Place is terrible truck shifts terrible after a 4,000$ +Rebuild every time I took it back for warranty he said it was something new and more expensive each time also had stuff stolen from my vehicle while it was in his shop including my old receipt from him with warranty… it’s a 3500 it’s supposed to be pulling heavy stuff yet can’t even go up a mountain on it own weight

I had Chet at Alaska gear and transmission / A transmission exchange “rebuilt” my transmission and after I installed it instantly started throwing code for the transmission so after the third time he claimed to fix it I had to go to Quality transmission for them to verify it wasn’t working, and let’s just say they know about Chet and had nothing good to say but I brought it back to Chet only for him to charge me again and told me it worked so I pick up my Jeep and instantly has codes on so I call him and told him it still wasn’t working he told me I could bring it back to him now I already got two skews in my tires, they killed my optimal battery and replaced it with a Napa battery and I called his shop prior to this call to tell them the codes for the transmission were still on and was told “no it’s not” so I went to Anchorage Chrysler for them to look at it and the said I need a new transmission I’ve had this transmission for 9 months. After all this I wouldn’t trust Alaska gear and transmission to change my oil

Car would not shift from first to second when cold, shifted high rpm and hard when warmer.Told front desk guy that, got billed 2400 for a new trans, paid, received car, and problem is now worse ( colder outside). The guy who did the rebuild did not hear symptom from me, customer until today, 6 weeks later. He is now suggesting some other things that might be wrong....so ...what about my $2,400.00. Clearly I did not need a new transmission if a new rebuilt one acts the same...he said something about a radiator hose???Waiting to hear back, no offer to give us our $2,400 dollars back for a repair that didnt need doing.Dont go here!2,400 spent on a new transmission I clearly didnt need.

I took my 2007 GMC to Alaska Gear because the dealership would not cover warrant. I haul my trailer that is very heavy and my transmission would slip really bad when going into 2nd and 3rd gear and would slip in overdrive. I had my truck at the dealership 3 times and the replaced the transmission every time, they said the converter was the problem.. My transmission is a 6 speed Allison. I called all the transmission shops in Anchorage and all but one was willing to work on it. I called Alaska Gear on Boniface, I told them what was going on and they said it could be fixed. I told them I wanted all heavey duty parts so this problem would not happen again. They ordered extra heavey duty parts including parts for my custom converter. I told them I needed to have 1,000 lbs of torque. I needed better fuel milage, I was only getting 13 mpg and that sucked.. When the job was done, I got 23 mpg and much better shifting. This truck was better than ever. The job took a little longer than I expected but it was worth the wait!! I was so excited by the time I got back to Fairbanks I had to call them and tell them I was ver happy with all the work they did. I dont know abot the other reviews that are on here, but I would say these guys are the best!!
