My sons school orchestra teacher wanted them to buy a Clarinet in A. We went to Virtuosity Musical Instruments, they offered a new non-professional grade and a used professional grade, we asked if we could trade in with an used Clarinet and they agreed. Then my son took the two clarinets to his turors house, after trial his tutor said the used tone was good and suggested buying this, so we bought it on Wednesday.Friday morning my son took it to school for rehearsal and found that the clarinet started leaking after about one hour of use. In the afternoon I took the clarinet to Virtuosity to return and buy a new Clarinet in A, the clerk said they wouldnt have the new R13 until next January, so I had to return it, but he insisted to charge me $200 for restocking fee, even though I told him it was quality issue with the clarinet.Failure in not having a long trial before buying, a disappointing experience.
Steve, the owner, and Brett, the woodwind specialist, are consumate professionals. They are dedicated to making sure that when you visit you are taken care of as well as answering any questions that you may have. My daughter tried 6 clarinets out before making her decision. She is very happy as are we with the decision she made as well as taking the three hour trip to Boston for the purchase.Thank you again for making us feel welcome and we will continue to do business with you as she pursues her music minor in college.
I recently gave a flute recital at Virtuosity and had such a great experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful with setting up the space and the audio. I was able to get the video recording of the concert and the recording quality is great. It’s a really unique venue! I will definitely be performing and recording here again.
Made an appointment to play test + purchase sax mouthpieces for alto and tenor. Such a great experience! The guys in the shop were super welcoming and kind. They didnt rush me at all and made sure I got to try everything I wanted. Ill be returning for all my saxophone needs and will be recommending Virtuosity to my music pals. Thanks!!
I have been to Virtuosity on several occasions and each time was a great experience! Most recently, I stopped in to try out some trombones from their collection. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I ended up purchasing a used bass trombone for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend checking out the store if you are in the area! Also, be sure to ask about their coffee machine!
Came in because I thought I would pop into Rayburn and was pleasantly surprised to see a great shop. Very helpful with what I needed to get through my next gig. Ill be back when Im in the area again!
Stopping at Virtuosity is a must if you are in the Boston area! I just recently visited and ended up purchasing a used trombone and several accessories. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable and the selection is great. The stores online presence is also fun, informative, and promotes performers and the community- a great representation of what you will find in-person!
Fantastic place! Staff is super knowledgeable and helpful, repair techs are top-notch, and the equipment selection is incredible! And on top of being the place to go for retail, there are a ton of phenomenal groups playing on the performance series!
I purchased 2 Trumpets there. Competitive prices and owner or general Manager plays the Trumpet and is very knowledgeable and helpful and fair and honest. Simply the best place in the world to purchase your brass instrument. They also accept a trade inn at reasonable pricing. Truly caring people; they really run the extra miles with you!
Being able to help my student with solid video and audio feed Zoom playing session was super helpful to the student, me, and her mother. It was her first step-up trombone and it resulted in a BIG step up. The student ended up with a new favorite possession. The parent felt much more comfortable having teacher confirmation of the student’s ultimate choice. And I felt confident that she walked out with an instrument that will carry her forward for quite a few years. It’s great that Virtuosity has set up this adaptation that makes for a smooth and almost normal tryout session in these cautious times. Link up for the session was easy and quick with great visual and audio. Thanks Alek!
Great variety of products. Very friendly staff. Thanks Alek
Ive purchased three great saxophones from here. They not only have a fascinating selection of mid and pro level horns, but the staff is amazingly knowledgeable and helpful; whether you need some new reeds, looking for a change of setup, need advice on a new sax or are looking for something in particular that they can help you hunt down (Thanks for finding my Yani bari!!!)
Intimate setting perfect for live performances 💯✨👌
People are great and very knowledgeable.
Alec and Brett are awesome, super cool, and professional men. They fixed my alto sax in an astonishing amount of time. They also offered me to try out a few of their horns. I did a quick jam on a Yangasawa. This is one of the best music stores Ive visited and I lived in several major US cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago.
This is the best music store Ive ever seen regarding brass instruments. Absolutely recommend this fabulous store to every brass player! Very big veriety of new and really rare brass instruments, especially trumpets! You can try and buy new, used or trade your instruments here. Ther is not a lot of mouthpieces unfortunately. But a lot of accessories like mutes, stands etc. Good fitting room allows you to compare instruments properly. Very friendly and helpful staff, thank you guys!
Awesome experience! My daughter was looking to step up to a pro quality horn. The staff took a lot of time to help her find the right one for her. Recommended.
We are renting a flute for my daughter. They had the flute ready in about a day, and it was super easy to pick it up. And they are so nice!
Super patient and very helpful, highly professional. Awesome shop.
Got my first instrument here back in 94. Owners are wonderful!
Steve, the owner was incredibly patient, knowledgeable and generous with his time. Selection is outstanding! I highly recommend it! Metered parking reasonably available on blocks all around
Its beautiful and love walking in the shop
Great staff cool vibe
I recently traded in a saxophone for a soprano saxophone at this shop. The horn plays very well and I found the sales help to be very kind and informative. I was happy to see that at Virtuosity, the customer (whether amateur or professional) is treated equally well. It is a welcoming environment and I would highly recommend it to anyone!!!
