Very nice neighborhood gem. A little coffee shop, bar, tea house, eatery, and craft shop all in one nice little old building. Nice staff too. Also a nice place to just sit outside and watch traffic and people go by. Will be coming back again…

Received a very cold interaction from the ladies working at the store. stopped by during late morning on a weekday to enjoy the same experience as the other positive reviewers have enjoyed. Turns out good morning or hello was too much to ask. Espresso was made from a basic home espresso machine and the lady did not know how to properly extract coffee. As a neighborhood store that relies on the local support and business, the customer service should be priority as word of mouth is a real thing. Mediocre espresso is one thing, but difficult to understand why these businesses cant provide basic courtesy to their patrons.

I can’t believe I never knew this place was here! I have a feeling I’m going to be spending a lot of money here. I basically want my home to look like the inside of this shop. Plus, LOVE that they have an indoor/outdoor cafe. All of their items are fair trade and ethically sourced, including the coffee and chocolate. Also, the staff are so nice! Also also they have WiFi. Also also also, is it weird that I REALLY like their music?

Whoever was the cashier ignored my family and me when we said hello multiple times, despite making clear eye contact with us. As people of color, this rubbed us the wrong way, and when we told her this, she was extremely cold.Poor customer service, will not be returning.

So glad I found this store! Great selection. I got a range of items: socks, carved salad tongs, candles, chocolate and earrings. I received my items promptly and I was happy with everything (sometimes hard to tell online).I actually bought my items about a month ago. Knowing that I have helped artisans from other countries still makes me feel good. Will definitely shop here again!

Trade Roots is my go-to store for buying almost all of my birthday, Christmas, wedding, + baby gifts. There are so many unique, handcrafted gifts that support artisans who are local to the area and others who are located all over the world. This female owned business is such a gem, and the owner and staff are so kind and welcoming! I am not a coffee drinker but there is a sweet little coffee shop attached to the store. If youre looking for a unique and stunning piece of jewelry, houseware, childrens gifts, or countless other beautiful works of art, definitely check out this shop in Westover!

Trade Roots is my go to store for gifts throughout the year. There are so many beautiful things to chose from and I always leave with the perfect gift. There are a variety of unique items for everyone on your list--clothing, jewelry, housewares, toys, purses, edible gifts, candles...the list goes on and on. You can bet on finding a one of a kind gift and the store has such a nice ambiance. Bring along a friend and you can catch up in the coffee/wine bar tucked in a cozy corner of the store. You can also enjoy a delicious baked good or a small plate such as a hummus platter or a savory pot pie. Trade Roots is truly a gem nestled among the shops at Westover.

I’ve been frequenting Trade Roots as long as it’s been in Westover. I LOVE IT! I can always find a great gift or something fun. Love the coffee bar because it’s cozy, comfy and relaxing. The owner recently started global dinners and evening events which just makes it more appealing. There’s wine and beer, food and friends. It’s more than a “shop”.....it’s got the passion, personality and individuality of the owner and those who work there and it weaves the local community, with the global community. I love it.

Great coffee and a warm atmosphere. We walked in on a cold weekday morning and found a warm shop full of working students and professionals. There were very few seats available, since everyone was so snuggled in. They had 4 brewed coffees available - a really nice selection! The pastries werent great choosings, but at least they had some options. The service was fast and friendly.

I’ve worked in and out of the Westover area for about 10 years. I’ve driven and walked past where this shop is so many times. It was once a record store, then a “trade roots” shop, but I never bothered to go in because I was always pre-occupied with work. But within the past year or so, I gave myself a break and treated myself to a visit, only to be pleasantly surprised that it included a coffee shop! Browsing the store was my therapy for the day and the atmosphere was so awesome. I was really into everything and felt an excitement about the whole concept of helping others and helping myself to this treat! I remember walking out of there with a new lease on life. I knew I had to go back because it was totally up my alley and I was curious to meet the person who owned such a cool place. Anyway, I finally went back because I hadn’t yet tried there coffee. Turns out, they have the BEST coffee in the entire VA/DC/MD area! Who knew? I knew at that moment. Because I’ve tried it all, and Illy used to be my favorite coffee (the Italian Store is literally across the street) but after I tried the espresso at Trade Roots, I was instantly hooked and have never looked back. Trust me. Try the espresso. Get a latte, an americano, you name it. I don’t know what it is with theirs, I’ve even tried the $80 a pound Kopi Luwak coffee before and it doesn’t compare. (Please Google it lol) So, long story not so short, I make it my duty to go back there each week to not only take a break for myself, but to really make a difference in other people’s lives, which I believe life is all about. And, if I’m going to drink coffee anyway, I would much rather be in an inviting atmosphere that makes me feel good, slow me down, and know that literally everything in the store is fair trade. Oh, and did I mention the espresso is the best I’ve ever tasted? They have it all, unusual teas, real matcha, Vietnamese coffee, Turkish coffee...
