Excellent coffee & pastries! Top notch service. Comfortable atmosphere. I ordered a beautiful cake here years ago for my sisters baby shower & was very impressed, though I will say it was a little expensive. Well worth the money. Quality is definitely noticeable & much appreciated. Awesome cheesecake. If you have never been, you must try! Nice selection of goodies & beverages.
I love the Bean Counter! I worked with the owner Alice for cupcakes for my bridal shower and our wedding cake. Alice professional, patient and kind. The cupcakes were stunning and were just as much decor as they were a yummy treat for our bridal shower guests. The wedding cake was beautiful and delicious, we chose the Pumpkin Brown Butter Cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream with caramel drizzle, it was outstanding!
Before the pandemic, I was a frequent visitor to the Bean Counter in Worcester, and its wonderful to be able to get back there. If you like homemade pastries (and who doesnt?), this is the place for you. Fruit tarts, big cookies, muffins, cupcakes, and other delights, plus a variety of coffee drinks and smoothies. Eat in or take out. 2 locations, and definitely worth a visit!
**update August 30, 2021:I went back today (the next day) to get a refund only to see that two of the tiramisu on display had mold. Absolutely unacceptable. If you see this and still decide to go to this bakery be very cautious and observant because clearly these past two days they werent.August 29, 2021I never leave reviews even when I have a negative experience but this was so unexceptable that it deserves a review. Absolutely disappointed and disgusted. I would give zero stars if I could. Ill be going in for a refund. I came into the bakery today around 6pm and got six items. I was absolutely disgusted when I went to go eat my tiramisu and saw that it had quite some mold. This is absolutely unacceptable. I will not be returning to this store again.
Love the atmosphere, awesome music, delicious lattes… remember to tip your baristas when you come here 😊
Bean counter has always been my go to bakery for any birthday occasion. It only made sense for me to go to Bean Counter for my wedding cake. Alice was sweet but always busy and sometimes hard to reach. We had a quote for my wedding cake and made a deposit. Two weeks before my wedding, we had to pay the remaining balance which was increased with no explanation. There was also a mistake made on my wedding cake due to miscommunication between the designer and owner. I wanted a simple wedding cake, literally no design. I specifically asked for no border but my cake had borders on every tier. It might not seem like a big deal and the cake looked beautiful with fresh flowers but I was more upset that it did ruin the clean look I wanted and that something simple like that can go wrong. Alice did apologize and took full responsibility for what happened and asked what she can do to make up for it.
Bean Counter Coffee Bar and Bakery in Worcester is an excellent spot! I walked into this coffee shop and I had some questions about their menu. The person behind the counter looked confused on why I was asking questions about pricing. Every single time I ask for clarification he gave me an odd look and refuse to give me a direct answer. After a while I asked whether I was bothering him because of the way that he was interacting with me. He said that he was confused why I was asking all of these questions. I explained that I just wanted to make sure that I knew what I was paying for. He said he didnt know why I was doing that in a very unprofessional manner. I asked him a price for a specific item and he refused to sell it to me. he seemed motivated to get us out of the store. I happily obliged. This place is very overpriced and was treated with the worst customer service I have in a long time.
Desserts are usually a bit too sweet and a tad expensive, but I love their vibe and they have great coffee! I got an apple dumpling today and it was so delicious. If they’ve got their tiramisu I highly recommend it! I’ve been here several times and service is friendly and comfortable. I love staying to finish a drink and read a book.
I didn’t really like their pastry selection, I initially wanted to buy a birthday cake for my husband but they had only 4 cakes behind the counter & none of them interested me. The person behind the counter didn’t have good customer service, he just wanted to take my order so I could leave & there was no one behind me. It’s also a tiny little place & I felt claustrophobic
Their coffee is good, and so are their breakfast sandwiches. The best thing about this place is definitely the staff and the environment. They also have vegan and gluten free options that I hear are quite good
Great coffee and cute place! My daughter loved her chocolate croissant!
