WOWZER!! I used to trek to Chinatown for Chinese and Pan-Asian ingredients; I had convinced myself that such culinary sojourns were necessary. No more! This store has it *ALL* and then some. One bad thing: parking is a major challenge and getting in and out of the lot is an endeavor, but well worth it!

Good, Asian supermarket with just about everything you could need. Really great that there’s a food court next door as well. I would say that not all the produce is particular stellar - saw lots of browned, limp veggies - and that the meat section could use a little expansion. But for sure, a solid place to go for your Asian grocery needs.

This is the biggest oriental supermarket I have been to in Boston. Great selection and lots of fruit, vegetable, produce, frozen and dried goods to get. Wasnt too impressed unfortunately. The employees are super friendly and helpful but I was a little upset with the variety of fruits. Based on the photos on their website, I was under the impression that they would have the usual, lychee, rambutans, durian etc.. But they didnt. They did have Jjajangmen (black bean noodles) which I have trouble finding in other asian markets. I have to order them on Amazon...

Super 88 is a gem. The produce is fresh -- Ive never been disappointed by the veggies Ive gotten here (bok choy, enoki mushroom, pomegranates, clementines, napa cabbage, daikon, watercress, etc) -- and the prices are very reasonable (especially with occasional big sales on cabbage and daikon). I havent been so impressed by the meat selection -- the thinly sliced pork we got was really weird. I come here mainly for vegetables and sauces. They also have a good frozen section with staples like spring roll wrappers. Overall the prices are much cheaper than the Cambridge Hmart. Just watch out for expiration dates on some of the shelf items -- many of the hotpot broths are expired when I check them. I find that my money stretches further when I shop here vs. other local Asian markets, and the produce is very fresh!

Shoppers beware - please make sure to check the expiration date on the products you purchase here, even the dry packaged goods. Was very excited to find this market that stocked a good selection of asian foods I couldnt already find in Hmart. However after arriving home, I had one of the snacks Id purchased and realized it was very stale. After checking the sell by date of that item and the others, I found that two of the items were past the expiration date by several months and many other snack Items i had also bought had no expiration date, which had me call into question whether they were safe to eat.I am the type of person that will always check the sell by date for perishable items, but for items like packaged snacks I generally assume that any responsible grocery store would not sell expired stock, especially if its more than a month expired. I can understand if produce is a day old and still on the shelves, or if dry goods are a few days old. But if a supermarket is selling an item that is more than 3 months old, I have to assume theyre extremely neglectful with their health standards or they are purposefully trying to push expired merchandise.

It seems like the store rearranges and changes its inventory every few months. I’ve known the store since its advent with bravos & fanfares for locals who had been waiting for such an Asian foods carrier of this large size. The store has changed. I myself was out and in and out in repetitions to and from Brighton. The point of my review? This is a very good store. I want it to be even better. Please consider carrying “Salad Dressing: Gomaya-San no Goma Dressing” AND “Myojo Chukazanmai”. For those items to get, I yesterday (9/21/20) traveled into the upside down construction going on&on site of Somerville for Reliable Market (another good store!) to visit. AND in the area, I was mesmerized, lost, turned&turned. In short, my life would not have been so enthusiastically Goma-Chuka (combined) labyrinthine, if the Super 88 had carried those items.

The selection can vary from visit to visit, but on average their inventory for what I desire (mainly dried fruit and snacks) is adequate. I personally dont know what this super88 main Target is. Its in Allston/Brighton, so I would assume its college kids, but yet they have a whole seafood department, when was the last time a college student made whole fresh fish? But they have a sparse meat department. Its just weird and out of place. And as like any other Chinese super market, the ailes are cramped, parking lot has tiny small car spaces, dirty, and because of the location, the items are more expensive as well. They have some stuff but dont have what you need unless you are going in to buy crackers and drinks. Other than that, I recommend folks to just walk a block over to Star Market.
