The cajun tots are addicting. The vibe is cool - a great spot during COVID with outdoor firepits! Its usually a really long wait though so dont go when youre starving. They have a few really yummy vegan options which was a big selling point. Overall worth it!
The beds were rock hard and lumpy the pillows were lumpy and flat at the same time I dont even know how thats possible the room was nice well decorated the concept of the hotel was cool the room service I asked for two hamburgers with no pink completely pink in the center decided to give it another chance ordered room service for breakfast got the cottage potatoes hard in the center uncooked there is nothing marking the location of the check-in desk its a real mystery when you pull in there on where to go I honestly dont think its that hard for them to Mark the location of where to go when you have so many other amenities available on the property
We got what we were looking for: a mid-priced, easy wedding. Everyone was great to work with. There was no venue fee, just a minimum spent on food and drink. The food was competently done, not amazing but frankly we werent paying for amazing. Everything was handled by them with very little effort from us.The hotel is cute and quiet.
The restaurants were all amazing. But the hotel building was super dark like a cave. And was really musty. One of our two rooms smelled like dog poop and barf. The custodians tried, without success, to get the smell out. Both hotel rooms were very dark and gloomy. There restaurants partly made up for the room smell. The tavern has amazing food. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
McMenamins is a really unique place to gather with friends for a casual dining experience, or to hear some live music, as we recently did. No pressure to buy food and drinks, but youll probably want to anyway. It has both indoor and outdoor dining and music areas, so on a pleasant summers eve, its a great option.
First impression: parking and finding lobby was confusing. After that, the staff was really friendly and helpful, even going over the map with us. The hotel was really awesome, the room was not what I was expecting, it was HUGE.Kids loved the pool and it was surprisingly really warm.Cant wait to go back again and see what room we get next time and hopefully get into the Tavern. Also thank you to the staff for quickly mailing my dads lost wallet, really great customer service.
Great place to stay for awhile! They have lots of dinning choices, bars and a great pool. The landscaping is wonderful with a wide variety of plants, even an area for desert plants.
Really nice indoor pool if youre looking for some fun water time with the kids. Good size, heated water, shallow enough for toddlers to walk in for a good chunk, spacious locker rooms. Pretty much anything youd need, besides a lounging space. Best of all - free for Bothell residents 👍
In my first year of living in Bothell, which has been through the pandemic, the Anderson School has been a lifeline. The courtyard was, during those few times when I felt stir crazy, a reasonably safe place to sit with a drink and order some food. Sitting by one of the fires, with a pot of tea or a glass of wine, has become one of my favorite places to write. The staff have been consistently well trained and positive, and the McMenamins atmosphere is not to be beat. Thank you, McMenamins.
I always bring my visiting guests to Mcmenamins and they are always blown away!-amazing food-great ambiance- always top tier friendly and happy service- drink selection to rival any northwest bar- fun themed micro bars! You can spend the whole day at this place and still feel like you didn’t quite explore the whole thing!Make sure get a passport and check out their other restaurants because you’re gonna fall in love with this place!
Wow! Cant wait to come back again! Got this place for a terrific rate at ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ I enjoyed this hotel and Im so thankful I stayed at my favorite place for much less than what I normally pay.As Ive come to expect from all McMenimans establishments, the customer service is impeccable! Jamie and Tori at the front desk were extremely professional, and made my stay so awesome! Loved the food and the garden!
I didnt believe my brother even he told me about this place.. I thought it was a school still.. I got there and its like a little village with a cute shop and many amazing bars and a hotel.. everyone was very friendly and helpful.. great place
Went for a swim. Salt water. Great for the sinuses. Not a swim. Too crowded.
We love this place. Tonight, our server was nice, but didnt give us the opportunity to change up our drink order for the second round or order dessert. They were busy, so I get it, but we would have given them more money if she had waited for our answers rather than walking away. Otherwise, the food was great and a fun atmosphere, as always.
