We will all miss this place as they seem to be gearing down to close up shop. Thank you for your great deals, awesome and eccentric selection of items, and for having everything we never thought we would need under the roof of an impressive building with hardworking individuals doing their best to Serve us in a manor that you could be proud of. Thank you Mendelsons.
I dont even know how to describe this place! Housed in an old brick warehouse/factory building, the store has two floors of stuff and a smaller building across the parking lot that houses old store fixtures and stuff. The first floor in the main building has everything from kitchen and restaurant supplies to used filing cabinets and old wooden NCR boxes. The second floor of stuff is actually the third floor of the building that requires a ride on an old service elevator. The third floor is row upon row of every electronic, mechanic, industrial part you can imagine. Its worth going just for the fun of walking through the old building and seeing the wide range of random stuff they sell.
Visit now, while you still have the chance, days are limited. The remaining merchandise and shopping area is confined to the first floor now, and the true grandeur of the experience has been lost to history, but if you spent even a little bit of your childhood here the memories will come flooding back instantly. Im profoundly grateful to have grown up during a period of Dayton history where this place was a resource. Thanks Sandy, et al
Very interesting place. Very much a little of everything, lots of restaurant supplies and industrial items. Also surprising selection of work clothes, gloves, hats, etc. On the third floor, great place for fabricators look for supplies, stuff to make your imagination run wild. Very clean and organized.
Great place to spend an hour or two exploring second-hand and liquidated stock. Furniture (both office and home), housewares, knick-knacks, commercial restaurant setups, chemistry items from WSU, clothes, closeout toiletries, and more I didnt get time to see. Store used to take up two floors; now, just the lower level. Store is going out of business after 50+ years and will close permanently in September or October 2020. Sorry to see it go.
Mendelsons is currently running a banana box sale, charging a flat rate to fill up a box with whatever you can fit in it. Unfortunately the third floor where all their electronics were kept is now closed. Mr. Mendelson told me they were moving the electronics down to a small section on the first floor but whats available there is a tiny percentage of the selection Im used to from the third floor. The kitchen utensils are almost entirely picked over, leaving behind a smattering of lab supplies, a ton of ugly ceramic decor, party supplies, surplus clothing ten years out of date, faded office supplies, and a number of large items and furniture.I may check back to see if theyve brought down more electronics but if not I see no reason to return.
The greatest electronics surplus store on earth. I love coming here. However it is closing in the next several months. Good bye mendelsons.
Loved the building most of allArcetech is amazing . Takes you back to when times were good. Worth the trip just to see the building. Hope it stands for years to come
When I got on the elevator with its own operator and a bench inside, I wondered if I was in some dream. I thoroughly enjoyed perusing the store which was like visiting a thrift store, garage sale, flea market, storage unit, and warehouse all in one. Some things were great deals like dishes but others I could get at better prices at the thrift store, like desks, chairs, file cabinets, and dressers.
That familiar smell: mold, dust, grease. Hard to describe. Up to the 3rd floor for an AC transformer. All the way to the back, easily a full city block. The expected jumble of smashed, busted and always filthy stuff. I look at 50 or so units and find a candidate. Its not marked so back to the desk for a quick test. I wait for the test man, he meters it, then plugs it into the power strip. POP goes the power strip. He checks the panel across the room.Transformer primary winding is shorted. I walk back the the other end of the building, find another specimen, walk back to the desk. This one also has a shorted primary and a hole drilled into the coil to expose the short. No need to pop the breaker this time. I was out of time and patience, hands dirty as always. I suppose there are useful things still in the mess, but theyre not as easy to find as they used to be.
Its a walk backward in time. They have just about everything. The only issue is, the prices are pretty high. I found drive belts that have been hanging on the wall for what looks like years..same price as new ones from Tractor Supply. The majority of items I looked at had no price, so I wasnt sure how to buy them. Its a great place to go if you need something unique.
