Having family in Iceland, I was absolutely delighted to hear that one of Chicos newest restaurants was heavily inspired by the national cuisine. From my experience, food has always been good and portions extremely generous, while retaining a price level which is unbeatable in a competitive college environment. Their Icelandic Pancakes taste exactly like the real thing, and their meats are always perfectly cooked.

I ordered the Basque omelette. It was very dry and tough, and the “chorizo” resembled the sausage meat that comes from pigs in a blanket. It was NOT chorizo at all.I also ordered the Blintzes with fresh berries. The crepe part was so decadent and melt-in-your mouth delicious as was the raspberry sauce they had with it, but the ricotta cheese that was folded into the blintze had a scrambled, chunky egg kind of texture, almost like they blended the ricotta cheese and instead of the normal texture that ricotta cheese has, I was eating a dry and blended mixture of rough and crumbly cheese. It gave the overall crepe an unpleasant and distasteful texture. Then we got in a second order and they sent in burnt pancakes and burnt potatoes. It’s a little worse because whoever sent this out knew they had burnt the pancake and put it under the first one, same with the burnt potatoes.

Service was quick, friendly and helpful. Granted it was a slow day. We ordered the blintzes and Santa Fe Benedict. The Benedict was good, the blintzes were okay. Definitely enjoyed the large portion of fruit with the blintzes as well as the batter/crepe bit. I felt like the cheesy blintze filling could use some work. Will be back to try some more items. Will not be ordering the blintzes again. I typically enjoy blintzes. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience.

I had been meaning to try this place since it appeared a little while ago. Very happy I did! I little preface, though - I just got back from Italy and am once again accustomed to the waitstaff leaving you alone (for the most part) during the duration of your meal. While the food here was fantastic, from the exquisite french toast with berries to the Greek omelet, the service needs just a few tweaks. In the first 3 minutes of us sitting down, three different people asked us if wed like to order drinks. Throughout the first 20 minutes, various staff came to our table to ask various things that had just been asked by other staff. So, all-in-all, great place that just needs to find the balance between excellent customer service and being overbearing and annoying. I have no doubts that they will find that balance soon.Look forward to going back and trying more tasty things on the menu!

We were expecting great food in a cute place...the place is cute but Dennys has just as good food for way less. The staff is fantastic!!!! If service is your #1 thing then come here! They were packed but we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, personable, extremely prompt and added a personal touch...that gave it that small town feel that we all love about Chico. They even set the air to cooler when we said it was kinda warm in there. The atmosphere is exactly as pictured. Very cute and clean. However, the food...it was disappointing. It was all cooked perfectly to order and thats enough for some people. But I choose locally owned places cause I want more then cooked to order. Knowing how to cook an egg properly doesnt make you special. Being that its a country style restaurant I expect and was glad that they cooked everything on my plate with butter, thank you. But there was no pepper. There was practically no seasoning at all. A tiny bit a parsley and the butter it was cooked in taste and looked to be pretty much it. I mean, toss some garlic and shallots in the pan with you fry up that steak! Offer it with some gruyere, gouda or even blue cheese on top! Wrap it in some bacon! Something! I wont even mention how thin it was, cause you can see in this pic that the handle of the knife was about as thick as the steak. Truly, we could go to Dennys and get the same plate of food for $7 less. Come on yall! Yall can be outstanding! Stop settling for just ok.It made me sad cause I really thought for sure this place was gonna become my favorite.Wish the food was as fantastic as the service! Make it so and Ill come back.

The Old Barn Kitchen could benefit from a professional consultant service. Tighten up all the loose wheels, prioritize policy and procedures. Introduce systems into employee training for consistency, standardize food prep and presentation via training of prep and cook staff etc. Then these reviews would be reflective of their full delicious and unique dining potential.Maybe hire someone whose been in the industry for over forty five years. I know a great consultant who would do all I mentioned above plus greatly reduce food cost and overhead. Making money could be so easy. Just saying...

