My friend and I wanted to try a new place and we are sure glad we did! The bloody Marys with the beer sidecar is so good. The bloody Mary tasted super fresh and was just right. Now to the best part, the Nashville chicken and waffles.... To die for! This was probably some of the best friend chicken I have ever had! It wasnt burn your mouth spicy, but had a very good spice taste! The server we had was so friendly and kind, we asked a few questions and he had no problem explaining items on the menu. We will be back again!
Food, ambiance, and service is perfect! Its refreshing to see a menu that is not overwhelming and has just the right amount of good options. I highly recommend their steak, frites, and eggs. Portion size is just right! Simple menu item that was surprisingly better than expected. Love the 50s modern aesthetic and the color scheme.Overall, a great experience!
I finally got to try this place the other day when I had some free time on my hands. First things first, for the neighborhood, its kind of pricey, considering this isnt downtown! So I just opted for something simple and relatively inexpensive, the buttermilk pancakes ($6). Suffice to say, it was surprisingly good. Although it couldve been served a little hotter the pancakes themselves were the right thickness and I could tell from the way they tasted there was buttermilk in them. I still think they shouldve added a side to make it more of a complete meal but thats what you get at 3 Squares, just the minimum. Ill definitely go back here if only for an occasional splurge.
Always a great spot - great addition to the neighborhood! The food is really well made, service is kind and efficient. Really happy to have this as a high quality neighborhood spot. The chicken and waffles are amazing!! Almost as good as Big Jones! Try the pork bacon! (I asked for no gastrique or pickles, this isnt the normal plating for the chicken and waffles).
Great spot to grab a bite for breakfast or lunch. The food and drinks are always incredible. If youre grabbing brunch, you should try out the Kentucky Coffee or the Sling Blade if theyre still on the cocktail menu. Still confused by their hours sometimes though.
3 squares is our go to brunch spot. The food is absolutely delicious and consistently delivers everytime. The omelette, chicken sandwich (go with the chicken thigh), and lamb bacon are a few standouts yet you cant go wrong. The place has a great vibe and for such a nice place it is very approachable. Best diner I have been to in Chicago without a doubt.
Great food and service! Tom our server was very knowledgeable and attentive....first time here and will definitely come back again. Best spot in Uptown!
Came here opening weekend and it was amazing! A much welcomed addition to Uptown. All day breakfast menu is fantastic - shared both the omelette and biscuits and gravy which were both top notch. Service was fast the staff was all exceptionally friendly. Cant wait to come back! Boozy brunch next time ;)
Stayed in the lofts right above. Fantastic breakfast! Had the chicken and waffles, so good! Chicken was perfect. And the potato hash. Super yummy. Were gonna go back tomorrow for the chocolate silk French toast. Def would recommend it if youre in the neighborhood..
Their burger is honestly one of the best in the city. Melt in your mouth deliciousness!
Oh man this is a hopeful Renaissance Uptown restaurant, a part of Chicago that has gone through multiple Renaissance (es)? The decor is modern classic Diner. They serve booze which is so cool for a diner, and the breakfast and lunch menu foods are amazing. We sampled the biscuits and gravy, the chicken sandwich, and the amazing omelette which was so fluffy and delicate! We could not pick a favorite!
Cute simple diner atmosphere with great food. We enjoyed the hash and the sinfully good French toast. Great service. Prices reflect the high quality of the food.
Great food, awesome service. Not a great place to work from only because they dont have outlets. Everything else is very good
Biscuits, biscuits, biscuits... They are amazing. Friends of mine stayed in the area and they ate here every morning because it was so delicious. I got the Wilson breakfast sandwich on an excellent recommendation. Add bacon to it, of course! Pimento cheese needs to be part of your life if it isnt already. Once I heard that ingredient and that it was a sandwich on their homemade biscuits, sold. Check out 3 Squares for yourself. You wont be sorry.
Service was excellent, everything we ordered was delicious. Prices were a bit much for the portion sizes, but worth a visit. The potatoes were absolutely perfect in texture, and we are potato snobs. I could have eaten a plateful of them.
