The restaurant has a unique vibe. A mix between a 50s diner and an upscale bistro in a city. I had their version of a rum runner and it was really good. For dinner I had the chicken pot pie. But it has a twist, it’s not a pie at all. It was uh-making. Also there was an order of spicy chicken rigatoni. I’ve never tried anything like it but I loved it. They have a really creative menu. I’m sad that I live so far away because this would definitely be put on my normal rotation.
Wanted to try something different while in Columbus with mom and we both loved the food! The dessert was amazing also. The staff is very friendly and the place overall was hands down gorgeous! Food is very pricey, but well worth it. Would recommend to anybody and will definitely be stopping by again if I am the Columbus area.
The food was so good. We got the blue cheese chips which so delicious. Then we got Mac n cheese for the kids which they loved. I got the spinach apple salad with chicken. My husband got the pecan crusted pork chops which was good but the portion was so large. 2 ppl could have shared his entree. Overall food and service was good. Will recommend for families.
This is my first experience at Cap City, and it was DELICIOUS!! I had the meatloaf, and it was awesome. My friend and I split a piece of the chocolate cake, and they kindly served it on two plates. The photo is of the two halves!!! Best chocolate cake I think I’ve ever had. Great waitress and comfortable place to be.
Being from the east coast I shy away from “diners” having had my fair share of late night meals of any regrettable variety, but I finally came to this local favorite. Well first off, it’s pretty indulgent, so come here for comfort food and little more! Plenty of their dishes have a sweet kick, and or a big savory presence, and food comes fast and in great portion. It’s definitely a very nice diner as far as diners go.
Food wasn’t that good.... Order the 20.00 meatloaf and was happy to pay that much if it was worth it. No onions no bell peppers no ketchup no gravy but barbecue sauce. Mash potatoes was instant potatoes. I’ll save my coins for crackle barrel. Food just wasn’t good to me. The house was packed so maybe this is the best OHIO has to offer🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

The food is good but not worth the $20+ per plate. The portions are big, though. The chocolate cake definitely came from a box in their freezer but it was still decent. The staff works hard and they are very friendly. Kinda cool atmosphere. Dinner for 2, 2 drinks, 2 desserts came to $80+. Probably wont be back for that price any time soon. There are better places to eat for that much money.

Home style comfort food. Very large portions and quite flavorful. Attentive staff and reasonable prices. It gets crowded so plan in advance (the good places always are)
The perfect lunch spot. I only say that because Ive only ever been there for lunch since its close to my office and I live far outside town. I can only believe its a great dinner spot as well. I like to try something new off the menu every place I go more than once. More often than not I get burned by that mindset, sadly. My fault for liking variety in life, I suppose. Not at Cap City though, every time I get something different, it becomes my new favorite dish. The one constant, because I love blue cheese, is their blue cheese salad. Its amazing. At my last visit I got the walleye blue plate special (pictured) and I couldnt have been happier. Cap City will continue to be one of my go to spots.
My Cracker Crusted Walleye and Asparagus with mash potatoes was delicious and for dessert chocolate covered peanut butter pie. Was the Best! I love chocolate and peanut butter together and this pie was so delicious!
This place is amazing. It has been spectacular every time Ive come. Excellent service. Really friendly people work here. And the food and their attention to allergies is off the charts fantastic. I cannot recommend it highly enough. And they have dishes that you normally just cannot get gluten free. Like a cheese steak sandwich and beer battered fish and chips. Love love love it here! And they are very careful with allergies. When you come at dinner they even have dinner rolls that are gluten free. Today I came on a Sunday afternoon and they had fresh hot delicious cinnamon rolls. This place is the best. Wish I didnt live an hour and a half away.
This restaurant participated in the Restaurant Week and we ordered two meals from that menu. The meatloaf was okay, mashed potatoes were bland. The crispy chicken was good, but the pasta had no flavor. It was very busy, as usual, but my God, we had to wait for everything. Our server was working hard, but oh, so slow. It took us longer to get our bill and pay than it did for us to get seated. At $25/ person, it wasn’t worth it. If we had just ordered off the menu, the bill would have been about $4 more/ meal. Not much of a savings. I feel like the place has gone downhill over the past three years. I doubt I’ll be back.

