The lady that owns the store is so nice and helpful. You can make an appointment to go in or walk up and tell her what you are looking for. Her prices are are super reasonable. Definitely will be going back.

This bookshop is a hidden gem in the heart of Boones historic downtown. The variety of new and gently used books gives you many options. During town events the shop hosts amazing sales and has great prices year round. I also love the two cats that help the owner in the shop!

Her name is Susan and aside from catering to the needs of the two incredible cats, she manages to know where everything is that you may be interested in exploring...within her shop that is.I highly recommend this fine establishment, but only if you have the time to really experience and enjoy what has become unique in small town America.

Also features periodic events, including visiting authors & book signing. Well organized in a cozy setting with helpful staff & beautiful fluffy kitties. Friendly staff. Pet friendly store. Will accept lightly used books for store credit at great rates! I drive from Des Moines to get here! My daughters always find books that they want here & there is an age gap between the two of them. Im a bibliophile so I never have a problem. She is more than happy to order any book Im looking for if she doesnt already have it in stock.

I was thrilled we had a local book store in town but despite being repeat customers, I will not be returning to The Book Shoppe again. We had an incident where my 4 year old daughter may (or may not) have damaged the plastic on a Melissa and Doug latch board. My daughter claims it was already cracked open and she just moved the latch but shes 4, so who knows. She was looking there as I asked questions about some other items. When the owner noticed the plastic was broken over one of the latches of this board, she tried to guilt me into buying it since it wouldnt sell now. The toy itself was not damaged or it would be a different story. I said it wasnt in our budget and the owner was not at all happy. We felt this was a kid friendly shop and that toys that are at eye level for kids were okay to be touched. I left absolutely mortified and my daughter was crying by the time we got to the car, so she obviously felt the same. I guess well be going out of town to find another bookstore next time.

They always have a nice selection of previously read books available. The prices are very reasonable. They are very helpful when suggestions books and authors. They always greet you when you walk in the door. My favorite store in town. I only wish I could shop more often.

This is probably the best location for scifi/fantasy books in the area. Many of the books are in good shape with unbroken spines YAY. Also, the owner donates advanced reading copies ARCs to the local library in Boone for people to pick up. Well known in the community. Easy to get too. Be warned, if you are allergic to cats, she has two long hairs.
