The BEST donut I have ever got. The donut itself (not consider coating) was insane. Very soft and melt in your mouth when you bite it. Definitely try out the classic blackbird donut. You will know what I’m talking about. Many other flavors have their own specialty. Choose the flavor you’re more into. They are all decent. This will be the only place I’m getting donut from now on.
!Honestly! I am legitimately confused with all of this best donut chatter. Its such a shame when it appears that most people have not actually had good quality, tasty, mouth-watering, delicious donut before. If thats what youre looking for, look elsewhere! I went there yesterday to get a donut. This donut literally tastes like Wonder Bread with sugar on it. The donut had a peach filling. The filling was so bitter I couldnt even finish it. Im usually a if I bought it, Im going to eat it, type of person. I didnt even finish it. I trashed it. Go to ANY run-of-the-mill Bakery in Boston or surrounding areas and theyre sure to blow this place away. Yuk!
Honestly not that great. Dunkin is fine and half the price. For a Boston cream and the custard was gritty...I did go at 2:30 so maybe they werent good by then
Blackbird Doughnuts is hands down my favorite doughnut place in America even though Ive only gone once myself. I try the donuts every new place I go and Blackbird is still the 10/10 standard against which I measure every other place. Their chocolate cake doughnut haunts my dreams and any time my husband travels to Boston for work he takes a Tupperware with him so he can bring me back doughnuts from Blackbird with him on the plane. You guys have my heart, truly you are perfection.
A kind of frou-frou donut place (with vegan options, which is nice for those interested). Coffee was nothing special. The donuts were good but not sure they live up to the hype or increased price. I liked their blueberry-filled and Boston cream flavors the best; the eponymous “Blackbird” was fine but no more notable than a regular vanilla glazed donut. The apple pie donut was fine at first, but I did not like the filling; it was too sour. Anyway, I think it’s worth stopping by to grab a donut, every now and then.
Blackbird Donuts you have stolen my heart! Not only are the regular donuts amazing, but they have options that are very good for people with some allergies. This is something that is not common at a lot of donut places in Boston so I am glad to be able to pick some up for my children, who have nut allergies. Great work Blackbird!
Excellent flavors like banana cream and ice cream cone. Chocolate is not too sweet. Very expensive but worth it.
Ive never had a bad experience at Blackbird. I love that theyre local chains that carries vegan donuts, though I wish they would have more than a couple options at a time! Vegan brioche dough is no easy feat, but my most recent trip to Blackbird convinced me that theyve perfected it.
Located right around the corner from Fenway Park, this donut/coffee shop is a must visit. Walked in on Patriots day, place was clean and had just opened. Rowan and Sydney were friendly and told me the javaberry donut was good. They were incorrect as it was spectacular. This is the only coffee shop that I will drink the coffee black from the urn. Coffee was a dark roast, well-balanced and smooth.
Delicious and creative donuts. Plus, Ive NEVER had a negative experience with the staff here, who are truly lovely. Highly recommend.
Ordered on “Toast” for easy in store pick-up. My favorite donut shop around Boston. Highly recommend going early if possible as special flavors sells out fast. Even ordering ahead on the app does not grantee getting what you want, they only pack your order as your pic up time comes close base on availability.
Unique selection of donuts that is hard to beat! We’ve been to Blackbird a number of times and we always order a different flavor donut and we’re never disappointed. This time we ordered the marshmallow coconut and the citrus traditional donut and they were both delicious. My recommendation is to get to the store early in the day before some of the flavors sell out for the day.
Amazing donuts, to rival the once glorious and now sadly defunct Vernas. Flavors are innovative yet unaccountably tasty -- cookie milk, the blackbird are my favorite, and purple cow as well as several vegan flavors are solid too. Coffee is good, and if you want to splurge, order a cold brew coffee ice cream float.
Simply outstanding donuts. Light, fluffy, and delicious. Up there with other great local donut shops. This place is a hidden gem for donuts.
Great donut spot - blackbird has the best flavor profiles, but union square is just better donuts IMO
My favorite local doughnut shop! Pictured is their Chocolate Old Fashioned cake doughnut, which is just the right level of sweetness and very moist. Also pictured is their loyalty card.I am more a fan of the risen doughnuts, which have a less sweet dough and are more airy. My favorite is the Boston Cream- the vanilla custard is so flavorful, I think they must use real whole vanilla bean in it.The workers are also great- their kindness and energy is infectious, even at 7am!
I have been here a few times over the past three years and I always enjoy the donuts. From my most recent visit, I tried a few donuts. They all tasted fresh. The apple cider glazed donut is a hefty yeast donut. This is not the kind of donut that melts in your mouth. There were some lovely crispy bits on the outside and the donut has a very satisfying chewiness. The flavor is very nice and delicate. The apple cider donut is also heavier than your typical farmstand donut with more chewiness than crumbliness. It is rolled in cinnamon sugar and does not have the distinct floral flavor that a farmstand cider donut typically has. It is a very light, subtle flavor that I appreciated but my husband was less enthused about. The chocolate cranberry donut is a cake donut with a rich chocolate crumb that fell apart perfectly while maintaining a satisfying bite. If I am in the area I do prefer to come to Blackbird over Union Square Donuts (across the street in the food hall) as the donuts taste fresher at Blackbird.
