This grocery store is much more than just your cute mom and pop neighborhood store. They have a great kitchen with ready-to-go dishes + awesome sandwiches, vast list of health foods from local stores (including a delicious selection of local milks which I find hard to find) Great wine store attached+ fab garden section outside. Friendly, organized and delicious. The only thing I would change is to lower the prices a bit- were not all made of money. :)
My favorite grocery store! It’s got lots of options for local and organic produce. I love the giant nursery and greenhouse area. Thank you for stocking gluten free options of regular foods that I can’t find anywhere else. As someone with food allergies, it makes shopping way more fun.
Love Pemberton so much! Really knowledgeable employees - Im a beer newbie so they gave me so much good information and helped me choose stuff Id like. I had a negative experience in the gardening department with an employee, and after submitting some feedback online, I had a really thoughtful email back from (I believe) the head of gardening there. Totally makes up for it. You can tell they care!
Great little neighborhood shop. Love their breakfast bagels. Each interaction i had with workers was very pleasant. I was visiting from out of town and made this my morning stop shop. Great local chocolate. And a beautiful plant walking area.
Am always reliable and eye-popping diversity of options, the choices of gourmet foods, interesting beverages - alcoholic & non, and the prepared foods just excellent. The staff is amazing too; Chris & Josh at the deli really made my visit memorable. Always glad to visit!
This place is really good, but I always forget about it. Good produce and meat, a lot of healthy food options, a sandwich and prep food counter and a plant nursery. Since its close to me, Ill have to go more often.
Love Pemberton. They have everything you need.
The grocery store is great, their products are high quality and specialized. When we had an unpleasant experience here with a cashier, Greg (General Manager) quickly reached out to me too make things right. They are an independent local business and we are happy to support them by continuing to shop here. Thank you Greg for our email exchanges.
Good stuff, great staff, always enjoy shopping here
I ordered a cheer fruit hamper basket. It is absolutely delicious! A wonderful assortment of fruits and other items - crackers, cookies, truffles, hard candies. Oranges, 3 types of apples, clementines, pears, and a pineapple! Jams are so cute and tasty. Extremely well packed and the fruit is lasting. Great value for the money. I will definitely be ordering again! Please dont change a thing!
GREAT place for Vegans - and omnivores too! However, the vegan selection rivals Whole Foods with Tons of specialty items, alcohol and even plants. There is a bakery area, dry goods section (with GF flours) and specialty oils, etc. Plus a prepared foods section with Several grilled veggies offered.
They always have something I want even if my shopping list didnt know it. From perennials to produce, to prepared foods, great beer and wine selections and basic groceries, how lucky to have this in my neighborhood. Oh, and the staff are nice and helpful!
I forget how multipurpose Pemberton Farms marketplace is. I visited recently and was reminded that are a gourmet grocery store, a booze store, and a gardening store. They have wine and spirits, with a lot of specialized offerings, such as unusual bourbons. They are a mini full line grocery store with produce and a lot of interesting products. And they have lots of gardening supplies which is what brought me there for the visit. There’s even a little set of tables and chairs tucked in the north east corner of the parking area if you want to sit down and eat or drink something you just bought there.
Update: Egg salad is no longer runny! Still hesitant to order sandwich when a specific employee is working the deli. Good news - the store is once again open til 10 p.m. Deli stops at 9 p.m. but you can instead visit the somewhat substantial prepared foods self-service section with half sandwiches, salads, meals ready to bake and more.Pemberton Farms is a great market to explore and find your own personal favorites! Yes, the prices are usually a little higher, so visiting PF may be a treat more than an everyday or every week event. Note that nearby there is a row of specialty shops that would also interest PF shoppers.Quality selections in all categories and friendly, polite employees are key to Pemberton Farms popularity. This review also refers to the usually awesome deli.A highlight for me is that Pemberton Farms is the only store I have found that carries Natures Bakery Peach Apricot Fig Bars (in the usual box of six), in addition to other fruit flavors. My favorite is always available, to date, anyway!Re: the deli: Once every couple of weeks I treat myself to a delicious sandwich which the employees make (craft) to order, with friendly, attentive care.Unfortunately I now refrain from ordering from one of the deli employees who made my regular sandwich for me on two different occasions. He used small portions of slimy-ish meat, older lettuce and seemingly stale bread. For that reason, I find it wise to order in person rather than call ahead. It also could be that sometimes I visit PF in the hour before they close.I find the vast selection of deli-prepared foods to be or appear to be of high quality but preparation occasionally is inconsistent. Recipes of at least some items seem to change, perhaps because different employees prepare the offerings. Who wants runny egg salad or tough strips of beef tenderloin?!I will note a highlight for me throughout the store is most selections are quite healthy! Nice salads!
