The stress of this home purchase has been nothing short of awful. A nightmare really. I do not recommend anyone to go to Clayton homes in Columbia. We started this process 7 months ago and were told we would be moved in by then1st week in June at the latest. Our apartment lease is up July 29th and our rent will go up $1200 (yes thats correct it will go from $1200 a month to $2400) if we stay here. Clayton had promised us to be moved in by July 29th. Well its June 22nd and Clayton hasnt even submitted the proper documentation to the city to obtain the building permit. They also havent made an effort to even get the proper documentation. Nothing can be done at our lot until the building permit is approved. Clayton has literally taken everything from us. They have taken our savings (down payment) and we will soon be homeless with no place to go until the house is ready and who knows when that will be. So every day we wake up and stress over how much money and time we have put into this to just be brushed to the side by Clayton and their negligence. My husband has missed close to 60 hrs of work following up on what Clayton is supposed to do. He has literally done there job for them while they sit on facebook and post pictures in sunglasses instead of being on the phone or computer trying to get what is needed for out building permit and neglecting others stuff too I am sure. The reviews show we are not the only ones dealing with this. Just a fair warning if you are considering Clayton homes of Columbia DONT DO IT!!!!!! I BEG YOU!!!! DONT DO IT!!!! If I can save 1 person the trouble we are going through I will feel better. We are stuck and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. If everyone can say a prayer for us or send us good vibes whatever is your thing. We can definitely use them right now.
Following up from my previous entry. On June 17th I spoke with Ben at Clayton by phone, letting him know that a friend of mine who works for the city had heard that our building permit may have been approved. I asked him to call the person in charge of codes to confirm because I wasnt 100% sure that information was accurate, as Greg and the dirt guy had just met with the the codes enforcement person and the codes enforcement person had called to let me know that he had told Greg and the dirt guy they could start the dirt work but not start construction until the survey information was corrected and completed, and the permit approved. Today, June 22nd I stopped by Clayton on my way home as I have had to do every few days throughout this whole process. I was stopping to see if Ben had followed up on the permit. He assumed that the permit was approved, instead of following up with the city like I asked. He had at some point told Greg that I told him (Ben) that it was approved, which is not at all what I said. Needless to say, Clayton made no effort Friday or yesterday to get the documents corrected. This is in no way surprising at this point, this has been the theme since January when I first applied for my loan. Getting these guys to do the job that you are paying them to do is near impossible. Getting them to give you a firm, accurate answer is near impossible. Getting them to return your call equally impossible. So here I am 5 weeks from my lease expiring, the city still waiting on Clayton and their surveyor to do their jobs, the dirt guy waiting on the same thing, the citys public works department waiting on the same thing. Hopefully Greg stands by his word and pays my rent when he doesnt have my home completed by July 29th.There are so many other things that I cant think of off the top of my head. Two things that stick out are 1.) When Greg told my wife and I that even if we dont have power or water by July 29th, the home would be set up and my wife and I could stay there. In August, in Tennessee, no power or water. Apparently that is acceptable to Clayton Homes. 2.) The second should have been a sign. I should have walked out and never looked back. My wife and I got a letter from our apartment complex stating that our lease was going to expire in 60 days. We went to Clayton to show this to Greg, maybe to reinforce the urgency to complete this deal. Greg was in his office with the door closed, we waited, when Greg came out to talk to us at 12:30 he said he had to take a test to renew his license and the deadline was 12:00. I saw the irony for sure, my wife and I joked about he cant even take the test to maintain his license and therefore his job on time. Looking back, like I said that should have been our sign. Unfortunately that didnt do it for us.I am doing my best to reach out to the corporate office to find a resolution. If you read the previous reviews here or read their BBB reviews and ratings, it should be more than obvious that this is not a one off incident but rather a recurring theme. Other reviews cast a shadow on Bill, however I can attest that this is at least a store wide issue in Columbia, TN. Hopefully corporate is willing to step in and help in some way.As of now my best advice is as I said in the beginning of this review (previous review), avoid this store at all costs. This seems to be an ongoing theme, previous reviews and Claytons reply to those reviews has not led to any improvements. Even stopping in every few days to push them along, missing work to do their job for them, making calls and gathering information for them, none of this is enough to make them reach their own deadlines. Throughout this process Ive learned how to find tax records, tax maps, middle manned between my realtor and Clayton because they dont respond to the realtor, middle manned between VMF and Clayton for the same reason. Found out that they regularly send people to closing with checks made out to the wrong person.Ill say it again. Avoid this business like the plague.
