Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a delicious meal. My husband ordered a sirloin steak, rare, which was cooked perfectly. I had Chicken, Leek & Mushroom Pie which was also delicious. We were both very pleased with our meal and with the service. We will definitely be returning.

Staff were so lovely and welcoming, such a clean pub and really nice inside. Very chilled and traditional atmosphere. Will definitely return! Food is really good too and average priced!!

Had Sunday lunch over the August bank holiday weekend - party of 10 + four legged friend. Love the fact that the pub is so dog friendly! The service was very good and the food excellent - would definitely recommend.

Myself and my partner had a meal here tonight for the first and last time. The waitress was very friendly as we arrived but barely gave us a minute to look at the drinks menu before coming to take the drinks order, I had literally just picked it up and felt so rushed I just said diet coke as it was all I could think of that quickly. When it came to the food we both had starters, I chose the mussels and my partner had pheasant strips..the strips were burnt to a crisp,dry and chewy, we mentioned it to a male member of staff (looked like the manager) whos response was Ive never had it come like that but it is a game bird and walked off! My mussels were lovely apart from finding a piece of plastic in them! when the waitress came to clear the plates I informed her and she said sorry about that,Ill let the chef know,hopefully round two will be better I was a bit taken aback at the fact she was so blase` however we said nothing and waited for our mains..both chose seabass with risotto. There was no salt on the table and the male staff member looked at us gone out and just said it runs out quick Ill fill it up I asked for a wedge of lemon for the seabass and was bought 3 tiny slices, not really good for squeezing over fish .We had a check back where the waitress asked is that course better for you?happy with this one? Not really the right attitudeafter the bad starters and it felt a bit sarcastic. Although the food was hot it was very bland and not worth the price at all, however we ate it with no further complaints. After the two courses we had been put off and didnt really want a dessert to just be disappointed, we asked for the bill and the waitress miserably said no dessert then when she bought the bill she did deduct the starters but was very matter of fact and again like she couldnt be bothered and offered no further apology for the fact we had a bad meal or that my food was contaminated with plastic.. The food couldve been really nice and we appreciate that things happen but how staff deal with it makes all the difference, we felt that the attitude of the staff was terrible, they really couldnt be bothered to acknowledge any of our issues and I felt like I was in the wrong for mentioning the fact I had plastic In my food, customer service was just awful. Will. Not return or recommend.

Group of four.Had a lovely meal out in the garden and then moved to a table inside once it got colder for dessert.Lovely good food and perfect environment, one way system works very well as does the facilities with a elbow operated engaged sign outside the bathroom so only one person at a time.Hand sanitisiers were full and plentiful. Staff were all attentive and wore visors the whole time.Would highly recommend and will be returning shortly to celebrate my birthday.Thank you all at the Mare and Colt.

Weve just had a lovely lunch to celebrate my daughter in laws birthday. We chose from the main menu and all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The choice available is extensive and the quality of the food is a cut above usual pub type food. Deserts were lovely too. I saw other plates of food taken to tables and noticed the enormous flaky pastry crust on the pies being served, next time maybe.The service was friendly and swift and all the necessary steps were in place to make customers and staff feel safe in the current world we live in.As if that wasnt all good enough I also got 25% off the whole bill with my gourmet card. No complaints!!😀

My wife and I went back today and both had the gourmet lamb pie which I had on our last visit 2 weeks ago. The pie I had last visit was incredible - so tasty with big chunks of lean tender lamb and the sauce it was in was amazing.Today the pie was ok but the pieces of meat were smaller and slightly fatty and the colour and taste of the sauce was so different. Have you changed your supplier?Good service but disappointed with the changed pie.

Good organisation in current times. Our waitress was excellent. Food though was average. If it was a 2 for 1 or hungry horse etc, would be OK but expected more for £ per head. Staff were great though.

The Mare and Colt has become one of our regular eating places as its a nice place to eat, foods good, reasonably priced and the staff are polite and efficient. Part of the Chef & Brewer chain its been recently refurbished and I rate it as better than their other local outlet The Running Horse.Returned to the Mare after an extended lockdown with elderly mother, food excellent service good. Promptly attended as we came in and showed to table, order rapidly taken and food and drinks delivered in very good time. No familiar faces on staff but that may be a shift thing, guess well find out over the coming weeks as were definitely going back.