Great New open. My sandwich was delicious, with a lot of interesting flavors that worked really well together. The table shared the French toast, which was incredible, but definitely a dessert item.Cute interior, friendly service, and conveniently located near the Lawrence red line.I wouldve liked to see a few more staple diner items (especially in the breakfast food category), but everything we ate was delicious.
Despite being a little pricey for the area it has a good variety of high quality food and drinks. The peanut butter chocolate shake was even served with a warm chocolate chip cookie! The pork hash and breakfast burrito were both great savory brunch options.
Great breakfast, not your ordinary options. Great spin to the norm, and just love their biscuits. Almost like gram used to make. Try it, you might like it. I did!
My husband and I went on opening day and we keep going back. Pro Tip: their chicken and waffles are to die for, but are super spicy. Ask for the sause on the side.
Great and unique food! I had the chicken and waffle and it was definitely one of my top 3 chicken and waffle favorites! They use a sourdough waffle, which in and of itself is different as well as a syrup/hot sauce blend that was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The interior decor was absolutely adorable - retro yet fresh! The only reason I deducted one star was for the high cost. While I appreciate made-in-house and locally sourced/high quality food, I felt that the prices were a bit too high for the area and for breakfast food in general. As long as youre prepared for a $20-25 breakfast then Id recommend!
My Natalie friend and I woke up early on a Sunday morning before our Lakefront walk and decided to try out 3 Squares Diner for breakfast. We were not disappointed, as the place lived up to the talk of Uptown. Plus, I have found a new amazing spot to dine just a couple minute walk from my place. We couldnt decide what to order, so we got the Lawrence and Broadway sandwiches to split. The fresh herbs were phenomenal, and their breakfast potatoes are to die for, with of course homemade ketchup.See you soon 3 Squares for your burger!! Cant wait!
Waitress was very friendly and informative. Her descriptions really sold the food. She even allowed us to order lunch before it was supposed to be served. We had the burger and it was simple, meaty and delicious. Has an Au Cheval feel to it with the bun, double patty and the cheese (AC is better but this was no regular burger). I recommend this quaint but hip diner
I really liked the 3 Squares Diner! The food was delicious, the ambiance was cute and a nice welcome addition to uptown, it’s just a solid spot. I do think $11 for 2 slices of French toast is a bit much...for that price make it 3 or 4 slices and then it would be perfect. That being said, it was really delicious and I can’t wait to go back.
The burger and chicken sandwich are both very tasty options. Had mediocre service at brunch a while back, came back for dinner and had a redeeming experience. Had a great server, food came out quickly, and everything was just right. Makes me want to give brunch another try...
Worst meal Ive ever had. The tomato soup that both my girlfriend and i had was unrecognizable as tomato soup, better off serving Campbell soup. Our Freind had the most fat and grizzled steak in the history of steaks. Worst of all when we complained we were not offered food any discount actually no response. Dont waste your money and time.
Great food, good portions, friendly staff and cute place too. Will definitely go again!
Just came in with my family. Very nice and clean looking interior. It was empty around 4:30pm. First, the menu is very small for a ‘diner’. The food is very salty...I had the veggie pizza. The fries are a bit soggy as well. My cousin had chicken and Waffles which was burnt black...again soggy waffles. The fish and chips was decent. Lastly, the price is high. One of the girls that works there was behind the service desk fixing up her hair and went straight back to the kitchen. Kinda gross. Our server was rubbing his nose and beard and grabbed food to be served. Gross.
EVERYTHING was great. Coffee (and fresh orange juice!), food, service. Exceeded expectations on all 3.
Went out for a Saturday brunch on a whim and do not reference that decision. A cozy, bright, and clean diner that also served alcohol! Whats not to like? Try the chicken and waffles, three sourdough waffles are a game changer.
Awesome place in Uptown. Theres always something fresh on the menu, the cocktails are great, and the service is excellent. Weve done breakfast, lunch, and dinner, date night and group brunch - it never fails!
