Cute brunch place. Soo much god food. I had the kale goat cheese scrambler which was really good. It came with options for grits or potatoes and then toast or pancakes. So many sides and options. My dad had the basic eggs and bacon. Bacon was huge, thick cut. We also tried the cinnamon roll and the horchata coffee drink, both were delicious.
I went here for the longest time prior to Covid and it seems its all new people. My order wasnt made how I asked and I received a dirty glass. I was so upset I didnt bother to touch it and asked for something else.. I also think its ridiculous to charge almost 3 dollars for a beverage that is done in almost 3 swallows. It also seems mega unsanitary to serve drinks in glasses that have a ridged lip. If you are not extra thorough it is easy to have leftover stuff not come off. I am not sure if I will return to this Location and it was once my favorite. I hate leaving bad reviews but this experience was awful
Great location, attached to the Ogilvie Train station. Bright, well lit, with lots of windows. Clean and nice decor. Good size dining area. Menu is nice sized, with some interesting options. They offer gluten free, but cannot promise no cross contamination, so there is no separate gluten free area. Portions were nice sized, hot and very good. All in all, a very good breakfast.
Great Service First Time Going There This Morning Food Is Fantastic The Hubby Took Me Here For My Bday Breakfast I Loved It I Couldn’t Finish The Food
It was good, but nothing like Texas brunch
The food here is fantastic and it has a nice homemade taste to it. I came on a Saturday so it was quite packed but I had booked a reservation so when we arrived I was seated almost immediately. The service was also very friendly and nice and they recommended us some of their best dishes. Overall yolk did not disappoint and it is a great place to grab a tasty bite to eat.
Tried out this great breakfast place in the SW corner of the Metra Train Station at 500 Madison. The Yolk was really great! I had the biscuits and gravy with a scrambled egg and a few potatoes. Also at the table was a Breakfast Sandwich- with fried egg, feta, bacon, pesto sauce and cheese. Both were great. Portion size was just right . Price was average for a breakfast place so not too bad. Service quick and efficient. Got there about 9:30 am on a Sat morning. Good coffee. Place was clean and had 2-3 tables that could hold 6 or 8 people. Mostly set for tables of 4. I liked that this was easy to get to in the Station. For sure I will bring people back again!
A very hip place with an awesome playlist and a cool staff. We started with a strawberry OJ and coffee, which were both good. We ordered the all-star combo with crepes and the nutty monkey cakes (banana peanut butter chocolate chip pancakes). Both were very good and stuffed us to the gills. Oh...and the bacon was delicious! Prices were pretty good and the service was very good too. I would recommend it for breakfast.
Super creative menu! I had the Berry French Toast, and it was delicious ~a melody of a Greek yogurt/honey/granola parfait and fluffy French toast. My sister had the chicken and waffles, and she enjoyed those as well. The strawberry orange juice is a must! I will definitely return, and maybe try the Streeterville location
Visiting Yolk for the second time so decided to finally write a review! It s pretty good and food comes out in decent time. Both visits to this location I experienced great customer service--once at the counter and also at a table (my first visit was September 2019). Both times I got the skillet. Everything seems pretty fresh. My toast was a little over cooked; however, I didnt make a big deal of it since I only wanted to eat 1 slice out of the two. Also, the BlackBerry jam is great, the strawberry lemonade had a bit too much pulp for my liking, and serving size was good. I also like how its inside the transportation hub and close to other businesses. If I lived in the area, I would definitely return on a routine basis.
This is my favorite Yolk location! The food is always delicious and always consistent. All of the wait staff that I have had the pleasure of having have always been kind and great at their jobs. Yolk always has a special pancake of the month, which are usually so tasty! And their menu is diverse. Always a pleasure to eat here.
Excellent breakfast in a nice, clean environment with friendly service that goes above and beyond. Prices may seem high, but portions are large enough to share and doing so makes the prices look quite reasonable. The staff didnt bat an eye when we chose to do this and even brought us an extra plate for no additional charge. Drinks include refills and they even offered us extra refills to-go! (My cynical side wonders if that was a subtle ploy to encourage us to move along and free up a table, but they werent especially busy at the time and, honestly, even if it was, free bonus drinks are one heck of a customer-friendly way of doing that.)I will say that the 5 egg omlet was not quite as big as we expected -- I dont doubt that they use 5, but I suspect they use small eggs -- but with the potatoes and pancakes, it still proved filling enough for two people with hearty appetites. Personally, I wasnt overly impressed with the pancakes; I prefer them fluffy, and these were dense, a bit dry, and had an almost gritty texture -- but they were actually better than that description makes them sound, and I suspect this will be a matter of taste anyway.
First place I had breakfast in Chicago and I returned many times post. Each meal was hearty and satisfying (especially great in the cold weather). I loved the choice of savoury and sweet - the red velvet pancakes in particular were decadent and great value! I received particular good service from the waitress Krystyna who made me feel really at home when dining on my own, topping up my coffee and having friendly chats. I would 100% recommend eating here.
