Barnes and Noble is a nice place to buy books. You can even read one there at their cafe. Customer service is very nice. It is connected to DePaul and you can purchase DePaul hoodies and merchandise. Nice placeπŸ‘πŸ½.

Customer service lacking. Stopped by for breakfast and coffee. Asked for the restroom as it was my first visit. They wouldnt tell me where it was, just you have to go to the customer service counter and get a key Go over and the girl followed me but refused to help me and still would say where it was. Finally another person came along and said I had to hand over an ID to get a key and then get directions. I understand there are homeless people around but they need to show a little more respect to a knowingly paying customer who wants to wash their hands before they eat.

Newspaper stand, Depaul merch etc.Childrens section is small - which I went in for - ended up buying myself a couple of books instead. Me!

I love barnes and nobles but at this location specifically, a lot of the books currently on display as β€œbargain” and right in the front are very harmful in terms of diet culture. I know these are probably not permanent placements for these books but it was really upsetting to see right when I walked in.

Ive been dreaming to go to this place ever since Ive read the Harry Potter series. Mainly coz it has a lot of interesting HP merchandise πŸ˜‰ So i went 10days ago and realised this place is not just beautiful n cozy inside, but the catalogue of books they have is immense, satisfying every age group n individual with varied interests. As soon as you enter youll find a section of books on sale going upto 30% so do check those out. On the right is the coffee house, Starbucks.. got enough tables to just sit n read while you sip that amazing blend of hot coffee 😍 Cannot comment on the prices of the books, though 13-20$ worth seemed a lot to me, maybe just coz it was my first time here and the fact that Im not American.

Their renting process could be much more efficient. In order to return rented books, you need to have the money that they would charge if you didnt return them because THEY WILL CHARGE YOU even if you follow their instructions to the letter. Books wont arrive in time to avoid this. Also, Lauralee Carroll lacks the professionalism to deal with their poorly design system.

Well, thank God its there, with so few book stores left. Its oddly laid out, cramped, has a dog pile ton of uninspired merchandise and evidently they cannot keep the unwashed homeless from hanging out in the store, which made the whole experience markedly unpleasant. But the staff were nice, the security foreboding, and I will be back because there is literally no where else to go get books.

What a great place to buy a book, read a book you have not even bought, rifle through a magazine while having a coffee and a sandwich. Pretty extensive - if pricy - selection of gifts as well. DePaul is lucky to be one of the few universities that has a Barnes and Nobles on the premises, and alas! a good portion of my salary has been spent there. DePaul staff get a discount all year long, and a pretty good deal once a year, around Christmas time, for a week. Actually, this year they have offered two weeks of discounts, not just one. I love the smell of books mingling with the smell of coffee, such a perfect combination. The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. One of the best, or maybe the best, chain book store in Downtown Chicago. There are so few of them left, we should all flock in as we do in museums.

Its also convenient that the store is downtown and part of a larger shopping district. If you enjoy the Barnes and Noble here, be sure to check out the Harold Washington library a few blocks away. Conveniently located around many businesses and great place for a break. Staff is always friendly and there is usually a line for their cafe (FYI they sell Starbucks coffee but its not Starbucks owned). Try to grab a seat at the long window bar facing State Street and catch up on reading while people watching. One problem is the revolving door that occasionally brings in smoke from those that arent real good at reading or measurement (smoking is not allowed within 15 feet from the entrance people!). Summer is best because most DePaul students are gone and all their backpacks dont occupy all the chairs. Security on site too.

Its a great location however, the staff at the customer service desk are very rude. Particularly the two older ladies. I overheard them talking about a women who came in asking for something that turned out to be at another store. The two older women, who I cant name because neither wore name tags, then laughed at the women after she left. Also, if you ask for a bathroom key that happens to be checked out, you will be told to wait with a rude tone. I never came here before but already these women appeared to dislike me. The younger guy who was with them seemed to dislike them too. I really dont blame him. Try to go to a different location to avoid the rude employees here.

This B&N is a convergence of several characteristics you could hope to find at any public shoppe in the Loope. Working from the outside in, 1. E. Jackson is a prime location. The building exterior, although belonging to DePaul, is modern and impressive. The well-maintained plaza is a good place to meet up with friends, co-workers, professors, etc. The same goes for the interior cafe (not reviewed here because its a separate business). The bookstore, upstairs and down, is built for perusing. Although the place is often noisy and bustling, B&N still offers a variety of comfy chairs to its customers. It stocks the standard B&N fare, as well as DePaul books and swag, and maintains substantial sale shelves.Of course, big box bookstores like this are a dime a dozen in Chicago, but if youre within this B&Ns radius and you have a literary need, you should check it out.
