The Cafe was so hot sweat beads were on faces and the staff was complaining of how hot it was. When the food was ready we opted to take it outside, even though it was in the 90s! Burger was oily all over the bun and the homemade veggie burger patty was like eating mash potatoes on a bun( soggy sticking to the top of the bun so gross not edible) w 3 slivers of soggy lettuce with the texture of cooked spinach on the bottom. as you can see in photos. Brought to attention of the 3 girls at counter and was told thats the way we make it .we are not responsible if you dont like it...So it went straight to the trash can.( after photos)..I believe the patty was under cooked and they should have offered to remake or replaced with something edible..Bonus f u was ...When ordering I asked for lettuce and pickles only on my burger and when taking the image for this review I noticed they charged me $2 extra for that, and labeled it as a side salad...I wasnt interested in giving this company another dime by ordering another entree from them after they were not interested in making the first encounter right! Luckily the prepackaged chips and lemonade where excellent and much needed until I could get to another place to get food! I will skip this cafe in the future.
A great spot for breakfast with excellent coffee (ask your barista for their special concoctions!), fantastic sandwiches for lunch, and the secret not-so-busy spot for dinner. They have a beer/wine too! The courtyard seats are a nice respite from the busy downtown, and the indoor seating with an amazing book collection for purchase is cozy and comfortable. Great for a small crowd or solo dining/hanging out.
Heard from locals it was a great joint to check out. I was still unprepared for how good their breakfast sandwiches were. They were fresh, warmed, cooked perfectly, and had great flavor. They also have a beautiful, quaint outdoor area for reading.Check hours ahead if you travel, and definitely check the place out!
Just what we were looking for lunch in Bar Harbor: casual, laidback atmosphere with delicious food. Nice change of pace from the waiting list process of other Bar Harbor restaurants. Great vegan and vegetarian options. I had the vegan peanut sauce wrap which was delicious. My daughter had the Communist Manifesto which she said was the best veggie burger she’s had in a while. My wife had the Bahn Mi (non vegan) and she said it was delicious.
Nice hidden and more locals coffee/cafe. Fresh foods and homemade style. Book shop seemed more like a me a side thought. Nice outdoor patio area.
OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE! Adorable, tucked away, tree covered outdoor area for coffee and food, that you could spend the day at reading, working, or socializing at.I came here in desperate search to WiFi and an outdoor place to situate myself and work for the day. This was better than anything I could have imagined. Ordered a cold brew to power me through and was able to charge my laptop and phone for a productive day spent in a beautiful, friendly setting.
Love this place. Great food, chill vibes, clean, great collection of literature, their breakfast bagels are to die for, and everyone who works here is way kinder than they need to be. Happy to see the owl sporting its gorgeous flag, and thrilled that a longtime beloved Bar Harbor establishment has successfully transitioned into its newest incarnation. Amazing work, James & crew!
We had the Communist Manifesto and Bang Bang sandwiches. We were impressed by the sandwiches. Next time, we will get one Sandwich and share. A nice relaxed place. A place to meet friends.
Had a great vibe. The Bahn Mi made me believe in god for roughly 7 minutes. The iced mocha was also pretty tasty.
Fantastic ambience, excellent food and music. You cannot ask for anything more. Coming again later tonight 😂
Nice whole in the wall palce with amazing calm ambience Vegan food is tasty and pretty nutritious
Great service and food! Cappuccino and fries are very good. Fun place with a great, positive vibe to grab lunch, do work.
The drinks and food are both amazing, and the outdoor seating is perfect on any day, as the trees provide ample cover from the sun. The proximity to the parking lot is nice so you can just keep an eye out for meter maids or parking police.
Great food, friendly service. They provided large jugs/bottles of water so we could refill our own, but the waitress was still very attentive. We never had to wait long to order another drink. Also not a long wait for the food, which was amazing.I had the double exposure and lemonade. The lemonade was very good. The double exposure was also great and the au jus was sublime. I also tried the hot pitas which was good (esp with the hummus and harissa). The peanut sauce was awesome too.Our whole party enjoyed the food & drinks ordered, and definitely would visit again. Prices were in line with the rest of the area as well.
I will be thinking about the bang bang chicken sandwich for the rest of my life. Great food, drinks, and a wonderful garden patio to enjoy it in.