We are in Columbus for a procedure at The James. We havent been inside a dining establishment in fourteen months, and now that we are fully vaccinated, we decided to take a slow plunge back into the real world (safely, of course.) We chose Cap City to be our first dining experience in over a year and we were NOT disappointed. Our server, Vanessa, was amazing and understood our trepidation about being out in the World. Every course of our dinner was amazing from the appetizers to dessert, and the cocktails were delicious and so were the specialty non-alcoholic drinks. Everything arrived super fast and fresh and we wanted for nothing during our visit. the bill was reasonable and we left happy, super full, and beyond pleased with our first pandemic dining experience.

The service was phenomenal (shout-out to Hannah!), the food was amazing, and my husband was particularly impressed with the music selection. We appreciated that the menu isnt so huge it doesnt take forever to make a decision. The kids menu was awesome, food variety of more than standard fair chicken tenders, hot dog, etc.
Weve visited multiple times and from beginning to end our experience is always mediocre. Food does nothing much to impress. Expect more than weve ever experienced. Even the cheeseburgers and brownie sundae left much to be desired.
Highly recommend this place. Our group got the meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, triple decker grill cheese and a salad and everyone said it was about the best weve had. Ill be back the next time Im in Columbus.

I’ve dined here plenty but today we just visited the bar on a Sunday. We wanted a little off the menu ideas for cocktails for a mid afternoon drink. Our bartender was gracious and alerted us to a new drink not on the menu yet. It, and she were both wonderful. I hope she’s paid well because my experience and your business was built on her.
The service was great. The place is very reminiscent of an old diner. If youre looking for a really tasty 15 dollar cheeseburger, this is the place for you.

This was our first time to dine here and was impressed by the service and the food. The fish and chips were terrific! The salmon was divine! The coleslaw was the best I have had in a sit down restaurant here in the Columbus area. The chocolate covered peanut butter pie is to die for. Will be back to get another slice!
Been here 3 times now and loved this place each of them! They have a great gluten free menu. The steak was juicy and tender as were the vegetables. They have a creme brulee with strawberries and whip cream especially for people that dont eat gluten. Its absolutely delicious. The bar tender was great, knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. Definitely a 5/5 experience.
Always a pleasure. Consistently good food at a fair price. Management keeps a well trained wait staff and chefs. Try to save room for the seasonal strawberry shortcake and peach desserts.
Always very good. Was a little disappointed that they dont have all the usual Desserts, but the Creme Brulee was Amazing!! 🤩 Our server; while she was able to meet our needs, I didnt get that super comfortable feeling that I seek. Maybe a bad day, but you could feel her negative energy. Yikes! Otherwise, the Pecan crusted pork chop, with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach with onions and tomatoes hit the spot. Well worth the 45 minute drive.
Such a great menu and I appreciate the Gluten Free menu. They also encourage you to ask about any menu item they may be able to make gluten free. The shrimp cocktail is amazing with the best Louie sauce.

Food was great! We sat on the patio for brunch. The service was a little slower than expected to get drinks, but the food came out quickly and our server was nice. The spinach quiche was fantastic! Id definitely recommend it.
Seemed like a nice place. Sat at the bar because table and booth seating was being reserved for reserved business meetings. Bartender was nice. The whole restaurant smelled like sewer water from the moment we walked in. Kinda gross and did not set a good first impression. Ordered the lunch trio but only the soup and salad came out. Expensive entre and drink prices aimed to the corporate expense accounts and upscale dining. Would go if someone wanted to meet there but not sure I would go on my own as a first choice in the area.
Cap City Diner located at 1299 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43212. I Recently stayed at The Varsity Inn on Olentangy River Rd. Made the mistake of going to an establishment next door for dinner, needless to say it was horrible, sat on my stomach like a brick. A friend of mine recommended The Cap City Dinner. Went there for lunch the next day, I placed an order an order to go, the hostess was very kind and suggested that I take a look around. She said they had just completed renovations top to bottom. I must say I was throughly impressed. Went back to my room and the food was just as impressive. I had the Romano Crusted Chicken, - crispy fried chicken, garlic buttered noodles, roasted tomato cream sauce, to sum it up in one word - superb. Its a little pricey but worth every penny. Next time Im in Columbus, I will be returning.
I love Cap City and is one of my favorite places to eat in Columbus. Always love the atmosphere especially the Gahanna location. Food is always amazing as well as the service. The pretzel rocks for an appetizer.

