Wao! This place is AMAZING! Normally I dont bother to write reviews unless it is a horrible experience, but this little restaurant deserves the highest rating. They just opened not so long ago at the Mosaic District and this was my 7th visit to them. The restaurant itself is not big but it is beautifully decorated so it gives you a feeling that you are indeed in Italy. Their pizza is one of the best in the area but I also enjoyed their pastas and sandwiches plus you can purchase a few authentic Italian wines, pasta, spices etc. to take home and be your own chef. They have a very nice outdoor seating as well where you can enjoy your meal while listening to evergreen Italian songs playing. I highly recommend everyone tries this place but I also have to warn you that once you try it it is addictive!

The reviews made it sound like the subs were awesome. I was disappointed with mine though. It was ok, but the meat to fillers to bun ratios are off. It could have used a few more slices of meat. Pot belly makes a better sub.

Update: The owners immediately responded to my review below and provided a solution to rectify the situation. I appreciate their rapid response. I have changed my rating from 2 to 5 stars to reflect their customer service and much tastier sub. New pics posted!Old review:After coming here for years Im afraid to say wait until the pandemic is over to enjoy a sub here again :-(I ordered my usual Giorgio and was shocked and appalled to taste what seemed to be stale bread or a change in bread manufacturer. The bread was dry, powdery, and lacked the authenticity of loaf bread with a crusty top and a spongy chewy middle. It was nothing like what I usually get.I immediately call the store to find out why this didnt taste like my usual. I asked if the bread manufacturer had been changed and was told since the pandemic they now had two types of bread. When I asked if they had the other type of bread in store so that I could easily just swap out my sandwich I was told that that was not in stock that day either.I waited for a solution either in the form of a refund or via store credit but that never happened either. In a pandemic Im not going to go back and ask for $12 refund as I understand we are all hiring economically, but the customer service seemed to be lacking and Im afraid to say I cant come back here and pay $12 for a sandwich on stale, white, powdery bread that I can get at any local bakery. Its hard to see what Im talking about in photos but for those who frequent this place you know that this is not the usual.

This was my 1st time ordering from The Italian Place through Uber Eats. Sad to say my 1st experience was not a good one.My Meat Lovers Pizza was delivered in a box that came apart and had Black smeared markings on top of the box that the Uber Eats driver handed to me.With all that is going with Covid-19 as well as being safe when handling food. The box should been taped on all sides and placed in a The Italian Place bag to protect my pizza from any elements. In the way my pizza was delivered I didnt feel safe eating. And the Chocolate Chip cookie that is stated on the Italian Place menu as Baked Fresh everyday was not fresh. It was hard and has a stale taste, not worth the money I paid.I truly feel I was ripped off in more was then one, was of money, time and I still havent eaten dinner because I writing this review.I can not recommend this place to anyone. I had high hopes being my 1st time ordering The Italian Place.

Im an Italian from Philly, my hoagie standards are high. I got an Italian hoagie 1) the bread was not soft super thick and did noting for the sandwich 2) not much meat on these things either 3) but the worst was the hot peppers I found 3 stems in the sandwich - which leads me to believe that theres poor attention to detail here. With that said theres room for improvement ...

Went here for lunch one day. What a gem this place is! There are many ways to order food here. You can order ahead online, there is a kiosk outside and of course you can order at the window. There is a few tables and chairs outside so you can enjoy your meal. The staff here is very friendly and the food is delicious and fresh.

We heard this place opened up and had famous subs. Since I’m from New England I know what a good grinder or sub should be like. Very disappointed. They hardly put any roast beef on my sandwich and I feel I got ripped off by them. No way am I going back to spend 15 dollars on Italian bread, chips, soda, lettuce and tomato with one thin piece of beef. They even didn’t put onions peppers or any other ingredients. I asked for every thing.

Its fine overall but I probably wont come back. The food was ok. I got a sandwich and the fillings were great. But the bread was subway quality, and the chips were terrible. I also hate that I have to order on a screen I can barely see, and stand in the sun until I get my order.

This place has THE BEST hoagies outside of a 25-mile circle around Philly! The sandwiches are packed with high-quality meats and cheese and the lettuce and onions are finely sliced to give full flavor. This is a take-out place but they do Uber eats so you can get delivery. Highly recommended.

Updated: The management at The Italian Place responded 5 months later to our review on another site and offered us a voucher for a free pizza. We took them up on it and when we went to pick up two pizzas, they graciously gave us both for free. This time they were both very good....well covered with sauce & cheese and toppings with no giant bubbles. Heres hoping their quality control stays this way so we can support small local businesses.*****Original Review from 6/2020 - Tried it with the Living Social deal and got 2 cheese pizzas. That this would have cost over $30 without it is astounding. Its better than Dominos, so thats why its not 1 star, but one pizza had two HUGE bubbles in the crust that had pushed the sauce and cheese aside and the other had sections with 3 inches of crust (see photo)......VERY poor quality control. I worked at Pizza Hut in college and I wouldnt send a pizza out from that dump with those issues.....I expected quality at least at the Pizza Hut level from this place, but was disappointed. There are better places that are worth a premium for accurate NY/NJ style pizza in Alexandria, but this place is not one of them.