Very interesting mocha flavors the cafe offers. Wide variety of deserts - I really enjoyed their cupcakes. The space has interesting architecture - the cafe is big but feels intimate. Also, I enjoyed this months art display (apparently it changes every month! So fun🌸 )
Great place to grab coffee near WPI. They dont have the best lattes in the world, but what they sell is decent, and you wont find anything better in the area.
Best Mango smoothie Ive had in a long time!
Five stars for quality, one less for the price. The smoothies are really good
Great coffee. I even received some latté art. Theres a crème caramel latté (white chocolate and caramel) which I would love to have again. Good value for money as well, although for the quality Id say you should be willing to pay more than they ask.
Bean counter Bakery specialities go beyond borders. Bean Counter Bakery guarantees satisfaction. Their customized cake to meet the demands of their customers is a plus. Keep it up.
The cake in there is tasty and soft, good service and presentation. Just hope they could use less sweet cream. I will back there again. 😋
A nice place to be, I have ordered some of their cakes before and it was really delicious.
Legit the best latte in Worcestor. Don’t even bother going anywhere else.
Disappointed with customer service on phone. Couldnt work or even find a way to figure out an easy delivery for today and a young girls birthday. Was willing to try out for hotel and upcoming brides and parties, person on the phone was very disrespectful.
Hired them to do cupcakes for our wedding and could not have been happier. The owner was so sweet and so accommodating to all the last minute changes we had to make. Amazing cupcakes and everyone at the wedding was raving about them. Be sure to stop by their new spot and do a taste test.
Iced coffees are good, Mochas are a bit pricey though.
Loved the Vegan option for cake. The Basque Burnt Cheescake was The Best!!!
The coffee is good and reasonably priced, with delicious desserts. Its a great place to hang out and also get work done.
I called to ask about a cake delivery. The worst customer service! Completely didn’t care about my order..these people were definitely the worst! I was so surprised how disrespectful they acted...
Best place to go when you want something light to eat either in or take out
Gave this another try, had two ice Mocha coffees and you couldnt taste the Mocha!
Love the coffee, staff is always very nice! Its a little on the pricier side, but its a small business in a college city serving good coffee, so its understandable and definitely worth it.
My husband and I were very excited when this bakery opened in our general neighborhood as we were lacking a good coffee spot. Weve given them a bunch of business and referrals since they opened. However in the last several weeks weve been given lattes 3 separate times that contained whole milk instead of almond, making my husband very ill. After the third instance I called to complain, and was told they would be more careful. However on our last visit, this week, we were double charged for 2 lattes and cookies, totalling over $30. This incident alone could easily be seen as a mistake but in light of the other issues weve had we will no longer be giving them any business, and hope that anyone with food allergies is aware that they are not careful with orders, and make people sick.
Huge cupcakes in a dozen different flavors! They even have gluten free options that arent dry, you would never guess they are gluten free. They do cakes and desserts, cookies, fruit tarts, and more. Yummy breakfast sandwiches and delicious specialty lattes. My favorite little coffee shop, we even ordered our wedding cake from Alice! And it was perfection ❤ (no, I did not get a discount for posting a review. I just really loved the cake!)
Our holiday cake was as beautiful as it was delicious! They have great vegan options- including this cake- and never disappoint!
I was told by the employee that served me that this cafe does not have any allergy policy. I let her know I had a nut allergy and she said they would not even wash hands or rinse out the blender before making my smoothie. She told me that it was my risk if nuts accidentally were cross contaminated.EDIT: I changed my rating due to management responding. I appreciate that they actually do have an allergy policy, but I am still sad that it wasnt enforced or known to the particular employee that served me. Allergy policies mean nothing if they arent followed by all employees. Since I reviewed this, theyve also put a sign up about allergies which is appreciated.
Nice place great location
Not a bakery. Definitely not a bakery. Do not be mistaken. Two stars. Merely a coffee shop.