I love to shop there. The produce is very fresh. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Nice variety. Basic and gourmet items. Clean. Neat. Narrow aisles
Only checked out the plants but the indoor marketplace was bustling. Helpful employees tending to the plants—lots of veggies, outdoor flowers, and tropicals section isn’t bad (begonias, peace lilies, succulents, anthuriums, tradescantia, orchids)You can buy pots, soil, fertilizer, insecticide, moisture meters, gardening gloves, plastic saucers, soil test kits, seedling pots
Lots of baked goodsCharcuterie. Fresh made sandwichesPlants. Garden accessories
Terrible experience. I won’t be back again. I stopped by Pemberton Farms for blueberry muffins and juice the other day, but was treated very poorly because of the way I was dressed. During my visit I looked over the pastry selection and noticed while doing so that a store employee working in the deli began watching me without making any attempt to interact with me or assist me. After seeing that I was being watched, and noting that there were no blueberry muffins I went to get a bottle of juice from the shelf in another area of the store and saw that the same employee from the deli was following me around the store. Again at no point did the employee attempt to offer even the most basic customer service or interact with me in anyway. The experience was incredibly uncomfortable and made me feel unwelcome and singled out. The next day I called and spoke with the store GM Greg, but didn’t feel as though my concerns were taken seriously. Unfortunately, due to this experience I won’t be shopping at Pemberton Farms again, but I will certainly be letting friends and family know about the treatment I received.
This market/grocery store/nursery/liquor store is chock full of anything you could possibly want for your home and your belly. I love shopping here because it is small (but actually big in terms of what they stock). Great local food makers and artisanal goodies from New England. I love their sandwiches (especially the Mayflower) and they have excellent prepared foods also including now empanadas.
This is unequivocally one of the best markets I’ve ever been too in my life. I cook professionally & as such take quality ingredients and variety to heart, and this little gem in Cambridge absolutely blew my mind. It kind of makes sense, in a way- Harvard is located here, and this establishment is like the Harvard of markets(: They have everything you could need and then things you didn’t know you needed but will be so happy to have discovered. Typically when I want something artisan or craft I’ll go to Eataly in the Pru, but this place is a heavy contender for my new go-to spot when I need to pick up for catering events or other private chef related matters, as well as just shopping for general use for myself! I had the pleasure of meeting the current owner’s son (Grandson? I might have this mixed up) named Greg who checked me out at the register & provided some lovely backstory on his families establishment. I think it also speaks to the genuine humbleness & quality of the place that he was working the register just like every cashier there- how often do you see someone directly related to ownership actually working with the staff? It was heart warming to see and really solidified my feelings on the place. And I haven’t even mentioned the greenhouse!!! I love plants and picked up a beautiful Swiss Cheese Monstera from there a few weeks ago that was impeccable in quality & foliage. You won’t regret checking this place out!
Great store they have everything from plants, flower 🌹 pots to groceries and even a wine (and I believe liquor) products! I found a beautiful flower pot for only $25.
I really enjoy coming here for plants and gardening supplies. It’s a fun outing. However, food-wise, pretty disappointed. We ordered a few paninis. Flavor was decent but they were stone cold, and made it feel like you were eating a stale refrigerator sandwich rather than a freshly pressed panino. The quinoa bowl was bland and didn’t come with enough dressing to add sufficient flavor to all the grains and vegees. Not worth the price.
19 DOLLARS for a jar of Almond Butter brand that costs literally 8$ at any other supermarket, same size too. Can someone make this make sense? This isnt even profit anymore at that point it becomes price gauging! This is a running theme in this supermarket where the price mark for basic products is 5x more than its worth.Needles to say, i went elsewhere and purchased 3 jars of that almond butter for 21 dollars. So..... Pemberton, whats up with this?
