Im a long-term U-Haul Customer and think very highly of the corporation and the services/products they provide.I was a customer for the past two years at the 1700 Box Road U-Haul Store (2x 10x10 Storage Units) for overflow storage while living in an apartment. One unit (1425) was burglarized in the Summer of 2018. Both units (1425/1437) sustained significant water damage over the past three months, resulting in moderate damage to multiple personal items.Given the multitude of other storage options in the Columbus area, I highly recommend AGAINST choosing 1700 Box Road U-Haul for this purpose.
Individual results will vary like any other product or service, but Ive had nothing but positive experiences with this U-haul location. Ive used them 6x over the last few years and have always had a great truck, never been overcharged, never had unneeded super long waits, and the staff is always direct and polite. Now, they have automated tools for the phone that allow you to make reservations ahead of time, and do everything that used to be on paper on your smartphone. It streamlines the process for pick-up and turn-in saving time and headache. 5 stars every time, and I would definitely recommend them.
I stopped using them because of bad experiences and horrible service years ago and it looks like it hasnt changed. Different rules for different vehicles that arent stated online for 8 truck or 9 van rentals needing a credit card versus a debit card just about everyone has with a major bank. Wasted trip just to be told we cant rent one. Now, Im completely done with anything related to uhaul.
Had to call roadside service because this location forgot to put in engine coolant... waited hours for roadside service to arrive, truck was an old 1990-ish gmc cab with wires hanging out under the steering wheel. Will go with Penske next time.
Great job! Mgt. Ryan was on spot with my truck rental. I had an early truck rental. At 07:30am; pickup time, my truck was in driveway running. When I enter his facility, he said my name, when I confirmed yes..driver license & cc card. I was out within 10mins. Very impressive professionalism and his team responsiveness to value my time. I highly recommend this facility because of the top notch customer Service. ☆☆☆☆☆ 5STARS
Awful customer service, they started checking me out then abruptly left to help another customer with no explanation. At least 5 employees working with no one at register. Line steadily backing up.

After dealing with the horrible people at the uhaul place on floyd rd, these very respectful guys really saved our tails and were able to give us a truck in time!
Just got off the phone with whoever, not helpful and a jerk. Didnt properly explain to me the prices and acted as if I should know the prices off the top of my head. You are better off renting from somewhere else or just do it yourself. I have never had a bad experience with U--Haul but that guy was not helpful and quoted me bad prices. So disappointed, only reason I called was because Budget did not have the truck I needed but they provided me with helpful information. I would not recommend this company(U-Haul) at all, they just want your money.