Have gone several times to support my local coffee shop. each time I wonder why I even walk threw those doors. coffee is bad but its there joy sucking personalities and rude comments I hear about customers after they leave that did me in. Ill support a different family run coffee shop.
BEST CUPCAKES EVER!!!🤭🤭💯💯
Ive been to this place four times. The first time, my friends coffee didnt taste right. The second and third time, there was this male who was smiling and talking to customers. First time was a group of girls and the second was a couple. I was there to pick up a cakes both times. I was nervous from the previous time but seeing this guy being so friendly and chatting up customers was comforting. But when it was my turn, he stopped the act immediately and acted like he just wanted to serve and get out. It was a complete 180. It didnt make my feel comfortable and I didnt want to spend my money here but he was pushing and I felt pressured. I only went back there second time because my friend ordered a cake for me to pick up and the same thing happened. Not everyone there is rude. The food and drinks can be alright or a miss.
The apple caramel cupcake and pumpkin spice whoopie pie was delicious. The whoopie pie was perfect...the cookie and filling were light, perfectly sweetened where you can taste the layers of cinnamon & spices.
They RUINED my Wedding cake!!! I spoke with the owner, and she said it was Artistic differences! I gave a color swatch to them. We met, planning it out. The cake was almost $900!! I ordered a light, ice blue wedding cake. Imagine my horror when I saw a Bright Tourquoise cake!!! I was only refunded $20 for the coloring...VERY Unprofessional!! I was also charged almost $80 for a Hydrangea flower on top of the cake made out of icing....The Hydrangea they made was three tiny flowers...HUGE Disappointment! My cake was supposed to show the style, mood, and personality of us, and our wedding! Very upset that I was not refunded the entire amount. Of course I had to serve it, what else did I have? I was stuck!
Pastries are unbelievable
Let me just say HATS OFF TO THE CHEF..........or in this case The Baker. i am beyond impressed with this establishment. I had always heard of this place but had never been there. One day my daughter asks me to get her some macaroons and i roamed the whole of Worcester searching for macaroons. Long story short i ended up at the Bean counter to get her the macaroons. Recently i wanted to satisfy my cake cravings i was having and went to one of their branches to get some. It was mostly gone by the time i got there so they told me about the new branch which had more selections. I ended up online trying to find a good looking birthday cake and i came across my dream cake. So i go over after work to put in a custom order for my cake. While i was there i met the owner (Alice) and she had me sample some of what i was looking for my custom made cake, and boy did i fall in love with it immediately. So after putting in my order and before leaving i told her i was craving for cake and asked her which one she would recommend. She pointed out exactly what i was eyeing from the minute i walked in, so i bought it, had it packaged and there i was in my car about to satisfy my cravings that i had been having for so long. After dinner, of course, with the entire family on edge waiting to have this cake, even my 1 year old, we dive into the cake and OOOOOOOMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGG..........Lets just say the moment i got to work at 8:30 the next day, i was on the phone, instead of working, calling The Bean Counter and putting in an order for a bigger size of the same Strawberry Cake from the night before. I was in 7th Heaven, even one family member who does not like to eat sweet things, wiped her plate clean. Aside God and my kids, if anything was perfect, it was that Cake i bought from the Bean Counter. I just cannot wait to pick up my birthday cake in a few days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not impressed nor will I be back. Sales clerk was having a bad day
Your baked goods are always delicious but your new location the staff did not seem.to reflect your high standards they had flour etc on their shirts and the cupcakes I purchased in a box had frosting on them.
Very good. Very sweet. We are running out of good desert places. Bean Counter is here for that need! Great selection if sweets and hot drinks for everyone. GF and vegan too!
Cupcakes tasted great but were almost wet, we didnt like the frosting. The cookies were good.
A Cozy coffee shop with nice cakes. It is difficult to find a seating if you are with 3 or more people. Almond cookie was rock-hard but, the coffee is fine.
