A big thanks for getting my boat ready in time for our trip! The engine starts right up and is running great, I have and will continue passing on referrals. UP DATE!!! Mid October and the engine and boat have performed great all season, about 3-4 days every other week. Ive already been in to thank the crew and talk about spring maintenance on this boat before I put it up for sale and going thru my new purchase to have it ready. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

I would give a negative..took in a running boat and got my boat back today, with it half torn apartboat turns but no longer stays running.. gas tanks were drained.. and found a bottle of starter fluid..explain that boat turned on a dime.. no need for the fluid..never returns calls and your boat just sits on the lot...highly not impressed

Butch and Dusty are nice guys who will go out of their way to accommodate you. However, I think this is why my last couple of experiences have been less than satisfactory! They are getting too busy and the quality of work is going down! Twice now I’ve had issues with my boat on the first trip out after having them get it ready for summer. Once was a severe fuel leak in the engine compartment and the second was an empty drive oil reservoir. Yes, I should have started my boat and checked things myself before hauling it four hours to the lake but you expect things to be done properly and thoroughly when you spend over $200. Especially things like drive oil reservoirs! I also discovered after last years winterizing that a plug was left in and the rest were missing. When I initially started taking my boat to them I received quality service. I’ve noticed them getting busier and busier and the service getting worse. I think I will be looking for a new boat mechanic.

Dusty and Butch have bent over backwards to keep my boats (2) up and running over the past 6 winters. Sometimes with a day turn around during duck season! As a waterfowl outfitter that timeliness is critical. All Mercury Sport Jets. Starters, fuel pumps, carbs, controls, cables, pumps, impellers, sleeves and stators at various times. Good service. Good advice, and more affordable than the dealerships. Thanks guys.

I lost the engine on my boat last summer. Dusty and Butch were always eager to help any way they could through the rebuild process. I had a couple small issues this Spring after bringing the boat out of storage and took it to them. They diagnosed and remedied the problem quickly. Had it out on the water last weekend and I think it is running better and has more power than before the engine failure. Good communication with them and they did what we discussed.

I spent whole last boating season trying to figure out what was wrong with my engine. It looked like my carburetor was acting up so I rebuilt it. The boat would still stall at higher RPMs. So, I took the boat to a different mechanic and he told me that it was still my carburetor and he tried to fix it. Same problems happened when I took the boat on a lake. By that time summer was over and I winterized the boat. In June this year I took my boat to Dusty. It took a while since he was really busy (advice- take your boat in early spring or fall), but he was able to figure out what was actually wrong (timing) and tuned it perfectly. Took the boat to Cooney and it performed great, no more stalling. I am a very happy customer and would recommend Big Sky boats to any boat owner. Prices are very reasonable as well.

New year, still no boat? Warranty over this year, after two years in the shop, I just said enough! Been a learning lesson, but I have given up! I will try to sell for anything I can. Its not that they couldnt fix its that they didnt give it much attention, just sat a lot, when they did work on it, its always one thing fix, another brakes!Fix for my boat would be replacing .the OMC out drive. But would need to fill in transom whole. Not worth it!Things learned, after saying he would show me receipt for the New engine, he never did.Despite what he says I still think the intake manifold was also cracked with the original block and Im getting water into a brand-new engine if indeed it is a brand-new engine? Little work has been done in the last two years, think its been nightmare for him.I just sold the boat for about half of what I put into it. End Of Story

I am the owner of Big Sky Boats and i apologize for any miscommunication that took place. And i do apologize that you were not satisfied with the work that was done. I was never comfortable with cutting a hole in the bottom of a boat to repair just a cracked transom. At no time did i lie to you about any work being done. It is my fault i didnt properly convey my intentions and what i was going to do with your boat. If I would have known that your plan was to cut a hole and put a patch I would have never taken in the job. In my opinion cutting a hole would have been unsafe and something i wouldnt have been comfortable standing behind. The weld my not have been pretty but it is structurally sound and would withstand the rocky rivers of Montana. I must say dishonest is far from an accurate description of what we do here at Big Sky Boats. We do make mistakes just like anyone, and this is a mistake in miscommunication that we will learn from and help us grow. Thanks for the honest review.DustyOwner/operatorBig Sky Boats

Ive destroyed my fair share of jet boats and there is only 2 guys that I trust to rebuild em or put a new one together. Dusty and Butch no one comes close to ensuring my attention to detail is met and a boat and engine I trust to go anywhere with.

Finally decided to buy that boat, only this 1981 SeaRay. I spent the summer of 2015 working on the boat getting ready for end of the summer fun, next was in oil change, well there goes my in the summer fun the boat has a cracked block, I didnt have much in to the boat at that point. And a new engine didnt sound all that bad.I shopped online found several engines with upgrades from 260 hp to 300 hp! Finding someone to work on it in Gillette Wyoming was a problem, so I found big sky boats in Billings! He was very enthusiastic and helpful and said there would be no problems. In September he ordered the new engine with a price that was around what I have been looking at online! So I said go ahead and order it! End of October the boat was ready for trial run, I drove up to Billings to pick up the boat. Dusty wheres the back rail for the boat Im sure they removed it to fit in the engine? And shut I ordered a new carb kit? Oh well. Got it to Gillette and tried it out on keyhole res, with instructions to break in the new engine. ( oh Im excited ) didnt last long though, engine fired rite up and ran smooth! But after 1500 RPM it just flat quit, anytime engine was under a load it quit or miss fired, two days of diagnosis including electrical I decided the problem wasnt mine and return the boat to Big Sky boats, its the end of summer and boating season so dusty tuned it and winterized it.I told Dusty I think were getting water into the intake manifold,This spring I arrange to have Dusty go out with me to Coony res where he could help diagnose problems. After confirming with Dusty three times over the phone a date was set. After having driven three hours to get to Billings by 8 oclock in the morning so we wouldnt have to spend all day doing this Dusty canceled on me ! (Phone call would of been helpful) That drove my suspicion through the roof, this guy doesnt want to get in the boat with me! And now I understand why!At this point im wondering if Dusty really bought a new engine? Or if he didnt just have a junkyard replacement. You see I have water in my oil! And I know Dusty knew that ! Getting no help from Dusty just empty promises I took the boat to another dealer !Dusty promised me a two year warranty, he knew theres water getting into the oil, he had all winter to find a replacement intake manifold, or do the right thing. Im so ashamed and hes from my county !UPDATE: after reading my review, Dusty contacted me and begged me to let him fix my boat. All right Ill give him another shot. Stay tuned !

The owner is dishonest and a hack welder. Had him work on my 2013 22 jet boat to repair a dent and hole in the bottom of my boat. We discussed in full detail what we thought needed to be done and he assured me it would look as if it never happened when he was done. Turns out he was unable to repair it himself so he had another shop throw a bird poop looking weld on it to patch the hole. Crap work done by a shady business.