The workers here are super helpful! I came here from word of mouth not sure what to order. I asked and got some really great suggestions. So shout out to the staff for their friendliness! The doughnuts are on the thicker side which I like. It has a nice chew to it. Theyre not too sweet either. At least not the ones I got which were the marshmallow coconut, vanilla glaze, cookie milk and guiness. Out of the 4 the guiness was totally my favorite! Very delicious. I think the only downside if there was to be one is theres no where to sit so obviously its aimed towards to go. But other than that a great spot to try out gourmet doughnuts.
The black bird donuts sold out when I got there. Got a coconut instead. Was decent and sweet.
Overpriced subpar donuts
Never been much of a donut person but this place is to DIE FOR. Seasonal flavors are always on point and the classics are amazing too.
Blackbird is a solid choice in getting doughnuts, impressive especially with being so close to Union Square. Vanilla Glaze for being simple is very good with the dough being delicious. The doughnuts are also never too sweet instead having a wonderful balance of flavors. Blackbird gets a 10/10
They are good, but they dont blow me away. There are better ones in the city. I prefer Union Square. Had a boston cream donut and the cream was just off, the chocolate on top was fine. No one else in the group we brought the donuts to was particularly overwhelmed. This is one of those times when I see all the 5 stars and say, what am I missing, or did we get bad donuts?
Friendly staff, amazing donuts, ok coffee
One of the greatest donuts in Boston. Excellent local donut that you would not find anywhere. Quality is outstanding! The dough is perfect and it is very flavorful. There are many choices available for you to pick. Guarantee the freshness and the taste. Friendly reminder: you dont want to miss trying the donut ice-cream sandwich!
Delicious doughnuts and coffee! They always have interesting flavors to try.
Honestly, Im not a fan of sweets. My wife loves them and Im willing to take her anywhere, but it is a place for people with a taste for sugar. Very clean and nice staff.
Tried the Boston Cream donut and was probably the best we had. The dough has a little chewy texture which is awesome. Also had the cold brew for $4.5 which is decent.
This place is so good, they run out of certain types of donuts before noon. Its nuts.Seriously, though, this place has some of the best donuts in the area. The texture is decadent and cake-like, almost like fresh Jamaican Festival (without the oil.) It blows chain donut shops out of the water, and its because they have their donuts baked locally. Its a small property, so its not quite on-site, but if you happen to catch them offloading their truck early in the morning, definitely wait around for opening. The place is really pricey though - a $3.50 donut may be a bit more than youre willing to spend on your morning sugar dose, and its entirely pointless to go for coffee in a specialty donut place (ESPECIALLY with Nero a block away.) Its best saved as a rare pastry treat. Or you might have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket - who am I to judge, Im broke. Two things Ill judge them for, and the reason Im detracting a star. Their Boston Creme donuts, as is the standard for any good BC donut, are filled to the brim with creme custard. The issue arises from the fact that the custard is a good bit thinner and less viscous than one would expect, and biting/squeezing too hard on the center can cause... collateral damage. Additionally, their flavor-glazed donuts are a bit thin on the glaze, which is fine, because the donut itself is delicious, but would it really kill them to thicken the glaze layer a bit?Overall, excellent little joint to get a treat.
The best donuts in the country. I always stop in when Im in the neighborhood. I got the scallion pancake donut my last visit and it rocked my world. So good!
Wonderful doughnuts in interesting flavors! A bit pricey but worth every cent. Just get there earlier in the day for the best selection!
Best Boston-based donut company. Appreciate that they have more changes in their menu compared to Union Square.
Good but I don’t understand why the donuts cost 3+ when they’re way smaller and you can get larger ones at Union Square Donuts that are just as good/better
The donuts were oily and chewy. The only one worth the trip was the chocolate gazed. Otherwise, save your money.
A small but great selection of donuts! Fresh and succulent (or moist if you will) so they almost melt in your mouth. Flavors are a bit on the fancy side but all worth it. On draft cold brew coffee is a great addition.
My mouth is watering as I write this. This place has SUCH great donuts. They are a true donut shop and they have all sorts of unique flavors to try. The only issue is that there is no seating
If I could, I would give this place 3 1/2. In places like this, I look for clever flavor combinations that make sense. Blackbird nailed this, mostly. Some of their donuts, like the ice cream cake Bismarck (I had) and the mango mojito (I didn’t have) did perfectly. But others, like their cookie doughnut (literally a fried ring of cookie) fell short. They had a nice amount of doughnuts on display. I have been to this location twice, both at around 5-5:30pm. The donuts were very, very dry. Case and point, you are overpaying for “designer” donuts. However, I look forward to see what they do in the future.
Tasty donuts with an evolving selection of both sweet and savory. Innovative and delicious. Would get 5/5 except unfortunately theres not seating and still not quite at the level of Union Square Donuts.