My dirty chai was much to be desired. All of the books and merch are super pricey. The remodel is lovely and the wifi is strong but I miss the old Lompoc.
This place is an absolute gem. We wandered in our first night looking for something fast and light and omg it did not disappoint! We had the peanut wrap and falafel burger…I kid you not, amazing! After trying a few other restaurants in town, we went back for the bahn mi…to die for…pork wrap, and the vegan peanut pizza…so incredible! Don’t pass this one up!
If café and books aren’t enough to get you in the door, maybe the owl wearing a pride flag will? This is an incredibly cool and awesome cafe. Their merchandise is carefully chosen and beautifully displayed, and their food is fantastic. Their drinks menu included beloved drinks (iced london fog), incredible food with awesome names, and legitimately some of the most magnificently perfect fries I have ever eaten. Every employee is kind and thoughtful and there is evidently A high level of camaraderie and respect between them, making the vibes of this place so rejuvenating I got five years back on my life. Please go here if you get a chance- but be kind, respectful, and let it keep its magic! (They also have very kind norms around masking and distancing that make it more understood to mask indoors- a great safety measure that respects all the Cdc says
Chill coffee shop. Perfect for a rainy day.
Great low-key spot to get out of the rain for a Coffee or tea. Interesting book selection and friendly staff. Only drawback...no Blueberry Pie☹️
Very expensive, but the experience is wonderful with a great variety of books and food options. Being able to sit down with a nice drink as well as a book in a cozy place (inside or outside) was wonderful and the servers were very kind
AMAZING! This place has amazing coffee, great books, and incredible customer service. Thanks so much for coffee this morning, & highly recommend going here for a wholesome and enjoyable experience w/ good food.
Delicious food. We had the scallop appetizer and the goat cheese The beehive both were perfect. I had the chicken sandwich with the honey and sriracha they provide, so good. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which he liked as well. Sat outside on their charming patio with a bocce ball court to play while you wait.
Went & got the sandwich “the communist manifesto” WELL HOT DOG, SIGN ME UP FOR THE REVOLUTION. damm that was good.
Great food amazing chill atmosphere, and a good selection of books especially for young adults.
Amazing vegetarian and vegan selection. The wraps are so good
Super cute little restaurant. The menu is kind of small but the meals are delicious. My boyfriend had a thai peanut wrap and he absolutely loved it. I had a shrimp po boy and it was very good as well. Our appetizer was their fresh baked bread with goat cheese, garlic, honey, and apples. It sounds like a weird combination but we ended up loving it. I think it was called the Beehive?? Do yourself a favor and try it
Cute bookstore, cool products, and an awesome pork báhn mì sandwich!!!
Bagels were amazing and the atmosphere lovely
Lots of vegetarian/vegan options and cozy ambience.
By far the best vegan options in Bar Harbor.
What happened.. this place used to be a great restaurant but they completely changed it and I am not a fan. The Bang Bang is one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had, but I highly miss the restaurant atmosphere and the service has dropped noticeably.
The space is lovely, especially the outdoor garden/patio. However, the food was disappointing...the goat cheese salad came in very small portion and the ingredients were lacking (only a few thin slides of squash and peppers)...felt more like a side salad but with a full meal price. The sandwiches from the other tables look better, youd be better off ordering their sandwiches.
This is such a cute spot. Great outdoor and socially distanced seating. I enjoyed an iced dirty chai latte and a bagel with cream cheese. There were a fairly large selection of books available for purchase indoors. Definitely a chill spot to hangout for your morning coffee or catching up on work emails.
I had the honeycomb sandwich, minus the goatchess but added tofu, and it was outstanding. The bread was super fresh, and the tofu was excellent. The best sandwich Ive had in a very long time!
Great little dog friendly outdoor patio. The falafel burger and tofu banh mi were delicious, as were the french fries. Went back for a second time in 3 days. Very friendly staff as well.
Great atmosphere, good food, great service
Best falafel burger ever, great chicken salad. Very cute book store cafe! Highly Recommend
LOVED this place. Cute bookstore and cafe with great food and coffee. I had the tofu banh mi and my husband had the pork banh mi and both were delicious. We were only in Bar Harbor for four nights and didnt try this until our last day. We both wish we discovered it earlier so we could have gone back again before we left.
Casual place to grab a drink or a bite. Food was mostly very good and they also had beers.
