James seems like a really cool, knowledgeable guy. Place was a little hard to find, its at the end of an alley thats left off of East Preston, with commerical buildings at the end.
Very Good work. and. a quick turn around. On repairs
Wonderful customer service, helpful and responsive. Great work from a great shop!
I brought my beloved 15 year old Larivee that I loved to get repaired for a crack and the action fixed, and I could tell that James was the real deal and I discovered some crazy fret work that I had done at GC 10 years back. Now its PRISTINE! Even the crack fix looked great. Fret work was amazing. He stands by his work. For those who need your guitar taken care of, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!
I couldnt be happier with the work Jamie did! I found an old MIM Stratocaster in my mother-in-laws basement. It was in pretty bad shape, and Jamie truly brought it back to life. It plays great now and I love picking it up. So much fun! Appreciate the work he did.
Axedaddy. Nuff said
Phenomenal service on my Big Baby Taylor. The guitar was weathered and in much need of repair. Now the action plays beautifully and the cleaning done on fret board was impeccable. I am grateful for the attention to detail and open communication throughout the process.
Working with James at Old Town Lutherie to fix some issues with my guitars has left my instruments sounding better than I ever imagined they could. James gave me great advice about the value of certain modifications. He is clearly very knowledgeable and talented in all things luthiery-related. James does superb work for a reasonable price. What more could you ask for?
Brought these guys my Rickenbacker 4003S for a set up and they did a fantastic job!James and his crew know what theyre doing and treat your equipment with the care and respect it deserves.Glad I found them and I really encourage others to stop by their workshop!
Ive taken basses to James twice (once for repairs, once for upgrades) and each time he did a fantastic job. He checks in at every step in the process, making sure you get exactly what you want at a reasonable price. Recently, I asked him to put a 3rd pickup in my jazz bass--not exactly a standard upgrade job. However, he was excited about it, we met a few times to plan it out, and now that bass looks and sounds amazing. Definitely going back.
Restoration of my univox hi-flier was beautiful, Jamie knows his stuff!
Seriously some very talented individuals. James set up my Martin acoustic beautifully and exactly how i like it. Bought it used and didnt realize how much was actually wrong with it until i took it to him. After he was done setting it up, it played beautifully (and continues to do so). Professional and fast service, and easy to reach too. My dudes.
James has always gone above and beyond when it comes to making sure my needs are met (not only met, but exceeded). I couldnt imagine trusting my guitars in the hands of another luthier. I highly recommend him for any of your guitar repair needs. You will not be disappointed.Support local business!
I was pleased with the level of service, friendliness of the staff, attention to detail, and lack of intimidation in the whole experience. Guitar is a hobby of mine that I spend maybe 2 hours a week on, so Im not a musician by any stretch. I brought in a late model Ibanez guitar that I had purchased on reverb that was in need of a basic set-up, plus I had some pickups that I wanted installed. The consultation was straightforward, price was reasonable, and the work completed was solid. The only drawback would be time that it took. I had no deadline so it wasnt a big deal, but the instrument was out of my hands for like 2 weeks. Maybe this is even par for the course as Ive never had a guitar set-up before.
James reset the truss rod on a 63 P I brought in. His work was superb. Youd never know there was a repair. Highly recommended for any and all guitar work.
Could not recommend more. Very happy with the experience and the quality of work. Very reasonable pricing and good communication. Looking forward to the next project.
James did a great job in correcting a moderate structural separation on my 30 year old acoustic guitar! I would recommend his lutherie skills to anyone in need of a guitar repair. - Thanks James.
James is the most easy going, and relaxed, guitar luthier Ive ever met. He listened carefully to my issues and went above and beyond on the repairs. Highly recommend.
James did an amazing job restoring both an old Harmony Rocket of mine and an out of commission Fender Tele. Both came back better than expected and a fast turnaround. Definitely recommending him to all of my friends!
James is a real craftsman, made my electric and acoustic guitars sound great. Friendly and courteous service to boot.
James is the man, and Old Town only does excellent work. I recommend them first to anyone in the area in need of guitar repair.
Jamie is a magician. I would never let anyone else touch my guitars. Ive brought him a vintage Strat (which he re-wired perfectly), a custom languedoc replica (with no backplate. Only entrance to electronics was through the F holes and he still fixed an electronic problem), and a martin acoustic that was literally dropped onto a hardwood floor and smashed (which he glued together and its like new). Dude is the man and Old Town Lutherie is the best place in Maryland to take your guitars. There are faster techs out there, but nobody has the attention to detail that Jamie does. Rock on!
Very loveable guy, always takes care of my guitars like theyre his own.
James did a great job on my vintage Airline Swingmaster. He replaced the truss rod and did a full refret. It plays great now!
Knowledgeable, friendly folks - they did a great job fixing up my mandolin! Thank you!
James and his team are awesome. Trusted him with a 67 telecaster and they got it back together and playing beautifully.
I have a 1971 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that decades ago had a seriously botched Don Teeter style fret job done to it where there was epoxy all over the fretboard and the frets were sitting on top of the epoxy in a really strange and mostly terrible way. Its the sort of job that will eventually need to be dealt with and I am terrified to do because its the oldest thing I own and is otherwise a very nice instrument. Now, there are tech jobs and there are lutheir jobs. I will argue with great intensity that this is the latter. Its a difficult surgical procedure to un-Teeter a fretboard, but he did it and with flying colors. Id hate to wish more work like that upon anyone, but hey, if you have a fretted instrument that has suffered under the influence of an epoxy-laden Teeter disciple and youd like it not to be, James is your man.Since the procedure involves a refret, he did that as well. All of the frets are snug against the board with no dead spots or anymore glue spillage. No frets buzzing. I dare say it sustains better now than at any point of my ownership of this guitar. To say Ive never been happier with this guitar would be an understatement. I trust him with my delicate jobs and Im coming from NoVA. Id come from further away and if thats ever the case, Id happily ship any instruments there that need work done in the future. In short, James is a good human being that will first discuss with you what youre going for with your instrument and help you get as close to it as possible. I cant recommend Old Town enough.
This repair shop is all around shop that do work on all types of guitars far as finishes paint jobs and more at a reasonable price but the things that I do not like about this guitar repair shop is the repair person takes forever to do work and do not let you check your instrument in the shop so I had some electrical work done which is very serious because you cant not tell is something wrong until you plug up and what makes me mad is he did a very horrible job and he did not pay attention to what I was asking him to do so I had to wind up going somewhere else because the electronics failed on me at a gig so because of that I do not recommend this shop to no one
James knows whats up. Great work, great guy.
This shop is run by a powerful wizard.
This guitar shop is very unprofessional and they did not do a good job of fix my gutiar it took them 2 months and i had to wind up going somewhere else because the work they did failed on me