Ruined my morning... don’t bother paying attention to what you order, they clearly just grab whatever and put it on a bag. terrible service
Seriously? $3 for a glazed doughnut?!?!? I had higher expectation for this place based on the awesome reviews. Got a vanilla glazed and it tasted like a day old doughnut. Maybe other flavors are better but this review is solely based on the vanilla glazed.
OK the donuts are just amazing. I got a chocolate glazed donut and honestly the donut was as rich as chocolate cake.
The donuts were fresh and tasty. The didnt have much variety. But they were very friendly.
The South End location is a 5 star establishment. The donut ice cream sandwiches are, by far, the best dessert in Boston. I wanted to pay a visit to the new location, get myself an ice cream donut sandwich, but they didnt any. They are never going to have a soft serve machine and this was very disappointing to me. Yes, the donuts are still Blackbird quality, but the whole thing they have going on in the South End is lost in the Fenway location. I hope, with time, they figure out the ice cream situation and earn back my love.
Amazing doughnuts! 🍩 little to no seating however the food is excellent for a quick sweet snack
Just saw an employee throwing away dozens of donuts at the end of the day that could easily be donated.
Had high hopes based on reviews, but the doughnuts were overall just ok. Not wowed and would not necessarily recommend as a must try. They did have interesting flavors (the savory take on the everything bagel, which was interesting but could still taste the sweetness in the batter in the dough so it was not entirely pleasant). The best ones in our opinion were the simple sugar doughnuts. It was busy on a Saturday morning so it was helpful they had the donuts available on display to keep the line moving. Wished they had a full coffee bar instead of just the iced/regular coffee options.
Tasty and unique doughnuts. Coffee was good.
Best donuts on earth tbh
Incredible donuts and great coffee, what more could you want?
The spicy hot chocolate doughnut was the perfect combination of decadent chocolate cake topped with rich chocolate ganache and a touch of spice!
The donuts are amazing and the staff is extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. A+
This shop has the most outrageously tasty donuts including one of the most welcoming workers Kaluay .
Donuts are way too sweet and way too oily. Ive had one good one, but cant stand most of them, and the selection is pretty uniform in its style. Theyre far too pricey for what you get; Id prefer a cheap one from Dunkin Donuts. The coffee is fine, but there is better nearby.Theres nowhere to sit down, except a bunch outside.
Small shop, but a solid selection of donuts. You can eat outside on the bench if you like.
Good donuts. Love their seasonal options.
Love this place. Awesome doughnuts.
Great doughnuts at fair prices. Good coffee also. Very nice small pop-up location.
This outpost of Blackbird Doughnuts has the same caliber quality and variety as the flagship location—these decadent, cakey donuts are the best in town. Several seasonal options for donuts and drinks (not to mention their donut ice cream sammies)! Also got a free donut here one time right before they closed!
Good service, they only had glazed because I arrived 40 minutes before closing and most donuts were sold out, but still very good donut(glazed) & coffee
One of the best doughnuts Ive ever had. Its a small location though and the seating is very limited to say the least. Expect to take it to go.
I can see why they have a lot of great reviews.
Absolutely perfect doughnuts! I had a vanilla glaze, which was the perfect amount of chewy. Their confections are all substantial, and are sure to please anyone who enjoys a good doughnut.
Had a lemon berry swirl donut. Very tasty. I was a bit disappointed that they were out of a few flavors and at three dollars a donut its a bit pricey. This is a storefront only- cried and no place to sit.
Coffee is great, donut selection is extensive and every one Ive tried has been very good! Only seating is a couple benches outside though.
Melt in your mouth donuts. Cant be beat. Get there early, many flavors sell out fast.
Pricey but worth it
Not bad but the cream in our donuts was way too liquid and its too oily.Cant beat Union SQ donuts
As good as the other one, which is to say amazing. Its is also a small location with only a counter for pickup.
The changing variety of doughnut flavors and supreme quality warrants repeated visits. I look for excuses to drive into town for these pieces of heaven.
Forget Drunken and Starshucks .. Blackbird has awesome donuts, fresh bold coffee, and friendly people at reasonable prices
Top 2 of best donut Ive ever had. Not sure its worth $3 per donut though.
The best doughnuts ever! Our favourites are: Boston cream, the blackbird and strawberry rhubarb.
I love going down to Boston and just nomming on doughnuts. Their doughnuts are always delicious and fresh :) will be back again! And again and again :)
Love this place! Best donuts around, get there early or youll miss out on the good ones!
Amazing and huge. Need to go back to try other varieties.
DECAF NITRO COLD BREWDECAF NITRO COLD BREWDECAF NITRO COLD BREWyou guys I cannot possibly express how exciting this is I mean nowhere literally nowhere else have I found this and its delicious and now I am finally complete...oh and the donuts are good, too. super dense, but tasty.
Good cheap cofee 2,50 large one, and you can choose to put milk, soy milk, crean.
Best donuts in boston. Everything bagel donut will change your life
Eh, not for me
I had a live of glass on my doing. I still have a recipt and picture.
The cake donut was alright, but otherwise they ranged from mediocre (peach filled) to so-bad-we-threw-away (chocolate sprinkle). As a fat guy, needing to throw away donuts is a rare travesty.