Edit: This place has added several veggie options to their brunch and dinner menues. The service has b also been better, and food has arrived promptly and hot.If youre a vegetarian dont go here. They have a very limited menu that lacks any good vegetarian options. The last two times Ive been here half of my food (especially the potatoes) were room temperature. This place has potential but some changes should be made (especially if they want to be anything more than a brunch place)
Wonderful place. The diner decor: white walls, white counter, comfy stools and cozy tables (theres some stainless steel in there for good measure) do not prepare you for the scrumptious 21st century menu: yes, theres chicken and waffle, but theres also goat, duck, duck eggs, and lamb bacon!!! The service as well was as excellent as the food, which came in sensible portions.
Wonderful service and great atmosphere! The Burger and fries were spot on and loved the options for the boozy milkshake. The chicken and waffles though, amazing! Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.
Great local spot in the Lawrence House Flats building. Simple, great food and awesome homemade shakes, having had the cherry chocolate chip Loved the Art Deco decor along with the fast, friendly service
Really enjoyed going here. Service was normal. Not fast or slow. The food was very good, especially considering it was still fairly new when we went. The Bloody Mary lacked some appeal. Sort of bland and not very interesting. Very good location and great to have a diner there.
Breakfast suggestion: Please provide more omelet choices to your customers. Comment: although trendy and tasty, the lunch menu does not have any non-red meat options besides the two salads that have no protein choices, and plus an unhealthy mac n cheese dish. Sadly, the lunch menu is ALSO the dinner menu! I try to patronize new neighborhood establishments, but this might be a challenge. Cheers!
Not bad, but super pricey. I like the decor here, the service is great, and the food is good, but for the concept Id rather hit up another one if the local spots.I recommend instead checking out the Golden House, for the diner feels and cheap prices, or Dollop for an upscale but still very casual and down to Earth diner.
Great location with 1 minute walking distance to the Aragon Ballroom. Art decor interior. Great food options, breakfast served all day.
Upscale diner with interesting and tasty all-day breakfast options. Very good milkshake menu, too!
I love the aesthetic and quality of food here. Its hip, fun and casual but does not sacrifice quality. My favorite is the warm whole grain salad and the meatloaf sandwich (which is really two different types of paté). The atmosphere is sleek and retro-kitch with a purposefully modern flare. The milk shakes are amazing.
Located in the early 20th century Lawrence House it was part of the rejuvenation of this magnificent art deco building. The interior of the restaurant has just the right touch of art deco decor to match the buildings style and remain thoroughly modern. The restaurant is bright thanks to large windows with view of busy Lawrence Street. The food is excellent, well prepared, a feast for the pallate as well as the eye. The staff is very friendly, helpful and competent. We can highly recommended this venue.
I wanna like it, but its just not there yet. Limited menu, sterile aesthetic, and empty during the week. It does have a yummy burger.
Brian was great! Being in the bizzness myself, he really knows what industry means. Was on a first date and had lamb bacon. Service and food was terrific.Ill be back.Roderick.
High-quality, delicious food! Great atmosphere and appropriate portion sizes. Can not wait to come here again!
Its super cute with a clean retro chic interior. Staff is so nice every time. And the French toast blowd my mind! 🤯 Definitely worth checking out.
Fantastic food... Service was on point... I definitely recommend dropping in...
Life changing French toast. Great vibe, good people.
I had high expectations and they were exceeded! Both the duck hash and the lamb & grits were outstanding. Good bloodies and warm service. Well be back soon and often!
Food was good. The iced tea is a la carte because it is artisanal, so there are no free refills. I wont be returning due to the iced tea issue.
Excellent, the best! Quality food and unique menu items!
If you want your moneys worth, dont dine here. The entrees are smaller than appetizers in many restaurants, and everything is pricey. The $15 trout came out on a huge plate with a small portion in the middle. After a few forkfuls, youre done. It would help to have daily specials so you have a chance of feeling satiated. This is Uptown, not the Gold Coast. I left wondering what I could eat when I got home and feeling like I wasted my money. Surely, the folks saying the portions were enough are owners or friends of the owners. Maybe theyre anorexic. There are many restaurants within a few blocks where they dont act like theyre afraid to feed you, AND you walk out with a doggie bag. Just sayin....