Still a few good items but youll need to take your time to find to find them.
Im not even sure how to rate my experience. Five stars? Sure. This is one of the strangest places Ive ever been. Its an eclectic collection of just about everything industry--from beakers to generators to medical equipment. You can surely find something you dont need here. Ill be back...
Its true what they say, there is something for everyone inside this massive building. Its a creators dream and Im sad that itll be closing later this year but I always enjoy exploring Mendelsons.
Their slogan says it all: The first place to look for every last thing! Its like a box of chocolates--never know what youre going to found) find. I particularly like their electronics shop. The guys there are knowledgeable & very helpful. Hard to come out of there empty-handed!
Mendelsons, home of Mendelsons Electronic Junkyard. Aisles and aisles of poorly organized electronic components. The inventory hasnt been updated in years. Interesting place to check out and see for yourself, last place Id go to buy electronic components - even if youre looking for antique or vintage electronic stuff, good luck finding what you need!
Interesting collection of used, reclaimed, and new items. Must see to appreciate. third floor has a wide variety of reclaimed and used electronic parts and equipment that is perfect for the do-it-yourselfer or Maker. Also great props for Halloween.
This place is just a hoot. You never know what you might find. The 3rd floor electronics surplus extravaganza is the main attraction for me, but dont overlook everything else on the 1st floor. Allot yourself at least 3 hours for bargain surplus treasures.
They really have everything, however finding it is another story. The hardware and computer parts sections are a mess. We really felt like if they werent having a 50% off sale their prices were way to high for used stuff. They really did have some cool stuff though.
Mendel soma is another one of those Dayton Rites of passage that everyone must go through and experience once. The building is vast and has thousands upon thousands of items for you to select from. This place is a pickers dream. You can find just about anything for any item you have. Take the elevator up to the above floors to explore even more.
One of the most unique places youll ever visit. Go to the stores on both sides of the parking lot-all kinds of treasures to explore. Super friendly staff.
I guess since theyre going out of business they dont need to regard the mask policy. One or two customers wore one, but the rest and ALL of the staff didnt.
An interesting place to visit when you are NOT in a hurry. An amazing variety of things from old motors to paper towels. It would be a good idea to stop and browse when you have plenty of time(a few hours), just to get an idea of what they have, and about where things are located. Inventory is always changing too.
5star for 2 reason...ok maybe3. 1) going out of business sales throughout both buildings. 2) an item i found fit perfectly in my home. Also the AUDIO section took alota my $$, i even came back for second system, the next day.3) no matter what STAR(s) given, theyll still close their doors for good mid-2020. Most worth the visits. Hope no one misd these closeouts sales.
This long time store is closing its doors....prices were pretty decent and the workers were super!
I know theyre closing and doing sell outs. The inventory is a potpourri of old stuff and business items. The fill a banana box was not entirely explained. But everyone was very friendly.
Mendelsons has been a fixture of Dayton for decades. The store is closing and you need to get in there asap. It will be missed!
Nice staff. Just not what I personaly wanted. But still a wide selection on everything else.
Havent been there in years. I enjoyed looking but didnt even get to see everything. It seemed to be more organize than I remember but thats a good thing.
Good place to shop when you are looking for something that you cant find in other stores.
I hope this place stays around forever its got every thing you could imagine and some pretty rare stuff. American picks tv show should go here it would be so cool.
Im fascinated by electricity, eletronic device and electrical connectors. When I need a part, Ive always found it there, so far. I like to attempt repairs on anything. Id call it call it a hobby. Exs have called it a mental illness trying fix garbage. So... I like it upstairs at Mendelsons. Ive learned to go alone. I havent met anyone yet that can spend hours in there with me.
Lots of stuff here but you need patience to go through all of it.
Ive always loved Mendelsons its like one big garage sale in doors.