The food looked so good but then my stomach started to hurt. Just when I finish eating. I went in for red velvet crepes and sausage links. They were delicious but they were to sugary. Service was okay. But the server wouldn’t take my order because she said “you look like someone that is working here, so I didn’t want to take your order.” The place was somewhat empty. It was my first time experience but honestly I didn’t like the breakfast. I felt like the sausage links where just microwaved they were undercooked from the inside. I won’t be coming back. Sorry YOLK, you lost one of your customers.
I ordered chicken and waffles directly from the website at 11:30am for pickup, I was told the food should be ready at 11:55am. I included in the note section that I would like seasoning on my eggs fried hard with cheese. I pick up the food and head back to the office. The meal was disgusting, it had no flavor. The eggs didn’t have the seasoning like I requested. I could look past that but what I couldn’t look past was the soggy flavorless chicken, the white patches on the chicken in the picture reflect the sogginess of it. Highly disappointed as this meal was almost $20.
I celebrated my graduation today in this great place. I am glad to say that it was a marvelous evening and the venue was indeed the reason for that fruitful gathering. The stuff participated in a splendid way, the cooking was very good and my buddies were extremely cheerful. We shall surely come back again for more events. Thank you very much.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. The food, the menu, the staff and service are awesome. Located right in Ogilvie Station it is the PERFECT place to start an adventure in the city. Standard breakfast and lunch items with some interesting variations and creations to offer. Everything is good on the menu and everyone Ive come in contact with was wonderful. How about that? Truly it
This is a great breakfast spot in the west loop that has ample seating, good service and a good amount of choices when trying to get some breakfast at any time of the day. There are a good selection of skillets, and they can even customize some of the options as per your taste. Other than that, it is fairly standard through all the locations, being a chain, but not a bad option for someone looking to get a bite to eat and in the area. Parking is a problem, so be aware of that
Yolk has cracked the code on a breakfast joint. No kidding--our food showed up 5 minutes after we put our order in, piping hot and delicious. The ambiance is very causal and utilitarian, but I dont need a fancy breakfast spot in my life.
The food was very good. I liked the menu and the wide array of options, which I was not expecting with a name like Yolk. Their house made sauce is AMAZING and you definitely have to try. The strawberry orange juice is great and I highly recommend starting with the carafe instead of individual glasses.
Great breakfast food! It was so hard to pick something from the menu everything looked so good. Waffles are perfect. The strawberry orange juice is yummy. Seating is nice and service was good. Can’t wait to go back:)
Much better service than last time. Our waitress was great! The Tuna is my favorite thing unless I get breakfast. Then its All good. The kiddos love the pancakes covered in chocolate on top of more chocolate.
Food was incredible, tasted like homemade. Killer hot sauces, and awesome coffee. Worth the somewhat hefty price. Solid service and unique, cute atmosphere. Would eat here more often if I lived closer.
Yolk has a great menu, accommodating vegetarian diets as well which was a big plus for my wife. The cinnamon roll French toast is a home run, though it was very sweet. Their house made hot sauce is great, smoky and not overly hot. The super hot one is good too, more mustard like but just a little too much for me. Even though it was a Saturday morning it wasnt too crowded and we got right in. Very good service, very clean. Clean bathrooms. Would recommend
Food was great. Severs were friendly. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait. I would definitely eat here again.
The food was great as I have come to expect, however the service was extremely slow even though it was not busy. Arrived at 7am and our server did not take our order till almost 7:30 even after attempting to get her attention. The food did not arrive for 25 minutes and then we had to rush to finish, even though the order was just a couple eggs and plain pancakes.Overall would go back again due to the quality of the food but hope that the service speed and responsiveness will be better next time.
The food & service is always good. If you want a good no frills meal this is the place. Its rarely overcrowded so little to no waiting. Dont forget to grab a chocolate covered mint (or 2) on the way out.
The food was good. Their 5 egg omelette is definitely not 5 eggs. Its more like 2 or 3 eggs at most.
Had the Loaded Baked Potato Pancakes, I will crave them for the rest of my life! The service is excellent, every staff member is friendly and attentive, and the menu is creative. Try it, you wont be disappointed.
Been going here for brunch ever since I started visiting Chicago as a tourist. Now that I live here, it’s still a top choice. Highly recommend the pot roast Benedict, but be warned, it’s a lot of food to handle. Staff is friendly and the coffee is hot- good quality breakfast joint for locals or for tourists.
Great breakfast place. Good for meetings. Quick service and delicious food. I usually do the oatmeal and OJ.
What can be better than chicken and waffles?? Chicken and waffles with bacon in the waffles. But wait! There’s more! It is served with a sunny-side up egg AND sausage gravy on the side. I opted out of the gravy, but when I reached over and tasted my husband’s, I regretted not getting the gravy. Mmmmmm
Yolk is incredibly consistent. The food is always of high quality - something like the freshness of the berries (blueberries that are huge and full of flavor) to the quality of the baked goods keeps me coming back, but the service is always top-notch as well (looking at you, Jacqueline!), with bringing drink refills before the previous glass is empty. Its the details that make the difference here, and a patron is able to notice them because Yolk gets the other stuff right.