Owner was able to give good information about routes to take in our moving. Very helpful and unbothered by my multiple questions asked. Very understanding of our moving situation & prices are very affordable as far as moving material
Understaffed and super slow. Waited for over an hour to get a truck. I’ve used U-Haul before at other locations and never had this problem.
These guys really know the meaning of the word service. We had a series of issues with our tow equipment to move a vehicle. Jeremy went out of his way to make sure we got on the road safely.
Got in contact with a gentleman named Robert Turner who is the regional manager he was a huge help. I went to other uhaul locations where they gave me problem after problem and refused to help me. If I didnt get in contact with Robert I probably never wouldve gotten my hitch installed. Thanks Rob
If I could have given 0 stars I would have. This company is terrible. We paid to have a trailer hitch put on my 2015 Journey. When we got there on installation day (two weeks after placing the order) they didnt have all the required parts. They scratched DEEP scratches in the paint by the tail light (which has to be removed during installation). The employees there didnt care at all that they had scratched my car and tried to imply the scratches were there previously - its a new car...they were not! My car started making a rattling noise the day after installation. When we got to our destination, we went to the Dodge dealer...They incorrectly reattached my exhaust pipe and it was causing the rattling. I should have gone with my gut and the other terrible reviews on here, but no other uhaul in Columbus installs hitches. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else. I wish we had!!
This place sucks. There’s always only one person working behind the counter, even if there’s 10 customers waiting. If you come here, be ready to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour to make a simple purchase.
Do not recommend this store! Slow and unprofessional! Made a reservation for a motorcycle trailer. The minimal amount of time you can rent a one-way trailer is 4 days according to the guy who took my reservation. I told the gentleman that I would be able to pick it up Saturday which should be fine (which he said it was) because I am already paying for the 4 day rental. I arrive Saturday as stated and a different set of staff say the trailer was rented to someone else (out of town trailers were not available at this store they had to get one from a sister store). I told the gentleman behind the counter my dilemma which is a timeline of needing it before 6pm (to get a weight with and without my motorcycle and belongings because I am doing a partial DITY move). Since i mentioned needing it before 6pm in the initial conversation and then again when highlighting later WHY I need it today the employee Ryan says to me I heard you the first time. Not only was it rude he was condescending when he said it!!!!!!! Totally unprofessional and if it were my business he would be fired ! Customers are the lifeblood of any business and you dont treat someone rudley especially if the customer was not rude! Totally unprofessional. Im a repeat customer at this location as well. Good thing Im moving because I would never come back
Convenient location. A lot of inventory to meet your needs. Could be a little cleaner. The night drop off can feel a little sketchy if alone. Recommend having someone with you.
They carry everything from boxes, moving equipment, tie downs, locks, protective mattress plastic, and so much more. They also have on-site storage, and tons of rental options for vehicles. And they have the cheapest propane in town.
Best costumer service ever! beyond helpful. they were ready with option A, B or C to help us out.Drove around town to three other Uhaul location; NONE made the attempt to help. the guys at 1700 Box Road .....are true professionals! thank you all for getting us to TX Safe!!!
I always rent from this location if the size truck I need is available. My only 2 complaints are to always have more than 1 person working out front and not one person trying to do it all and handling the long lines and to get the trucks monthly inspections and repairs...other than that Its a good location.
Ive rented a 6x10 open trailer here on 4 occasions. The customer service is always horrible and they will leave you standing there waiting for no apparent reason. I never let it bother me because there are times I need to use that particular trailer. But the last time has caused me to wash my hands of these people. I go in to pick this same trailer up just like I have multiple times. The guy goes out to get the info from my truck then comes on and says I cant rent the trailer to you. He says the shaft on my ball is 3/4 inch and they require a 1 inch shaft. The guy that rented the trailer to me the previous 2 times was standing right there. I told the guy to look at the computer it will show that this guy standing right next to you rented me this trainer only 2 weeks ago. The guy looked at me and said sorry Im not doing it. I have a new ball I will sell you then we can get you going. I told him to shove it. Never ever again will I use any uhaul
The pick up and drop off was quick but being charged $100 for using a uhaul for 3 hours and less than 60 miles is nuts.
Used this Uhaul a few times now.1. Easy turn-in.2. Chronically understaffed.3. Dropped everything to rush fix my tow hitch harness and charged me half price for the part.Not the best, not the worst, but good enough to get four stars.
Horrible service. Rented a trailer back in February.. The wheels locked up.. They came and picked it up was supposed to refund me and never did. Finally got ahold of someone in cooperate. Told me a check was mailed on April 24th. And would take up to 10 days. Well here we are 20 days later still no check. Horrible service and horrible management.
Ive seen some good and bad reviews for this place but for me PERSONALLY, I have never had an issue here. They seem to have beter availability and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I know what to expect budget wise and that makes the biggest difference. I would recommend them to anyone.
Propane was down. Watched me unload all my tanks and then told me it was down. Cheap prices. Bad customer service
While the staff have been very helpful each time I have come here, they always seem short staffed and have had trouble finding premade reservations on more than one occassion.
Been here multiple times and was always fast. You tell them what you need, you inspect truck, sign some papers and your off. Trucks were always clean and dependable. The store is always clean. The only thing I dont like which is really bad is when you call Uhaul they answer through a call center. The people here are not local and act like they could care less about what you need. They can be rude and unhelpful. I understand why they use call center, because the people at the local places would be overrun by calls. Besides bad customer service at call centers Uhaul on Box Rd. is a good location.

