We had an appointment with Kara last week to get my 10 week old checked for ties and to ask some breastfeeding questions (because while mom groups are supportive, sometimes the advice given is what worked for the person giving it but not necessarily for me so we wanted to get the experts opinion). This is baby #4 and Im so glad Kara is available for appointments for us to check in and troubleshoot as needed! I wish I wouldve had her when I was breastfeeding with my first kid! Kara is extraordinary. I had my son at 29 weeks premature. Kara worked closely with our Baptist NICU team both with lactation consultations and Occupational Therapy. I reached out to Kara during my pregnancy because I wanted to set myself up for success with breastfeeding. Boy am I glad I did! When my birth plan went all crazy (and I ended up with the total opposite of the birth experience I had hoped for), the breastfeeding basics Kara went over with me in my prenatal visit were more helpful than I ever could have imagined. She went out of her way to make sure I had the support I needed during those first few, groggy hours of trying to feed my baby while also recovering from an emergency c-section. Kara answered all my worried-new-mom questions with care and kindness and fit us in on short notice when I was SO sure that my baby was starving (news flash: she wasn’t). Her passion for her job is obvious by the attention she gives to her clients and her dedication to bringing new resources to the community. Being a new mom can be overwhelming (and lonely and just plain hard) and Kara is truly a bright shining star in a place that can otherwise feel so dark.