Everything was way too rich and heavy. my scrambled eggs tasted more like cream than egg. i definitely could not eat a full meal. even though i shared 2 meals between 3 people, we couldnt finish.
Yolk is definitely my favorite breakfast place in chicago by far! Every location is the same. Great quality breakfast food. Fast friendly severs and nice clean restaurants.
Perfect, moderately priced brunch/breakfast food. Fast service, good quality food. I would recommend splitting entrees as the portions are rather large. Ive been to this location twice and visited other Yolks in Chicago. Quite busy on weekends (as per usual) so call ahead and reserve!
I went there for bunch on Saturday. It was busy. We waited for 10 minutes to get seated. Our order was taken without much delay. We ordered the chilaquillas and an omelette. Both were good. We also ordered some french toast, and that was good as well. Overall its a great place to get brunch near the West Loop.
Pretty long wait for a Friday lunch. Came with friends and Im not much into breakfast food so I opted for a lunch sandwich. It was just ok. I wont be coming back but if breakfast is really your thing then maybe. I still think there are better places in the area.
Great breakfast spot. Friendly staff. No wait time at all at 9am on a Sunday. The red velvet french toast is a must get!
Great food. Great staff. The perfect place in the loop for the power breakfast meeting.
Surprisingly easy to get a table. Excellent service, reasonable prices and good menu & food. Its on the street level of the train station, not basement.
Great spot close to Ogilvie and Union Station. Tasty omelets at Chicago prices. If travelling with luggage, there is a spot to store the bags behind the host/hostess, although it can get busy sometimes. Make sure your bags dont blend in! A better system may be needed here. Otherwise great service!
Ambiance was great, so was service. No vegan options, but a few scrumptious looking vegetarian options. The juices were fresh and delicious.
The food is great and staff is friendly. Definitely want to go back. Portions are perfect sizing and I was full all day.
At last, we found a place open for lunch/brunch on Sundays before the opera in/near the Metra station. Quick service, good food, bright surroundings, but quite noisy...
I need to go back but I was surprised at how inexpensive and fresh everything was. The taste was great and they had some cool things on the menu. My mentor had this loaded omelette thing. It was AMAZING!!!! Ask them about it. It was HUGE!!!
Great location but the service on weekends sucks. We had to wait for an hour which was supposed to be 20 mins when we made reservations, to get a table and then we had to wait another hour to get our food. We wasted total 2 hours and had our breakfast around lunch time!
Yolk is great service and fantastic traditional American breakfast. Try out the All-Star Combo for a taste of everything.
Perfect service, the food was soooo good. Price is correct for the quality and the quantity you get. I’ve loved it !!
Their strawberry orange juice was amazing, definitely worth it. Their food overall was great but I wasnt a fan of the cheese grits. Still, I would go again. Staff was friendly and fast, and this was during their busy time. Bacon waffles were delicious.
Wow me and my whole fam go their every morning for breakfast And their hash browns are amazing 😍 I would rate it a 5 🌟 star
Very good food. Staff was very helpful and patient with our group that did not come in at the same time.
Can see why this place is one of the best breakfast restaurants in Chicago. Service and atmosphere is very comforting.
I love this restaurant. I usually go at least once for breakfast when I’m staying for a while in Chicago. They have great breakfast food.
Big menu, lots to choose from. Service was quick and attentive. Solid choice if youre looking for standard American breakfast. Only complaint is that it felt a chain restaurant (it is), and there are no alcohol options so no bloody Marys or mimosas.
Generally, I love Yolk. The food is on par with exactly what youd expect from a breakfast place in the City. While there is a no frills approach to this menu, generally speaking, it has all the staples that most come to expect. That said, my go-to on this menu is the breakfast wrap. Past visits have shown generous portions, including fruit, a large wrap, and other staples. This last occasion the wrap was likely half the size as I have come to expect. The taste wasnt bad, nor were the potatoes that came with the meal; but no fruit.
OMG the food here is great...big portions 2bpeople could share and thats what we did.. excellent waiters they keep your coffee hot and make sure you have everything you want. Would definitely go back!!!
Great food and easy to find/walk to. I had a skillet and did not regret it!
This place was great! I had the special of the day, which was a sweet potato hash, which was AMAZING. Huge portions, too. The coffee was really good also, and the service was very good. Highly recommend!
The avocado toast and cinnamon bun was a perfect pre-flight combo. Staff was very friendly and the Sunday morning wait time was not bad, around 10 minutes.
Yolk is probably the best breakfast you can get outside of home cooking. What they do with eggs is amazing. One of my favorites. This location in particular has a very friendly staff and always makes you feel welcome.
This place is fantastic. Staff worked very well together especially during busy time
Definitely a breakfast place worth visiting! The prices are very fair and the portions are large! I would love to be able to live downtown so I could come here to eat more often. If youre from the Western suburbs, then you would know about Buttermilk, and this place compares to the quality of Buttermilk!!
