I cant imagine the last three months without Metropolitan Breastfeeding. I contacted them when my son was a week old and I had just started exclusively pumping because the pain and nipple damage from breastfeeding had become unsustainable. Jessi came to my house the next day and set the tone for every interaction Ive had with the team ever since: compassionate, thorough, knowledgeable, and just incredibly invested and kind. Its been a long road (including another visit where Jessi spent two hours helping me to release plugged ducts and barely avert mastitis!), but thanks to Jessi, Kathleen, Susan, and the whole team, I have finally settled into a rhythm of pumping and breastfeeding that is working for us. One key intervention was Kathleens recommendation of a specialist who was able to identify a posterior tongue tie that our pediatrician didnt catch. All in all, this place is a godsend and my whole family says THANK YOU!
I reached out to Metropolitan Breastfeeding as a last ditch effort to breastfeeding my son. He is my last and I really wanted to breastfeed him. I tried breastfeeding with my both of my daughters and my production was pretty much nothing with them no matter what I did. The women at Metropolitan are amazing. They have no idea how much my experience has and will mean to me forever. Thank you for all that you do.
We worked with Metropolitan following the arrival of our third child and the very strong recommendation of a close family friend who had worked with them for both her children, as well as the reference by our hospital and pediatrician. On extremely short notice and urgent outreach from us, we received swift advice and counsel via email, phone, and text from Kathleen and her staff and then also had a same-day in home consultation with Gladys on the weekend, where timely intervention and assistance was critical -- the quick response and action combined with the wisdom, compassion, expertise, and the professional and humane approach was extraordinary, as was the personalized follow up in the days that followed. We are so very grateful for the decades of experience and know how that informed the attentive and personal care we received from Gladys and the entire Metropolitan team and our baby -- and our family -- is thriving as a result! We could not be more grateful and recommend Metropolitan wholeheartedly!
I came to here during my babys first week of life. I was desperate. I wanted to breastfeed but I just couldnt get it right. I found them googling at 2am and sending messages to several places. The owner Ms. Kathy called me the next day and gave me an appointment. My baby is 10 weeks old now and I have been breastfeeding since that first visit. No one volunteered any help or advice. The nurses in the hospital did the bare minimum. No one helped me until I found them. They give tools and advice you wont hear unless you go. Ive seen 3 different lactation consultants there and all of them have been so knowledgeable and helpful. Ms. Kathy is so nice and really funny. My husband and I love her and all the staff there. You can tell they really want to help people. If you need help..... go there!
I highly recommend Metropolitan Breastfeeding for lactation support. As a woman of color, it was important to work with a company that focuses on inclusion and supporting mothers of color. All of my appointments have been with Ms. Gladys. Our first consult was in my home on a Sunday which was amazing. There are few companies that conduct at home visits, and with lactation issues, it is great to be able to work through them in the comfort of your own home!Metropolitan Breastfeeding has everything you need. They have supplies, supplements, knowledge, and more. Because of the support of Metropolitan Breastfeeding, I have been able to successfully breastfeed my child.
What a great experience! They are the best lactation consultants! I came in for help with a pump and left feeling like a million bucks! With Dr. Kathleens expert help I was able to find the correct fitting bra and the correct size breast shields. I was so excited to discover their Little Beam nursing pillow! Not only is it perfect for parallel pumping/nurisng my son but its absolutely perfect for my back when pumping. I havent had back pain since using this pillow its amazing! I left feeling uplifted! I would highly recommend them!
Metropolitan breastfeeding played a huge role in shaping my breastfeeding journey and developing my confidence as a mother. I called them when my baby was 6 days old. He wouldn’t latch properly and was losing weight very quickly. Gladys (our amazing consultant) came out to my home the next day, assessed the situation, and comforted me as I sobbed about feeling like a failure and like I couldn’t feed my child. Gladys showed me that I COULD give my son everything he needs, and that we were strong and resilient. Gladys provided me with the tools I needed to successfully breastfeed and keep up my milk supply. In the 3 weeks we worked together, my son gained 3lbs and we were able to transition from using a nipple shield and triple feeding to exclusively breastfeeding without a shield. My son is now a voracious 2 month old with no latch problems, I am a much more confident mama, and my milk supply is through the roof. I can’t thank Gladys and metropolitan breastfeeding enough for helping us reach our goals.
