Theres an amazing selection of Posh Peanut momma robes and baby outfits, and I love all the Copper Pearl swaddles and bibs.The offerings have been different each time Ive gone in! After finding out we were expecting, my husband and I didn’t think that having a doula was necessary for us. We knew we wanted a hospital birth and we both fully trusted our OB, so we didn’t want to bring in someone who may challenge both of those decisions. I had also decided that I wanted to try to have an unmedicated birth, but I didn’t want someone forcing that on me if I changed my mind during labor. These assumptions that we made about what to expect from a doula could not have been more wrong.As we started talking with our close friends about their birth experiences, one thing stuck out to us. Most partners commented on how they didn’t know what to do or what their role was, that they felt they were in the way, and often were overwhelmed by their feelings of helplessness. I knew I wanted to have a birth experience that included my husband and he wanted to make sure that he could be there to support me during labor. This opened us up to the idea of a doula. We researched, attended info sessions, and met with several doulas. We quickly realized that a doula would not get in the way of our vision for my labor and delivery, but rather help that vision become a reality.After meeting with Janet, we immediately clicked and knew she was a good fit. She walked through some late pregnancy developments with us and was there with answers to our questions and concerns about what to expect. As soon labor set in, Janet was by our side the entire time. We had taken birth classes and prepared ourselves as much as possible, but having her present added so much more than we could have expected. She was calming, reassuring, and constantly at work to make sure that I understood what was going on and that I was as comfortable as possible. Janet brought her expert knowledge of labor and combined that with my husband’s knowledge of me. For those that think a doula will take over and replace the partner, I would reassure you that is not the case with Janet. My husband took a lead role alongside Janet and having her there made him feel more empowered in how he helped and supported me throughout my labor. The two of them worked together to provide me with comfort, pain management, and motivation. They were encouraging the entire time and were the best support I could have imagined.I highly encourage anyone thinking about hiring a doula to look into the services that Janet and Bellies-2-Babies provide. Having Janet alongside us for the birth of our son was one of the best decisions we made in preparation for his arrival. We would not have had the experience we did without her.
