I was headed to a different destination when I drove passed this store. When I was headed home, I made sure to drop in - [COMICS] will always grab my attention. The store is nice, has a good selection of back issues for DC, Marvel and Indie titles, as well as graphic novels. I really like the comic packs and are fairly priced for popular runs/arcs. Their new releases are clearly marked and organized. I originally came to look for some obscure toys or statues- fairly limited selection but I had a fun time looking through their stock. It was also nice to see a small group of guys playing Magic the Gathering (I think?). I love visiting comic shops so this was a bright spot of that day.

This is the first time my daughter (14) and I (woman of a certain age) have ever been in a comic book store. I had no idea what to expect. We walked out with every book the owner recommended. He was so kind and giving of his time to help us newbies understand where to begin. He spoke directly to my daughter asking her what she specifically liked within the Marvel universe and made pointed recommendations based on her interests. His knowledge of storylines was impressive. He could not have been more inviting and helpful. What a warm and welcoming first step this was into the wonderful world of comics. Highly, highly encourage you to visit this establishment.

I just left from here and have nothing but good things to say about it. It was my first time buying comic books and I knew ahead of time what I wanted. I went into the store and was greeted by a friendly smile from the owner. He asked if I needed help and he showed me where to find what I was looking for. Everything is bagged and boarded (even new releases). Prices are fair. Owner is nice and can be helpful with suggestions for new comic books to read. Overall, shop is clean and well-organized (I think they are in the middle of doing a little rearranging atm). I will be back whenever I am in the area.

Great store. Obviously lots of comics, but also gaming tables and plenty of gaming supplies. We talked with the owner for a while during a sales visit and he gave us great feedback on our kickstarter project. Really great guy. This is a big store with a lot of inventory. Definitely worth the trip.

Modern Age Comics is a great place to get comics and collectibles.Jesse, the stores owner, is very helpful and knowledgeable. The man is a database for all things comics; if you have a question, he has the answer or can find out extremely quickly. He is great with kids and often can give suggestions for their age groups and maturity levels based on the childs interest.There are plenty of comics to peruse. Back issues, new comics, graphic novels, and clearance specials are well categorized and easy to look through. If they dont have the issue that youre looking for, Jesse can track it down and get it to you easily.

While this store was sold out of a lot of the new comics I was looking for, their back catalogue was very impressive. Nice, organized store. I get tired of walking into comic stores that are poorly organized with too much other clutter. It was nice to go into a comic store that focuses on only comics, instead of toys and all the other extra junk sold in some comic stores. It was also nice to walk in as a female comic fan and not be talked down to by certain male employees, like Ive experienced at other stores. Just a nice, simple, clean, well organized store, run by a knowledgeable manager. Very nice guy.

This store had a friendly and helpful clerk with a wide variety of organized and well-priced back issues. Even during an event, the clerk was helpful and asked thoughtful questions. Theres is a variety of comic books, and everything is organized in a way that makes it easy for you to find what youre use looking for. The man who worked there was very friendly and engaged with me about different comic series, and new additions to the stores collection. It is a small store, but I think it gives it a cozy feel.

Quintessential comic book store! The environment is friendly, the selection is diverse (both current and back issues), and the owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Also on a huge plus side the store is not cramped like other shops Ive been to. You can walk around the place without feeling as though youre going to knock something over at any minute.

Solid selection with excellent customer service. If he doesnt have it, he can get it. Comics are bagged and boarded, and his subscription service is terrific. The shop is completely family friendly, too, with all-ages comics plus a knowledgeable owner who works with local libraries who can help you find what youre looking for if youre new to comics. The Saturday morning comics discussion group is also a great way to hear about new comics and maybe try titles you wouldnt have otherwise. Its a shop that also has a strong and welcoming community, and that makes it stand out in my eyes.

Been a while since I read a book. Guy asked me questions and recommended a few options. Picked one. And I dig it. Also got a few comics for my boys. So they have stuff for adults and young kids. Highly recommended.

It was ok. My only reason for 3 stars was the junk that seemed to be everywhere. They should have what they are working on in a different place but I was walking over stuff just to get to some boxes. Then there was stuff on top of those boxes as well. Talking to the guy working there was at least nice but its more the fact I came to look for stuff, not move things around to get to them.

I wish more of these types of stores existed. Great comic book, with D&D on Wednesdays

I visited this site with two of my children, ages 10 & 8. It was our first time visiting and wasnt sure what to do. Jesse was very helpful in directing me to age appropriate content and answering questions that I had and even anticipating questions that I was going to have. I could tell that he was extremely knowledgeable in his role. He was friendly to my children and I. This was a great time for us. Im not sure who the other user was saying was rude, but I wonder if they have the wrong store.

This is my go to comic shop. Even after moving away from the area I continue to shop here, driving over an hour every other week to pick up my pulls. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and bends over backwards to make sure youre taken care of.

The place has a solid back issue collection... the staff is all good. Ive never been insulted or berated. Jesses son DID once tell me no one likes Hit-Girl. This is patently FALSE. But I really like this place a lot otherwise.

Jesse is the man. I have a vast collection of my own, but recently started a joint collection with my 6-year-old daughter. First time there he directed us to the age-appropriate things that Marvel is publishing, and we left with two Spider-Man books (sold with bags and boards). She literally cant wait to go every week!Its a brick and mortar store (a rarity nowadays) with great personal service-you would be hard pressed to find someone more knowledgeable about comics. He has a ton of great books, and if he doesnt have it, he can find it.Highly recommended.

Im a novice to comics a few months ago, but the staff at Modern Age Comics is making me a well read expert. The staff is very helpful in setting up subscriptions and making suggestions based on your preferences. I definetly prefer Modern Age Comics to other comic book stores in the area.

Fun place to visit, great bargins in 25 cent boxes. Veey easy to spend hours in there. Not as big as the main store located in algonquin.

I love to support small local businesses but this place is over priced. Guy working today said the stuff I was looking for was on clearance a week ago for $1.00 a piece, but now they want cover price for 10-15 year old, USED comics?!?!? I will spend my money elsewhere. I even found a few in the $1 boxes that they also had for cover price, smh

The store isnt always open when their posted hours say they are so it took me a few trying to actually go there. Once I was there the owner was rude and full of himself. His son who works for him is a little better but comes off kinda creepy as he will follow you around trying to force a conversation even if you dont want one. When it was time to check out I stood there for 10 minutes while the owner just chatted with a friend and didnt look in my direction, the friend ended up turning, seeing me and getting the owner to check me out. The only thing keeping this from a 1 star is they have some good back issues but know that they will charge you premium price even if the books dont deserve it.

Both locations are great. If you are looking for something hard to get they will find it. I have followed them from elgin to the algonquin location, and also to the second store in crystal lake. Whether you are dealing with Jesse or John you are in good hands. Comic books, pokemon, magic, hero clix(?), or collectables they have or will work to get what you need. I can not recommend them highly enough.

On a random road trip with the family we stumbled into this place. My wife and our 2 daughters (4 &5) had a fun time walking around the store looking @ all the items that are one display.Plenty of game room for tabletop gamesAmple selection of current and back issuesSubscription service availableIve since then been back twice and plan on making stops out there frequently and its about 40min drive from my home.The owner recognized us on our 2nd trip out there which is really nice. As opposed to the other comic shops ive been to where i get an apprehensive look when it comes to my children.