A real true shopping experience, fine wine craft beer, baked goods and a lot other products. plus a great plant ahop.A little pricey but lots of fun
I love this place. The natural products are amazing, they always have random health things I’m looking for. The newly added beer and wine section is amazing and the staff is so knowledgeable. I also highly recommend the deli and fresh foods area, the staff keeps it very clean and follows instructions. The sandwiches are divine!
Love Pemberton Farms because of awesome employees like Dan G., he really knows wine and has such a passion for it thats contagious. His suggestions are always a hit in my home and he really takes the time to get to know his customers likes/dislikes, and even pushes you to be a bit more adventurous with your preferences. Thanks for being awesome at what you do, Dan!
Good selection of plants and flowers both outdoors & in. Most were reasonably priced which was a very pleasant surprise considering their Massachusetts Avenue location in Cambridge. The market items were priced on the higher side, but with such a large selection of local items, thats to be expected. I didnt peruse the beer/wine/spirits section - but it was there! No trouble finding an available parking spot in their moderately-sized lot on this slightly-cold and intermittently-rainy Spring day. The woman working the outdoor garden area was horticulturally-knowledgeable and kind, and the the person who checked us out in the market did so quickly with a smile. This was my first visit; Ill definitely be going back.
Always something new to grab. Need wine, and got me a nice bottle and fruit. Good customer service as always
Food prices are always very high. But they do have great selection of all types of plants. Also, their alcohol section is worth checking out if youre into some locally brewed beers.
The best place to get organic groceries and indoor plants in the summer from. They have a good selection of wines too. The staff is very helpful. The prices may be a little bit high for meats but they have some pretty fresh meat and shelling a few extra bucks for some fresh meat is worth it.
Kind of pricey considering most of the stuff they sell here you can get at Market basket for about 30% less. They do have some good and hard to find wines, and a few cheeses and cakes. Of youre shopping for good vegetables, Market basket is better.
Fantastic selection, friendly staff, and high quality produce. Great one stop shop for beer/wine, groceries, and flowers among many other things. Hot and prepared food selection for easy lunch or dinner on the go. A local shop that consistently provides high quality goods and service.
A great neighborhood stop with friendly people. Prices are high but they have all sorts of garden items and plants, flowers and a convenience store that makes really good subs on the spot so it has a lot in one spot and great big parking lot
Very bad service, unfortunately. I travelled 1 hour to see the Garden center, but it was closed for a private event and there were no information about that in their homepage!
I bought today an individually-packaged piece of cake which, it turned out when I tried eating it, had already gone bad. There is no packaged or sell-by date on the box, so who knows how long these pastries can lie there? I generally like Pemberton but am appalled to see such poor food hygiene practices.Edit (12/23/20) – Pemberton has fixed the issue and personally apologized to me. With their exemplary response I am updating the score to the level that they deserve as a whole – there is no other family-owned store around here that provides a wide variety of gourmet grocery products together with both indoor and outdoor plants. Their freshly prepared food is excellent and a notch above Whole Foods offering.
Awesome place.alot of interesting flowers and other items
This place is delightful. Fantastic made to order sandwiches of a huge variety - pricy, but giant portions. Also just a lovely grocery store to browse speciality items, nice cheeses and produce, flowers, and more. Really friendly staff. Feels like a Whole Foods but more boutique.
My favorite grocery market in the Davis Square area. Try the Magic Bites hummus and baba!
Great place for plants and specialty groceries.
It’s a mini greenhouse attached the market. Good selection of plants for good prices. they also have gardening supplies like soils, neem oil / other pest control, fertilizers etc which is pleasantly surprising! Will definitely come back
More pricey than your standard grocery store but the food and selection is better without question. Beer and Liquor are a great complement. An invaluable asset to the community.
Neva thinks theyre wonderful.
Took a long walk from Arlington, center to Pemberton farms went inside to buy a drink, but was too busy to wait for a small order, going back soon to purchase a freshly made Empanada..😊
I keep coming back here anytime I need advice on taking care of my plant babies. As a new plant carer whos got no experience with plants, the staff here is so kind and helpful in picking the right soil, explaining what environment each plant needs etc.I just met the nicest guy (forgot to ask his name) but he spent a good 5 minutes explaining how to understand each plants personality and learn to get used to them when I told him that Im so new at this. Gave valuable advice on not to repot any plant during this time of the year as it would be too harsh an adjustment for them. This is the kind of information youd not really get on blogs until you go crazy and read half a dozen of them. Also explained how to not be scared when they droop one fine morning and how to get them to recover.HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE because the prices of soil, pots and plants is the best you can get and the people here are the nicest kindest humans youd meet! Plus its a family owned business so you can tell they really do care about every customer they get.
