I just got off the phone with a Bivouac employee who, once again, went the extra mile right before (and even after) closing time to help me find what i need for a field trip to Wetlands around Detroit tomorrow morning. I have seen this team repair gear i bought elsewhere, help me find the perfect items in their store, and just generally make me feel they have my back with all outdoor and active wear needs for years. Thanks Bivouac!

I thankfully found Bivouac Sports 3-4 years ago. Over the years I’ve been blessed to have a job that enabled me to spend a amount significant time in Alaska which whet my interest and appetite for all things outdoors. After finding Bivouac I have done almost all of my outdoor purchases with them. They carry the best products...PLUS... their employees are experts and always extremely helpful and responsive. It also feels so right and good to do business with small, locally owned people that live and breath the outdoors. Plus they truly care about their customers. Enough of the huge corporate box stores or the infamous company that sells everything.... we must keep stores like Bivouac in business as they SO DESERVE IT and work super hard to earn and keep our business.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. When I entered the store with my friend, one of the workers immediately gave us a side eye. She eventually greeted us in an unenthusiastic tone. When we were looking at the candles in the front of the store, we overheard her saying to another worker that she should “keep an eye on them.” Immediately my friend and I (both of us being people of color) realized that we were being racially profiled. As we moved along the store the worker who was asked to keep an eye on us followed us. Different workers followed us as we moved to various sections of the store. When we finally decided that we had had enough and left, we noticed that the worker who initially gave us a look said good bye to the person who left before us, but gave us a look and did not say anything to us as we left. This was our first time in the store, and I can definitely say that we will not come back after that discriminatory experience. A completely unwelcoming environment.

Amazing customer service! Emails are promptly answered and refunds issued quickly for online orders that dont work out. I will definitely purchase from this company again.

Needed a new coat and tried on a few of their recommendations based on my needs. Bought an arcteryx park and could not be more happy with my purchase or the service! They also have an amazing rewards program, plus tons of outdoor gear for kids (it’s hard to find such quality and selection for littles!)

They tend to have pretty good sales if you can be patient. Just bought a nice down parka in July for 50% off. Every two or three visits I happen across a great deal for high quality clothing/gear.

Super fast shipping for a small business. I ordered a sweatshirt from bivouac online and shoes from adidas.com on the same day - the sweatshirt showed up the next day and the shoes took over a week.I also ordered a hiking backpack from bivouac 10 years ago and they had excellent advice. They asked about my plans, how much I needed to pack, whether I was going on a plane or not and helped me pick out the perfect bag. I still use it regularly today.Also, everything here is quality. It is expensive, but I’ve never regretted any purchase from here. Return policy is generous if it doesn’t work out.

The customer service was great! I bought climbing shoes here and got them price matched to an online sale. However, I used them two times before a defect, small rip in the toe, became prominent (this was not visible at the time of purchase). I brought them in about a month later and they happily swapped them out for a new shoe! They did so without asking any questions and without the original receipt. This is a great store for premium outdoor clothing and gear. The staff is always helpful, including recommending competitor stores if they dont carry what I need. I appreciate a store whose staff puts the needs of their customers ahead of profits. It earns my trust and I am less likely to shop around if Bivouac already has what Im looking for.

Ive been shopping at Bivouac for 28 years. I thought it was awesome back then. Well, it just keeps getting better. From the highest end outdoor wear and gear, to packs and accessories, Bivouac has it all. Everyone is very friendly, and very accommodating. If you need anything like what Ive mentioned, this is definitely your spot. I simply cant wait to hitt Bivouac when I need something new, its so much fun shopping there!!

Price is a bring back, received sooner than promised; Vasque Breeze lll hiking boots fit to size; are weightless as I float above the clouds when I jog/walk, totally subduing the pain from the pad of the ball of my foot— true magic.Thank you Bivouac. This was the first place I ever shopped in downtown Ann Arbor when I abruptly transferred to UM in January 2014. I had 0 down stuff and had no idea what down products even were. haha I also did not by any means have good snow boots. I still wear that Patagonia down vest. Highly recommend this place. Usually the customer service is great, and sometimes downstairs they have some good discounts. Its also a mom and pop shop so youre supporting a small business. They also, from what I understand from my friends, pay their employees really well. Definitely shop here if youre in the market for any outdoors stuff!

Huge outdoor supply store that has been operating in Ann Arbor for quite a long time. They have almost anything you could possibly need for climbing, hiking, backpacking, camping, you name it. The staff is quite friendly and offered to assist me numerous times while I was browsing. If you can find what you are looking for they will special order your gear and have it waiting for pickup in a reasonable amount of time. With big stores like REI taking over the outdoor industry is always great to support small shops like this.

