I had a recent excellent experience at Berkeley Minicar. Not only was I able to get my car seen the day after I called, I found Jim and the team thorough and professional:- They listened to the description of noises and issues my car had developed, they explained what they thought might be happening as well as discussed the plan up front.- I needed to leave my car overnight, and felt safe doing so.- They were quick with the workup and called promptly when they identified the issue and had options to discuss.- They also found a significant safety issue — not like just seeing what costs they could tack on, but a legitimate issue I mentioned as an afterthought as I thought it was trivial: turns out my emergency brake was completely non-functioning.- Their recommendations and time frames for all the maint & repairs were clear and reasonable. After performing the agreed-upon items, they called back to review what did and why.- On top of that, despite the efficiency, they were unfailingly pleasant and charged a lot less than I have seen anywhere else; particularly for the problems they fixed. They even took time to explain some features of my car that would improve its longevity and cut down on excessive maintenance.- The front desk staff was helpful and courteous.- Appropriate covid precautions were in place.- The garage, which was humming with activity, was clean and well-organized.In all, a great shop. I’ll be bringing my car to them for all future needs.

This garage was recommended to me by my car’s previous owner, and I can see why!! I just brought my Honda Fit in to Berkeley Minicar to get the brakes inspected after having some issues. It was a positive experience all around. It was easy to schedule to bring my car in. They inspected my brakes, diagnosed the problem, and were straightforward about pricing to resolve the issue. Also, everyone I dealt with throughout the process could not have been nicer.

Berkeley Minicar is the best. I definitely did not have a 5 Star experience here. I brought my truck, which I just bought, here for a full inspection and to have some suspension components looked at and replaced.The pros:-They worked fast and took my truck to go have an alignment, super nice of them.-They were responsive and answered all my questions about the vehicle.Cons:-They forgot to replace a bushing on one of my shocks when they performed suspension work. This resulted in a super super loud, almost constant noise from the suspension. I only drove the truck a couple blocks after picking it up, and knew something was wrong. The issue here is that they DID NOT TEST DRIVE MY CAR AFTER PERFORMING WORK ON IT. That’s totally unprofessional and unacceptable. They did get the car back in quickly and fix the issue, but they should have definitely driven it and fixed it before i picked it up.-They bled my brake lines, resulting in a totally different feel for the brakes. I asked them immediately about this, and the manager responded that they did not touch the brakes. when i brought the truck back in for the suspension noise, the mechanic explained that they had, in fact, bled the brake line. I expect all work and maintenance done on my car to be documented and explained. I don’t like surprises when it comes to my vehicle.-My coolant reservoir was overfilled by the previous owner, and despite claiming to check all fluid levels, they didn’t notice this. When i drove it on the highway and the engine heated up, the coolant overflowed. not a huge deal, but they could have noticed the coolant being too full and taken some out.-They claimed to have lubed all my doors and windows during the maintenance, but one of my windows is squealing when i roll it up 2 days after leaving their shop. Yes, it’s an older car, but when i applied some WD40 to the window seal, it immediately stopped making noise....did they actually do the work the said they did?Overall, these guys are responsive and generally an OK shop, but they certainly didn’t give me a 5-star experience.

Great experience with Berkeley Minicar - I took my car in because of an oil leak. I got a call shortly after from Berkeley Minicar telling me that the place my oil had been changed before didn’t tighten up the caps and my oil could have run dry. 🤦‍♀️ Stupid mistake on the part of the oil changers, but easy fix. Berkeley Minicar didn’t BS me into buying anything unnecessary and charged me $70 for the diagnosis. Totally reasonable for wasting their time with such a silly problem.

When my CR-Vs clutch blew up in the mountains, Berkley Minicar was extremely flexible receiving the vehicle from an emergency tow truck with no appointment, worked fast to get the clutch replaced, gave me an accurate estimate at intake time, and even emailed me a photo of the damage to the old clutch once it was removed. Solid service. No complaints.

Called for a quote for what may have been a manufacture defect in my car. They gave me an honest response to have it checked under warranty at a dealership instead of preying on me. Very knowledgable and honest. Will come here for future repairs (for out of warranty issues)

I have brought my Honda Elements here for years. (And recommended this location to anyone else seeking Honda service.) Very upfront and honest as to what they feel needs (and doesnt need) to be done. In fact, they are several times just a phone call or email away. I cannot say enough about them. And their prices are extremely fair. In my mind, once you have found a good mechanic that you trust, why would I go anywhere else?