I ordered gift baskets for all of our US employees this week as an appreciation gift for the holidays. Mark made the ordering process incredibly simple. The baskets are arriving at co-workers homes and they are nothing short of spectacular! I will definitely be ordering from you again in the future for both this company and another company that I do the marketing for. Thank you so much!!!!
Great selection of both garden supplies and groceries. I also like their sandwich selection at the counter. My one complaint is its very tightly packed in there.
Excellent selection of locally grown food and shrubs
Very crowded at Saturday lunchtime, but the sandwiches at the deli are worth the wait. This place has very nice things to eat at top -of-the-market prices.
Good food, organic and such. Many homemade items. Delicious and prices not too bad.
I go mostly for the garden center. The prices are definitely on the high end. Some products sold here really shouldnt be (radish and spinach seedlings, which dont transplant well at all). However, they do have a wide variety of options to choose from.
Great selection of fine foods, cheese, wine, beers. Fully stocked deli. Tasty deserts. Lots of small household items and garden supplies. Nice gift baskets over the holidays. Runs pricey.
Really delicious grilled chicken club panini!
Love coming here for the outdoor garden center and greenhouse! Staff are incredibly friendly and always share useful plant care tips!
Had some fried chicken breast last night for dinner from their Grab n Go and it was the tastiest most tender chicken I have ever had!!!It was to die for! Kudos to the cook in the deli!!!The Specialty sandwiches in the Deli are just as incredible too! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nice place, helpful people, good-looking freshly prepared food
Attempted to make a gift basket order on-line from Montreal and it proved difficult. Telephoned and Deneb made the process simple, efficient and pleasant. Will certainly be a return client for my gift baskets.
The person in the beer/wine section is super helpful and the selection is excellent!
My family recently received a Holiday gift from Pemberton Farms. We were beyond thrilled with the quality. I would recommend this company to anyone. We are going to start using them for all of our Holiday gifts to customers, family and friends.
Great specialty grocery store with local products, delicious hot sandwich deli, great recent add-on of a wine selection. And of course, a lively garden area with educated employees to answer your questions about why your indoor plants arent thriving...very friendly atmosphere. Prices are a little steep but Im willing to pay a little extra for all the above reasons!
I come here to get low-to-no light plants for my home, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a great variety, and its always very busy, which is nice to see.
Nice local market with locally sourced foods. Also has special items like mango and pear juice which you cant find at a normal supermarket. Friendly and helpful staff.
They got it all, love coming here
Great beer and wine section, tasty sandwiches from the deli along with other hot food items, quality produce, plus a wide array of local products like Walden Local Meat and Gracies Ice Cream - whats not to love?
Great local market with hard-to-find products, including lots of products that cater to dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free, non-alcoholic beers, etc.), all at a reasonable price point. A bit like a Whole Foods but better.
Apparently my girlfriend knows the daughter of the Pembertons or somesuch, all I know is that we spent way too long way too early being way too loud on a Sunday morning and it was awesome, such good products here, and I also love when the gardening part is open, as it breaks up the seemingly infinite and definitely way longer than memory would have walk between Porter Square and Arlington, so you should stop in here and get you some cannabidiol drinks like I did, nothing like a nice can of weed minus highness that says Cambridge-Arlington line.
Pricey but good quality goods
Great place, people, and products. Really awesome independent grocery store, w beer/wine and garden, too!
Prefer this to whole foods! Much better local selection.
I had really bad experience here this summer. I bought couple of perennial plants and one started wilting after a week. I am experienced gardener and took care of the plant properly. I asked if I can exchange the plant and was verbally attacked by one of employees (male, late 50s). Another employee promised that the owner (Mark) will give me a call about this. He never called. I called back and they said that plant is dead and they cannot do anything about it. I will certainly not shop at Pemberton Farms in the future.
