This was my first visit to fat ptarmigan.I ordered the spicy reindeer pizza.I’m my opinion, the pizza would be better with more sauce and less cheese.Also, I’d prefer mozzarella only. Adding provolone cheese in order to be different…is too different.Portion size small for the price.2/3 employees I met were positive energetic and engaging. The third was self absorbed.I’m not planning on a revisit.

We came back to this place after visiting it earlier in the week. When the weather is nice, eating on the outdoor patio is awesome. Youre right in the middle of downtown activity. We also like the ciders. My wife prefers the pineapple, I was fond of the dry hopped. Even the extra dry was very palatable. Pizza is also very good.

Was looking for a quick bite for lunch when I walked into this cute place. The ciders were so good. I’d totally go with a flight so you can try all of them. I also had the mushroom pizza which was so good. Crust was handmade and the toppings just melted into your mouth. Tasted very farm to table which I love. I will be making this a regular stop for when I return.

Menu items dont include full ingredients, very frustrating for those with dietary restrictions.I ordered soup and salad combo, beer cheese soup and house salad. Beer cheese soup had unlisted pieces of ham in it so I did not eat it. Salad dressing ramekin was tiny and when I poured it on my salad, half of the ramekin was filled with cucumber slices so there was not nearly enough dressing for even half of the salad.Understaffed but good service on my last visit.

We had a wonderful lunch of pizza and salads. Everything was tasty and fresh. The service was great and quick, family friendly as well. I would definitely recommend dining here.

Had a very good lunch at this place. Nothing fancy just a salad and soup. I recommend their beer cheese soup. The indoor dining area was modern with local art posted on some of the walls. The service was great and attentive. Definitely something different specializing in cider beers.

We are locals and love eating here...normally.Always eat in where I can ask that they include enough basil on the margarita pizza for more than 1 bite. Otherwise the pizza looks like the one I ordered for carry out today. What a huge disappointment!Even though I asked the person on the phone to make sure there was enough basil for more than 1 bite, their promise to double check was pointless.Shame on me for not looking before I left but after 35 minutes to get it, I rushed home. Shouldnt have to check but I should have. Lesson learnedThe meatballs were fabulous.

I would skip this place. The service is NOT good. I ordered a half salad, pizza and cider flight. The salad and pizza arrived before the drinks. No water, no plate, = No service. I had the beer cheese pizza and it was not good, The center of the pizza was cold. See photo. The cheese was running as you can see in the pan. Overall was just not good experience. There are great places in Anchorage and this in not one of them. Yes I know, they cannot get enough help.Many other places in Anchorage are excellent and yes they have the same problems.Sorry Fat Ptarmigan.

Pizza was really good with some interesting choices like reindeer sausage. Wings were good, and the locally made hard ciders were excellent. Friendly staff, and highly recommend.

Nice looking place. Very quiet when we visited around 2 on a winter Saturday afternoon. Loved the Christmas cranberry and pineapple ciders. Food was good. They had a changing table in the restroom as well.

Great pizza and excellent Mac and cheese. Friendly service. Place is a bit small and can get overwhelmed but they worked it well, even calling us on our phone to tell us our table is ready.

The fire grilled pizzas were great. The service was excellent. This was reindeer sausage and mushrooms. My daughter had the Hawaiian pizza. Delicious food.

I used to work here as a dishwasher the place is very sanitary and covid clean I only give it a 3 because a 5 would bring,,,,,,,its only a 5 because he worked their.

Decided to do a quick stop in for lunch. Sat in the open top seating. Food and drinks came out quick. Tried the cherry Lau and pineapple cider together a 3 to 1 ratio leaning more towards pineapple which was delicious. Food was unique but packed full of complimentary flavors. This is a must try spot.

Our food was shockingly delicious. I say shockingly only because how can you make garlic bread and Mac N Cheese great? They did! The chicken wings were great as well!4 stars souly because service was very slow and only one other table of two there.

The food was good. Ordering online was difficult and when I called there was no answer. I went to order in person were I observed the phone and front desk left unattended while people tried to dine in, call and pick up there orders. I would love to see better service here.

Pizzas worth going out of your way for: mushroom pie, skinny ptarmigan, and the one with the spicy deer 👌 Im not a huge cider fan, but they also have a tasty beer and wine selection. The service was great my second time, but the first time they simply forgot our order and didnt even visit the table for ~45 min (hence 4/5 stars). There are two clean unisex bathrooms onsite, and plenty of nearby street parking options. Its also just 15 min from the Ted Stevens Anchorage airport, so easy to Lyft to/from while waiting for a flight. Theyre an admittedly touristy place, but the flavors -- especially the intense truffle on the mushroom pie -- make it worth the hype. Hope this review helps!