This place was amazing to do business with!! The teammates there are super knowledgeable about the homes on the lot and I can’t say enough good things about the customer service. My husband and I worked one on one with Stuart and he took such great care of us! My hubby, our new twins and I are so excited about our new space!
1 star only because the system forced me to. I give 0 stars. My disabled veteran spouse & I purchased a structure from Clayton homes of Columbia, TN less than 4 years ago. I use the word structure because you cant call it a home. The lies began during the sales process when they assured us that Clayton homes were built at the same quality as a stick built home. This is not the case. The construction is abysmal.Starting w/ the delivery of the home. The trailer hauling it blew a tire in route to the property, blowing a large hole through the bed room end of the structure. Clayton let this hole sit for over 6 months, allowing moisture & other wildlife into the structure. When they finally repaired it they assured us that this would not negatively impact the integrity of the construction. This turned out to be false. The driveway & lot construction is subpar. Clayton failed to grade the driveway or the lot to divert water away from the structure. They didnt make the lot level. Its so uneven that the exterior doors do not close. This wreaks havoc on our utility bills & allows rain water & insects to inter the structure. This also causes a safety concern as you cannot close & lock the doors adequately. This unevenness causes the foundation to fail. Our blocks are cracking & failing all around the perimeter of the structure.Clayton up-sold us on several upgrades such as upgraded appliances, energy efficient package, upgraded siding, and upgraded bathroom packages. The upgraded siding package they up-sold us is already falling off the exterior. The upgraded appliances package were defective. The dishwasher has had to be replaced twice, the stove takes an hour to preheat as heat escapes the top, and the refrigerator is on its way out. The energy efficiency is also non existent as heat & air go out the leaking windows & doors. All of the windows leak. This allows constant mold growth in the window seals no matter how many times we clean it. The odor is atrocious. The dry wall is cracked. They sent a crew out to fix this but they slapped a layer of plaster on it & made it worse. The walls are cracked in multiple places. The crown molding is falling off. The sub floors are creaking & already rotting away. The cabinets are already falling apart. The cabinet doors are made with sticker like material that peel & dissolve if you clean them. The set up crew left nails poking out in several cabinets. This creates a safety hazard to put away supplies dishes, linens, etc.Structural repairs, driveway repair, appliance replacement, professional mold solutions, etc have all come out of our pocket. We are clean, tidy, and attentive homeowners. There is no reason all of these things should be happening to a home less than 4 years old.The bathrooms are built w/ toxic, mold loving materials. There is mold growing behind every tub & shower liner. The structure & its windows leaks making mold growth in every single room. Our family consists of a premature child born w/ breathing issues, a disabled veteran & 2 family members w/ autoimmune disease & allergies to mold. This has caused us health issues. The structure is dangerous to bathe & sleep in.They charged us 6 figures for this! They have causes our family financial strain, physical & emotional distress. When we reached out to Clayton to either buy the home back, to refund, or replace it for one that was not wrecked in delivery, they refused. We contacted both the main office and the sales location where we purchased the structure. Neither party was willing to make this right.Weve read the other reviews of customers w/ similar issues. We see that Clayton blames homeowners. We have cleaned mold w/ harsh professional cleaners, we have paid for appliance replacement, we have paid for repairs out of our pocket. This is clearly a case of being sold a defective product. Clayton has gotten away with this for too long & is time for them to be held accountable. Our hope is that through review forums such as this one, we can stop this from happening to another family.
Not much to choose from and the layouts are not good to me
The man who works here named Nick is amazing. He has helped us make this a more enjoyable experience buying a place from him. I love the fact that he goes all in to help us find a piece of land so that we can set our mobile home on it. I would definitely shop here again
Good selection of mobile homes! Great customer service!
