I kept walking by in the morning & seeing their breakfast specials. I finally got the arracheta burrito this morning (to go/take away). It was delicious & did not disappoint!! It was ready when I got there to pick it up, tasty seasonings, no gristle or fat in the meat, and they wrapped it well. I picked it up on my way home....45 min later it was still warm. And what a value!! $6.10 w/tax
Good breakfast spot! I liked their Monte Cristo sandwich and would go back to try out more of their menu. Soup, salads and sandwiches.
Seating took a bit (we could clearly see open tables) but took a long time for our order taken and food to come out. We ordered waffles and an omelette. Omelette came out completely cold. When I sent it back, they just microwaved it!!! I had already taken a bite and it was in the “new omelette” I complained and they didn’t understand or offer any alternatives until I made a big deal. Would not come back. Wasted an hour and a half of waiting.
This place is great friendly staff they make you feel welcome. Weve only had their breakfast but everything has always been good.
I first went to selonica More than 21 years ago, so I obviously am a long-term customer. Its an ok breakfast, and provides good ballast after long nights of... studying. Not the best, but friendly.
Food was good, prices were reasonable. Only issue I had was on a crowded day, Ive been more than once, I noticed that in the entry dining room there were no people of color but in the other dining room around the corner where I was seated were all the people of color. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I wont visit again.
Great spot for a quick breakfast! Service was incredible and all of the staff was friendly. Good coffee too.
Delicious food, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Oh and reasonable prices.
This service was great and food was even better. I enjoyed the Salonica Omelette with feta cheese. It was different but tasty.
Be careful when you pay with credit card. I checked my credit card statement this morning and realized I was charged 5 dollars extra. These guys may be getting extra tips without your consent.
The breakfasts at Salonica are great. I think theyre a reasonable price for the amount of food you get. Service was a little slow as they were short-handed but I didnt mind. They were quite busy, which was nice to see.
It was ok. Kind of pricey for what we ordered. 2 burgers with fries, and 2 breakfast entrees (pancakes, eggs, bacon) was $70. Food was average. To be fair, we had 2 hot chocolates and a coffee. Still seemed pricey. Also no kids menu items. The good thing is that its kind of tucked away in HP, so while every other restaurant we tried to go to had hour long waits, we were seated right away during Sunday brunch time.
Great soup and salads. Very reasonable prices
One of my favs! I really enjoy their foods! Very affordable and also has a calm atmosphere. You’ll have no regrets!
This is NOT a Greek restaurant, lets start there. Ordered the Greek Chicken with rice n veggies. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! It was boiled chicken that was then baked with no seasoning. Dont waste your time
Nothing fancy but the dishes that are good are delicious. Rueben was delicious and fries just as good! Turkey club was yummy.Chicken Caesar wrap was an oil base dressing. Tasty but not what I was expecting. So much dressing challenging to eat.Staff was great and service was quick! They do offer take out and delivery.
Great place to relax and enjoy a nice meal in a very pastoral setting with great neighborhood views.
Great restaurant, had the Jambalaya and the Gyro plate. It was amazing food and would recommend the restaurant to anyone.
Delightful old- school Greek diner with friendly and efficient service. How nice to be able to visit this lovely place again!
Quiet small restaurant with very friendly staff. The chicken parm sandwich was recommended from the waitress as one of the things to get here, not disappointed one bit. Will definitely return next time Im in the area!
While the food was delicious, I would ensure that you get your receipt - the food was ~$63 with tip, however, according to my credit card statement, they have added an extra $4. That is not okay and I will not be returning anytime soon.
The service was great, the food was good, and the prices are reasonable!
Everything was good but the chicken kebab had a taste of just a usual cooked chicken.
This place is such a great dine-in or take-out spot! There is mostly always seating right away. There homestyle food looks and above all tastes amazing! My husband and I live in Milwaukee, but we love coming here to get a bite to eat whenever we are in town. My favorites are their homestyle chili and the rice pudding! My mouth is watering right now, just thinking about it! 😍😅The prices here are amazing. Why go to a high-priced place and get a small portion of food that may taste mediocre, when you could come here to get a full plate of a great home-cooked tasty food?If you come here, you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner, no matter what time of the day it is. I will tell you that if you want some rice pudding, go in or order early, because I have learned they only make one big batch at the beginning of every day, and it does run out. You can also call-in and order take-out. They do not deliver, so you would have to go pick it up (but the food is worth it). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious homestyle cooked meal.