Great dog friendly patio that wasnt actually too crowded! Ate here twice and the breakfast and lunch options were great for vegetarians.
Food is creative, tasty, and original. Service is good. Outdoor seating available, convenient to all parts of town. Would give it five stars but they stop serving dinner at 9pm while bar stays open past 1am.
My bahnmi was very good. I think they could work on more clear instructions with regard for how to order since there is no dine in eating.
Had a great experience here. The beehive was awesome, the beer was good and so was my wifes salad. My mac n cheese however was tasteless, like shells only, no cheese taste. Our server was extremely nice and offered to take it off the menu, which is partly why I gave this place 5 stars. Great customer service, even when things dont always go right. I would recommend this place and would eat here again. I didnt catch our servers name but his ID was 7 on the bill. Dark hair and glasses; great service from him.
Hidden little gem with excellent sandwiches and beautiful outdoor cafe seating. The Bang Bang is a must-get and the Honeycomb was unexpectedly delicious (ciabatta is super soft!)
Very good pizza!
Unique assortment of fun flavors all over the menu. The Beehive appetizer is super. We enjoyed the outdoor seating with 2 well-behaved hounds. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will definitely return😋
The grilled cheese with pesto is amazing... The cheese was like really stretchy which made it slightly difficult to eat, but it was easier once it cooled down a little. Tasted awesome either way. So good. Great atmosphere and people, great service, yep. Really good.
Love this book store cafe combination. Super relaxing place, great service, beautiful setting and delicious food.
What a wonderful restaurant! We ate here a Saturday night past the busy season and were thoroughly impressed. The prices were in line with the area. The food quality was amazing, that meatloaf was AMAZING. For customer service, they knocked it out of the park. When I do come back to the area, I will certainly come back to this place.
Cute little spot and nice restaurant. Service was great. Food and drinks were solid.
Wow, wow, wow - phenomenal food and incredible outdoor courtyard with seating. We had the Summer Fritters for appetizers and they were outrageous. Then, we had the Falafel and Duck burgers for dinner. Toppings paired really well and our meals were very filling. If your hesitant about just getting another burger, come here instead. Well thought out and delicious food! Good prices for the area as well.
Good food, great cocktail (try the Acadia!), And awesome dog friendly patio tucked away and off the main Street. It was awesome to have a little breather from how busy the rest of town is. Also, very cute napkins.
Cute and quaint coffee and book shop. Loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the experience.
I sat on the patio with my husband and dogs. The service was great! Everyone loved the dogs. The cocktails were delicious and the food was great. I had the falafel burger; I loved it. Its a cute place. Id totally go back.
Best restaurant we found while in Bar Harbor. Creative and passionate food served in a very relaxed atmosphere. Cheap to moderately priced. Loved the Beehive appetizer and enjoyed the different sandwiches and beers. They also know how to pan fry scallops without turning them into dry nubs.
Loved the atmosphere. It was chilly when we went, so we sat inside, but on a warmer evening, wouldve been lovely to be out in the courtyard area. Really enjoyed the food, and it was affordably priced, especially in Bar Harbor!
Loved this place: cozy with good food. We had the mussels, which were outstanding, and the Deep Breath salad, which was unique and good for a change. It was busy when we arrived, and it took a little while before we were greeted by someone - just felt a little awkward because the space is intimate, and you are right on top of diners as soon as you walk in. Worth the awkwardness, though!
Very good iced latte ! good job :) you know how to make a good ice coffe :)
This place has absolutely amazing food (although no lobster oddly enough), and the restaurant was amazing. However if the last two comments werent true I would give a one star because we saw our server twice and we had to ask other waiters to get drinks. for instance we ordered a beer and it took twenty minutes to get it, the poor service was honestly probably a one time thing I cant imagine it happening every time. But oh my god is the food good.
So delicious! We had an excellent dinner with satisfied parents and kids. Sat outside to take advantage of the sweet garden. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating, also had great suggestions about the menu and the area. Would have gone back if we had the time. Also, they have gluten-free bread.
We have eaten here several times over the last few years, and have never been disappointed. They have excellent vegetarian options on the menu, which can easily be made vegan on request. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Good beer, good food, what more can you want? Highly recommended.
I love this place. One of my favorites in Bar Harbor. Creative menu and lots of veggie options. The hot-todys are very tasty and reasonably priced. Roatating soup and dessert. The Bee Hive app is a must.