We traveled to Alaska for vacation and stayed at The Hotel Captain Cook. We were tired and hungry, walked into Fat Ptarmigan - and had the best pizza EVER. It soured my tastebuds for others....It was soooooo good. You could taste it. It was not drowned in sauced and complementary flavors (toppings). Delicious!!!! When we return to Anchorage, we definitely will return. I am jealous of Alaskans who can partake regularly.

The pizza is exceptional. The ambiance is perfect for a first date. Thats exactly the reason I would come here.They are so good that they often run out of ingredients due to the sheer volume of customers. For that reason I would plan to be there earlier rather than show up right before closing.Also they have a decent selection of alcohol but this is definitely not a place I would go if drinking was my priority.

Absolutely amazing food and customer service! It’s almost always busy in the summer but so worth the wait, the blackened chicken pizza is my personal favorite and everyone working there is incredibly nice and goes above and beyond for their guests. I can’t say enough good things about Fat Ptarmigan!

This pizza and cider spot was perfect for us as a family visiting Anchorage. The only restaurant we went to twice in the city! Really good pizza, nice beer and cider. Good kids options. Solid!

Food was alright. The start of the experience was not. When we got into the restaurant the staff were friendly and we got seated immediately. A waiter came quickly and we ordered. 1 hour and 15 minutes later there are still only 5 other tables filled and we still don’t have our food. Speed of food was bad and waiter never came to tell us if it was even getting close. Even with the worker shortage there is no reason food should take that long with few customers.

Pizza is pretty gross, too much flour on the bottom, undercooked, greasy cheese. But the beer and cider collection is great. Also, waitstaff could not get us to leave soon enough.

The pizza is okay at best, but compared to the ample options in Anchorage, even just downtown, youre better off going elsewhere. The pizza is passable, but far more expensive than its worth. Service has only ever been spotty at best. In my opinion, you should go to Flat Top or Uncle Joes instead if youre looking for pizza downtown.

Everywhere in anchorage is understaffed and to the people who do show up everyday and work twice as hard, you don’t go unnoticed! I love this restaurant definitely recommend trying the flight of ciders or the odd man rush Goldie. The margarita pizza is amazing and the wings are a MUST!

This place was pretty awesome! I ordered the Fat Greek pizza and garlic cheese bread. The pizza is about 12 so its a good sized portion. The cheese bread was great, just wish it came out as an appetizer instead of with my meal. Ended with the salted caramel gelato. The staff was friendly and attentive. Will visit again!

It was a spur of the moment decision based purely on gluttony and the need for pizza. I purchased the beer cheese pizza and I was not disappointed. My wife ordered the soup of the day and salad. She can be a picky eater but found it quite enjoyable.

Awesome spot for drinks and pizza. Very GF friendly and knowledgeable staff about allergies. With my daughter and I having Celiac, we appreciated how informed our waiter, Edward, was. The whole restaurant has a cool vibe and delicious food. We even went back two days later and luckily had Edward again as our waiter. Same great service and food.

Spent the weekend in Anchorage and this was hands down the best place we went too. My table ordered everything from salads, pizza and appetizers. No one complaint, best food we’ve had. I loved their ciders so much I bought my first hat in 15 years from their merch station!

The first time I had a pizza from here, it was very disappointing quality. Couldnt taste the toppings through the layers of carbon, yes it was very burnt. My pecan pie did not come with utensils; the gelato melted. Ordered via 907 delivery.A couple days later, I ordered a new pizza and it was actually really good. A consistent wood fired flavor without the excessive carbon coating.Ive included the before and after photos.Good news: Management is very nice and is all about QC. I dont know if their ovens are too hot or if their cooks are too preoccupied on a Tuesday night-- but, they did offer to make it right. I would try this place again.

