I had failed a state inspection at another shop and been quoted around $2,700 for the repairs by the shop who did the inspection. I sent the report to Peacock and they said they could fix everything for less than $1000. Ended up being less than $700. They were so friendly, honest, professional, and caring. I truly feel respected and taken care of when I come to Peacock. Highly recommend!

I can’t recommend Peacock Auto more highly. My catalytic converter was stolen twice in the past 2 months (#priusprobs) and Joe and his team have been incredibly kind, honest, and fair in their repairs, both times going out of their way to acquire quality used parts for my car in order to cut costs. They’re a group of prompt, communicative, community-oriented, and genuine people, and I wouldn’t consider taking my vehicle anywhere else.

I found this service center as I was having issues with my Honda and Subaru at the same time. I just moved to charlottesville and I can tell you this is a very honest and affordable repair shop. This is my new mechanic. He diagnosed my problem and fixed it right away. I will continue to use them! I highly recommend this business.

My husband and I stopped here in the midst of road trip because our AC stopped working and the entire car had started rattling badly. Despite being very busy, everyone was so friendly and helpful, from the mechanic inside, to the lady in the office and especially Joe. Joe was extremely knowledgeable and helped us as best as he could under the circumstances. What I appreciated the most about him was his honesty. I first went to Peacock to get a water pump/timing belt service done last year. Not only did they charge less than other local shops, but their level of communication was unparalleled. I’ve had to take my car back a couple times since then, and Joe has been extremely helpful in explaining the issues. Every time I’ve take my car there, the jobs have been finished on time and Joe was honest about what needed to be done vs. what didn’t need to be done. They also provide a warranty on their work. Couldn’t recommend Peacock enough.

I moved from another state to Virginia, and it was very easy to make an appointment. The team was very communicative. I felt like they were very honest in their assessment of how my car was doing and did not try and upsell me (I came in wanting all 4 brakes fully replaced and they talked me down to 2). After changing the spark plugs in my wifes Highlander it started throwing codes for an issue with the evap system. I couldnt trace down the issue so we took it to the local Toyota dealer. I was skeptical when they recommended replacing $1,300 worth of evap system parts so I decided to take it to Peacock (which turned out to be a great decision). I spoke to Joe about the issue and he was able to find a small blockage in a hose that I caused while doing the spark plug job. Everything was fixed with zero parts and 2 hours of labor. I cant speak highly enough about our experience with Peacock and well definitely be returning in the future.

Brought my car in a couple times now. Theyve been quick, profess, straight to the point. They gave accurate quotes ahead of time, and had me ready when they said they would. Its a no frills kinda place, which I guess is good for a mechanic. They fix your car, charge you, and give it back to you.I got some more things to fix and Ill be going back.

My 2009 Toyota Tacoma broke down at night while climbing Afton Mountain west of Charlottesville. My son was driving from Roanoke to visit family in Charlottesville. He arranged for the pickup to be towed to Peacock Auto Service in Charlottesville, a destination he chose after consulting with family.Garage owner Joe Peacock phoned to tell me the Tacoma needed a new engine, along with other repairs. He said he wasn’t sure the truck, which had traveled nearly 200,000 miles, was worth fixing. We discussed the pros and cons of proceeding with repairs and the likely costs – which clearly would be significant. Ultimately, I approved repairing the Tacoma and Joe and his crew got busy.I felt throughout the process that Joe was honest, reasonable and trustworthy.The repair wasn’t cheap but Joe and company completed the work under the estimate.I am very happy with the results. Our nine-year-old Honda CRV had new tires and was good to go at first, but vibration and noise started at 350 miles – at first, I assumed the vibration was due to changes in the interstate’s surface. As it worsened I assumed it resulted from a misalignment of our new tires. But the vibration grew and the loudness grew until it was quite loud at 5mph and the car handled like it had a flat tire. We googled “auto repair shops near us”. It was our happy day that Peacock Auto Service was the closest and had a 5-star rating. We limped noisily into their lot. They were busy with regular customers. But the owner and his wife listened to our story, took the wheels off, showed us how the ruined right rear bearing differed from the left rear, located the bearing we needed from their local supplier and installed it, all while we goofed off at my sister’s home. My only regret is that their shop is near my sister’s home in Charlottesville VA instead of near my home in Nashville TN. Thank you, Joe and Mandy.

If you need an inspection, the shop right down the street that has the means to perform them. If you have had any bad experience with them talk to them theyll work with you to make sure you leave happy.

