Coffee is always good here. I also enjoyed a morning bun.
Very cool local coffee spot. I love the cheerful staff, snacks, & cold brew.
Delicious coffee and the guy that helped us out was warm hearted and friendly
This is a great local coffee place that is a convenient and much quieter alternative to the big chain coffee spots at the nearby 4th Street mall. If you feel a bit hesitant to walk under the University Ave overpass, just go through the turnabout by the train station, theres often a bus parked there or passengers coming and going. Then walk just one more block to Catahoula and compensate for the extra calories burned with a sweet treat and a beverage. The coffee is excellent, they have beans for purchase as well and plenty of interesting beverages to try. The hot food selection is limited but there is usually a small breakfast burrito or something similar available. Friendly service, and plenty of outdoor space, if the picnic tables are full, there are lots of quiet benches nearby, or you can easily walk over to Aquatic Park. Prices are pretty much comparable to other nearby spots.
The cubana latte was delicious!! Great prices as well. I will definitely be visiting regularly on my way to work!
This is our neighborhood spot. Andy is super personable. They have great Covid19 protocols and the coffee is almost as tasty as Dunkin’ Donuts;). Patronize them they are awesome.
Always super quality with top-notch service
A cute little cafe along Fourth St. I stopped in before a meeting and enjoyed a cup of tea at a big wooden dining table where I could open my laptop and do some work. They also have a few tables outside in a small front patio. Big clean bathroom too.
Drinks are decent and they have a great selection of vegan and Paleo pastries, as well as tasty English muffins. They also have premade breakfast burritos but I havent tried those. Inside is cozy and clean even though its small, outside patio is also pleasant especially on sunny days. The bathroom is normally clean but it doesnt have a changing table unfortunately. Service however, is a hit or miss. Some staff is nice but others not so much...
Yummy
Great selection of teas and good heat-and-eat breakfast sandwiches. A friendly atmosphere and my fav drop-in spot when my train is delayed.
Sometimes I hate letting people know about great little places like Catahoula. But they are super nice, good coffee and great location so....here you go!The food is also really good! Fresh every day and a nice selection. Try it out!
Have latte and croissant here. Excellent coffee and fresh&tasty bakery! They sell their own roasted coffee beans, too. A modern coffee shop with casual and friendly atmosphere :)
Hip little coffee shop. Not Peets, not Starbucks. Local vibe. Prepare to roll up your sleeves and rub elbows with interesting folks at the large dining room table. Few power options available for charging your electronics, so scope out a strategic spot to post up.
I stop by here whenever i have an appointment at west berkeley, people are lovely they always great you with a smile, the coffee is good. I always have the almond croissant with a coffee or laté
Friendly staff. Good food. My wife loves the coffee.
Ordered chai tea. It was ok. Klutzy me knocked my table and spilled it all over. Another customer helped clean it up!!!!! Can you believe it? The staff person immediately came and did the same. I was speechless. Id already left a good tip but I added more to the jar before I left. Where else can you go where both customer and staff are so super nice?
I love that there is plenty of seating & the drinks are tasty
Rather than my typical Starbucks for my cafe americano, decided to try this place as we were passing through. Service was great but my americano was a bit disappointing. I expected it to taste better than Starbucks since most coffee shops I tried in SF usually are. Nevertheless, 4 stars since I prefer small coffee shops.
I just recently realized that brewed coffee as a beverage can be really tasty and bring pleasure and not just energy only when friend of mine, who was investigating market of the local roasters in San Francisco East Bay made me sip from his coffee cup - that was Lola one of the unforgettable and addictive blend roasted by Richmonds Catahoula Coffee Company. Their first cafe located right at the roastery on San Pablo Ave in East Richmond. Second spot, Catahoula Kaffeegarten, is on 4th Street in West Berkeleys Design District that I regularly visit. Cozy cafe isruled by really friendly and professional Staff that brew amazing Stuff!;))I would like to make particular mention of their assortment of vegan pastries and meals.A lot of words in a review from me means that I got true dopamine here;))
Best latte Ive had in a long time. The pastries are almost all homemade locally, and delicious. Thanks for making my day a little better today, Katahoula. 😊
Little coffee shop with nice music and comfortable atmosphere
Im not much of a coffee person but i went here because me and my friend werw looking for a quite place to chat. The coffee here is amazing!! And the mochi muffins they bake here were a perfect treat with the coffee. Thank you.
My go-to coffee place in Berkeley! The staff there is very nice and welcoming. Plus, the coffee and the pastries are great!
Cute and cozy little coffee shop with very good coffee. The staff is always friendly, and the espresso is consistently good. By far my favorite place for coffee around.
I go here in the mornings all the time. Great coffee, great music and great staff!