Knowledgeable service staff. Has a poorly organized inventory. When they check for you size of shoe, they may have it, but may not know with 100% accuracy. Prices comparable to REI, better selection of clothing name brand clothing. I would definitely go back but it wont be my exclusive retailer for outdoor clothing.

Lots of gear for outside - hiking, climbing, camping, and more. Great, informative staff that are always willing to help. Price match which is huge and lots of selection in everything. Willing to hold stuff aside for you for 24 hours if you cant make it in right away to get what you need. Overall great!

I placed an online order for a discontinued item. Once I placed the order, Aaron notified me that they were having an in-store sale on the item and refunded me ~30% of the online price. I live in CO and would never have known about the sale otherwise. The customer service throughout was excellent.

Cool shop with high quality gear and clothing. Staff on the south side of the store is always friendly and helpful -- but thats not always the case on the north (arcade) side. Visit around art fair when they have their big annual sale!

Awesome local outdoor supply store. Anything youd need for camping, hiking, climbing; plus plenty of helpful know-how from the friendly employees. As an extra, for fashionable gals, theres a nice selection of trendy boutique-worthy tops, skirts, dresses, and denim to peruse. All on a pleasant stretch of lovely State St where you can take a leisurely stroll to discover plenty of the local charm of Ann Arbor.

This local Ann Arbor shop features camping, hiking and related outdoor supplies in addition to clothing. They have a very good selection and staff willing to help you find the right item. When a size Ive needed is out ic stock theyve always offered to order it in for me or procure an option from a vendor they sell but do not carry in stock.

This place is amazing, I called to make a purchase and spoke to AJ Davidson what a gentleman. Aj was extremely kind and respectful, he knew how to take care of somone who is calling from the other side of the country. Its people like him who make small businesses a success. The store is great and so are the employees. My only suggestion would to scale back on the number of staff on the sales floor. I understand if its for loss prevention but its still a little overwhelming when Im the only guy in there. Other than that its a really cool store!

I like the selection, although its kind of expensive. I always feel like the employees are hovering around me and talking to me over and over again, when Im trying to look around. It makes me very uncomfortable, and as a result, I just end up leaving and ordering stuff.Also, Ive noticed that theres usually a significant markup between their price and the price you can get from a larger retailer online. This is especially noticeable when they stock previous seasons styles, which are heavily discounted online, but sold at the original price in store.

Great selection of premium outdoor products but the location doesnt really offer much that would draw me in from larger outdoor recreational retail chains other than hiring local students as models. That doesnt mean theyre not a good store with a fantastic location; they could just do more. Or they could be more fun... like Moosejaw!

Bivouac completely blew me away with their level of product knowledge, customer service, and responsiveness. I needed a dress shirt ASAP for a wedding and reached out to Bivouac with questions about their shipping options. I was quickly put in contact with the team member best suited to answer my questions. AJ was able to offer excellent advice and made solid suggestions for an alternative option when we found out one of the sizes was not in stock. Not only was AJ able to point me in the right direction, he also over-delivered on his promised shipping speed. Everything I needed arrived a day before the guaranteed date! It may not sound like much, but with the time frame I was working with, the extra 24 hours was VERY welcome. I definitely would not hesitate to recommend Bivouac and will be shopping there again in the future. Thanks again!

I was super excited about the selection. I am starting a new job and the lady that assisted me tried to downplay my job and told me I should be doing something else. To give a little backstory, I am potentially looking to become a park ranger in the future but I am trying to get more experience and a better feel for the atmosphere working outdoors. Right now I work in management in customer service for a software company. I am starting a new volunteer experience in a month that will give me more backcountry and ecosystem restoration experience. She told me that I should be doing controlled burns instead to become Red certified and basically you are going to be clean up crew for what I did is what she said. Then she mentioned that her job provided a backpack and all her equipment and mine requires for me to purchase it on my own. It felt like she thought her job was better than my future opportunity. I told her I am really excited about my position and I felt like she kept on downplaying it. Then she tried to tell me how much weight I would have to carry at my job when the position coordinator at my job informed me multiple times what I will be carrying. That didnt frustrate me as much, but that took it for the worst. I wont be back. They are way more helpful at REI. Go there instead. Everyone at REI has been great and always willing to listen to get a better understanding of your needs. REI actually recommended this place because of pack selection. I love great customer service, but I feel like I didnt receive it this time around.

Wide selection spread out over two floors. The best part is that they sell some out of season items. Shoe selection is ok but wish they carried Minnetonka mens styles. The womens fit ok but i want options for us guys too

I bought a pair of chacos and after three days my feet were hurting horrendously and they refused to do anything about it because i didnt have the box which i left ay the store to have recycled...next purchases will definitely be made at rei whi back up everything they carry for at least a year!!!