Mendel sons Liquidation Outlet is a unique Dayton OH experience. We can visit for business or pleasure. For us this is so much more than an E Bay experience. If you need to sell, there are experienced purchasing specialists to assist and plenty of display area. This discount store offers appliances, electronics, restaurant items, sporting goods, motors, cable and wire, blueprint files and everything thing else that catches the owners eye. Also, you may park here directly across the street for Dayton Dragon at home games for $5.00. Lucky you if Mendel sons is open.
To call this a discount store... Not quite accurate. There are many treasures to find if you dont mind sorting through mountains of rubbish. The first floor has a lot of restaurant and manufacturing equipment, both new and used. ...but much of the merchandise is decidedly overpriced for its age and condition. I would be more receptive to the prices if the items were clean and proven to be in working condition. Its a fun visit to be sure, but dont expect a bargain.
Neat place for finding random stuff.Use the bathroom before you go here. Theyre absolutely horrible.
Always a great place for that peice you cant find anywhere else
Imagine Industrial HellBut as a store. You will get lost in this place. You will find things you will regret seeing. You will be puzzled at the sites and sounds. Is it a thrift store? Yes.Is it a electronics store? Yes.Is it a restaurant supply store? In a way, Yes.An experience you need but never asked for. Another dimension. Also has an elevator operator. Which is an absolute treat.I hope this store never leaves...Oh wait :(
Dont go unless y want junk.
Stuff everywhere. 50% off. It should be. It make take a day or so to get through it. Or to find something you may want. lol
Going out of business... good deals
Interesting stuff old and new of all types. step into memory lanes looking through vintage electronic hardwares on 3rd floor by using old elevator.
Great store for just bout everything closing one location to build hotel,,,hurry up before its gone. Sandy Mendelson a smart business operater.
Love mendelsons they have an ama?ing selection of everything. Bought me a rockin sony compact disc chsngerR
There is something for everyone here. If your working on a project stop in here first and look around ask if they have what you are looking for they will tell you where to find it. Everytime I go here I am surprised at what they have. If they dont have what Im looking for I run across something I need for another project and its much cheaper than buying it elsewhere. Yes you might have to look for it a minute or two but it is well worth the trip.
I’m not sure I understand the business model. Part goodwill part dump small part outlet. I had assumed it was more new items mixed with slightly used. However it was mostly very old products, used items amongst a small amount of unused/new things. I’ll never go back but glad it serves the needs for some.
I love Mendelsons. I have been going here since I was a kid. If you need something odd, or unique, chances are youll find it here. Everyone should go at least once, even if its just to wander the aisles.
Definitely a very interesting store. Expect to go and not find what you were looking for, but lots and lots of stuff you werent looking for. It also has a dedicated parking lot, thats free, which is really rare for the area.
Wonderful shop really does have everything you could imagine and the prices are great too but I have to take points off because some of the staff are down right rude. Do not go in with 2 hours of closing time and have any expectations of being treated like anything other than a burden and a nuisance.
Great store for the most random supply of items around. Needed a few electronic items and left there only spending $2.00. Love this place!!
Everything is 50 percent off. Thats sweet.
Amazing deals on everything and anything. This is an old fashion kind of place where you make deals on handshakes and you haggle. If you don’t go in and try to make a deal then you’re really missing out.
Really fun place to poke through when you have time to really look and wander. I found exactly what I was looking for, after extensive and friendly help in the store fixtures side. I have no idea what they used to be, but they make lightweight and amazingly attractive stands for dangle earring selections.
This place will blow your mind. The amount of stuff they have is truly astounding. Most prices are reasonable and youre likely to find whatever youre looking for (and more).
Always fun! NEVER know what you are going to find! Wife wont let me go with credit card cuz I will max it :)
Find lots good things about food items on sale. Clearwater, different drink lots soda, different juices and different products food, house products for cleaning your home, fans and its my party supplies, only thing that dont have discount coupon card, for food store were can frozen yogurt, ice cream, cheese, milk, if he can make one part of course corner a lot more better, grocerys store?. People would really come into the place where: Mendelsons warehouse
First time. It was amazing. Its ashame its going out of business.