This is my favorite Worcester bakery. I have purchased many custom-made cakes that have exceeded my expectations in taste and appearance every time. The cakes are perfectly moist, always fresh and flavorful from the first bite. My son loves to come with me to get a cup of tea and a brownie. We love to treat ourselves to the Bean Counters decandent (!) rocky road brownies now and again.
Always go here and buy my coffee when I run out of lavazzas at home and they never told me there is a 5$ minimum payment on cards, but today. How is it even possible to have a minimum payment in a coffee shop? Are single coffees supposed to cost more than 5$? Its not a gas station! The coffee is good, havent tried the sweets.
Great little spot in Worcester! The coffee options are plentiful, I have never had a drink I dont like. I really enjoy their monthly specials. This bakery also has great desserts. The cloudless chocolate cake and the molten lava cake are some of my favorites. But they also have good cupcakes. There is only street/meter parking in the area. And there are usually people in there. I have never been in and seen it empty.
A wonderful local coffee shop serving coffee and teas. Gluten free and vegan baked treats as well. Always busy with college students.
Excellent coffee
Once the manager guy decides he doesnt like you, hes a petty jerk to try to drive you away. Coffee wasnt bad. Managers self-esteem is a bit weak though.
Having a daughter with a severe dairy allergy, its difficult to find a good birthday cake for her. The vegan selection here is top quality! Thank you for putting the same love and effort into your vegan options as you do with the regular desserts. Ive been to bakeries who have all these beautiful desserts, but the vegan options are bland and boring. Definitely not the case at the Bean Counter! My little girl is always happy with her beautiful and delicious cakes! P.S. My husband always loves his chocolate cakes too!
Totally made my daughters 16th bday amazing.. she wanted a really good cheese cake and I am not a cheese cake eater but I tried and it was pretty amazing. She said its better than the cheese cake factory 😘
Food and coffee is great. The sweets are very rich. The prices are definitely a little high, especially for Worcester. The main reason this is 3 stars is the service. The people who work there seem like they dont want to be there and act as if you taking your order is bothering them. It is consistent enough across the various employees that I have seen for it to be significantly concerning.
Friendly intimate coffee and bakery place to sit down and unwind. The cupcakes are to die for not to mention their assortment of pies. Their wide assortment of coffee, teas, and smoothies are amazingly fresh and well made! Its very small but so worth going!!
Phenomenal from-scratch bakery with the finest ingredients on earth. And the prices reflect this world-class experience. Great location with limited seating
Nice environment for hanging out with a friend or studying/working productively. They make a mean latte and if you dont feel like indulging they have cake shots which is a nice little portion.
This is the place to go when you want to hunker down and study or grab a coffee with a friend/a group of friends. The service is always great and friendly.Coffee is amazing with lots of flavor options, other drink options as well, different teas and smoothies. They also have desserts which Ive never been disappointed by.
We love their cakes (vegan ones too!) and the lattes are incredible. Try the hazel swirl latte (iced!)The wedding cakes are unique and so beautiful! I know this because I am in the wedding industry and see so many of The Bean Counter cakes at weddings all over Massachusetts and am always impressed!!
Love this cozy spot - I bring my YETI for a cold brew and they have a nice selection of breakfast items!
Excellent coffee, I love the Java Nut latte. The croissants are also delicious. My husband and I had our first date here, so I have nothing but fond memories and experiences over the past 7 years!
Great place to grab a coffee and a really good pastry and do some work or read a book or do whatever people do while drinking coffee.
Great pastries & baked goods, good coffee with a nice setting. Good for work and studying. A few employees with an attitude, but food makes it worth it. Great breakfast sandwiches
Wow and Yum!Our wedding cake was absolutely incredible; delicious and beautiful. We met with the baker at our tasting and were given ample time to look through their photo book of cakes to firm our decision on design. After tasting several different varieties, it was only hard to decide which to choose because they were all so good. The baker answered all our questions, took excellent notes on our instructions, and delivered exactly the product we asked for. All three layers were moist and baked to perfection. Even the leftovers were excellent a few days after and also out of the freezer a week later.