Great to have a mechanic I can trust. I was told I needed an expensive brake repair after failing a state inspection. Joe recommended a different stepwise approach and fixed the issue (with a different repair) at a fraction of the cost. On another occasion, he undercharged for his labor. I went in with the attitude that I needed (A) and (B) replaced in order to fix my car. Joe was able to determined I really only needed (A) replaced. It is always hard to find a good, honest, trustworthy mechanic. Joe is all of those things. My Mountaineer was acting up and we couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. Sometimes it would start right up and go just fine and other times it wouldnt even start. Joe was able to figure out that it was a fuel pump. We took it in the week before Thanksgiving 2014. He didnt think he would be able to get to it until the Monday after Thanksgiving because they were slammed. After I explained that that was our only car and we really needed to get to my moms for Thanksgiving he made it happen. Wednesday evening at around 7:30 he called and said the job was done. He didnt even charge me extra for having to stay late. It all ended up being $20 less than he originally said. We will always take our car there!

So, the next morning, I left my vehicle at Peacock with no appointment, hoping they could get my car in to look at and hopefully repaired. Later that morning, I talked to Joe, the owner, and was told they would do everything they could to take care of my vehicle. I was referred to Peacock Auto Service by my girlfriend after I needed a good evaluation of my 2014 Honda Civics brakes as I was worried that I might need some significant work on my car as it had begun shuddering when I was braking at higher speeds. I also was in need of a routine oil change at the time. I dropped my car off a few days after calling Mandy, who assured me that they would have my car ready by the end of the week when I needed it for an upcoming trip. Joe called me with some good news: he did not think that my brakes needed any work, and that he was happy to just do the oil change and replace some air filters. I appreciated his honesty and professionalism when he told me that many other auto shops would have just gone ahead and charged me to do some minor work on my brake rotors that was unnecessary. Overall, I was very satisfied with the service I received at Peacock and I will be returning with my car for the forseeable future.

Took my car in with seemingly two separate issues, and I presented it to Joe that way. He took a look at it and told me hed call me the next day. He calls me and tells me that the two issues are one and the same and quotes me a price to fix it. Im skeptical, but I agree and hope for the best. After waiting for the part and taking the car back in I get my car back with both problems fixed, he was right! I truly believe another shop would have tried to sell me on the fact that they were separate to increase cost to me. Joe explained the issue, what he did to fix it, and his reasoning for everything in a way that I very much appreciated. I couldnt be happier with my experience with Peacock Auto so far. I have a beat up old truck that has far too many previous owner repairs. It failed inspection for a leaking axle seal. I contacted them by email for a rough estimate, which they got to me promptly. I brought it in, and they found all kinds of hack-job problems from previous owner. Missing drum shoe springs, no adjusters, parking brake messed up, etc. Even wrong axle bearings and seals modified to fit! After hearing about everything, I was expecting a major price jump, but they actually discounted labor some to keep it reasonable and not too much over initial estimate! Outstanding, honest, professional and reliable. Thanks!

I grew up with my father teaching automotive repair with a college and then a Votech Center. My brother picked up the trade and became a college graduate in Automotive Repair and certified ASE. Peacock Auto shows the integrity and honesty that a trustworthy automotive repair shop needs to be. My daughter has our Passat that Joe has done work too. She lives in the Virginia Tech area and she needed work done to the Passat. Joe being the person he is, called the shop that was doing the work, talked to the mechanic and worked out a plan for the vehicle. It is hard to find a mechanic that would go out of his way to call another shop and discuss a plan for the car. That is just one of many examples of Peacock Auto. Joe is extremely honest and he will tell you the truth even if it means that it is worth fixing or not worth fixing.

Everyone at my workplace goes to Peacock to get their car serviced (we work in the old linen building that also hosts Firefly so very conevenient) Joe was very patient with my ignorance of how cars work and explained while showing me where I was having the issue with my car. Everyone was very courteous and friendly :)

After reading all the stellar reviews, I was disappointed at not being able to do business with Peacock. There are some points to consider, though. When my (new to Charlottesville) daughters truck broke down, we looked for a garage we felt we could trust. Peacock seemed the obvious choice, based on reviews. The website said they take all makes and models, and were open M-F (although one of the photos showed a sign that had Saturday hours, too). Reviews said they were all about keeping older cars on the road. I called and talked to Mandy, and told her my daughter had a 2003 Ford Ranger that needed help. It was early on a Friday, and my daughter was at work. I asked if they had Saturday hours, and Mandy said no. I told her about the photo on the website, and she said they would fix it. She said they closed at 6pm, and had night dropoff, and the first opening they had was on Wednesday. I told her we would have the car towed that day. When my daughter got there that evening (on the tow truck), it turned out the lot was extremely small and quite full, and there was no place for the tow truck to get in. A guy (she didnt get his name) came out of the garage and told her that they only work on Japanese cars, and nothing older than 10 years. It would have been nice if Mandy had told me that on the phone. The guy referred my daughter to C&R Auto Service, about a block away. Fortunately, C&R turned out to be everything we were hoping Peacock would be. Peacock may be a great garage, or they may be a lousy garage; well never know. But a little better information on the website and on the phone would have helped a very anxious young woman a lot more than what we got.