The food is amazing and the book selection is great.
Mussels where AWESOME if you like Dijon mustard. I would prefer mine with a little less mustard in the cream sauce. The rest of the season was very good, Nice and spicy- fresh and hot.The price was to low for what I got $11.00, It was NOT an appetizer-it was a meal ! I will send everyone I know to this place all day !!!!
Cool place with a great bar. Food is great. Service was spotty and it wasnt busy, but that could just be the one server. Other servers seemed to be attentive. Great environment for a good time.
Good wholesome food and super friendly staff!
Had dinner here while staying on the island for the weekend and it was fantastic. The staff were all quite friendly and drinks and dinner were superb. They clearly put a lot of effort into the drinks and dinner items! The atmosphere is a great blend of casual and comfortable while still being a bit classy. Definitely recommended!
Really enjoyed the selections here. Cocktails were enjoyable enough that I snapped a photo of the ingredients. Recommend trying to eat outside if possible.
Amazing food and wonderful service! I highly recommend the Beehive appetizer. I had a really yummy Bahn Mi too!
Yummy fries, good coffee, great setup/atmosphere
Amazing food, plenty vegan/ vegetarian options
My husband and I had a delicious meal at Lompoc Cafe. We started with the hot pita appetizer and a bowl of chowder, both of which were warm and tasty. For our entrees we ordered the Bahn Mi and the Bang Bang Chicken sandwiches. Each sandwich was a well-crafted stack of yummy meats and condiments. I would definitely go there again if I didn’t live 600 miles away.
Excellent service, atmosphere and food. Great experience overall. Would highly recommend. Only drawl back is there is limited local food i.e. no lobster
The restaurant is so nice, a bit cozy. The food is delicious, starting with the appetizers, the pizza, everything is so good here. And when is time for the bar by itself is so nice, sometimes there are music bands. The cocktails are so good, and the people are so nice. Its nice to spend some time here with friends.
Often when you hear best ever. you think yeah right. but this was hands down best mac and cheese ever. very adult and creamy. lemonade was so good home made
Never had a bad meal here. Loved the terrace and being back tucked away from main street and the crowds. This was the bar to go to and the place to get a meal during my summer as a park ranger. Good vibe and bar options.
Want a hidden gem? Go here. It was not crowded and had nice outdoor seating. The eclectic menu had surprises in each section. Blueberry ricotta fritters - wow. Funky sandwiches. Bocce in the courtyard.
Awesome food and drinks. The service was excellent from both the bartender and server. Stumbled upon an open mic night one night which was fun. Definitely more of a local spot in a pretty touristy area.
With no reservations made, we just happened across this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat. What a nice little find! Very casual atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating. We brought our dog so we sat outside, which they were perfectly fine with. There was bocce ball available outside as well. The food was very good. I would go back to this place.
Simple menu. We both had great sandwiches. Prices are reasonable. Good service.
Laid back atmosphere. delicious food.We sat out on the back deck/patio. The three kids played boccie ball on there court while we waited for our food.Kids had the pizza and loved it. We split some appetizers with honey, roasted garlic, and goat cheese that was excellent. The beer was good and the service was excellent (and patient)!
The outdoor patio was lovely and the live music was fun. We really enjoyed the pizzas and the appetizers!
Had a pita and peanut sauce app and a bahn mi. Everything was delicious. Would highly recommend
Great atmosphere, service, and amazing food. This place is not as touristy, which was also nice!
Amazingly tasty. I had the layover and would highly recommend. Off the main road so you avoid crowds. If youre looking for local made, unique, and delicious at a good price; I highly recommend.
Interesting, in a good way, eats and delicious cocktails! Not too touristy and very delicious. Try the Goat cheese and garlic appetizer and the Bang Bang chicken sandwich.
I really enjoyed my meal of felafel (gluten free) and a spicy tomato soup with goat cheese. However, my friends bin mAh tasted more like pulled pork and came on chibbata bread rather than the traditional French bread. Disappointing. Atmosphere and service were excellent. The server was very friendly and helpful and she gave us half off the disappointing dish. Ill go back there!
Delicious food and coffee, and exceptional staff.
Delicious food, great service, lovely, relaxed atmosphere on the dog-friendly patio. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will certainly visit again!