I don’t know what was going on here today, but clearly the staff is inexperienced, untrained, completely mismanaged & just does not care about their guests at all.We arrived around 2pm, waited over an hour fit a 30 minute wait only to discover the host wrote out number down incorrectly. When we didn’t answer, they didn’t bother to look outside & see if we were there. Honestly we should’ve left then.Once we were seated, it took 15+ minutes for a manager to take out order, saying they were having staff issues. It’s post-COVID times, we’ve both worked in restaurants, so we tried giving them a chance anyway.Our veggie pizza finally came out, lukewarm, and after a few bites, we realized it didn’t have any mozzarella (just…how did none of the cooks or servers catch this??). We went ahead & ate because we didn’t see the manager after that, and we’re apparently never assigned a server.Getting the check was another minor fiasco. We sat for 10+ minutes after finishing our food, but finally had to go to the host stand to ask for the check. We were sent back to it table to wait for our server, but we didn’t have a server. We waited another 5 minutes or so before heading back to the host stand again. Someone printed a check, we finally paid & left over 2 hours after we arrived.The pizza was decent (missing cheese notwithstanding), so I sincerely hope they get their staffing & management issues figured out. Everyone inside seemed pretty touristy, so I doubt they’re getting much local business. I hate to write this, but I don’t want someone else to have the same awful experience. We honestly kept wondering if we were being pranked the while time.

Absolutely love this place! Their food is amazing and the guy making our food was so nice to my boys showing them how he was making their meals. I got the wild Alaska salmon pizza, they got the mac and cheese (best macaroni and cheese Ive ever had, hands down) and we shared the meatballs. Everything was top notch.

Ordered 1 pizza tonight at 7:09pm for pickup. Order continued to show an estimated completion time of 7:29pm. Took my time walking to the restaurant and as I’m turning the corner, I check my email. Almost 35 minutes after placing my order, I’m sent an email that my order was canceled. As I’m now outside the restaurant, I walk in and explain what happened. I’m told by the person at the counter that “they aren’t accepting to-go order tonight, because we only have 2 cooks and are short staffed.” You can imagine my disbelief as I look around and see a few tables of people inside eating... seriously, is someone playing a prank on me? So I ask “am I able to get a table, order my food and than take it to go?” Of course not, because they are only doing dine-in, no carry-out.I get you’re understaffed, but if you don’t want to accept carry-out orders: Don’t let people place orders for carry-out, so you can cancel them a half hour later!

Went here for dinner on a Friday night at about 7:30. Place was busy but it wasnt full. Was greeted and seated immediately. Once we sat down though, the service really slowed down. It took a while to order drinks and our food. Same thing for our food to come out. Server was friendly though. Food was good. We split the pretzel as an appetizer and the Margherita pizza which was plenty of food for the two of us.

Good wood fired pizza. Added bbq wings and an orange cream float to top it off.

Our server didnt seem to care to be there. She gave us dirty looks when we requested something, no greeting when she came over after 12 minutes of being seated with nothing, no asking how everything was at the end of our meal (very unhappy with both pizzas). She was busy talking in the corner to another employee the entire time and couldnt care less about working.Pizzas were both burnt -- I mean black/charred not slightly burnt and still edible and so was our artichoke dip. Will not be back.

Not only were the staff incredibly accommodating, the pizza was so delicious. OK, full disclosure - I have celiac disease and was a bit worried about eating in Anchorage. We found this place and not only were they totally knowledgable regarding my needs, the pizza was incredible! I came back and ate here 3 times during my stay. My non-celiac husband enjoyed it as much as I did.The atmosphere is also wonderful. Not dark and dank. I enjoyed the vibe as much as the food.The cider they have on tap is REALLY good too.If you want great pizza and drink, come here.

We loved their Margherita pizza very much. Soft crust, great sauce, shredded basil was a nice touch.

Food ok, the pizza was okay.. My lasagna tasted like it was in the oven all day.. Oh, we got our appetizers last- 5 min after we were done with dinner, but was hot & fresh.

I think its great that anchorage has a spot like this. Decent pizza, decent ciders, good atmosphere. Honestly I went in to try the ciders which I was pleased with (alot of semi-dry ciders) but I stayed for the spicy reindeer pizza...fantastic. very low key.

The beverage service was great; that was our primary objective. There were 5 of us. We were able to sit in a street side, open air pavilion during this Corona Virus time. Very pleasant and distanced spacing, safety precautions were taken. We had great tasting hard ciders by Double Shovel, as well as a couple of local micro brews, Midnight Sun and King Street..We only went for an appetizer and that day was not the day for the Spinach Dip. The taste would have been great had it not been burnt. Dont know why it was burnt; the kitchen wasnt busy. The pita bread (their house pizza crust) served with it was very tasty.Because of the location and outside seating, Im sure well be back.

Fat Ptarmigan pizza is delicious, tasty, and reasonably priced. As well, you can design your own pizza. Make sure to sit at bar-top near the brick-oven and watch your mouthwatering pizza being made. Enjoy!

Great pizza, overpriced. I was rolling solo and they only sell one size. So, I got a kids cheese pizza instead and it was $8.
