Love this place. I am a leader and love working with the girls. Was picking up cookies today.
Im sad to read the one-star reviews .Girl Scouts is a volunteer organization. If every parent gave just a little time and a lot of encouragement, they would see how their daughters grow in courage, confidence, and leadership. I volunteered with my older daughters troop in every way possible - even though she was the oldest of 4 children and I worked full time. Then, when my younger daughter started kindergarten, I led her troop and continued to do so for 7 years, until we moved to Ohio. My daughter joined an established troop, and while they already had leaders, I continue to give my time and full support. I know that everyone has their own unique situation and gives to their level of comfort. But if youre not part of the solution then youre part of the problem so make it better in any way that you can!
Very nice ladies there willing to help. Great organization.
Although this portion appears to be related specifically to the shop, many reviews seem to be reflective of the entire organization, so I will just follow suit. GSWO does a great job of providing support to their volunteer-led troops. I am a troop leader and I dont get paid to do what I do, but I am rewarded by the experiences I get to provide and enjoy with my girls. They are learning Science and Technology with immersive experiences and growing in their confidence and leadership with the activities I plan. If you feel council does not provide you with enough support, call their 1800 number and seek out your community engagement manager. They are very helpful and responsive. If you dont tell them you need something, they dont know. The products and supplies purchased directly from council or national are pricey, but this money goes back to the organization, and Girl Scout policy clearly notes that none of this is absolutely necessary or required. My troop took several field trips last year and did many exciting things, which in total for the year costed each participant no more than $100 over the entire year... and our girls had decorated vests. If youre unhappy with the cost of your troop, volunteer to be the troop treasurer. Us volunteers can use all the help we can get! I love this organization!
I was just looking at how much the council collect from the cookie sell and did not realize that the troops work very hard at selling cookies and they only receive a small percentage. Then the girls who can afford to pay a register fee of $25, Majority of the events girls have to pay and to attend camp it cost a lot. I am really concern about this, because our troop really enjoy selling cookies. Our troop does not make enough to send 1 girl to camp. You would like to reward the girls by taking them to maybe two events. What our troop will receive from the cookie sale is unbelievable. I am hoping there can be an increase of percentage of what the troop receive after selling all these cookies. If you could see the look on their faces when they sell cookies. Then every girl is not rewarded.
Great organization. Abit expensive. But great for making life long friends. Etiquette,CPR,and crafts. The outings are fun.
Always amazing! So helpful.
I would give it fewer stars if it were possible. I have tried for 2 years to get my daughter into a viable troop, and NO ONE Will respond to my emails! Very frustrated.
What is wrong with the Girl Scouts and their pushing unhealthy foods? With female obesity at all time high is, why?!
Very quiet but kind people
Extremely disorganized and run very unprofessionally..such a shame because it could be such a neat place for girls and is soo needed. They never have enough leaders to run troops too. :(