My husband and I get subs/paninis here often and typically would give them 5/5 for their sandwiches/value and 3/5 for their cookies (they could be good if they were softer but they always taste stale and crunchy) But today we were highly disappointed with the quality/value. We both got the turkey subs and each only had 1 piece of turkey and minimal lettuce, etc. on it. Maybe it was an off day for whoever was in the kitchen? Either way - we’ll still give it another try because it’s typically good and we try to support local as much as possible but they should be more aware of quality control on a regular basis because an $8 sandwich is only acceptable if the quality is :)

The theme here is...Dry. I mean, its fine. Decent deli meats and the bread is bread. But both our Italian sub and our eggplant parm sub were both really dry. Overall okay. As a NYC transplant my bar may be set too high, but there are some obvious things lacking. For the price paid the amount of meat on the sandwich is seriously lacking. The bread was smaller than a typical hero and was stale. It was not toasted or warmed as requested. I don’t make this post in hopes of dissuading anyone from giving it a try, but in the hopes management will take my suggestions (and apparently a few others who feel the same) into consideration. I’m only willing to pay a premium price for something above the quality of a sandwich chain. Will visit again to try the mozzarella 🧐.

I entered and was greeted by an associate who didnt pressure us to rush and get our order. We placed our order and it was made quickly. The place is very neat and clean. The staff was very cordial. I took my food home and my family and I were pleased with our choices. My wife had the Alessandra, my daughter the nutella croissant, and i had the Mad Max. We all loves our choices. The bread for the sandwiches was the perfect balance between crispy and soft. It was a little more than costly, but well worth the money. I will be back, and you get what you pay for. I sat a table outside and fed it to the birds. All in all not too bad the red 🍕 sauce was tasty. The person (guy) who assisted me was pleasant and helpful. I wish I could like this place more...my girlfriend and I Both ordered The Nonnies Meatball Sub and came to the same conclusion, which is that: the bread is fine, but the sandwich needs more meat, and it needs more flavor. We couldn’t even tell if the meatballs were fresh, as they were just balls of meat with no pepper or anything mixed in; they were just bland. Overall, the food was okay, but I don’t see myself ordering a meatball sub from here again, or possibly anything.Anyways, i’m writing this because I believe the business can benefit from making these improvements: add more flavor to the meatballs, and add more meat...especially on the grande. These are two things that can be accomplished. If they can acknowledge this, and make an effort to do those things - they’ll have a return customer.

Best sandwiches in town with exceedingly large amounts of meat and veggies - which is how I love it! Its certainly MUCH better than going to Subway or Harris Teeter. Plus, they have them so you can run in, grab, pay, and go, that way you dont have to wait around. The Gio and the Eva are the absolute best ones!I just recently discovered that they do breakfast and even give you a biscotti with your coffee, which was one of the best surprises Ive had in a long time! The coffee is also good and not burnt - Ive had a latte and regular drip coffee from them and both are much better than the competition in the area. I will absolutely be making this my new breakfast and coffee stop! All of this quality is topped off with a quality staff who take their time with each customer and who provide great conversation. The owners are regularly in and always, always working - thats how you can truly gauge a true, high-quality business. This is a MUST VISIT for everyone in Alexandria!

Pre-made sandwiches sitting on the counter should have been flag #1. When I asked if they were fresh, the cashier said they were made this morning. Should have been flag #2 since it was now 1:30 pm. Took it to go anyway. The bread was rock hard stale. Tried eating the meat and cheese alone but since it had been sitting on the counter at room temperature for hours, it was like chewing on raw hide and trying to swallow a heart attack. I have dined at the Italian Place once before and today I decided to enjoy a lasagna past dish. The lasagna was previously prepared and frozen. An automated order terminal is made available to the customer and I requested dining in. This I hoped would result in a warmed up piping hot lasagna portion on perhaps a terra cotta plate. The owner after providing a wonderful lavazza cappuccino hand delivered the lasagna still frozen in a grocery bag. I reminded her that I wanted it to dine in and she graciously offered to heat it up and suggested that it might take 10 minutes. She then delivered the lasagna in its original aluminum storage container, no terra cotta serving dish. The lasagna was still frozen, I hand delivered the under heated portion back for a reheat. She said hopefully it will not be over heated. I retrieved this a second time and sure enough it was defrosted and mildly warm. The exposed lasagna pasta layer was now dry and hard. Freezing is an effective way to preserve food but freezing also results in drying loss of water. There are subtle and effective techniques to gently and effectively defrost and warm up frozen pasta. Unfortunately these were not employed as it would have taken more prep time than was considered appropriate. At this point I didn’t complain directly as this should have been evident to the owner. A couple who sat next to me and ate the eggplant parmesan sandwich also complained of a less than effective reheat from frozen. In the future I would order a cappuccino and other food stuffs like sauces and dried pasta but I would steer away from the reheated pasta dishes until the management elects to improve their food handling quality.

This place gets one star for having somewhat decent subs if they can get your order correct. On a Sunday, dont count on it. Weve given this place 3 tries and each time, weve encountered either a significantly long wait, messing up or forgetting our order (twice), or cold chicken parm. We can understand being busy, but the reason we wont go back again is the lack of apology or concern for the mismanagement. Each time weve gotten a coupon as compensation without a genuine apology. Today we were told by the woman who acted like the owner, they are working hard. She also told us to call in next time if youre in a hurry. Actually we werent in a hurry but after 45 min, its a good thing we inquired because they didnt even have our order written down. They definitely prioritize their catering/to go services. Dont count on this place for an enjoyable dine-in experience.