Great, unique venue. The outdoor garden area is great. The tables have real wood fire pits burning in the evening. Great atmosphere. The pool bar and pool is very cool. My only negative is that the drinks are very weak and expensive.
My family and I love Mcmenimins. In fact my sister is getting married at one next year. We typically go to the one in Tacoma. My boyfriend and I have been to this particular one 3 times. Once each with other people and once together. All 3 times we were disappointed but this last time sealed that deal. We won’t be too to this Mcmenimins again. The service was lacking. Yes I get that the world is short staffed. The server was clearly frazzled. He took orders from tables that were sat after us. He did not ask if I wanted any cream or sugar for my coffee. My boyfriend asked for no produce on his burger and they had all the produce all there. I asked for the truffle aioli and was given a little dipping bowl of Mayo. And lastly the server gave the 2 separate tables bills that weren’t theirs in fact one table hadn’t even ordered food yet. I’m vastly disappointed in this restaurant and will not be coming back.
I love coming to this place - you can bring your dogs to the outdoor seating. Very fun atmosphere, cool, eclectic decor, beautiful landscaping, and friendly service. Just be aware that they can get busy especially on the weekends (service can slow down). Some people think the food is a bit pricey, but the quality is good. Also be aware that there are several smallish fire pits (with screens), and the smoke can blow around in the breeze. So if youre sensitive to firewood smoke, Id advise caution. There are plenty of those tall patio heaters during chilly weather. Before COVID they would have live music at times on the weekends, and it could get a bit noisy. One really nice thing is that the whole neighborhood is well lit up at night, and its an attractive place to go on night walks with your dog - which Ive loved doing for a long time!
The room had a SKULL painted on the headboard. The room has multiple steps once you enter the room so its not good for those who have difficulty with stairs. Tea and coffee is available only in the lobby between 5 & 11 am with no coffee pot in the room. When you ask for tea at the front desk people are very stingy with the teabags and hot water. There was a dirty towel left in our room. One of our clean towels had strange spots on it. When we asked for a new towel we had to request it three times. There was no servicing the rooms due to Covid yet the staff wasnt wearing masks or social distancing so I think at this point they are skipping to save money. The staff was only marginally friendly. The grounds are nice.
We came to have lunch and we had our dogs with us. When we approached the host for a table, it was like pulling teeth trying to find out how to get our name in and where to wait for a table. We asked if we could get a beer while we waited and he just kind of shrugged.Once we were seated it took a while for our waiter to check in. He was very nice, so nothing bad about him, but omg what a joke.I ordered the quiche. He returned to tell me they were out. So I ordered the chicken wrap. Came back again: they were out. Asked for the soup of the day: guess what? Yes, they were out. Finally settled on the carrot/ginger soup, took one bite, and almost spit it across the table it was so bad. Grainy and I think they left out the cream.$55 for one of the worlds worst dining experience. Skip it....the reputation is undeserved
Tater tots. Thats it. Oh and an abundance of covid if thats what your into.
Very nice hotel and grounds in downtown Bothell. Wi-fi service for hotel guests connects inconsistently and is very slow, at least on Friday evening in the room. One would think youd get better Internet service at this grade of hotel. (I wonder if some of the many adjacent condos are poaching the wi-fi.) Cannot open the large window in the hotel room. Good HVAC, though the hi-tech controls take some figuring out. Room was nicely quiet even with occupied adjacent rooms. Hotel hallways are very dark. Main restaurant is good and very busy--pick your time carefully, especially for outdoor dining. Gardens are lovely and well-kept. Olympic-sized salt-water pool is superb.
This place is really cool, lots of alcoves to hang out, fire pits, just overall neat place to go.
The pork loin was delicious! Drinks are well made. Definitely enjoy coming here!