I cannot speak highly enough about Kathy and Metropolitan Breast-Feeding. As a first time mom and someone who had a breast reduction I was unsure if breast-feeding would even work for us. Kathy and her team we’re willing to meet with us on a holiday weekend(my son was born the day before a holiday weekend) when I was freaking out because he wasn’t eating. Because of the incredible advice, kindness and honestly even supplies the breast-feeding pillow the pumps the supplements… We’re almost at nine months and no longer have to supplement. It was damn hard work but definitely wouldn’t have been possible without Metropolitan Breast-Feeding I am eternally grateful!
I highly recommend this practice. The providers are quite competent and caring. Easy to schedule appointments. Office staff and management are quite responsive. My insurance gave me a hard time with the coverage. The staff and the owner stepped in to advocate for me even though this issue was not originating from them.
There are angels on this earth and they work for this practice!! I honestly would’ve given up breastfeeding a long time ago if it wasn’t for these lovely ladies. I honestly cannot recommend metropolitan breastfeeding enough. I have worked with both Patricia and Kathy, and they have been nothing short of amazing. They are very compassionate about what they do and it shows in the level care I have received from them. I wish I had known Of this practice with my first two children but am glad to have found it now. Thank you for everything that you do.
I have been seeing Kathy for about 1 year after delivering my baby and am so grateful to have found such a great person to help with all of my lactation needs. Kathy has taught me so much about working with a newborn. Her services are invaluable and is a great investment for any new mother who needs advice on any topic. I look forward to my weekly visits and following Kathys advice has made my life so much easier with my baby. I highly recommend this practice and her staff is very professional and responsive.
I cannot recommend Metropolitan Breastfeeding enough. My baby was born with a tongue tie (corrected in the hospital), so latching and weight gain were tough in the beginning. Baby always seemed to want to feed, and fell asleep on me. I made an appointment at the Columbia, MD location, and was so thankful I did. It was worth every second, and incredibly helpful. The lactation specialist I saw is also a postpartum Doula, and when I mentioned tongue tie, she knew about some of the issues my little one and I were having before I even told her. She weighed baby before and after feeding, offered hands on advice to address the aforementioned issues, and answered all of my questions. While I was there for about 2 hours, the last several weeks have been amazing. At babys last check up, our pediatrician asked how it was going - I told her about our positive experience, and recommended them for any other moms who are searching for some help and answers in this crazy and uncertain world of breastfeeding.
Knowledgeable, Professional,Friendly, Caring, Thoughtful,Above and beyond,All the words above fit Kathleen (FNP-BC) perfectly!I was breastfeeding my 14-month-old, and I noticed a lump in my breast so I went to see one GYN doctor and one surgeon before I visited Kathleen.I went to Kathleen for third opinion and it turned out an amazingly wonderful experience.Kathleen carefully listened to all my questions and answered with lots of details very patiently the whole time.In addition to the examination of the lump, Kathleen also paid attentions to and asked more information about the other GYN’s names and diagnosis. To my surprise, she is so knowledgeable that she knows about the reputation of the GYN and the medicine I was taking. She could see that I was nervous so she ensured me that I am being taken care very well in a very gentle and loving tone like a close friend or even like a family!I feel blessed and happy to be seen by her.Extremely highly recommend!
Bad experience with their billing department. In 2019 instead of billing our insurance company, they charged our credit card for the rental of a breast pump for about 10 months. The insurance company is involved now for at least 6 months and to date Metropolitan Breastfeeding has not reimbursed us our money because insurance should have covered all costs. Bad practices and bad follow up!
They are the best lactation consultants! I went from half and half, but now I’m 100% breastfeeding. I also have my BM stock in the freezer. All recommendations are very useful, and it’s work.
Kathy is absolutely amazing. I trust her implicitly and have brought both of my babies to her for her help with feeding and sleep issues. She is caring, highly responsive, and thorough and thoughtful in her approach. I recommend Kathy to everyone I know with a newborn, whether they are struggling or not with any issues.
Ania was a wonderful lactation consultant! She was calm and provided real advice (and was a morale booster!) during the a tough transition into breastfeeding. Highly recommend!
Manu helped me with techniques to help my son nurse better and to prevent gas etc. She was warm, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. She made sure I understood her, was very patient with my questions, and made me feel so comfortable. I cant recommend Metropolitan Breastfeeding enough!