Ive been going to Berkeley Minicar for over 25 years. My rule, never buy a car that Berkeley Minicar doesnt work on. A second rule is, sell a car through Berkeley Minicar. They dont buy and sell cars, to be sure, but when I was looking for a buyer of my last Honda, they had a customer looking for just my car. A match made in heaven. Berkeley Minicar had the complete medical history of my vehicle. That gave confidence to the buyer. It goes without saying -- though the purpose of this review is to say it -- their service is superb. August 2020 addendum: I would repeat the above praise. My current Honda is five years old and runs like a top, thanks to Berkeley Minicar (and Honda, of course).

No actual work, except determining that dealer proposed work for >$1000 was unnecessary!I appreciate the savings and will come back when service is needed. Wonder why I went to the dealership for so many years ...Update: Ive used Minicar now for a few years, also for a second car (Toyota Sienna). Service is top notch, and Im never pressed to have work done that may not be needed - to the contrary, when asking about possible issues I often receive a good explanation why work (e.g. on suspension) is not needed at this time.

Ive been a customer since 1979! Mark was my savior and saved me from a $300 brake job (a lot of money for someone working a clerical job in those days) that a dealership was pressuring me to have before my road trip to LA. Needless to say, Mark had me come in. We went for a short drive and his final diagnosis was that I had some pebbles caught in between my brakes. The remedy: a fast drive down a straight, empty street, hit the brakes hard to dislodge them, ... and it worked! Ive been a fan of theirs ever since! I say theirs because I think each of the guys whove worked on my two cars are just as honest and honorable as their boss!

The staff is friendly, their work is impeccable, and they dont push you to do things your doesnt need, but they keep up on those things that are nice to get done.

I was passing through town and needed an oil change. My car had also recently overheated going over a big mountain pass. They got me in the day I called, advised me on what to do if it overheats again, and provided superb customer service. I don’t live in the area but would absolutely take my car here again if I lived here.

After researching many local shops that specialize in Hondas, I was happy with the quoted prices and the time taken to explain everything to me. However, the viscosity of oil used was not the kind recommended by the manufacturer, and I was not notified about this until after the fact. THAT is a big problem. EVERYTHING must be up front. Period.Also, I asked for my doors to be lubricated, as they have started making squeaking sounds. The paperwork stated that they would/did. Doors are still squeaking, which leads me to believe that someone overlooked a direct customer request.Without 2 strikes against them, I may have given a 4 star rating. Perhaps 3 is too generous. I may not be back.

I have been going to Berkeley Minicar for years, My last Honda lasted over 165k miles and was still fine when I traded it in for my Hybrid. Berkeley Minicar is the place to go for expert Honda maintenance.

Everyone at Minicar (even desk staff) has a ridiculously large body of knowledge regarding Hondas, its honestly a little scary. They are also willing to help strategize spreading out costly repairs to minimize hits to the checkbook. They are not out to charge for every possible repair.

At Berkeley Minicar, youll receive excellent service and not sold something you dont need. They are honest and reliable.

Used Berkeley Minicar for years! Love them--they are very professional and as a woman Ive always appreciated the way they are very approachable, honest and take the time to explain in detail what is going on with the car. They also give me prioritized repairs, in the case that I need to wait to do some of the more expensive repairs on my older honda. Ive had a few different hondas over the years, and they have helped keep them running until the end! Now I have Toyotas and Im SO happy I can keep going there.

I took my car here to get a major tune-up service. They cost just as much as the Honda dealership, > $500. I chose them because of the good reviews, but their service was definitely subpar. The tune-up seemed fine, but when I picked up the car, my tire was flat. I pointed the problem to the front desk staff, and they said that I must have driven over a nail. OMG, Really?! If I did that, shouldnt they have noticed and called me when they repaired it? There was no call or even mention of it when I picked it up. Instead of patching the tire, which takes only 15 mins or less, they only refilled my tire enough so I can drive to an tire shop to get it repaired. They will try to sound like they did a lot of things by listing things that each took 1 minute (ie: top off fluids, check brake lights, etc). What horrible service - they caused more problems than before I took it in.

They provided an air conditioning solution that really worked for me. Jim said that they are adding a fluorescent color to detect leaks. It is not getting as cold as couple of weeks ago. I will bring in the car to see if there is a leak you can detect Thanks for excellent work.Two weeks later: I took the car back and asked to check for A/C leaks and they found none. I asked them to check for hydraulic fluid leaking and Jim said it will cost $1600 to fix. Just get a new car. I took the car to SoCal for repairs and got it done for $600. Plus $100 for gas!

Moved out to Pleasanton and still drive all the way to Berkely to take my car to Berkeley Minicar . Cant say enough good about them. They are completely honest and the prices are resonable. And they explain everything in a very clear and understanble way.One time when I had a car problem which made it not possible to drive to Berkeley I called them and they recommended a place in my town and someone that they knew from experience and they were spot on. I will still go to Berkeley however- loyal customer ---but use the local place only if necessary. And spend time with Berkeley friends while waiting on my car.