Coffee is good! Keep in mind, however, their sweet drinks can be a bit too sweet. In terms of food, they have the best egg sandwich in town.
Great coffee and baked goods. Love the proximity to WPI.
This place has the most WONDERFUL gluten free bakery for those of us unable to process gluten or wheat. My daughter and I both come here, she has come here for the past three years, shes in college, she gets the same BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS called and desserts as her non-gf friends. Ive even ordered her cake for her birthday so that her friends can help her celebrate with cake and candles!!!The staff are so accommodating, happy, awesome ... This is a WONDERFUL place to be!!!
Just came from the new bakery on North Street in Worcester you guys just opened recently and I got to say that was the worst, I ask for my bacon to be well done and no of course not if you cant cook something than you should not advertise it, tasted like everything was microwaved.
This is a great little place for coffee and great bakery items! Raspberry Twists, Chocolate Stick, Chocolate Biscotti, Carrot Cake Cupcakes, and fantastic service. Seating is a challenge. They could use a few more tables and chairs.
Amazing cakes and bakery products, and the dark roast coffee is the best in the area .
Im a little obsessed with the french macarons.
Good dark roast coffee. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich which was delicious.
The purple cow and white lightning coffee drinks are fantastic! Had the cinnamon twist pastry and it was also great. Finally, got the egg and cheese sandwich. I enjoyed it all. Ive only been here a few times so far. But I have found the staff to be very friendly, the room at the perfect temperature, the atmosphere quiet and clean, and the prices no different from a Starbucks. Try it out for yourself before listening to a few bad reviews.
One of my favorite coffee spots in Worcester! Whether you want a black coffee or a flavored latte, a slice of cake to a vegan cookie, Bean Counter has you covered. Plus, their staff and atmosphere are great, and for college kids or locals, theyve got free WiFi and easy access to 2 local colleges!
This is one of Worcesters longest-standing bakeries and for good reason! The desserts here are amazing- high quality ingredients and amazing presentation. Plenty of gluten free options too!
Fabulous bakery that has a good variety of gluten free desserts
A nice variety of fine looking though highly priced baked goods. The espresso is vastly improved from a few years ago. Solid acidity and citrus, slightly over sour and maybe over extracted, no spicy or nutty notes. All in all a fine drink and one of the better but not best espressos in town.
Tasty coffee and mellow electronic tunes perfect for working or studying during the morning and early afternoon. Overall a great place to work if youre by yourself and dont need seating for a group.
I love the mochas and desserts here, I go every other week or so. Their bagels and breakfast pastries are also fabulous. However, their morning staff is especially unfriendly. They are quiet and rude if you ask questions. Although some employees are great! Overall I do enjoy it and continue to go back
Over priced, burnt coffee. Their selection is not good and their service isnt far behind
The coffee and pastries here are excellent. The quality of cappuccino here is mostly excellent, good foam consistency and the milk is actually brought to the proper temperature.
Helpful staff great desserts to choose from.
Nice place to drink coffee. Best for 2-3 people groups.
Visited for the first time today for my birthday and got a cupcake. It’s was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing.
Cute little coffee shop with great pastries and well made espresso drinks.
To die for cakes and lattes. Its pricey but its worth it. Staff are always super friendly. The mocha cake is my favorite. Always pick one up while Im in town!
Amazing coffee, amazing pastries, and a nice atmosphere to enjoy your order and study. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes coffee or pastries!
Amazing place with great coffee and off the chart baked goods full of extremely friendly hard-working and studious students of WPI.
Second time here was as good as the first. Great people, great pastries and drinks. Fun to grab coffee and treat after a dinner out with friends.
Recently moved to Worcester. I am searching for the best coffee place in town. Coffee is good 7/10, probably one of the better ones (I have been to the Nu cafe and Birch tree). The bakery goods here arent up to par compared to Birch Tree. I come here mostly to study and the atmosphere is ok. Staffs are not very friendly .