Love it here! The outdoor patio by the fire is my favorite and I appreciate the restaurant has GF options 💕
Love the atmosphere of this place. The fact that McMenamins restores old historical buildings has always seemed really cool to me. There are several different restaurants and bars here, all with their own personality and charm. I definitely plan to return, and hope the theater opens back up soon!
I would describe my experience as a mixed bag, but overall I wouldnt recommend this place unless you are looking for a unusual and unique atmosphere. The room we stayed in was big, but it was under-furnished and felt a little empty. In the bathroom there was only one small glass shelf in the bathroom (maybe 6 by 2?) which is enough room for one persons stuff, very disproportionate to a room with a queen size bed and a hide-a-bed couch. There are no basic amenities such as a refrigerator or coffee maker. Also, the floor under the couch had a good amount of dust visible on the carpet, which is my guess for went my allergies kept flaring up periodically. I wouldnt bring up the fact that I couldnt get reliable cellular service (T-Mobile) in our bottom floor room either, except their wi-fi SUCKS. Like well below the already barrel bottom standard that is free hotel wi-fi. So again, unless you are looking for a different and unique place to stay, I say look elsewhere because that aside I felt this hotel fell flat.
The staff are supper nice, the accomedations are out of the ball park. Such a great experience! The restaurants have amazing food and beverages!! Just have to mention again that all employees each place we went to was incredibly wonderful!!
We enjoy this restaurant, but not tonight. The meal was very poor quality and should not have been served - way overcooked. Restaurants are struggling to get up to speed post-pandemic, still, you have to be ready for prime time.
Pet friendly, easy check in/out, great staff. Everyone observed distance and wore masks. No room service fee due to the pandemic.Heads up: no fridge, microwave, or coffee maker in room. We managed. Also, honestly not sure why there are luggage carts bc there are stairs everywhere. Was kind of confused by that but it wasnt a deal breaker. Will definitely stay again.
Customer service at the hotel explaining the restaurant situation and Tiki Bar were amazing!!!
We ate outside for brunch. It was very comfortable and warm under the heat lamp. Menu had lots of choices. Service and good was good. Only 2 things were off with my order. I asked for no cheese in my wrap but the was cheese. I didnt say anything. My halibut chowder came cold. I did tell them about that and a piping hot bowl of chowder replaced the cold one. The waitress apologized and took it off the bill. Didnt expect it but was appreciative of it. So we will definitely be going back.
Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Fun, pretty rooms, great pool, and multiple bars and restaurants on site.
The school, the grounds, and the amenities such as the restaurants, the grounds, and the pool, are delightful to visit, as well as partake of. For instance, the flowers and trees are beginning to bloom and will soon be worth visiting again and the again through the spring and the summer--as will the Tavern on the Square with its delightful outdoor seating and filling, diverse menu.
My sister and i spent the weekend at Anderson School. It was so much fun! Spent many hours in swimming pool and the food and chocolate martinis were amazing. Thank you!
We had the Prime Rib Christmas Dinner for 4 to go. This was the best meal we have ever had. It was a whole prime rib!!! Everything was seasoned to perfection. We have enough leftovers for at least 2 more meals.Everything was ready on time and took minimal reheating. Great packaging.I just cant say enough.Excellent!!!
Fun querky tropical theme pub. Huge indoor swimming public swimming pool. Staff was great. Helpful with menu and drink suggestions. We shared the Jerk Chicken dinner for two. Fantastic! Definitely planning a return visit.
Very nice venue. Staff was accomodating and friendly.
We had the tots and asked them if we could put chlli and the beer cheese and onions on them. They obliged and it was wonderful! The burgers were cooked perfectly to are asking and tasted amazing! We sat outside next to the heaters and the fire and it was just a perfect ambiance and perfect level to have a great conversation.
This is such a fun atmosphere and place to stay!