Great coffee and pastries! The churro custard cakes are especially delicious
High quality coffee, friendly folks, great place to grab a coffee before jumping on the train. the hand pies are delish, although be warned that they are also total butter bombs. (hmm, I *wonder* if theres maybe just maybe a correlation there?) anyway, good dependable not-as-dark-roasted-as-peets coffee is the bottom line.
Came for the Nico pizza pop-up and got the last two slices. Thick and large, with lots of vegetables and pepperoni, respectively. Restaurant should open this summer probably, by the Catahoula in Richmond on San Pablo Ave.
Love their homemade almond milk.
Love this place. My friend and I come here a couple times a month just to have a great cup of coffee in real cups. Staff is super friendly. We also love Sammis awesome muffins and scones. Best coffee and best muffins in the East Bay. We go to the 4th Street location because they always have Sammis goodies. Parking is not always easy but whats walking a block or two for a great place.
Friendly staff, fast serving and delicious cappuccino. I love this place
Good for something different. Super chill. Like the seating.
Excellent coffee (try a macchiato, you taste the difference) and indeed friendly staff. And do not miss Sams mochi muffins. I normally dislike muffins, these are gourmet ones, trust me!
One of the best cappuccino Ive had....really great roasting. Wish you had a branch in S Cal!
Wow, awesome pastries!! Super well made!! Drip coffee great too!
Highly recommend the Cuban coffee
Friendly folks and medium roasts. Dog-friendly, a plus!
Stopped by for a soy cappucino on a Saturday and it was barely better than starbucks. Maybe there was a trainee barista that day. But given the number of great cafes these days, I am not going back.
Great coffee and dog biscuits. Sadie and I love the outdoor benches and the baristas.
Great coffee tea and quick bites!
They put love in their drinks. Top notch!
Latte perfection! Happy Monday!
Great coffee. Never to packed to get your cup and go
Flavorful coffee and nice ambiance. Baked goods are gourmet, and thus, a bit pricey.
Coffee nice hotThe Taste is so smooth
Me: By the way...why do you call the crack muffin a crack muffin?Cashier: Oh...because our boss is insensitive and uses bad words. Its a police joke, because we have a cafe in Richmond, too and a lot of police come in and its funny to see police come in and order crack muffins.Me: Yeah I dont think thats funny at all.Basically, so its okay to make a joke out of a substance that was flooded into the black community and used as an excuse to criminalize poverty? And its okay for it to be a police joke because cops dont use excessive force and violence against the communities most affected by the crack epidemic..?Coffee was mediocre too
Good coffee, friendly staff, whats not to like?
Tasty mochi muffins and friendly, professional service!
The staff and vibe at Catahoula are very welcoming. There’s free WiFi, sufficient electrical outlets, mellow music, a big communal table and two smaller tables indoors and a large picnic table outside for getting some rays. They have an assortment of food options (from baked goods to burritos) from local places – some are vegan, some gluten-free.I had a Mexican mocha ($4) which was nicely presented, not too sweet, and had a good cinnamon flavor without being overwhelmed by spice. I’ve also been to Catahoula’s store in Richmond and bought a bag of Lola’s blend – it’s good coffee. I also had a corn-basil-manchego cheese scone from Sam’s Patisserie ($3.50), which was really very delicious – slightly spicy, nicely seasoned and perfectly baked – I’d come back for this alone. Sam’s Patisserie doesn’t really have a storefront – it’s located in the kitchen inside Catahoula. Sam said that he experiments with the scones, so expect many different varieties. They also stock Sam’s famous Hawaiian mochis ($4) which are another good reason for visiting.Catahoula deserves 5/5 “green stars” for social and environmental responsibility. They use Clover organic milk for all their drinks and compostable bags for their coffee. On their blog they say that they pay $1.75 to $2 above the commodity price for beans (around $2.50 per lb) and they have some coffees (like Peru) that are specifically labeled as Direct Trade, Organic and Shade Grown. They purchase renewable energy from Deep Green (who plans to build the Bay Area’s largest publicly-owned solar project in Richmond next year). They also tend to stock food from local responsible businesses. Sam’s Patisserie in particular use organic (and pasture raised) dairy, eggs, flour, and fruits whenever possible. So, it’s a good place to go if you want good coffee drinks and pastries that are made with organic ingredients.
Great latte. Good vibes.
Love this spot!
Best coffee and Lattes!
Coffee is high quality but pastries have really gone downhill since Third Culture Bakery moved out
Warm and friendly staff, delicious coffee, fast Wi-Fi, tasty treats. What more can you ask for?

Nice relaxed atmosphere.
Cute location, good coffee
A fan of their breakfast burrito 🌯 and drip coffee pairing 😬
Hate paying 6 bucks for cold pressed ? buy a house coffee and ask for a cup of ice. [....]voila! or boom! 2 cups of coffee
The lattes are delicious

Boilerplate coffee and food, very limited seating noisy street, overall not chill.