Excellent experience here at this music store. I was in the market for a new tenor, and had called here prior to visiting. They said they had a few choices and that I should swing by to try them out. I went a few days later and was greeted by Brett, who was very helpful. I was able to try out six different horns at my own leisure and didnt feel pressured in the slightest. When it came down to making a decision between two horns that I liked, Brett again was very helpful in talking over my decisions.I always love to try to get a deal. Normally when buying something I like to try and get a better deal than what is listed. I was able to get a very nice horn, with a VERY nice case, plus some reeds included in the sale. There was nothing for me to do! No haggling involved, as they had given a very fair price and a very fair deal. I would recommend anyone in the Boston area who is looking for a new horn to come and visit this store.
All around an amazing experience. I walked in with dreams of owning my own trombone, knowing that the options I loved would be way out of my price range. The salesman who helped me was knowledgeable, personable, and extremely helpful.I tried around 6 different horns ranging greatly in price, and based on my reactions to each horn he was able to find me a horn that not only spoke to me but was also in my price range, a 1959 Boosey & Hawkes. I could not be happier, and have never been more excited to play boring exercises. The wand picks the wizard!
I love this shop. Steve, the owner, is an incredibly nice man with knowledge over all the horns he has in his shop. His stock rotates regularly so if you dont find something you like, there will be new horns in a week. Hes quick to give advice on anything you ask and has the experience to back it up.
I sent an email to boston virtuosity asking about shipping to canada. After a few exchanges of emails they were able to ship my order! The customer service is absolutely fantastic, Brett from boston virtuosity is very nice, professional and I got a response almost instantly!11/10 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDI am going to shop here for anything that I might need, great job!
The experience you get at this place is just amazing. They may not have everything in stock, but whatever they do have they will let you try. If youre not sure what you are looking for, the people are really friendly and will help you find whatever you need. Highly recommend.
Virtuosity is to horns as Olivanders is to magic wands. Dont plan to get in and out quickly, but they WILL find you the perfect horn for you
Very fast and highly competent trumpet repair. Im impressed and will be back.
Best place around to get your hands on some beautiful instruments. Knowledgeable staff, good prices and conveniently located across the street from Symphony hall.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Steve is willing to work with you to get you exactly what you need. They welcome people to stop in and take a look around. Nice to see a great shop take over Rayburn Musics old retail space!
The best sax and brass instrument store in Boston by far. Them and ACB are definitely the most prominent stored in the entire Greater Boston Area. I recently bought a C Trumpet from them and Steve was super helpful and even let me try out the instrument for a week. Exceptional selection of instruments and exceptional service.
Quick repairs, knowledgeable staff, coffee, and great conversation! Best music store in Boston!
The guys there are impeccably polite and insightful. I have never had a bad experience there.
This is a delightful store for any brass or woodwind player. The stock of instruments and accessories is extensive; the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. A special treat is the amazing collection of goofy rare Dr. Seuss-ish musical instruments. You cant miss it this!
I live in Los Angeles and called the store about an item they had in stock that no one else had. Received very quick and knowledgeable service and extremely fast shipping to LA.Support this awesome store!
Steve and crew are the best! I have taken many horns to Rick for repair and appreciate his skill. Thanks for being in town
Expert sales & service and ample high-quality stock, in an ideal location for professional musicians and serious students!
Always knowledgeable and helpful staff, and a great selection of instruments and parts.
Best place in boston for all your brass needs!
Great staff, high quality, no bargains as all the instruments are top shelf. For the serious musician.
Very knowledgable and helpful. We were looking for high intermediate trumpet for my son - used. They laid out 3 in our range plus a new Bach Strad for comparison. As my son compared trumpets several more were brought out with some pros and cons of each described. Very helpful without being pushy, even suggested my son defer getting a new mouthpiece. Wish every business had people who are so expert in their field and also so professional.
They have a wide range of instruments and accessories from very high quality to very affordable but still professional. Staff is friendly and highly knowledgeable. They make Rayburns music shop obsolete.
The instruments are jaw-droppingly beautiful, the staff is knowledgeable and not at all pushy. Fantastic place.
They were very friendly when I brought my young son here to buy saxophone reeds. Beautiful wind and brass instrument shop.
Very nice staff and good saxophones!
Staff is super friendly and helpful. Especially nice since I havent played in a few years and have no idea what Im talking about anymore.
Great staff, great selection.
The staff are always polite and knowledgeable. A man named Brett helped me select a tenor sax mouthpiece.
Only stopped by to ask about guitars which they didnt have. Clean store and friendly staff. I wasnt able to do any transactions. Parking would be very challenging at this location.
Staffs were knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you
Beautiful store and outstanding service
Staff are super nice, and will help you find what you need in a flash!
Outstanding service and products.
Unquestionably the best woodwind / brasswind shop in New England.
A great selection of horns. Exactly what Ive been waiting for in the Boston area!!!
My daughter was choosing a clarinet, and they made the experience quite special.