Came down from Metro Detroit and today is my second time to visit in a few years. Great place to visit, shop, great Ohio folks, and I always find something I need. Now we are going to eat at Skyline Chili.
Cool place for hard to find items-hurry going out of business
This place is awesome if u love going to close-out centers. If they dont have what im looking for, i always find something else i want or need.
You never know what youre gonna find it. Its like a giant indoor yard sale. I love this place.
Mendelsons is a very cool place but they have gone way up hill on prices .. It seems like you spend 3 hours digging for a cool item, only to find out they want 3 times what its actually worth.
Its seriously difficult to describe. If you need anything from screws to a part for an old vending machine, they probably have it. A lot of fun to explore.
They are going out of business, you can fill up shopping cart for $29.95
If you are looking for used items, this is the place. You name it and they just might have it in stock. Prices are good, but it depends on what you are looking for.
Glorified junk shop. Not worth the time or effort to go. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
If you are looking for new or used most things in mendelsons you can bargain on even if it is marked down to what ever % just be willing to make a fair offer.
You seen it a million times. From almost anywhere in the city, you can see the old watertower that sits atop the building.A very urban and industrial setting. Super cool.Mendelsons has just about anything a person can need. Multiple floors just packed with the most random stuff you can think of.You end up leaving with so much stuff you didnt even know you needed. The staff has always been friendly to me and very helpful. The bottom three floors are open to the public, while the upper floors are for serious storage. If you dont see what you need on the bottom three, just ask, and they probably have it in the top areas.Go check ot out.
Giant snipe hunt. You never know what you will find. If you want something specific just ask. They know where everything is in the entire complex.
Loved it ❤️ has everything low price now a sale for loyal customer then semi retirement a dynasty of stuff
Great deals. Entire store 50# off
Always a fun place they have odd ball things
Awesome place anything and everything
My daughter and I were looking for electronic components that she needed for a project. Great selection of expected and un-expected items. If you havent been there then you are missing out.
Oldschool warehouse department store in a great location. Theyll have what you need!Neat ride on the freight elevator
Plan on spending time walking around and browsing. A lot of odds and ends stuff. Never know what you are going to find.
Their prices are too high. I asked one of the ancient clerks there for a price on something, and he just pulled it out of his a** and made something up. I told him that price was much too high and the poor schlep didnt want to work with me. Total lack of service. Listen up: If you want to sell any of this rotting junk - you better get off your high-horse and drop the attitude AND drop your prices.
Great customer service. Employs veterans. Has about anything you could want.
Great place! Ive been going there occasionally for at least 30 years. Its my go-to place for hard to find stuff.
This place has everything from t-shirts to motor starters. Try here before you upgrade anything electrical because they have a huge selection of quality parts
Need a part? Come here!
I love that place and ill keep on going back .
If you like looking for your treasure in a pile of junk...this is your place. There are good deals to be had
Dirty, poor selection but employees very personable and helpful
I love treasure hunting at Mendelsons. Great deals and finds.
Things are overpriced and the owners a weirdo ( in my opinion) but the 30$ all you can fit box is a deal.
Great place if you have a couple hours. There is so much to see. They have overstock and cheap deals!
This is a unique place, has lots of things, old and new, need a whole day just to dig around the place.
This place needs six stars. Worth a long drive just to see it. Great prices, items youll never find anywhere else. Its a gigantic industrial garage sale.
Mendelssohns is a very unique place if youre looking for something that was probably made a few years back you have a very good chance of finding it and if you cant find it at mendelsons I guess youre screwed. I cant think of any other place you could go to that has the selection like mendelssohns
Sometimes youll get something Great at a Great Price, and other times youll laugh at overpriced priced junk. Regardless, youll have a FUN Time roaming throughout this landmark.