I have come here frequently and food and service good, however since reopening after the 1st shut down the food is only so so. We had dinner over the weekend and I had the double ranch steak. DO NOT get it. It was tough and quite grisly. When I told my server it wasnt very good she dashed off before I could even explain. She missed an opportunity to explain a customers concern to the chef and/or manager. Be discerning and read reviews. Theyre very helpful. Otherwise the environment was great and food quite tasty.
This is such a cool location (like most McMenamins). Built in an old high school, you are able to explore the halls that students used to wander. There are still lockers in the halls and old school doors with numbers on them, denoting hotel room numbers now, but previously classroom numbers. As you wander the campus you will find a hidden bar on the top floor of the school building, where the principal’s office used to be. It is aptly named, the Principal’s Office, and is pretty small. They will fix you a drink before you wander further. On the grounds you have a movie theater converted from an old gym, at least two restaurants with their signature brewery included, and a full sized pool with yet another restaurant overlooking it. In the middle of all of this is a large courtyard with outdoor seating and fire pits strewn about. You get a sense of privacy as you settle in out here, while also being able to people watch and have someone checking on you.The main restaurant had pretty good food, but the service was spotty. There were a ton of people in the day we went, so we chalked it up to that, but be prepared to wait a bit here. The brewery has a shuffleboard table and other entertainment that makes for a good time as well.
Didnt stay the night so I cant speak for the hotel, but the upstairs Tiki Bar is really cool! And the drinks we ordered (zombie, mescal, and a pisco drink) were all super delicious. Bartender was friendly. I could get drunk here a lot of times.
Had the Bacon cheese burger and spicy tator toys was very good.
This place great, so much happening with great amenities and friendly staff!
Hands down the WORST customer service I have ever had.Start to finish, from the Bartenders in the restaurant above the pool, to the front desk.My Husband and I were both charged for the room, after having to both give the front desk cards at different times. We were then told by the child at the front desk upon trying to check out that he got paid minimum wage, and he didnt know what we wanted him to do for usHaving been in the service industry for 27 years, I am aware of how people react or overreact. That being said, I AND my Husband now both have pending charges on our cards for a room we used for an hour to change our children out of pool clothes in and soggy, sub par, food that we waited an hour for after waiting 30 minutes AFTER a shift change, and walking up myself to get a drink order in. There were 3 tables in the entire place. Not a glimmer of a dinner rush, let alone enough business to warrant being ignored for a half an hour.Of course after my Sister paid the first tab, the first Bartender (Who was also so frazzled and unable to handle 4 tables also ignored us and my Sisters family ) warmed up just before his departure. Were positive he was only THAT pleasant because of the massively unearned, unwarranted 20% tip. This used to be a favorite place of ours to frequent. You should do better, because the entire evening was awful for 8 people who wont be spending money there ever again.
Great place, excellent food and service. Super tasty and the drinks are delicious. Take your family there, enjoy it to the fullest.
Great atmosphere. Beautiful grounds.
When I lived in Bothell this place was THE best hang out spot for miles. Their location is right next to a heated outdoor pool as well as their amazing theater. They have pool tables and other games available and also has tables outside and occasionally a local music artist playing during summer. Their service is always amazing and their food/drinks are top quality. One of my favorite places in WA and hope you guys give this place a look!
McMenamins is a PNW mainstay and this location takes it to a new level. There are two main restaurants to choose from The Woodshop and Tavern on the Square. The Woodshop being more of their typical pub food - you must order a plate of the Cajun tots. Tavern on the Square is a bit more upscale and dishes out a mighty brunch. You wont be disappointed!
Very fun. Rubin, captain neon was great. I really liked the cajun tater tots with pepper corn ranch. The pretzel with beer cheese was awesome. I would just eat that.
Not for little kids. Our room didnt have a bathtub and you can hear every little noise on the floor above. Alarm clock was set to 6 am so it woke us all up and about 1 minute later the noise started above us again. We werent asked about our stay at check out.
Stayed in mid September for a night. Enjoyed it. Close to everything we needed and nice to see what had become of the old school and the new Bothell. Quite a change from when we left in 2005. Room was appointed nicely, couch included, the light fixtures were quite a selection. The history throughout was nice.