Rented a car trailer here less than a year ago to tow a vehicle from Tuscaloosa AL back to Columbus. Was just refused the ability to rent the trailer to tow the same vehicle with the same truck and hitch from Cusseta into Columbus. Crazy! Go somewhere else!

I have to start out by saying Ive never complained in a review like Im about to, but this place was terrible. Just awful. We arrived from Houston, Tx to get a hitch installed. We ordered the hitch 2 weeks earlier and scheduled install. We received email confirmation that everything was ready to go. We get there and they tell us yep, weve got ya on the schedule. But we dont have the hitch. Probably gonna be 2-3 days. Did I mention we came from Texas?! We were trying to help our boss and tow a jet ski back home for him. Well, we spent the next 4 hrs trying to locate a hitch, and find one at an Atlanta U-haul. We went back to this guy to see if hed help get it to Columbus and installed. That ended with him telling my husband to go f@&; yourself after we told him he needed to work on his customer service. Wow. Total jerk, completely unwilling to help us out of the bind he got us in. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Been using this place for 5 years (4 truck rentals, 3 storage units, trailer hitch install) because its the most convenient location for me, but the customer service sucks. My stuff never got stolen, so theyve got that going for them at least.
I NEVER write reviews. On ANYTHING. But dealing with this location has by far been the most ineffective, inefficient, and stressful experience Ive ever had with a UHaul establishment or any business for that matter. As a result of my experience, I will never, ever do business with another UHaul. On May 20, I went to UHaul for the purpose of renting a pickup truck in order to move a footlocker that wouldnt fit in my compact car from a personal residence. The residence was less than 5 miles from the UHaul store. I rented the truck and was also offered one month free to rent a storage unit. I agreed to it so that I wouldnt have to drive the pickup truck to my home (about 2 hours away from this location) and then bring it back same day since I couldnt do a pickup truck dropoff in my current hometown. My truck rental was returned quickly and I had it back to the store in probably about 40 minutes. Easy peasy, right?Well, fast forward to June, the day before my free storage month was up. My partner and I drove back to Columbus in his car to pick up my footlocker and bring it to our home. I arrived at the UHaul location, removed my footlocker and even turned in the free lock I was given to the front office. The gentleman working that day mentioned that he needed to check my locker to make sure it was empty so I waited in the front office for him and he gave me the all clear when he came back. We even joked about making sure there was no body in there. I asked if I needed any documentation and he told me no. I owed NO money...because I cleared my locker before my contract would have renewed. So fast forward again and since that day, I have been emailed and snail-mailed MULTIPLE invoices stating that I owe money to this location. Ive spoken to several contacts in customer service (because the number for this location always bounces to customer service and nobody actually answers the phone at Box Rd.), Ive left multiple messages for the GM at this location, Ryan Mobley, through customer service as well in an attempt to resolve this issue...only to have a grand total of ZERO of my calls returned. In speaking with the customer services reps, Ive been told numerous times (and was even sent an email from a rep) letting me know that my dispute claim issue was resolved and I dont owe the company any money. However, last week I was sent a certified letter and my emergency contact WHY?!!) was sent a certified letter continuing to threaten property liens, late rent, and additional late rent fees. When I tell you Ive been on the phone for HOURS to resolve this issue--one phone call even had me on hold for over 40 minutes--its not an exaggeration. Im currently waiting on the phone for them now on my third call JUST THIS MORNING to them and Ive been on hold for 15 minutes and counting. Ive been fighting them longer than I even needed the storage unit. The unit has BEEN empty and to be quite honest if I didnt think this was going to cause an issue with my credit I would let it go because honestly, I dont understand how they plan to auction off or lien a storage unit full of nothing.At any rate, I would avoid this location and based on the customer service Ive received, ANY UHaul location. Save yourself the headache and get your storage and moving vehicles elsewhere.
Garbage. My rental was infested with ants and the ownership blatantly lies to corporate in order to demonstrate that he resolved the issue. This man, terry, is criminal. Do not use this place for a PCS.
They over charged me on my card. They say it was a 1/4 of a tank of gas in the truck and I drove it under a 1/4 of a tank, but it was below a quarter of a tank when I got in it. They are liars. Will never do business with them again. Sorry azz company.