I have been using Metropolitan Breastfeeding services since 2016 and cannot say enough positive things. Ive been squeezed in numerous times and met after hours to accommodate my schedule. I am always treated as if my situation is of utmost importance and am always treated with great care. I feel very lucky to have found this team. They are AMAZING!!
Great experience getting care and breastfeeding support here. Easy to schedule an appointment, the intake information was all digital and easy to fill out. Then when I got there, my provider already knew my concerns and history and it made it very easy to get started. She was knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. I got the help I needed and a digital care plan emailed to me so I didnt have to remember every detail in my new mommy mind. I was able to even purchase some products that I needed right in the office. Later in the week when I had a hard day, I emailed and got a very prompt email back from support with some things to try. Its great to find such a service to support breastfeeding and I will definitely recommended this provider!
I used this company as recommended by my pediatrician. They were able to get me an appointment with a consultant coming to my house within a couple hours of calling them. Lisa was incredible as I was devastated that my baby had lost a lot of weight. We tried a lot of different techniques and Lisa was very encouraging. She provided me an entire care plan and recommendations for brands of what I needed to purchase to make everything easier. She followed up via text for several days after and is always available if I have questions. I rented a great pump from them as well. I would highly recommend this group and Lisa specifically.
I have met three times with Mary Bailey throughout our breastfeeding cycle-- including later issues such as transitioning back to work and weaning. She has always had an excellent grasp of the physical and emotional challenges we faced, and had incredibly useful, practical guidance to offer. She has set up personalized action plans with me each time, taking into account the particularities of our situation. I cannot recommend her guidance highly enough!
Hiring Manu from Metropolitan Breastfeeding as a lactation consultant is the best decision weve made as new parents! 100% worth it to have her come to our house, too. No stress about getting somewhere for an appointment, traipsing through a hospital, etc. And at home we were able to show her all the things we have and get her advice about what to use, get her help adjusting positioning and latch using the chairs and pillows I use at home. During the first visit, she immediately fixed the problems with our latch that were causing my nipple pain - it went away instantaneously. And she got us on a plan to help our baby get back to birth weight. Every minute we spend with her we gain new wisdom and solutions to our breastfeeding & weight gain woes! If you have any inkling that something is wrong with breastfeeding, call Metropolitan Breastfeeding asap!
Kathy McCue is the unsung hero of my births. After all the excitement settles from the delivery, the real work begins - keeping this baby healthy and well fed! Kathy has helped me achieve my breastfeeding goals with all three of my children and never backs down from a challenge. She answers e-mails and phone calls at all hours of the day and night, giving almost immediate support and relief. It’s not to say it’s without a lot of work, but she’s always there to help us through every step of the way.The first time we worked together (I was very stressed out, my baby hadn’t gained weight for 10 days) she said something I’ll never forget, she said “Send me the information I need and let me do the worrying. You take care of your baby and don’t worry unless I tell you there’s a reason to worry.” As a 10-day-old mom at the time, I’m not sure if she realized how much relief that gave me. She has continued that level of support for the last 4.5 years. Thank you for always taking my worry away from me and solving any concern I bring to you. You are truly incredible at what you do.
I am a first-time mom who visualized I would have enough milk to freeze. I was blessed the Universe delivered my milk as I’d hoped...and yet it has not come without its fair share of challenges. My baby cries when I offer my breast. He chokes. He has a lot of gas...he cluster feeds often. His poop is green and thus gets more fore milk than hind milk.Further, I had a lot of anxiety returning to work and baby to daycare not knowing how breastmilk would go between bottle and breast.I needed a lactation consultant to help. I asked for Stephanie because she had the pump I needed to rent prior to having the baby. I loved her vibe: kind, genuine, experienced (& has kids!), and knowledgeable. She came over for a house visit and I couldn’t have asked for more! She was patient with all my questions, explained everything in detail, weighed my baby, smiled often and talked to my little one, and even wrote and sent to me her notes within 12 hours of her visit!I am taking her very wise advice and my mind is much more at ease as I make my transition back to work. I recommend her without reservation.
As a new mom with little to no sleep metropolitan breastfeeding made it easy for me to rent the hospital grade breast pump. After a few days I decided that the pump didnt fit my needs due to lack of milk production and a tongue tied baby. They made the return process even easier which was a huge help. Thank you for the 5 star customer service that you give to all moms out there! Even though it didnt work out for me, I will be recommending to alllllllll moms that need their services.