So glad this place survived the pandemic, its wonderful in so many ways.
The outdoor fire pits are my favorite! Makes clear spring nights very enjoyable. The Terminator brew is my favorite!
Good food and drinks, and you dont have to leave at closing time.
The WoodShop has great outdoor seating with fire pits and patio heaters. There are tasty happy hour bites from 3-6 pm. Theres a couple pool tables inside.
Atmosphere is really cool. However, today the service was pretty slow and the good lacked quality for the price.
Always enjoy my visits here. Theyve done a great job during this time of keeping things clean, giving space to their customers, and providing plenty of outdoor seating.
Kid and pet friendly! Room was quaint, no fridge or microwave, but all the same was nicely done. Something to do for the whole family, from an indoor heated pool to a full bar and restaurant. We had a great time! I will be back,if only to enjoy the pool. Which I found out you can pay for a block of time in the pool separately from staying in the hotel.
Cannot go wrong with a McMenamins. Fun art, great food, amazing drinks, and atmosphere is always entertaining.
Was very nice and cozy looking forward to going back and exploring it more!
Ive loved the Mcmenamins style for years. I thought the outdoor seating was a bit crowded. Its impossible to walk around and maintain 6 ft distance. However ordering food and beer to go and taking back to my room was great.
Garden is full of beautiful and exotic plants.
Came here for some food and a drink while my daughter went on the free swim. The drinks and apps were good, but my daughter asked not to be enrolled on the class.
Pretty good tots, wished it stayed open late!
We love this place!!!! Everything about it is great!!
Its so corporate now. McMenamins is no longer destinations I want to go to. I started my journey with the stamps 8 years ago and all the new protocols it makes visits make it not worthy. I highly dont recommend. Food and drink prices have risen so much, its just not worth it.
Great experience as usual at all the mcminna mins weve been to ! Thanks in advance for our next stay.
Super fun little overnight getaway! Staff was all super friendly, lots of food and drink options, and a wonderful pool! 10/10!
Big fan of McMenamins, just not this one. While the buildings look right, the experience is definitely not. Its like they put an applebees in and wrapped it in McMenamins clothing. Nothing terrible but not what we are used to. Food is expensive and not very good.
Shhh. It should be a secret!!!! A little cold getting out of warm water. Changing room somewhat crowded at times. Very crowded right at top of hour as people are trying to leave the pool as people are trying to enter on one set of steps. Face masks strongly encouraged but many people are wearing incorrectly or forget to replace promptly before leaving or entering the pool.
Beautiful gardens and venue, great service.
We stayed here recently and have never felt more disrespected and targeted during our stay from the staff and the customers alike. It was a horrible experience and wouldn’t suggest staying at this hotel if you’re looking for a fun night out.
Ive visited this location two times. Of the three McMenamins location this is so far my least favorite but Id still go back for another stay. On the forth of July there were fireworks all around the location, that were not hosted by the hotel (free show!) There are many bars located around d the Court yard are and the staff and other guest always makes these locations so much fun. Make sure you bring your swimming gear if you plan at staying at this location, the indoor pool is amazing. There is a bar/restaurant above the pool which is amazing after you take a dip in the heated pool.
There are several restaurants and bars on property, including awesome outdoor spaces with coverings and fire pits for year-round use. They make their own beers and spirits and offer a range of menu items to fit pretty much any mood.
We love the McMenamins properties and are frequent guests at them, that said this was our first time at Anderson School. For the 2 nights we stayed we had to park in overflow parking with a grueling walk with luggage because the parking lot is packed. Though it is large we found that residents have free access to the pool (like the guests) but this leads to no parking and a crowded environment for amenities that we paid for. For room service we tried over 25 minutes to call and left a voicemail to the restaurant with no success. They also have dog areas that seem like a afterthought as there was no real area for them other than a small trail with garden on both sides right next to the busy road. Our dogs were leashed but the road is very intimidating for being the dog area. This was also probably the loudest location we’ve stayed at in the way we could hear the front doors close every time someone entered or exited. This is not a mcmenamins location I will be staying at again, which is disappointing as the town of Bothell was so appealing I looked up apartments while visiting!