I love this place. The atmosphere is so quaint, the server and owner (?) Are friendly and service is always quick. I especially like the omelettes. They are packed with flavor and they dont skimp on the ingredients. This place is a throw back to old school Americana with the wooden booths, red plastic cups, and no fills food. Just good, quality, and made with love..
Stopped here for Breakfast and it was great. Nice homey breakfast food. Waffles were great, hashbrowns were crispy and fluffy, and bacon was good and crispy.
Great Greek restaurant in the heart of Hyde park. Whether your in the mood for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Excellent customer service and some of the best soup as well.
Great neighborhood spot. Breakfast food all day. Staff is friendly. A mom and pop diner. A variety of delicious combo meals at reasonable prices.
Really delicious food and comfortable atmosphere!!
Only the gyros was good, much work needed on presentation and serving
I got the gyro special. It was as small as a hot dog. I was very disappointed.
The French toast is amazing.
Good service, cute little mom and pop restaurant
The service was good and the food was delicious.
Good food, good service. Warm atmosphere
Awesome all around!
Cozy mom amd pop restaurant. Very friendly
Used to come here a lot pre_pandemic. The food was not as great today...
Still decent...
Great salads and soups
Not authentic Greek food, rather reheated mousaka and pastitsio, dried up bechamel with red sauce? The souvlaki was a put together afterthought, with green peppers? All over priced too. Sorry Salonica.
Delicious food, great menu and prices.
Service was good but food seemed as though it was microwaved, or air fried think it was a chicken pita the veggies were not fresh the salad didnt compliment the meal at all
Very Good Food 👍
Food was good!, good portions and comfortable sitting
Soup tastes like my moms (delicious). Breakfast good. Prices, reasonable.Always a happy experience visiting.
I only ordered from the breakfast menu. But the stars are for it being available well into the evening, as well as tasty. Salonica is old school hospitality served up family style. All portions at our booth were generous and arrived reasonably swiftly after ordering. This Hyde Park eatery is a pleasant reminder of how good food, wonderful service and and vintage booth ambience can fill you up in more ways than one.
One of my go-to places for breakfast. I have been ordering the same omelet for more years and I can remember. Now I take my granddaughter there who loves pancakes and turkey sausage! Believe me there are a lot of other great items on the menu. Great place loved by local residents, students, janitorial and property managers, law enforcement etc, a great place showing off Hyde Parks diversity on a number of levels. Dont miss it!
Breakfast is decent. Tried to support this business, but they insisted on not making my eggs the way I requested, and the staff got upset when I told them my preference. Had to go to another restaurant.
Great food and good service.
Amazing little diner highly reccomended
Delicious. Has a kinda old school diner look which I like. Server was nice and all social distancing was followed. We went for breakfast. We will be going back.
An excellent restaurant with a neighborhood feel. We walked in and were immediately seated the service was fantastic. The food was great. I had a gyro, and it was very well made. The soups were to die for and my son loved the BLT club. I cant say enough good things about this place.
Decent spot, reasonably priced
This is a lovely gem of a place with increadibly delicious food. The atmosphere is very laid back with a comfortable vibe. Get away from the Big City insanity and crazy prices and enjoy an authentic Greek meal with reasonable prices.. We will be back again soon.
An amazing ole-world diner tucked away in a quiet corner of Hyde Park. not every dish is simple and/or American. However every bite is delectable. You will get the Sensation that you and your favorite aunt are in the kitchen and she whipped you up a little something to eat. The portions are great and the prices are good. Its a great place to share a meal with friends. And guess what, its on the south side of Chicago!!!
I have been coming to Salonica since I was young. This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for years. The food is flavorful and takeout is what I get 98% of the time.
I dont think they know what the gyro looks like !!! $ 13$ for a tiny onion hot dog !!!Old wrinkled oil soaked fries ...WORST PLACE EVER !!!! 13 $ IS SCANDAL !!!
Loved the place as soon as I walked in. Lovely ambience and they did a great job maintaining social distancing and sanitization during these COVID days. Gyros Sandwich is a must try.
Serving portions are great for the price. The food was delicious. I will definitely go back the next time I’m in the area.