I had to ask for normal service and then follow up when I didn’t get it. I didn’t get everything in my order and had to follow up twice. The worst part was that the eggs Benedict was way over cooked. I asked for medium. Everywhere else that means the outside is cooked but the yolk is still runny. The egg was like hard boiled. I took a picture.I gave a tip anyway and didn’t even get a thanks. This was my first time visiting the Old Barn Kitchen with a large group (8 adults) and I will never make that mistake again. The place was busy, it was prime brunch time. First we were told it would be 15-20 minutes for our table, it ended up being closer to 60. Then when we were able to sit down we were completely ignored for close to 30 minutes. We werent even served water. We asked the staff multiple times for water and our server never introduced themselves. I understand that it was busy, but a simple introduction and water was all we wanted. One of the staff members said they were going to get their manager (who never showed up), but when our server finally arrived we were about ready to leave. He didnt even acknowledge our extended wait and an apology at that time would have went a long way.I personally ordered the same menu item that Ive previously ordered (Santa Fe Benedict) and I had high hopes for the food because I loved the dish the last time I ordered it. I was expecting a great meal, and the food was just ok.

Such a disappointing experience after reading reviews! We went for lunch after the market on a Saturday and the place wasnt even 1/3 full (bad sign). The menu was perplexing in its random assembly of contrasting cuisines. We nearly left after waiting an hour to get our 2 plates, which came out incorrect, burnt, and bland. It was then that we realized why no one we saw there had eaten even half their meal. We were starving and could barely stomach half of ours. The staff were friendly, but inattentive and huddled chatting instead of working. The ambiance was pleasant aside from the insufficient lighting and the obnoxious wide screen TVs, which completely contradict the aesthetic and brand they are going for. The small metal chairs are also quite uncomfortable. Needless to say, we wont waste our time or money here again. I dont see this place lasting if they dont get their kitchen in order and make improvements.

I happened to walk by and see a sign claiming they have the best eggs benedict in town. So, I brought my friend who loves Eggs Benedict to this place. The ambiance was rustic but also extraordinarily clean and modern, a difficult feat to pull off with any level of coherence, but they did it! As for the food, we were definitely not disappointed! There were not one, not two, but three perfectly poached eggs atop perfectly toasted English muffins and succulent ham. And the creamy and slightly smokey hollandaise that topped it was simply heavenly! This may give Cafe Coda a run for its money! And they have so many variations on the classic! Ill definitely have to go back to try the others!

My girlfriend had the juevos rancheros and while they weren’t the best I’ve ever had, they still were very tasty. Well for starters have lived in Chico over 50 years. My wife has lived here all her life. We decided on this day to try a new place for breakfast/brunch. We passed Morning Thunder which had their normal “crowd” waiting outside as well as Burgers and Brew which also was very busy. Why I say this is that my first concern was that when we walked in was the lack of customers. This was about noon this past Sunday. 8 total customers not including the two of us. 30 minutes later no one had come in besides us. We did like the restaurant other than the uncomfortable chairs. Nice view. Employees friendly. Our waitress was attentive for the most part. I was in the restaurant business for aprox. 25 years so I may be a little more critical than some. Have seen many restaurants come and go and have predicted several that would not last unless they had very deep pockets. Some recent examples. Panaghettis, End zone, the omelet place across the street to name a few.Why I say this is unless changes are made Old Barn Kitchen will join the ranks of closing up shop in my opinion. Hope I’m wrong but way to many negatives. For starters I love pancakes. Not their specialty obviously. Need to take lessons from Morning Thunder or better yet, yes it’s a bit of a drive but we always give them “10” stars is Humpty Dumpty in Grass Valley. Could go on and on about them which everything is awesome there. This is about Old Barn which I had high hopes for seeing as how they started in Paradise. Back to my rating and why. Besides the pancakes being almost inedible my bacon and sausage which are obviously precooked were barely warm. I’d say cold even. My wife’s eggs were inedible. Almost like powered eggs very “rubbery”. Her potato’s were so so. Red flag indicator again was lack of customers at noon on a Sunday. We stayed about an hour and a total of 7 customers came in. Not a good sign. “Word of mouth” gets around more than any advertising. With all the negative reviews so far the future looks bleak in my opinion for this restaurant to survive. Could go on and on. I didn’t realize my review would be this long but really was hoping for another breakfast restaurant to frequent. Not, sorry.