McMenamins knows how to do hospitality right. Anderson School is one of their many locations where they refurbish an old building/facility to create a unique hotel and dining experience. The details in their design and artwork create a truly exceptional atmosphere, honoring the history of the building and its former occupants. Even with the necessity of dining outside in the chill of winter due to COVID, their courtyard provides great atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and comfortable as well, each one unique. To top it all off, the service is great. McMenamins will always be one of my all time favorites.
Warning!!! the pool closes an hour early on Tuesday and there is no movie available. However you are still paying full price.
We had a great time and the accommodations were awesome! Nice rooms, good service, plenty of outdoor dining with heaters, friendly people, plenty of places to take your dogs,... This is basically an oasis in the middle of the COVID-19 lock down land.
Really fun property to walk around but our room was not nearly as ornate as a typical Mcmennamins hotel room. The only hand painted border in the bathroom seemed out of place and the room chair was so visibly dirty we wouldnt sit in it. The food was also blah, which never happens so must of been an off day for Mcmennamins.
Tons of outdoor 🔥 pits and food had definitely improved over the last year.
Nice renovation and reimagination of an old school. Lots of different areas to explore. Very good beer, wine and sprit selections. Fantastic pool.
The hotel was a great unique experience and is a fun destination place to stay.
Got a great deal on a great room to spend an evening with our daughter for her birthday! Great place to go to still given whats going on!
Multiple themes, very clean, excellent staff, beautiful amenities. Recommend for vacation or simple weekend stay. 5 stars
1 star for the front desk staff and the nice hotel room, plus The Woodshop. My husband went for a drink by himself while I situated our toddler in our room. A man sat him at a table, no issue and took his order. Then, a rude waitress with the short buzz cut at the Tiki Bar didnt like my husbands mask, so she decided to yell at him in the bar in front of everyone and said if you ever come back in here with that mask, Ill make sure you dont get served and Ill take it up with hotel management. My husband then forced to explain has a medical condition, but his mask was still in compliance (and properly worn) with the mandate. She proceeded to fight with him before eventually leaving him alone to finish his drink. My husband is requires a specialty mask that was provided by his VA Doctor, I dont think that means he should be denied food or denied service because he has a medical condition he cant control, and not once did this waitress offer an accommodation if she didnt want to serve him, which is required per mandates. The govenors orders strictly state those who are under 5, or have medical conditions are exempt from even wearing a mask period, but he still wears what he can to not make everyone else uncomfortable, but he served his country and gained a disability from it, which he shouldnt be publically humiliated and forced to disclose his condition to everyone inside a restaurant. Of course, the hotel gladly welcomed us, took our money and never said anything about our masks. So my husband went and spoke to the front desk, who apologized and said we wouldnt have issues at any other restaurant. So we went to the woodshop for dinner, and were seated in the back room no issue. The staff was friendly and the food was a 4/5. The theater was closed, which we were hoping would be open by now even if its old films. The principals office was also closed. So last thing to do was swim. Of course, The pool was closed because of the fog. Considering we only paid for 1 night, there was virtually nothing to do so we asked to leave, and thankfully staff said we could. For almost $250 a night, it just wasnt worth the stay. The room was nice, would have appreciated a mini fridge, and it was awesome there was a safe in the room, but the only disappointment is the usual TV. Cable sucks and you spend most of your time watching advertising. A DVD player would have been awesome, and maybe rentable movies from the front desk. We will likely never be back though.
Amazing hotels amazing food and amazing pool. Why isn’t this a four or five star hotel?