Its fantastic they sell beer and wine and stuff, I didnt know places like this existed. The staff were fantastic as well, the barman asked me what I wanted to drink, so i had a pint of lager. Unfortunately I had to pay him £4.50 which came as a shock in early fainted. So beware if when you go to this place dont fall for the same trick as I did.

Easily the best pub food Ive ever had, if not the best food anywhere in the world. Ive paid ten time the amount our bill came to and never come close to quality or service. Hannah and her team seemed to treat everyone like royalty, and we certainly felt like it. Such a gem of a place... we will be back!

Booked for discount day courtesy of the government. The restaurant was well defined for keeping everyone in their bubbles and we were well served by the young waitress. The 3 of us enjoyed our meals and left well satisfied.

Visited here the other day to make use of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. The food was great and very filling. The staff were friendly and following social distancing well (felt very safe and clean). Definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon!

Had a lovely meal and was reassured to see plenty of measures in place to provide safe practice, one way system around the pub, hand sanitizer and staff wearing visors, we were even given a polite reminder from one member of staff about wearing a mask whilst moving round the pub ( my husband forgot his mask when he went to the toilet) spot on Mare +Colt 😊.

Have visited as a family twice in the last couple of weeks. First visit the food was good enough but with slooooww service. Our second visit for Sunday Roast was really poor. Two slices of barely warm fatty beef with cold veg and Yorkshire puddings made from concrete. Roast potatoes from the freezer doesnt help either. My sons sausages were very tasty, accompanied by unwashed, unpeeled carrot sticks just ruined the plate. The other two meals followed suit and arent worth mentioning. Real shame as were local and wont visit again.

This pub takes Dog Friendly to a higher level. Dog menu. Gravy bones and fresh water available on dog friendly area on a table... you dont even have to ask. Also dog mats available to use too. Will definitely revisit. 👍👍😁

Well what a treat and well done on social distancing in one way and exit one way, knives and forks fully wrapped up and pay for by app or table service. Food served to a high standard and to top the lot 50% off very impressed well done.

Very good. This place is very up and down. On this occasion it was good. The prices seem more realistic I relation to the food than they used to be. My daughter and I enjoyed it.

Staff were very nice and we were greeted and shown to a table. The pub itself is clean and tidy. We ordered from the menu and the food arrived too quickly - it shows it is a warm up and reheat meal . Frozen vegetables and microwaved mashed potatoes. We were asked if we wanted any sauces but never received them. Deserts took a lot longer we waited about 50 mins for these to arrive as the order had been lost only to receive small portions. Disappointed in the quality of the food for the price . Tried but shall not return

Stopped for a bite to eat, nice welcome, had fish and chips in the garden, ok. The staff were friendly, but not very attentive with collection of dishes,it was ok for a quick visit, would probably not return.

Very nice place to visit, staff extremely welcoming, good pub grub at a reasonable price. Whilst it was very cold outside the inside was pleasantly warm. The only thing that we were a tiny bit disappointed with was the bread and butter pudding was off the menu, we were told in advance though. Will defiantly be going back there again. Thanks to the staff that looked after us. The service was good, not rushed just as we like it.

Roast dinner not very good Rosties more like billed potatoes.Beef very chewy informed manager and changed it to for us Turkey very juicy.Crumble pie was lovely but cold and so was the custard sent it back twice and still cold there not checking with prob after heating in Microwave.Got a funny look when mention it however manager got us a fresh jug and was still cold just not getting checked.Just a shame as its a lovely pub dog friendly and not many good pubs left

DisappointingConsidering that wed all given our orders in days before our arrival it was a bit surprising that it took nearly an hour to get served. Especially so as much of it had come from a packet, although admittedly we were a large group. The chips, although pleasant enough, were frozen pack chips as were the vegetables, of which only the carrots were cooked. I had the beef and red wine pie, most of the meat was tasty and tender, luckily it was a very big portion allowing me to find sufficient pastry that wasnt over cooked and tough. The Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon was very nice and reasonably priced. However, the sorbet was dreadful, almost completely devoid of flavor and had large lumps of ice in it, as it was definitely not home made this suggests that it had thawed and then been refrozen, which is more than a bit of a concern.

Booked a table for 2.15, explained I had our disabled daughter with us plus 5 others and that was no problem, all seemed good.... Until we arrived, after half an hours journey to be told we could still have our table but would have to have ordered, eaten and finished by 3pm. Well it takes longer than most for our daughter to eat, plus we were hoping for starters and mains so we were not able to stay. Thanks!