If you have other alternatives, avoid using this location.Be prepared to be left high and dry if you end up dealing with these guys.Guy managing this place (terry?) is borderline racist with customer service skills of a pitbull.I reserved a 4x7ft open trailer online entered all the information they needed.We got there on time, they have gone through the information I provided once more at the counter.Then we go out to tow vehicle, 2008 Toyota 4runner so they can get the plate number and make sure were good before hitching the trailer.This is where it begins.Vehicle has factory tow package; receiver hitch and electrical wiring all original. I installed the ball mount, which I had purchased from uhaul a while back.We should be good to go but the uhaul guy inspecting starts asking for the owners manual b/c he claims he cant verify tow rating of the setup.I told him the rating for 4runner was 5000lbs and I had rented many different sizes of trailers from uhaul in the past with no problems.When I told them to check my account so they can see my previous trailer rentals, they lied by saying they dont keep that information.I also told them that their site lists all the trailers I can tow with my vehicle, including 6x12 enclosed ones, and 4x7ft is the smallest of the trailers but they would not budge.I have seen 4-door Saturns pulling this size trailers in the past.At the end, they refused to rent me the 4x7ft trailer I reserved to tow with my 4runner.I dont think they are technically incompetent hicks so much so to refuse an SUV this size with original factory tow equipment.I do, however, believe that they think they can discriminate and deny service to anyone they wish.I called in to uhaul customer service to let them know about the incident.Not surprisingly, customer service agent claimed they cant do anything about it.The reason?Their technicians are the ones who are going to be determining whether it is safe to tow with a particular vehicle or not.I asked him if he can see that I had rented from them before, he said yes he can see 12 times I rented trailers from them with the same towing vehicle.Finally I said, I can take it to another location and get it inspected and I am sure it will pass.That way uhaul corp will know about box rd personnels antiques and thus get them take some customer service training they desperately need.This is not an independent uhaul franchise I remind you.Answer from uhaul customer service was essentially they are not concerned how customers are treated and they will not take customer complaints in to account.There you have it.

I called to let uhaul know that there was a glitch with their system. Jessica was not very helpful and acted like she didnt want to help me. She informed me that she could do the same thing I could do online.
Worst costumer service of all time. They keep charging me for a U-Box that I am not renting. Extremely rude and lazy. Terrible management and employees.

These people are horrible. Needed a truck and a family member had talked to Ryan the manager previously. When calling to try to book the truck, I kept getting people in calls center lying and saying they were at the location of the trucks. You could tell they werent there and were reading from a script, then when I asked for the manager I got transferred to Arizona.I called the phone number that was on the managers business card he gave out and got a guy who sounded like he just rolled out of bed at 11am and saying it was his personal phone. He acted offended and confused why I called his personal phone to book a truck and then said he would have a guy call me back from the office which never happened.Their loss cause I booked Penske now. Their horrible service cost them a sale!
I came in to get a 10 or 17 moving van, The general manager Terry Jackson told me that they had nothing but cargo vans, after serving two other couples in front of me trucks. Thinking ok maybe the trucks i see are just not up to par to ride of the lot. After going to three more places, two of the three places told us to go back to box rd. The third place we went to had to make our reservation and then told us that he is the MANAGER and is very LAZY . After driving all over the world, we had to come back. Terry Jackson knew he had trucks all along.
