really cool spot i love bikes i love life!!! carpe fkn diam my dudes lets ride some bikes!!! lets get it! shoutout to homeboy!! cool times my man cool times : - ) i love the band pavement theyre so cool!!! whats in the water??? who knows!!
Super great place!
Fast and reliable service, reasonable prices and a friendly staff.
My wife and I went to chipotle to grab a bite to eat. On the way out we walked passed Velowood Cyclery. They had an awesome coper bike in the window so we went in to look at it. We were greeted by the owner Victor. And he told us the bike was a custom build for decoration for a B&B. Upon drooling over it, he explained that all bikes in his shop are custom build and he could build the same for me if Id like. Victor order the bike framed and said I dont have to put anything down just let him know when I was ready to have build it. I told him it would be 1 1/2 months before I could have him start the project. He was ok with that. I have to admit Im not used to his style of service but its honestly legendary.A month did go bye and I called him and told him I wanted to have the bike build. He told me the frame he ordered for me was in storage and all I had to do is go by and work out the fine details on color, wheels, options, etc. My wife went by the shop and got it all sorted out. He told me I didnt need to pay him till the bike was build and normal build time takes 3 hours. Because the shop was close to closing the project itself wouldnt be started to the next day.The bike got finished in the time he said. I was excited to ride it home. Its ridiculously lite and and a wonder to build. I honestly cant wait to have him build my wife one. When she ready of course. If your looking for a custom bike with character and charm and shop with the same qualities... Id recommend Velowood Cyclery.
All the guys Ive received help from at Velowood are professional and really put forth the effort to give the best service at a reasonable price.
This guy gets it. Exceptional customer service!
So helpful!
Great place, Great people good work
Victor seems nice.
They really know their stuff .
Great bike shop!
I. Sometimes. Help. There
The good pussy