A wonderful and caring place for you and your baby! Staff are knowledgeable and kind. Highly recommend their services!
I saw Kathy at 10 days of life for my son and it was the best educational hour I spent during my entire pregnancy. She helped with my latch, treated pain, rented me a pump and had supplies at her office to sell me for pumping and lactation herbs. I kept in touch via email and rented another pump for my office. Cannot recommend enough!
I highly recommend Metropolitan Breastfeeding to any soon-to-be or new mom who is wanting to breastfeed. Through their guidance and support with providing me with the tools I needed, breastfeeding is now something I enjoy and look forward too.
Ive made multiple purchases from Metropolitan Breastfeeding for my newborn son. They are knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. My wife has had personal consults with one of their consultants, and we were both pleased with the results.
To say that Kathy and her team at Metropolitan Breastfeeding saved my post-partum sanity is an understatement. Kathy made herself available at all hours to help me through breastfeeding my son. He was struggling gaining his birth weight back and I was having supply issues - Kathy helped me through both and we have been breastfeeding since. Kathy has also made herself available the last 9 months any time I have follow up questions.I have referred many people to her and to read her breastfeeding book - she was a true lifesaver!
They are incredibly responsive. They sent a lactation consultant to my home within 12 hours of my panicked call. Kathy Lee was phenomenal and to the point with positioning for breastfeeding, pumping guidance (that has helped tremendously with my output) and in confirming my suspicion of a tongue tie. She referred me to an ENT and followed up afterwards. Highly recommend this store (bought a pumping/nursing bra after fitting) and specifically Kathy Lee as a consultant.
Dr. McCue and the LC’s at Metropolitan Breastfeeding are top-notch. Look no further for knowledgeable, friendly, and professional breastfeeding help.
As the owner of Birth You Desire and a professional birth worker I know I can always rely on Metropolitan Breastfeeding to support my clients and all their needs.
This is by far one of the greatest experiences I’ve had In the breastfeeding journey. I’ve met with a couple of Lactation consultants in the early weeks at the hospital and doctor offices but had a lot of challenges with pumping, clogged ducts, feeding, etc as the weeks went on. I was close to throwing in the towel after 4+ months of really hard work but on a whim googled consultants and found this one that not only works after regular business hours but responds to text messages 24/7 (mine happened to be at 3 am!) I got a response within a couple of minutes, a call at 8 am to schedule a visit and an actual consultant that paid a house visit 3 hours later.. and on a Sunday! The consultation was professional and took all the time necessary to answer all my questions, did a weighted feeding, offered guidance on feedig positioning and pumping sizes, rented me a pump, and came up with a care plan that addressed my needs. I’m so happy I found this service and can’t say enough good things. Prompt response is key in this journey and they have helped tremendously!! I would recommend to anyone having issues at any point in their journey!!
Staff are always encouraging, patient, and dedicated to helping clients be successful.
This company’s accounting system is highly inadequate. I recently received another invoice for my visits despite the account being paid in full, which was confirmed by an employee several weeks ago. Despite this, they just charged my credit card on file without my knowledge, which is the second time that has occurred. Apparently, I signed a consent form that included a clause stating that they are authorized to charge my card on file for fees $30 and under. With this being said, my account was paid in full so no charges should have been made. I would have hesitated signing this form if I had known what I was permitting them to do. I will not do business with this company again.
I was about to give up on breastfeeding before the lactation consultant from here helped me out. The hospital lactation consultants were no help at all, but a couple short visits from here made all the difference.
Very knowledge and helpful
We could not survive breastfeeding with them!
I came to Metropolitan Breastfeeding after discharge from the hospital because my baby wouldn’t latch. The first visit they recommended renting a hospital grade pump to help build my supply, pumping often, and not worrying about trying to nurse until my supply was up. We had been formula feeding until then. I came back a week later with better supply (though not enough to exclusively breastfeed). They recommended pumping one side while nursing the other. But we still hadn’t resolved the latch issues. They said there was no tie or other physical reason she couldn’t latch. I tried for a couple weeks to nurse & pump without success, then tried to just pump, and finally at 6 weeks just switched to formula feeding.Maybe MB is good for resolving isolated breastfeeding issues (like, if you’re already nursing and just need some tips) and they do have good pump rentals, but they didn’t help me to get my baby nursing at all.