Five stars just for being a local full service local grocery store. Its a good thing they expanded before the pandemic hit, or it would feel even more crowded - as it is, its less stressful than Whole Foods, but not as relaxed as TJs. But I generally only pop in here for a few items at a time: produce, beer, bread, and a few staples, because I get sticker shock from most of the inventory. And I think the beer selection was better before the expansion. But Ill keep coming back - may Pembys never die!
Awesome store, super friendly staff, high quality meats and produce, with a large artisanal cheese selection; why go anywhere else! Pro Tip - Too good to go bags are bountiful and a delicious way to save money and stop food waste.
Nice relatively small market with good selection: produce, meat, fish, deli, baked goods, beer and wine, dairy.
Amazing market! They have everything you can think of. Wine, cheese, prepared food, pet stuff, games, local products, bakery....I wish i lived closer. Very cool place.
Friendly staff & beautiful store, they seem to have everything
What happened to this place? The newly renovated liquor dept is a disaster all of a sudden. Messy, disorganized, and rude kids running the place. 180 degree turn in a month... Weird.
The staff was so helpful! I needed a couple potted plants for my front steps and they helped me pick something beautiful and hardy. They gave me advice on a new window box without talking down to me. Really great experience. Recommend!
I was looking at the site to see if they sold Green Giant trees Unfortunately they dont so thats the reason why I gave it one star
Surprisingly large selection. Very helpful staff. Some prices are a little high. But understandable given that its a smaller chain.
Love this place. Its a little bougie haven of a grocery store, with a lovely selection of plants for a place thats not primarily a nursery. Also has a great selection of beer and cider/wine, etc. We go out of our way to get specialty/favorite beer and cider from here. Its a little pricey, but worth it for those specialty and local brands we love.
Bakery is absolutely terrible and a ripoff. Everything tasted super synthetic and stale, worse quality than Id expect at a convenience store.
Fantastic selections available, very fresh, helpful staff, amazing beer and wine selections !
Local grocery chain. Shop local and support a local business with high quality food that care for employees :)
Our family has shopped at Pemberton Farms for decades. I enjoy their wide assortment of products
Best neighborhood grocery ever! They have handled the Covid crisis with speed, grace & immense thoughtfulness towards their customers. The three brothers care about their staff and work long hours themselves in the store. I have only shopped here over the last 3 months and always come home with something that makes me smile (a plant for my windowsill, fresh baked cookies, a treat/toy for my pet). Thank you to Mark and all the wonderful helpful workers at Pemberton.
They have such high quality food! It really worth a trip to see for yourself!
Just wanted to take a moment to share how tasty the food/meals served at Pemberton Farms are. The cornbread pudding, smore’s skillet, and peach cobbler made by Janice at the pizza station, were the perfect “after dinner mints.” The cornbread pudding is so moist and fresh you can smell the corn upon opening the container. The smore’s skillet had me reminiscing about warm summer nights by the fire makings my own smore’s – what a tasty treat to brighten these cold, wintery days. The peaches in the peach cobbler were the tastiest and generously sized peaches I have had in a long, long while. A big thank you to Janice for creating such yummy dishes! In addition to these tasty treats, the sandwiches made here at Pemberton Farms are generously portioned and impeccably delicious. My family and I must get sandwiches at least once a week from Pemberton worker, Jules. My longtime favorite is the Mayflower sandwich. This sandwich fulfills all of your Thanksgiving needs throughout the year as you await the holiday. I have never been a huge fan of turkey or even of cranberry sauce but, this sandwich is made so nicely that you get just the right amount of turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce to make for an incredibly tasty sandwich. Recently, my newly found favorite sandwich to order is the chicken caesar salad wrap. This wrap is amazing! It’s light and has just the right amount of dressing throughout and best of all, the chicken is not only delicious but, you can first handedly smell and taste just how fresh it is.All in all, thank you to Janice & Jules. My family and I are very much looking forward to ordering more treats and sandwiches from you both in the New Year!Happy Holidays to Everyone at Pemberton Farms! Thank you to everyone for your hard work during this pandemic. I appreciate all of you being essential workers!Best Wishes & Stay Safe.-Cori G.
What a treat! This place is adorable, great selection! I didnt see the cakes until I was leaving though.. 🤤