A group of fifteen or so of us from the Stonewall [Columbus] Trailblazers, a community of LGBGTQ+ adults who are fifty or older, met for lunch recently [8-19-2021] at the Cap City Diner.The atmosphere [in terms of room design, lighting, and room decorations] had been superb; the service had been friendly, efficient, and helpful; the food had been absolutely delicious.The restaurant opened that day at 11:30 a.m.; within fifteen minutes or so, the dining room had been filled with people who had been there to eat their lunches.It had been greatly helpful for me to be able to study the menu on-line before arriving at Cap City Diner because it has been becoming increasingly difficult for my eyes to be able to focus on menus in low-lighting situations.I ordered and ate Balsamic Chicken [$15.99]: pan-seared chicken breast, chive mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers, caramelized mushrooms and onions, and lemon chicken jus. Our meals had been brought to our table approximately ten minutes after we had ordered them.The Stonewall Trailblazers spent two hours or so seated around our large table in that crowded dining room, sharing memories and other information with each other, before adjourning and moving on to the rest of that days activities.Ever since the building where the Cap City Diner is located had opened [in 1960] [and had been known at that time as the Olentangy Inn], I have been intrigued by the sagging roof at the northeast corner of that building.It had been quite fun, before leaving the Cap City Diner after my meal, to view the northeast corner of that roof from only a few feet away and to be taller than that roof.The building where the Cap City Diner is located is definitely one of the important landmarks in the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood of Columbus. In addition, I recommend that restaurant if you are looking for a delicious meal.
I was in a group of 7 meeting to discuss our class reunion. The waiter, (whose name I have forgotten, sorry) was very polite and patient with us as we all filed in 1 at a time. The cinnamon rolls were delicious, the food great and atmosphere pleasant. Ill definitely go back again with my wife.

After 14 months of pandemic we finally decided to sit down for dinner and chose Cap City. Our server, Vanessa, was exemplary, easing our anxiety, offering excellent suggestions and was quick and attentive. Everything was very good, from cocktails, to appetizers, entrees and desserts. Particular standouts were the Southside, a very pleasant gin cocktail that used mint and blueberry to ease the bite of the gin without any excessive sweetness, resulting in a wonderfully refreshing drink, and the hot and sour calamari, which came out amazingly fast, had a wonderful mix of flavors and featured extremely fresh, crispy vegetables. This was our first visit, but certainly wont be our last.
Good place for a little something for everyone . They have some really cool special items they put a great twist on, blue cheese potato chip starter, for one. Every thing here is done well, all four of us that ate here were very satisfied. The desserts look fabulous, but we just didnt have the room. Good for family, friends, or a date.

The food was okay, typical diner food. The real winner here was our outstanding server, Susanna! My husband and I agreed she was the most helpful server weve ever had anywhere! She not only made menu suggestions based on our dietary needs, but she gave us great ideas for things to do in the area. She rocks!

Service was good but my friend never got her dessert and my bellini was just a blood orange mimosa. I gave it 4 stars because my calamari and apple salad was really good.

Portion sizes are large, flavor is even bigger. We enjoyed the blue cheese chips, meatloaf, and especially the balsamic chicken. Afterwards we took a 24K cake to go. Thank you for a wonderful meal and fun atmosphere. Really enjoyed the 80s music.Only noteworthy issue was the shrieking sound of the kitchen door when opened by staff. It really bothered one of my dinner guest as he described it, it sounded like a pterodactyl swooping was swooping in to devour him. Not my concern I had a great experience, but for his sanity (which we know is gone, because dinosaurs are extinct) please oil the hinges to stop the squeal.
This is a great place to take out of town visitors for a little taste of Columbus. The ambiance is awesome especially since the recent remodel- like being in a diner car but still comfy and classy inside. They don’t have a ton of vegetarian options which is a bummer for me, however their veggie platter is so good I get it every time & can’t complain. They have the biggest slices of cake I’ve ever seen and amazing milkshakes!

I ordered food gluten free and they served me food with gluten noodles in it like it was transferred from another utensil. My order was with rice. It made me very sick. I was assured someone from corporate would contact me and they would address their staff and comp my meal, but it doesn’t do much when you’ve already eaten it. I would have much rather paid and not been sick. It’s been over a month and no one has contacted me. I would be cautious if you have food allergies.
Absolutely wonderful service today, I felt obligated to leave a good tip. Please try their milkshakes, theyre to-die-for! Am definitely going to make this place a staple eatery for my spouse and I. And to the staff, keep up the great work, it isnt unnoticed :)
