3 years ago I searched for just the right crown molding for my 1940s home, and landed upon this fine company. This year I returned for a larger renovation and worked with Chuck, who was wonderful and patiently answered all my questions and found the perfect material for the job. I am very pleased with the service of this company and their employees and will be back.

I walked into Queen City Lumber on a whim with a request for a very specific, very difficult to find tropical hardwood. The customer service was great - they didnt stock that specific type of wood and any purchase would have required way more than I needed, so we walked out and picked through the lumber to find some scrap individual boards. It was exactly what I needed and very convenient.

I needed some pieces of plywood cut to specific sizes for a project. Was quoted $758. Got the job done at 84 Lumber for $96, including the cost of the plywood. If you dont want to do the job just say so.

Ive worked with Queen City Lumber for now 16 years. These folks have the best quality lumber, service, skill, and knowledge. If you need unique trim profiles to match your older home - these guys will have it or make it.if you want straight tight grain quality treated deck lumber - Queen City Lumber is your source. For sub-par warped knotty ski shaped decking youll need to go elsewhere.if you need a solid wood, crafted, mortised, pegged, intricate - bracket, corbel, door, trellis, arbor, or anything you can possibly describe and draw - they are the Michelangelo of fabrication shops. If you need choice quality grade framing material – Queen City Lumber is your source. Their framer series lumber is so good we often use it for our finish material! If you want barked and knotty or U- shaped you’ll need to shop elsewhere.Need some advice or Q&A for a project – go to Queen City Lumber. I quote Web Hatley in reference to a recent shop fabrication order “These came out about $200 less than originally quoted.” These guys gave us money back!

I am a carpenter. I do alot of Decks and Pergolas. When I moved to Charlotte I was glad to find Queen City Lumber. Obviously any carpenter who has been in the trade in this area knows there is not a better selection of quality lumber in the Charlotte area. Keep up the old fashioned standards of quality over mass quantity Queens. You got my business. Handy Manny NC

I’d like to echo the comments from several other one star reviews - this is not the place for the end consumer.Queen City Lumber may advertise that they are excited to help with special projects but in reality they are rude and condescending and not interested in helping a non-contractor or non-high volume customer. If you don’t speak their woodworking and lumber lingo fluently, they treat you like you are incompetent and not worth their time. I can honestly say I haven’t been treated so poorly by anyone I’ve interacted with for any type of home repair endeavor. I would never treat a person seeking advice or help in my area of expertise the way they treated me. (I’m a female, by the way).Even though my lumber and mill works needs are few and far between, I’ll be looking elsewhere to spend my money.

Queen City is the real deal, old timey lumber yard close to downtown. They have the best selection of KDAT treated lumber in Charlotte which is a dream to work with if building a deck. Their interior trim is great too and very affordable, i redid my whole house with their stock trim.

If youre a yankee dont waste your time, you are not wanted here!!!! I came to town 16 yrs ago. Queen city was the first lumber yard i went to. After i said hello to the two men behind the counter....they both just walked away....litterally. i said to the two other people sitting at desks if they were coming back....neither even spoke...?? (So weird). I said, i guess my kind isnt welcome here, the one just stared at me with the intellectual dead pan stare, the other said caught right on did ya.........16 years later a customer order special orders a $93 piece of base cap, 10 long. It had 4 splits in it, i had to decline, the yard bird and me walked into the office to explain....mr boss would hear none of it. Im refunding your money, you need to go someplace else these are quotes. Nothing but the finest down here in redneck land. Wanted to ask him when the next klan meeting was. Well bless their southern hearts

Dont go to this place if you are end consumer. Their odd business hours should be first sign of warning. Wasted an hour drive to them for nothing. The people seems nice but they were not interested in helping me. All the type of wood they claimed to carry on their website didnt exist when I went there, and they are too busy to cut anything for you. It is more for contractor. They sell a ton of construction lumber and not much more. Like the other reviewer said: for now how they been in business, they have no clues an alternative place that would sell some hardwood customer are looking for.

Outstanding lumber company. Queen City Lumbers selection, quality, and people make all the difference. Chris and Chuck (and everyone else there that Ive had help from) are a huge help and have a wealth of knowledge about lumber, construction and carpentry. Knowledge and expertise can make a huge difference when you dont know exactly what your options are or what the best solution might be.If youve ever sorted through 100 2x4s to find 10 good ones at the big box home improvement stores, you know the value of higher quality lumber. At Queen City Lumber you get quality every time. A grade or better lumber, finish grade trim boards, hard-to-find hardwoods and unique sizes, specialty products like Azek PVC, fire-rated lumber, and my recent saving grace - kiln dried after treatment pressure treated lumber. Turns out its the only treated lumber they carry - and its great - high quality wood from Cox Industries in Orangeburg, SC. They have pressure treated decking, framing timbers, plywood, 1x trim and more, all kiln dried and ready to paint, stain, seal, etc.As if all of the above werent enough, they also have an outstanding millwork shop. If you need custom woodworking or millwork done for a project, you can get it done here. They are hands down the best lumber company Ive ever bought from. Love that they have been in business here since the 1950s, and hope theyre here forever.