Great breakfast. Fresh ingredients, tasteful atmosphere, fair prices for fair portions, good service. No complaints.
Good service but small menu and good was okay but but not great
I had been planning on coming here for some time, so when Fathers Day rolled around and my family wanted to take me out to breakfast, 3 Squares was my choice, and ohhhhhh boy, it did not disappoint! The decor is clean, simple, Art Deco-ish, and looks nice, and our waitress was very friendly and polite We sat in a booth that was quiet and comfortable, and enjoyed a sizable carafe of water while we perused the menu. There is an average number of dishes to choose from, which is good, because it doesnt make you feel overwhelmed with too many options. My wife chose the omelette, which was fantastic, my son had the pancakes, which were excellent, and I had the French toast with strawberry jam and lemon shortbread, which were absolutely delicious. I also ordered a cherry/chocolate shake which was really good too, especially because it used malted milk rather than regular cows milk.We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, told our friends and family how awesome everything was, and are already planning on returning soon. Go here as soon as you can, because you will no be disappointed. 3 Squares is firmly planted in my top 3 breakfast places in Chicago.
Cute place with great service and a nice atmosphere. Went for breakfast... the food was good and had large portions, but everything was a bit overly salted.
Great food, excellent wait staff, fun cocktails and desserts.
Great dinner for a Sunday breakfast
Very good but not a big menu
A cute little diner, although off their game tonight. I ordered the tomato soup and grilled cheese and while the sandwich was tasty, the soup was lukewarm, close to cold. A disappointment from a place Ive enjoyed before.
Good fish and chips. Very small menu which is fine but a little surprising for a “diner”
Limited menu, but everything tastes amazing. Great service too.
Simple Good food. Great service
Great service. Ruben sandwich was terrific.
Food took a while but it was really good.
Could work on their drink menu but cozy atmosphere
Consistent and delicious food. Great place to eat regularly.
Great food, excellent service, cool atmosphere.
Ive been to this diner three or four times. My favorite item on the menu is the potatoes. Everything else is subpar and overpriced. Underwhelming, hipster diner with a retro vibe. Honestly youre paying for the vibe more than the food.
Great food! Good that normally has a higher price point given the quality.
Very nice little diner, great food and very nice staff
Cute trendy diner with modern dishes. The duck hash was terrific.
Friendly service, great breakfast food, even at 7pm
Lamb bacon makes it special. The seating is comfortable and the menu has many interesting thing including gluten free bread.
Came here at 08:30 on Friday and had the place to myself. Great interior. I had a very kind voiced waiteress with tight black curls (forgive me I don’t know the name) I ordered the duck hash which was fantastic, great suace, pickeled cabbage, tender duck and cronchy potatoes. I will return when I come back to Chicago. ^_^
Worth the visit. Worth every penny.
Extremely pretentious vibe. Simple food. Nothing special. Step up from five guys.
Pancakes & service was excellent!
Great food, try it out.♡♡♡♡
My wife and I have been several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food has been consistently excellent, the drinks are great, and the service is friendly and efficient Best restaurant in Uptown, hands down.
A really great place. Worth a special trip.
Food was ok. Not as great as they hype and crazy expensive. I might try one more time but doubtful.
I ordered the French toast and was asked if I wanted one or two toasts. It was at that moment I knew I had made a mistake. If you’re coming in for breakfast, grab cash and go to the diner down the street (Tweet if you want an adult beverage or Golden House if you don’t care about adult beverages).I was charged for the syrup, my French toast came with cookies and a miscellaneous compote.
An absolute must if in the neighborhood! Small menu but excellent and creative cuisine.
Great breakfast, prompt and friendly service.
Nice breakfast place with an imaginative menu
It was hot food and very we done.
Good coffee and quality American breakfast.
Great Happy Hour Specials!
Excellent food & service!
Great. Lots of vegetarian options
So far so good
DELICIOUS food and coffee