Very nice people I would recommend goin to the Columbia tn locatiom
Very rude and not helpful at the dickion loction so much more kind and helpful with understanding there opinion
Sales people are pleasant initially but offer inaccurate information. Lack thorough knowledge of product. The owner Greg was incredibly rude when I called and raised concerns. He basically told me off and hung up on me because I was adamant about understanding my loan and determining an accurate ETA on home delivery. We were also mis informed by Bill our sales rep, that by putting a down payment down ($1000), that we would be put on a waiting list for the home. Apparently he lied to us and this is not true. You are put on list ONLY when you sign papers. So im still not sure where that money went or what it was for if not to start the process. We were also told 3 months turn around on delivery and are now AFTER signing being told 5 months. We also noticed discrepancies on the loan where escrowed insurance money was added twice. To be frank, avoid clayton homes of columbia.I know you are reading this BILL... Enjoy that commission, you hardly deserve it.Update: amazing when you do things yourself you get answers. After speaking with clayton homes credit division we determined that the escrowed insurance money was for two years and not one hence the “double” charge. Thanks for explaining that Greg, your unprofessional behavior prevented you from even getting to that part of my questions. Now I need to figure out why we put a downpayment down on two separate occasions as I dont believe that is standard practice. We were told that it would ensure our place in line which today I was told I was a liar by Greg the owner and that this was not the case.I will update this post every step of the way, publicly, until we are in our home and the first payment is made. I will maintain transparency throughout the entire process.Update:BILL has requested that I am no longer involved in the purchase of my own home, yet doesn’t seem to have qualms with taking my money. If not for the love of my wife I would have told him to kick rocks however we have been trying to get into a home for years and due to red tape with the city this has been a long time coming. Since I am not a prideful toddler like GREG I am forgoing my strong desire to scuttle this entire deal.We requested to meet with consumer advocacy in effort to file complaint on this particular clayton homes dealer. We are still in communication with BILL WILSON and he is still fumbling his way through, consistently forgetting our choices, and confusing the product. We know what we want and have educated ourselves enough to consistently correct him. Today for example he said we did not convey the carpet choice, but surprise! We actually did, on more than one occasion. We saw him write it down on the day if the closing, not sure why or what happened to that paper with our carpet choice, but BILL needlessly went through the motions so we could correct him afterwards. So were going to get an entire list together (something he should have done in the beginning and before we signed) so his incompetence doesn’t result in us getting an incorrect home delivered further solidifying the grand flub that is Bill Wilson, Mobile home extraordinaire!Update:Still waiting to hear from Consumer Advocacy Program in regards to our dealings with Columbia Clayton homes. They have been slow to get in touch with us which is just exacerbating the issue further. We also have concerns of VOC’s released from the vinyl floors. No one has been able to provide good information in regards to safety of the product. We had to inform BILL that linoleum and vinyl, despite his insistence are NOT the same thing what so ever (outside the fact that they are both flooring). Once again displaying lack of thorough knowledge of products that he is responsible for selling. We also determined that the financial department of clayton homes made a mistake and were charging us an extra $200 a month on our payment. Its good that WE are paying attention! At this point Im seriously wondering why I am even going through with this.Final Update:After much consideration and wasted patients, we decided to cancel our loan.
Orrin was a great salesman, only thing they could have done differently was appeal to a more affluent demographic. otherwise, Im sure its great for the average mobile home buyer
No high pressure sales tactics!
Helpful salesman. Nice inventory.
Helpful staff . good selection
Nice place but staff wasnt very helpful
We initially picked Clayton Homes because we heard they have wheelchair accessible door ways and floors and it would be easy to customize for my medical needs. However after contacting the Columbia TN store by phone I understand completely why this place has such low stars on their online review. I called the Columbia store because it is the closest store to the place I currently reside. I called not knowing anything about modular/manufactured homes and was needing information as we WERE looking into trying to make informed decisions about our housing options. I asked for sale and finance and the lady (Rebecca) said she could help. I did my best trying to explain my family situation and what information I needed from her. She kept putting me off and on speaker phone where there were men talking in the back so loud I couldnt hear anything on speaker phone and told her that as well. She seemed much more concerned about getting an application to me so she could answer my questions but as a customer and someone that has dealt with sales I knew (by the conversation we were already having) that this would be her back up on how she thought she could treat me as in how she thought she could speak and treat me as a financial class. My financial situation should not have to come into account when I am asking simple start up questions to establish what kind of company I am trying to decide if I want to use. I kept asking questions and trying to word them in a different way thinking that I wasnt articulating my questions correctly. That was not the case. This lady was very unhelpful and seemed not to want to help me at all. I told her I would possibly have my husband call back if we still were considering using this company or not. She then wanted to send me an application again and get my phone number. I told her it wan nit needed because i am 99 percent sure we WIL NOT use this company after this interaction. After talking to my husband about this I decided to write I review about my experience in hopes they learn not to talk down to potential customers. My husband and I have decided we will NOT use clayton homes as even a consideration in our housing options. I hope that this rewiew saves someone else the frusteration and rude non existing customer service and skips calling this company and wasting their time. I will be sharing my opinion on every platform as to save someone else from this interaction. Clayton homes this was a missed sales opportunity and very bad customer service. I believe in helping people without pulling financial information just to give answers. Shame on you Clayton Homes in Columbia and shame on you Rebecca for being rude and unhelpful. We are hopeful everyone that reads this review, potentially reaches the decision to forgo the rude conversation and takes their business elsewhere.
