We are a family that owns a small business and we enjoy supporting local businesses and this is one of our main reasons we started coming to Hollis Brothers. However, we also do not like to be taken advantage of and I am not sure if Dave Hollis has convinced me enough to come back to his shop. The reason for this comment is that his prices are actually higher than Motorwerks of Barrington. I just performed an oil change service on my BMW X5 and the invoice was $20 higher than a service performed at BMW Motorwerks on January 28, 2020. When I brought him a copy of the invoice, he had indicated that this was over a year ago and that prices do increase. He did knock off $10 but the reason we use an independent shop is to get away from dealership price gouging. However, this is not the only service that was quoted to be higher or equal. My rear brake service was equal to BMW Motorwerks pricing. In addition, wiper blades replacement was quoted at $80! This is on par with other google reviews regarding the higher than average prices on their service. Other google reviews are quick to give this business one star, but I will stay neutral with 3 stars due to the fact that the technicians do perform good service. For anyone looking for a local shop, you will clearly get good service but one has to ask themselves whether they are comfortable in paying the same or higher amount as the dealer.
They checked & filed my low passenger tire & checked the others too. I asked what I owed them & they said there was no charge. Unexpected. Very nice men.
Great technicians. They always find the problem, repair it and return my car quickly. Fair prices and correct repair recommendations!
This shop is excellent!!!It is filled with awesome mechanics who are passionate about what they do!They care about helping people, instead of most shops that see people as money.I cant recommend them enough!
Treats you like family. Does what is needed and advises you on what can wait and what cant. Fair and honest pricing. A place you can trust...I do!!
I will attest to 20 years of service: The Hollis brothers are most honest and reliable mechanics in town. Im so grateful they are in downtown Barrington and always with a lending hand. Dave has rescued me many times —from the side of the road, dropping me off at work, or talking me through an issue on the phone. Thanks, guys!
Ok, so I tried out Hollis brothers for the first time. We live in Kildeer and I like to support local businesses. These brothers have been in business since the 70’s and service BMW, Mercedes, Mini etc. We own BMW and Mini. I was excited about finding a “local” shop. I was asked to drop off my car Friday afternoon for a Saturday morning replacement of my front brakes. When I arrived Friday afternoon there was no one in the front office-I had to walk out on the service floor to find help-I was told the service desk person left early.I was called early on Saturday to confirm my car would be done around 10:00 am. They also outlined the price, which was over $900 for the repair. To be FAIR, they indicated that they were using OEM parts. I had recently had my back brakes replaced by Midas for $545. The gentleman told me they close at 11:30 am, so I should arrive before then to pick up my vehicle. No problem. I received a text at 9:48 am that my car was ready. When I arrived at the shop the office was empty-AGAIN. Once more I walked out to the service floor and asked for service. I was told that the individual that handles bills etc. had “run to the bank”. I waited over 15 minutes for service, when he finally returned. Heaven forbid that the desk manager wait until 11:30 to go to the bank-they knew I was coming to pick up my car.Bottom line-I wanted to support a local business. The service was poor and they were twice the price. NEVER again.
Very prompt and professional service. These guys are awesome. e had my car serviced for the first time. I highly recommend them.
We have taken our cars to Dave and Steves shop for almost 30 years. Excellent service at fair prices. Particularly convenient if you commute by Metra into the city.
Overpriced - deceptive - stay away! $300+ worth of “diagnostic” work - consisting of cleaning off a filter to check for an oil leak!?!? That I NEVER AUTHORIZED! Then another $200 for an oil change!?!? Charges more than the dealer!! Shady.. never going back, they should not be in business! How can any work be done on a car without any kind of notice or authorization? Pieces of my car fell off the next day as well! I called the dealer and they had no idea what this repair shop was even talking about! Yea - they know more than the 2 dealers I called and charged me 300% more for the privilege! Scam!
Steer clear. Their prices are DOUBLE those of other reputable shops. Paid $240 for a simple car battery. Other quoted parts plus labor were equally exorbitant. I LEARNED MY LESSON.
Tom was awesome! Super friendly and very passionate about his work. Gave me a great deal on my brakes and set me out on my business in no time
The people working in this pace have vast skills in mechanical work and understand their cars very well.
My son brought my car here for tire replacement and this guys did a very fantastic job.
Great service. Try reasonably priced.
Bunch of scammers, ridiculous price just for diagnostics, plus they had an attitude on the phone. Avoid this place at any cost!