There arent enough basic, traditional diners left in Chicago. Salonica is a very good example of the breakfast all day, Turkey club, reuben sandwich kind of place which used to be everywhere. Good prices, too. Great place to grab a bite if youre at the museum of science and industry or visiting the U of C.
This is a classic neighborhood dinner. Wish they had late night hours.
Always a nice meal when I stop in here. Atmosphere is always inviting and staff always friendly. Food comes out very quickly once you order it and the food itself (I love that they serve breakfast all day) always hits the spot. My favorite dish is the Salonica omelette!
Service was fast and attentive, wouldnt say friendly or rude. Just there doing their job efficiently. Dont get the pancakes- Stick to the regular breakfast. Nothing special about the food at all. Just a neighborhood spot with quick service.
Food quality isnt great. Service was just okay. Place to meet up for a coffee for sure. Oh but the French toast is good if its fresh.
The ingredients are cheap and the food is tasteless. Over fried and has a taste of cheap overused oil. Portions are large but that is not a plus for me (but not a minus either). Deserts are too sweet to my taste. The staff is not friendly. The interior is nice, however.
Great food and service
Neighborhood diner serving up the best gyros I have ever had! Super friendly and fast service. Will definitely return.
After a long day at the Museum of Science and Industry, we were looking for something close by and kid friendly. We tried Salonica based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere is a homey Greek diner, but the food is generous and delicious. Pita plate and moussaka are spot on. The kids menu is cheap and generous with portions. The baklava is some of the best we had ever had: not drenched in honey. Service was timely and efficient. Total for 3 adults and 3 kids was less than $60. We will visit this restaurant again.
Great value. Pancakes were delicious. Everything was hot and served quickly. And they take credit cards!
Pleasant atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee, a meal and company.
What a nice place! I discovered it when I was living in the neighborhood 2 years ago. It has my hometowns name and my countrys food! The food is always delicious and fresh. The service is great and the prices absolutely reasonable. Id recommended to any type customer..
Excellent neighborhood eatery. Souo was very good and served nicely warm. Sandwiches were hearty and tasty. Service was warm and friendly.
Best Greek breakfast on the Southside. Friendly, welcoming staff. The carryout burrito special is so cheap and so good!
I constantly come grabbing some food in this place. I love the speedy service and well made dishes. Keep it up.
The food was very delicious and the service was great and hospitable. We also enjoyed the cozy atmosphere! Very reasonable prices.
The food hits at an average 3/4 out of 5. The pecan pie is a whole 5 star event, though. Its the type of restaurant that holds neighborhood history. At any given time you can find college students, politicians, or local business owners meeting and enjoying the atmosphere. There is a counter in the back and wooden booth seating along the wall. The back is usually open and is a lot less cramped. As most people choose to seat themselves in the front of the restaurant.
Old School straight to the point Restaurant Friendly staff reasonable prices oh yeah dont forget to try there homemade Soup its Simply Delicious. Thanks Salonica keep up the great work 👍
Salonicas restaurant is always a great pick with an enticing menu. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served here. Parking is on the street with metered spots. Great tasting food, both traditional American and Greek items on the menu. Daily soup specials are great tasting especially the chicken noodle. Good fries and sandwiches. This is a nice place to stop in for a bite to eat. Cozy little spot in the hyde park/U of C area.
They just cannot handle the weekend business. The kitchen is rushed and the quality is poor. Prices went up about 10%. And they refuse to listen to any complaints. Time to stay away until they learn to appreciate their customers.
The first and last time I will go there. The food was horrible and the customer service was even worse.
If you want low cost, delicious, quick food that tastes like the chef put their love into it, this is the place to go. I have been here, and have been coming here for a very long time, every time it gets better. Breakfast, lunch, or even dinner, the food is amazing! The service is unbeatable as well. Also, I love the authenticity of the Greek food and olive oil, Mexican food here is great too! Would highly recommend this place.
Its okay
Salonica is an old school diner with an old school diner interior. Breakfast is decent and pretty much what youd expect from such a place- bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc. Otherwise, its a Greek restaurant, so youll like it if you enjoy Greek food. The menu is extensive, and its not very expensive. Its a fine place to eat, but dont go there expecting to be wined and dined. Its a diner.
